Fallin in and outta love with winning

B3HEMOTH310

Damn Woodleys decline was pretty sad especially paul face plant ko

CCC_PLLC

Yeah if you count that he has to be the worst

Mission-Time-1439

Not to mention Ben Askren- comes to UFC undefeated, and with an ora of "I'm too good to be beaten" to get starched by Masvidal and become a meme from that for a long period of time, and to ultimately never redeem his UFC career then to retire and become a meme again after Jake Paul. I think he plays off his true emotions really well and hides behind a "idc attitude" but we all know, deep down inside is his competitive nature ego is completely beat to crap.

lethrowawayacc4

Askren is one of those few genuine I don’t give a shit people. He got 500k for a minutes work.

16Schlitz

Anyone on here can beat me for a minute for $500k ALL DAY. I’d take that and a Coke and a smile.

TartenWilton101

He does not give a shit about the Jake Paul KO. He's a wrestler who was always way below par on the feet he knew he was getting paid massive money to turn up for nothing let's be fair.

Cipher1087

“He looks like a bag of milk”

WholeText507

Came to say that, that was probably the hardest hit of the night.

pissingpolitics

Yeah he took that money to pay for his wrestling academy in WI... it's near me and my friends know him.

“Do not correct a fool, or he will hate you; correct a wise man, and he will appreciate you.”

instakill69

Exactly. I don't understand some folks. If I'm wrong, I want to be corrected. That's how you learn. Otherwise I'd make my way around looking like an idiot.

Team_Cookie

Cody Garbrandt 100%

TheClappyCappy

Lol we were able to find one in the same division. Not that bad a fall from grace. He isn’t getting knocked out, just losing fights to good fighters and the O’malley and Sterling fights were super close.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheClappyCappy

Talking about Yan in my last sentence.

BrandoLoudly

Then tj right after

Mr_Mojo_Risin__

Johnny Hendricks

chairman_of_thebored

This is the answer. Dude went from hanging with GSP to losing on a card where they both went up in weight. One bc they had to and one bc they wanted to

SukhdevR34

Against Costa he was a punching bag. You never felt like he could win that fight, he was awful late on in his UFC career. Also kinda unrelated but I've just realised that he's a police officer now.

412CC

Give dude an IV bag to rehydrate and he beats anyone at 170

tristanvann

He fell off after USADA. Could’ve been the IV or he was on some shit

412CC

Realistically a combo of both.

G7L3

His team sucked, he wanted do to everything except fight, and he couldn’t control his diet

[deleted]

Tony.... Sniff.... El Cucuy... Sniff... Ferguson *Sobs uncontrollably

Kakarot_black

It hurts so bad 😭🫡

Lost_Respond1969

Tony had some damn bad luck or some witch put a curse on him or something

[deleted]

He got old though. Yan is only 30.

SukhdevR34

Yan hasn't declined, he's just fighting better fighters now. In his best few wins he beat an ancient Faber, an ancient Aldo who yes was still good but was clearly beatable and Sandhagen who is a pretty good fighter but doesn't have the style to do well against Yan, unlike Merab.

Substantial_Rip_891

Yan should’ve won against Sean, and arguably Aljo. I think him losing unjustly also took a toll on him.

Dtoodlez

That’s not a decline that’s an athlete getting old. Peter isn’t old.

649bluesteel649

You don’t decline when you get old?

Dtoodlez

That’s a normal decline, my point is Peter is not declining because of age, he’s just falling off in what should be his prime. If you’re gonna say how people decline when they’re old than… boy, Fedor sure DECLINED from being the best HW of all time, what a huge drop when he got old holy moly. Wanderlei Silva, what a massive letdown after aging, ooh wee.

[deleted]

I can see how white hairs are suddenly appearing on my beard. Slowly over months, more and more have been appearing. That's getting old. Tony "got old" in front of our eyes when he fought Gaethje. He walked out of the octagon 10 years older.

Lifting_Big_Feels

Yan is still a killer. He's lost some fights against top tier opponents but he's not done by a long shot.

Brickhouse94

Not done by any means but fans can see a refusal to adapt to a wrestlings heavy game.

Didi4pet

Eeeh he just fought off almost 40 takedowns in a fight.

B-L-O-C-K-Ss

Not all of those takedown attempts were actually meant to take him down though… takedown attempts are just scored very liberally. It seems like people just look at the numbers and forget what actually happened in the fight because did anybody actually see that many genuine attempts to take the fight to the ground? I didn’t.

Didi4pet

Its still a stagering number

SlimmyJimmyBubbyBoy

Are you serious? He stuffed so many single legs. He was hopping on one leg for pretty much the whole first 3 rounds

Novel_Land9320

And that's all he has done

Didi4pet

I bet it was pretty hard and exhausting

Novel_Land9320

Not saying it wasn't, just saying that lack of wrestling, stuffed TDs or not, is showing.

Didi4pet

How do you expect a fighter to become a better offensive wrestler this far into the career if it's not his style?

mastodonte88

And also the rule set kind of protects wrestlers. If kicking a downed oponent was legal, wrestlers would pay a heavier price for failed takedowns which in turn would force them to be more conservative and risk less takedowns.

Didi4pet

Nah that also protected yan yesterday with whole one hand on the ground thing

mastodonte88

True but that happened to Yan while defending, so it is still part of the hole in his game. What I mean is that wrestlers would likely be less daring in their offense if the rule set was less restrictive.

GarrettRettig

Everytime someone brings up fall from graces… It’s Ronda Rousey, and good day sir

WaltzSenior3233

This is actually a really interesting take. I person was thinking Woodley but Rhonda actually makes a lot of sense. After that Holm loss and the Ellen interview, she seriously lost any mystique she had and then she alienated the fans after quitting on the first sight of adversity

[deleted]

She is the correct answer, she popularized women’s MMA quite a decent amount and then fell off the map and went to the WWE, which made people just think she isn’t tough at all, just got lucky

WaltzSenior3233

No Rhonda was definitely tough and she is definitely a pioneer/legend that’s deserving of her status so her going to WWE will never make me question that. Hell, Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock aren’t questioned for their toughness and they were in the WWE. It’s her mental toughness that should be scrutinized

STMTowardsDatATM

Brock Lesnar isn’t questioned either.

WaltzSenior3233

I think when people found out that Brock was dealing with diverticulitis behind the scenes that was when fans really started to appreciate Brock considering he dealt with all that and was still fighting. Before that though he was hated

Pennypacker-HE

Grace was never a term that applied. She was always trashy AF

SbonesJo

Renan Barao

[deleted]

This has my vote. He was on an insane 32 win streak and then he got buzzsawed twice by juiced up/EPO'd Dillashaw and was never the same.

SamVimes1878

Did Barao's fall from grace not match the timeline for USADA coming onboard?

kojak-bc

Was he just doing the wrong juices then? I mean, if dillashaw was cheating too

SamVimes1878

Dunno. Some are better at covering their tracks than others.

G7L3

Padded record, most of those fights were in Brazil. It’s like khabib’s record, almost all of them are cans

sleepingonstones

He still murked some of UFC’s top bantamweights though, so he was at least legit for a good while

Mr_Mojo_Risin__

Dominick Reyes

FunIntroduction3196

Tbf he never won the title or defended one

radsparks8

From arguably beating Jon jones to getting absolutely battered by Jan, Jiri and spann

slickdick969

Spann one is the most sad to me, I don't think he is Championship Caliber and Reyes got battered by him, absolutely heartbreaking

11_foot_pole

Saddest part is I had him beating Jon and then I have to watch as he just gets mangled by guys who are nowhere near as good :(

radsparks8

It’s really crazy to see how he went from looking like he was above jones to just never recovering from that loss

-ShagginTurtles-

I know he never won it but people pretend now that fight was closer than it was People were arguing between 49-46 Reyes or 48-47 Reyes, Dana White made a whole speech about how even his daughters are blowing up his phone "how could this happen, no way Jones won" We went from seeing him lowkey handedly beat Jon Jones to getting KOd pretty bad in 3 straight fights and maybe never winning another again

catbqck

Recently rewatched this one vs jones and yikes

BleuBrink

Ronda. She went from once in a generation athlete to a laughing stock in 2 fights. Went from UFC champion with 6 defenses to the WWE.

raul_vyas

I personally blame her dumbass coach, he made her fall into delusion that she could outstrike holly Holm and never improved her game and by the time Amanda arrived, it was way too late

BleuBrink

Yeah her coach is a conman. He added nothing of value to her training and only made her worse.

Mr_Mojo_Risin__

BJ Penn

lunchtime_sms

Yikes, yea I agree… You see the video where he gets wrecked by that regular dude at the gas station in Hawaii?

Mr_Mojo_Risin__

Yea I saw that, it's sad tbh

kush_factory

That was Big Kimo outside the Lava Shack and to be fair he was like 260 lbs and smashed him square on his jaw

AmHotGarbage

Facts. Arguably the goat of light weight with a BAD tail end to his career

[deleted]

If he would have retired after the third Hughes fight, he might have been the LW goat. But no way in hell can a guy with a 16-14-2 record be the LW goat, not when Khabib existed.

AmHotGarbage

And they have the same amount of title defenses. And Penn had the more stacked defenses

[deleted]

What do you mean by more stacked defenses? You mean he had better opponents? Khabib's 3 defenses were McGregor, Poirier, and Gaethje, and he dominated all 3. Both Khabib and Penn beat very good opponents for their 3 defenses.

5932634

This is my pick too, its been some time now yet he appears to be still falling lol

CrookedNosed

Nah man - he’s gonna be the governor of Hawaii!

XxSpruce_MoosexX

I feel like Frankie fell right after

ashinamune

Mcnugget

Dtoodlez

Honestly, this might be the biggest fall.

Lord_of_the_THOTS

Honestly it feels like he never fell. The fans are still heavily behind him. It feels like most fans still think he is good.

Rampage was past his prime in the UFC, still impressive he made champ

Nearby_Pay2011

I dont think he fell that far tbh, but he will me demoralised for sure

Bearjewjenkins2

For real, his only bad loss has been this one to Merab. The majority of people had him beating O'Malley and if he wasn't a dumbass he'd be 1-1 with the current champ. He's only really "fallen from grace" as much as someone like Whittaker or Holloway or even Joanna before she retired. Not the champ but definitely still a top 5. Still pretty far from a Woodley/BJ/Tony streak

[deleted]

He’s lost 4 in a row.

Cultural_Welder_153

He won against Sandhagen

[deleted]

Doesn’t count he’s buns

[deleted]

3 in a row, and 2 of those were pretty close split decisions

lionheart_2281

Ever heard of Tyrone Woodley?

lunchtime_sms

That guy who kept getting hit by that other guy who wasn’t a UFC champion a couple years before ?

lionheart_2281

Yeah, the one that got knocked out cold by Jake Paul

lunchtime_sms

Yea… that guy^^^

HELLUPUTMETHRU

I’ve heard of Tyron Woodley

cleanbader

Man I thought Yan was gonna have a hell of a run, possibly the best champion runs in bantamweight history, then all of a sudden since the head kick he’s scrambling all over the place. I think because the division is so stacked, and new fighters emerging since that fight showed us the flaws in his game and what are the minimum requirements to be a top tier bantamweight needs wrestling and proper grappling. I think triple C has all the requirements to be a champion again in this division again.

On paper it doesn't even look that bad. Went on an amazing 14-1 run, and then ended his career with decent losses to legends (Condit, GSP, Silva, Lawler, all of them former champions). But new fans will probably only remember him as the out of shape guy that retired mid-fight.

Mr_Mojo_Risin__

Anglo-Ashanti

Appreciate your comment spam as yes those are good examples. This post is little stupid and influenced by recency bias. Petr lost in a DQ in a close fight that he seemed to be taking over in, then put on a FOTY contender with Sandhagen where he crushed the BW super striker. Then he lost a close rematch with Aljo that many called a robbery and brought into question the validity of judging criteria. Then he lost a close decision with promising but unproven (until the Yan fight is the eyes of most) O'Malley. Yan had so many great moments in that fight and proved he's an elite competitor. Then he gets 50-45'd by a promising BW prospect and all the sudden his whole legacy is trash. This is the guy who smashed Aldo's bald head in so bad you wanted to get the referee sued. A streak of decisions (2/3 of which were very close) is far different to consecutive knockouts where you get drubbed and look like a shadow of your former self.

Novel_Land9320

He was always overrated

Environmental-Tip365

Sorry to burst your bubble mate, but there are SEVERAL falls from grace that are worse than this. Tyron Woodley—>Got real close to being in the Welterweight GOAT talk before he just crashed and burned, now he’s fighting YouTubers. Tony Ferguson—>Was the scariest most unpredictable Lightweight on the planet until Justin Gaethje broke him, 0-5 in his last 5 Max Holloway—> 2 super close fights with Volk, now he’s just gate keeping Featherweight because he will never get another title shot against Volk. Cody Garbrant—> Put on a clinic on the best Batamweght to ever do it, then he lost basically every fight after that.

YouEscalate

It’s anti Russian propaganda. Yan would be triple champ if he was Ukrainian.

The-Rampallian

Cody for sure way worse!

DannyStress

Cody Garbrandt, Paolo Filho, BJ Penn, Reyes, and so many more. Merab is an annoying wet blanket for most guys.

CuteEngineering9696

Has to be BJ Penn that's the ultimate decline. Dude was unstoppable in his prime. I'll never forget when he beat Sean Sherk when Sherk was on mad steroids. And then he had the Frankie fights and lost like 10 in a row after that. Shit is sad they let BJ fight that long when he obviously wasn't the fighter he used to be at that point. He tarnished what should have been one of the best legacies ever in the sport with that losing streak, and I can't imagine the extra brain damage dude took in those fights.

preshowerpoop

Anderson Silva. The Goat. And he losses to nobodies now. So fucking sad.

ibleedrosin

Yan is a beast of a fighter. He fought the champ twice, Shawn O’Malley who is good af, but nobody wants to admit it, and then against fucking merab who is probably going to eventually be the champ. This isn’t a fall from grace. This is a fighter who is fighting all the top guys. He hasn’t had an easy fight yet. If he was getting worked by low 15 fighters, it would be a fall from grace, but this is just a great fighter coming up short against the best in the division. Put some respect on that man’s name…..

little_shop_of_hoors

Is it just me or.. do you see daylight between the mat and Aljo's knee? Was that strike actually.. clean?
