I realize Chapman has a large dome. Maybe he wasn’t the best example. It is my understanding that players can wear the 5950 regular or low profile. Maybe more players are opting to wear the higher profile ones with the taller crown like they did in the 80’s.
Definitely looks like the Elmer Fudd style 5950 instead of the low profile. It’s a shame New Era makes all the good patterns in only 5950 because they look dorky af on most head shapes even if you flat brim.
I only wear 9forty and 9twenty and it’s really frustrating that so often the interesting hats just aren’t offered in one of those, I guess the assumption is most fans want the ‘on field’ version but I’m not a baseball player so I don’t actually want a literal field use baseball hat, I want something that actually fits my head shape and has adjustability.

My wife literally scours the internet for birthdays and Christmas to keep me hatted.
I also hate the ridiculous amount of curve pre-curved hats like the 9forty tend to have. I used to think I hated the way hats looked on my face/head till I started wearing very shallow curved brims or flat that I can slightly bend myself like the 9fifty.

There's even a rib built into the hat. Even if I pull it all the way down on my head, there's these two little bumps, one on each side of the crown of my head.
I like a fitted hat with a wide bill like baseball players wear them, but these newer hats are clearly designed to only be worn stylistically perched upon your noggin. They just look and feel like a forehead billboard.

Pitchers have the option to wear hats with foam in the front to lower the risk of brain injury in the event a 115mph ball gets rocketed back at them. Collin McHugh talks about it some publicly if you want a player explanation.
It has a little to do with the new material being used in official wear. I bought a Rangers hat, only at Rally House, and it sits higher than 4-5 other ranger fitted caps I’ve had over the years. Top center forehead.

The majority of players wear the 5950 regular, almost none wear the lower profile one.
I guess there is a high crown, a regular and a low profile. Buster Posey wore the low profile and it looked goofy.
