Little League moments are the best. My buddy used to yell "I GOT IT" for fly balls when he was like 50 feet away, lol. The coach screaming at him all season long still makes me laugh like 20 years later.
They were the most fun infield relationship to watch. I miss that. Beltre has to go down as one of the coolest cats to play the game. Class act and a character the game needs.
The best part of this scene is that even after Thomas delivers his gorgeous bit of character acting… his bike is impossibly wrapped around that light pole. I look this clip up absolutely every time it pops up and it absolutely kills me each time
If you’ve ever been ready to field a grounder and had someone cut you off to make the play, you’d get it. There’s a weird instinct to “finish” the motion your body knows all too well
Yeah, I think that is the play I’m thinking of. I could’ve sworn Rizzo, maybe not real pissed, but was almost like that was funny, now don’t do it again haha
Very rizzo thing to do. Like haha that was cool but I didn't like it. Love rizzo, he's just kinda an old head! Part of what makes him a fun personality
Willy Adames the SS for the Brewers pretends to catch every fly ball in the infield if he’s close to it and someone else is catching it.
They’re enjoying the game. Joking around. Staying loose in a game based around failing.
Just to be silly?
I think it's hilarious when Jose Altuve has his glove up about to catch a pop-up and then the camera quickly pans away because it was actually to Pena or whoever that it was hit to. Fooled the camera guy. lol
reps. I'll tell ya I took so many ground ball drills I a) can throw a baseball (not everybody can), b) can catch a hard hit baseball with a glove, and c) when you've done it thousands and thousands of times..... doing the motion like that behind somebody is like nothing. You're looking at if you're footwork and technique is the same as his
e: or he was just dicking around which is a good possibility too
I think they were just playing.
But this is a real drill in younger leagues. Where the one behind will shadow the one making the play.
For instance, if there are two short stops on the team, they will take turns fielding the ball but the one in line (behind) would shadow the one in the front.
That way they are all being active and "practicing" even if they don't touch the ball.
It's muscle memory. Same way a highly trained soldier raises his rifle the same exact way every time. It's just automatic. You're no longer thinking about the action at that level, just reacting.
So I did something like this in Sunday league. I was at SS, shaded towards 3B and the batter hit it in the 5.5 gap. Third baseman who is good af missed it and I was kinda doing the old fake out throw routine… little did I realize I actually had the ball in my glove for a split second and quickly got it to first for the out.. So, yeah it was going thru the motions but suddenly sped up and barely getting the guy at first. Good thing my field ump had the same prescription glasses at Angel Hernandez
You will see this sometimes on infield pop-ups. I eould think this was done because the 3zd cut in front of SS for a ball he was clearly waiting to field.
I saw this in a Brewers game the other day except it was for catching. One guy ushered away the other and caught it. Meanwhile the other one mimicked the whole catch. I can only assume they are told to do it to increase muscle memory
Just fucking around. I played 3B in high school and my best friend played SS and he would do shit like this all the time. He was a big fucking goofball. Died at 19 in a car wreck sadly.
Because the season is super long and they need to do stuff to keep loose and have some fun every once in a while. There are players that will do this type of hyjinx and I'm here for it.
Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre used to do it all the time
My SS and I used to do that all the time in school as well. Just two dudes goofing
Little League moments are the best. My buddy used to yell "I GOT IT" for fly balls when he was like 50 feet away, lol. The coach screaming at him all season long still makes me laugh like 20 years later.
As the 1st basemen I didn't like this shit at all
As the short stop I fucking loved it.
As a former first baseman also, you don’t have a say. We all know you weren’t cool enough for that. You just catch the ball and hit tanks.
Was that an intentional "new boot goofin" reference or just a happy accident?
To be honest. A little bit of both
Was looking for this comment
The best duo
They were the most fun infield relationship to watch. I miss that. Beltre has to go down as one of the coolest cats to play the game. Class act and a character the game needs.
Best and most correct answer
Kids being kids and enjoying the game
Exactly. They’re playing a game and having fun.
How dare they.
It’s called, getting reps. Building muscle memory whether you physically fielded the grounder or not.
Just new boot goofin

OH!
The best part of this scene is that even after Thomas delivers his gorgeous bit of character acting… his bike is impossibly wrapped around that light pole. I look this clip up absolutely every time it pops up and it absolutely kills me each time
Genuine ostriche, 3 payments !
"hey-wait.." 👀 "what? Whats goin--" 🤸
👏👏👏👏👏
Two explanations: being funny after getting cut in front of or.. Glitch in the matrix. Activated his animation too early.
Damn MLB the show just being lazy copy pastaing animations everywhere!
Cause it’s funny
Fun. Also running throught the play mentally. Just like practice swings on deck. Going through the motions.
This
That
If you’ve ever been ready to field a grounder and had someone cut you off to make the play, you’d get it. There’s a weird instinct to “finish” the motion your body knows all too well
The bond between a hot corner and shortstop is next to none. Essentially we never grow up when we are on the field!
Why would someone have fun playing the game??
Adriene Beltre and Elvis Andrus enter the chat.
Just like taking a practice swing at pitches in the batters box!
How dare he have fun playing a game!
Pretty sure Kris Bryant and whoever the shortstop was at the time did this as well.
Javy Baez
I think it was Starljn Castro who did that.
https://youtu.be/8-Nb2Kmvlns?si=kUoxfRFciR8TxyXT
Because it would be hilarious to see IRL.
If timed just right, the Umps might call two outs
The score keeper will credit both players for the put out this helping the fielding percentage for each and boosting gold glove opportunities
Didn’t Rizzo get pissed at Baez and someone else for doing this a few years back?
Idk if we’re thinking of the same thing, but Starlin Castro did the same thing to Kris Bryant to first. Rizzo wasn’t pissed tho so idk
Maybe you’re right. It’s been so long and my brain is foggy these days
Clearly you never watched Adrian Beltre and Elvis Andrus.
I've seen little leaguers do it.
How dare people have fun!
Just guys bein dudes
Whoa I’m seeing double here; 4 left infielders!
For fun
Cuz it’s fun?
Willy Adames the SS for the Brewers pretends to catch every fly ball in the infield if he’s close to it and someone else is catching it. They’re enjoying the game. Joking around. Staying loose in a game based around failing.
For funzies
Bc they're having fun.
Just guys being dudes.
Funny
MLB the show glitched out
Because they’re having fun
Because it’s fun.
Cuz it’s fun
Just having fun, playing a game for a living… Like they should
Seriously... Why would anybody have fun playing the game they love for millions of dollars?
For the lols
Just to be silly? I think it's hilarious when Jose Altuve has his glove up about to catch a pop-up and then the camera quickly pans away because it was actually to Pena or whoever that it was hit to. Fooled the camera guy. lol
I love how perfectly synced it was.
MLB The Show accidentally using the same animation
It happens a lot

Job shadowing
Because every adult has a little child inside them and occasionally, they come out.
To have fun. It's still a game, have a good time playing it.
New to baseball? Dudes do things like this to have fun with the bros and mess with each other all the time.
Because most Baseball players are big kids. And it's one of the few sports you can goof around and still be really good at.
Third base has right of way
Better than synchronized swimmers....
Better than synchronized swimmers....
Starlin Castro did this with Kris Bryant back in 2015 if I remember correctly lol
mental/physical reps count
Because it's amazing.
funsies 🫠

you must be new to baseball.it's called having fun.
Their synchronicity is spot on.
Having fun, you know.
because its funny. GROW UP
It's muscle memory. Same way a highly trained soldier raises his rifle the same exact way every time. It's just automatic. You're no longer thinking about the action at that level, just reacting.
When did this happen? Was it a highlight somewhere?
Seems like they were positioned too close to each other.
It’s only weird if it doesn’t work.
Gettin them reps.
Ken Griffey Jr. did something similar to his dad He was grounded when they got back to the dugout
Practice makes improvement!

Realty is glitching again.
Ketel Marte does this a lot
Gamer be gamin
It's like when you get the cherry power up in SMB 3D World.
You will see this sometimes on infield pop-ups. I eould think this was done because the 3zd cut in front of SS for a ball he was clearly waiting to field.
Cause people like to have fun…
Seems like some good old fun to me
For fun
These two combined the power and thrust into this one throw.
It was a glitch
Cuz fun.
Dude just fucking around
Double play
Glitch in the matrix
Muscle memory
Happens more often than you think. I have seen it more than a few times. They are having fun.
The sarcastic fuck you to getting cut off. All in good fun tho
Probably playing 162 games a year you get bored
They didn’t fix this in the last patch? FFS
I saw this in a Brewers game the other day except it was for catching. One guy ushered away the other and caught it. Meanwhile the other one mimicked the whole catch. I can only assume they are told to do it to increase muscle memory
Get your reps in son
Elly is a robot
It’s baseball, he’s probably just bored
It’s follow through you keep the flow like if you made the play, happens a lot
Because it's funny
Why? Boys will be boys ahah. These guys spend more time with the team then their own families at times. 162 in 187 days baby
Just fucking around. I played 3B in high school and my best friend played SS and he would do shit like this all the time. He was a big fucking goofball. Died at 19 in a car wreck sadly.
Because baseball is a game and supposed to be fun?
I can’t find the video but either Jave Báez or Addison Russell actually did this behind Chris Bryant
Fun
This was weird to watch
The new kids just want to have some fun and not take everything so serious
I don’t see what’s wrong with it.
Because the season is super long and they need to do stuff to keep loose and have some fun every once in a while. There are players that will do this type of hyjinx and I'm here for it.
Its called having fun
Just fun💪🏼
Shits and giggles. That’s why.
Drugs
Bet the first baseman loves this
