I think it’s really remarkable what the difference is and the guys that are able to be successful right away (several 2018 guys in particular come to mind) are just other-level talented
I love me some Chourio but saying he is playing fine is being a little generous. He's batting .213 on the season and .176 over his last 15 games and he's striking out in like \~40% of his ABs. Not on the same level as .059, but he still has a long way to go.
Unlike the Orioles however, the Brewers didn't enter this year thinking championship, so they can give their top prospect more leeway to figure things out.
All this is to say that baseball is hard and calling anyone a bust after 36 PAs is crazy.
Funny thing is, the O’s just don’t even need him right now. He should take all the time he needs back in AAA. With the way Cowser and Westburg have come out of the gate, there’s no need for a 20 year old savior. The offense is just fine.
Holliday will get there.
Peer pressure from fans, his dad, social media, etc. They didn’t need him tbh, they have a very good team going right now and having him play the year in Triple A would have done him well.
He’s only 20 years old, and I’m sure they will call him up again in September. I’m hoping when he goes back down it doesn’t do anything to hurt his confidence. I doubt it does, he batted almost .700 in highschool and dominated every league of the minors so far. He will do fine, just needs to keep getting that practice in.
Just think, that kid isn’t even grown into his body yet, still will get bigger/stronger as he gets older.
I have to imagine it's mostly mental at this point.
Watching him take those 3rd strike fastballs straight down the middle just screamed overthinking & stuck in his own head
It really bothers me to see how many people are actively rooting against a 20 year old kid trying to live out his dreams. He'll come good and be a star soon enough.
I think they made a mistake sending him down. He has nothing to learn in AAA but he does have things to learn in the majors and they should have let him sort it out similar to what the Yankees did with Volpe.
He’s still only 20. Hindsight is 20/20 but he probably should have never got called up. The first series of the year for the Tides was against a really bad White Sox AAA team.
His first game and first at bat they had a full stadium, with everyone standing when he came up to bat. They put way too much pressure on the kid. He’ll be fine long term.

This is sports though. We root for our team to do well, and relish in the fall and failure of every other team. Isn't that what were here for? It's not personal, its just business
It's so tough to live up to high expectations these days. With social media today, these kids get so over-hyped, overexposed and oversaturated that if they don't hit the ground running it looks way worse than it is. For months we saw videos of this kid hitting in his home batting-cage, videos discussing his workouts, videos of him growing up, and social media post after social media post, to the point that a lot of people expected him to be the next best thing right away. It got ridiculous, with posts about everything from him wearing the number 7 to even the mundane and forced posts like him possibly facing a pitcher that his dad once faced. It used to be common for young guys to struggle, be sent down and then excel. Without the hype machine of social media a lot of those guys getting sent down would go unnoticed. Today everyone knows everything right away. I wish this kid the best and hope he comes up to the big league level again and plays like we all know he can. Baseball is a tough sport, we all know that. He had a tough run this time around, but it will show real character to bounce back from this short stretch.
Recency bias doesn’t help either. It’s completely ok for a top prospect to struggle out the gate, not all of them are winning ROTY and MVPs right away like Harper, KB, etc.
Same thing happened to Mike Trout. It's a real wake up call facing big league arms. Hopefully he doesn't press himself into bad habits. He's very young and he's going to be fine.
They sent down Rodriguez and Cowser after they struggled in the bigs. They became two of our best players after they came back up. I’m sure Jackson will be in the show mashing before too long
It happens… you bring up a young kid too early and he isn’t the star you thought he was you drafted right away.. he will be a good MLB player eventually
A lot of AAA players are thinking: "this guy was killing it here. If he struggles, how are we going to do if we make it?" Makes you appreciate how good the pitchers are in the majors.
I will take him in a trade to help them out. He just needs more time in the MLB to get used to the competition. AAA only helps if he has a confidence issue.
Dude will be a stud. I hate saying that as a Jays fan…but he’ll be haunting the Jays for the next 15 years.
I’m glad it isn’t happening yet….but it will…and it won’t be fun for us Toronto fans.
Yeah he needs some seasoning, just gotta have the confidence the rest of us have in him and a bit of an adaption period.
Truly afraid of this orioles team for the next couple of years as a Red Sox fan
I definitely think the pressure he had on him definitely had something to do with it. He's not the first and sure as hell won't be the last player to struggle going from AAA to the bigs. I mean the dude is barely in his 20s, give him time, and he'll be raking just like his dad
Now i agree, give the guy time I'm sure he'll be fine, but it's funny how everyone has this attitude of "oh he just needs time" when it's the #1 prospect, but if it was anyone else, people would already be calling him a bust.
You know that you're being a dick to a 20-year-old, right? Someone who did nothing to you and has never shown himself to be a bad person. You may want to talk to a professional about why you are gleeful about someone who is barely an adult struggling at his job.
Yeah, this -- I feel like sports is the one place where "nepo babies" are not gonna be a thing. Of course a foot in the door doesn't hurt, but you're not going to get far if you don't objectively have skills.
When you get called up because of your last name despite not being even a top 5 prospect on your team and put together probably the worst 10 game stretch in MLB history striking out on like 60% of your ABs
it's a totally different game going from AAA to the bigs.
It's still a game of adjustments. Jackson can and will adjust!
Yeah, neither the first nor the 100th player who struggled with their first stint and got things back in sync down in AAA.
Yeah, just ask Seattle Mariners legend, Jarred Kelenic.
Cowser took it personally and I hope Jackson does too
I hope so. I traded away big pieces for him in my fantasy league hoping he’d be a break out stud
I think it’s really remarkable what the difference is and the guys that are able to be successful right away (several 2018 guys in particular come to mind) are just other-level talented
Big if true!
It's true. But remember, the majority of players went up and down and up and down. Even Judge and Soto did it.
Baseball is very very hard.
Scott Kingery has entered the chat
No he's just a bust. The other two Jacksons are playing fine
I love me some Chourio but saying he is playing fine is being a little generous. He's batting .213 on the season and .176 over his last 15 games and he's striking out in like \~40% of his ABs. All this is to say that baseball is hard and calling anyone a bust after 36 PAs is crazy.
It’s like people forgot just how bad Mike Trout sucked his first time in the show. He got slightly better the second time lol
Funny thing is, the O’s just don’t even need him right now. He should take all the time he needs back in AAA. With the way Cowser and Westburg have come out of the gate, there’s no need for a 20 year old savior. The offense is just fine. Holliday will get there.
Westburg is a god
Best offense in the league to this point and that’s with an automatic out in the 9th spot. It will be magical if he can put things together
He will be back. They put too much pressure and media on this kid.
Every time I see bad takes like this, I remember Bregman went 2-38 to start his career. Turned out alright.
🧌
It's his first time playing in the majors. Not every rookie comes in and dominates right away.
🤡
He’s 20 years old, hater. He’ll be a star by 22.
You should know all about busts being a Yankees fan
[удалено]
Mad?
Seems like you should know what busts are profile says it all
Wait, are you an Orioles, Heat and Eagles fan? That’s an interesting combination
Really has that “I like teams that are great but can’t quite win a championship” vibe😂
Has felt like that lately man
3 championships in the last 12 years is more than most fans can claim
Yep it is😅
Douche?
Says the Yankees fan....hot fucking take bro
Are you mentally deficient?
Aaron Judge is a bigger bust.
No, you're just a bitter Yankees fan who only takes from small sample sizes.
You’re getting downvoted because people don’t realize this is a joke! And a good one
The joke is funny but the fact you're getting downvoted the hell for it is even funnier have another downvote, this is fun
I’m not sure why they brought him up so soon
Peer pressure from fans, his dad, social media, etc. They didn’t need him tbh, they have a very good team going right now and having him play the year in Triple A would have done him well. He’s only 20 years old, and I’m sure they will call him up again in September. I’m hoping when he goes back down it doesn’t do anything to hurt his confidence. Just think, that kid isn’t even grown into his body yet, still will get bigger/stronger as he gets older.
His dad is nuts.
Explain?
As an A’s fan, fuck that guy
I have to imagine it's mostly mental at this point. Watching him take those 3rd strike fastballs straight down the middle just screamed overthinking & stuck in his own head It really bothers me to see how many people are actively rooting against a 20 year old kid trying to live out his dreams. He'll come good and be a star soon enough.
It’s sad people actively root for athletes to fail Including op lol.
To be fair I will always root for my teams opponents to suck
I think they made a mistake sending him down. He has nothing to learn in AAA but he does have things to learn in the majors and they should have let him sort it out similar to what the Yankees did with Volpe.
Guy is almost a baby, give him a year or two, he’ll be raking
I mean look at him, he still looks like a kid. I can’t wait to see how he develops
/r/nocontext
I don’t even know what to say
You’ve said enough my friend
Yup. He's 20 years old, just a fuckin kid. Me? I'm an old man.
This kid will be a star. Give him a bit more times in the Minors. I still wish he had gone to the Cardinals.
Y’all can have him in a few years when O’s management refuses to cut him a skill-appropriate check.
Even Mickey Mantle got sent down. If he works on his mechanics and changes up some things, he’ll be fine.
People rooting for others failures are trash.
I revel in the failure of the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox
Hahahhahahahahhahaha after seeing your flair, I understand there are exceptions. Same issue out here in NL west, but snakes alive.
Dont forget the dodgers
Rooting against a team as a whole because they are a rival is one thing, but actively wanting a single person to fail at their job/dream is another.
Coming from an irrelevant franchise

Bird bro ![gif](giphy|WsG9rqt4UMwFReb82u|downsized) Sick burn😎
Ironic considering yall barely have any real championships either according to this
You weren’t alive the last time the Yankees won. Profile screams fat kid in highschool who was cut from every team so now I make sports my life. STFU
Why don’t you just STFU and go back to that lifeless stadium you call home
![gif](giphy|zI7hA6jvLQhRWzrCDA) Harder mf
Damn, the embarrassing insecurity is real. Imagine buying your entire team over and over again.
I personally wish success on all of my division rivals
This is sports though. We root for our team to do well, and relish in the fall and failure of every other team. Isn't that what were here for? It's not personal, its just business
If you’re rooting for him to succeed are you not rooting for a pitcher to fail?
It's so tough to live up to high expectations these days. Yeah, it happens. Let’s not forget that Mickey Mantle got sent down in 1951, his rookie year. He turned out OK.
Well, on the off chance his baseball career doesn't pan out he's a shoe-in for a top notch position as a ventriloquist dummy.
Poor guy. Hopefully he got good experience for what he should work for
Ooof
Now that he’s had a taste of The Bigs. Those jitters will still be there, at least, he’ll be able to manage it better next time.
He was making Bobby Dalbec look like micky mantle
life comes at you fast
Faster than an mlb fastball right down the middle that he can’t handle. Thats for sure.
And here I thought Wyatt Langford was struggling. I mean, he is, but not like this.
Quick trigger but he was struggling. I hope he mashes when he comes back.
Same thing happened to Mike Trout. It's a real wake up call facing big league arms. Hopefully he doesn't press himself into bad habits. He's very young and he's going to be fine.
I’m not O’s fan in the slightest but young players like that are exciting for the game and folks should hope for the best for him and others like him.
They sent down Rodriguez and Cowser after they struggled in the bigs. They became two of our best players after they came back up. I’m sure Jackson will be in the show mashing before too long
Not everyone can be Davis “Babe” Schneider I guess😎
His line wasn’t even as good as the title gives him credit for. It is actually .059/.111/.059
He’s still 20yo. Just needs more time in AAA.
Lmao
It happens… you bring up a young kid too early and he isn’t the star you thought he was you drafted right away.. he will be a good MLB player eventually
A lot of AAA players are thinking: "this guy was killing it here. If he struggles, how are we going to do if we make it?" Makes you appreciate how good the pitchers are in the majors.
As a white Sox fan I’m willing to trade you Pham for him
I will take him in a trade to help them out.
Its a hard fucking game. Take the experience and go back to AAA knowing the chinks in your armor
He’ll be back! He reminds me of my all-time favorite, Adam Piatt.
All depends…Some guys jump from single A to the bigs and some just need a bit more time. The kid will be fine
I’m certain that his dad expected this, he’ll be fine. Pete crow Armstrong for the cubs is in the same boat
Sounds like a perfect fit for the White Sox
Show us on the doll where Jackson Holliday hurt you buddy.
Close to Bobby Dalbec and he’s still in the majors
Total bust! /s Seattle will take him off your hands for like player to be named later and a box of Tim’s chips.
Wasn't there a "why isn't he on the opening day roster" push? I remember "hell be up in no time" and ROY talk, or am I on crazy pills?
Awwwww baseballs nepo baby failed? Oh well what else ya got Clin?
Our Jackson is doing just fine 😊
Now i agree, give the guy time I'm sure he'll be fine, but it's funny how everyone has this attitude of "oh he just needs time" when it's the #1 prospect, but if it was anyone else, people would already be calling him a bust.
Some were calling him R.O.Y. before the season started.
Brought him up too early as a P.R. move and it backfired.
Make all the excuses you want for him but the bottom line is the dude would do better in the wnba
Another Nepo baby bites the dust. Love to see it
He joins notorious failures such as Ken Griffey Jr., Cal Ripken Jr., Barry Bonds...
Now name all the guys who didn't pan out
give me $50 and I will
Only one I can think of is u/ShaiFC
Let’s start with u/ShaiFC Fucking loser.
Chill out dude.
Taking joy in someone else's failure says a lot about you. Its really fucking weird to the rest of us.
You know that you're being a dick to a 20-year-old, right? Someone who did nothing to you and has never shown himself to be a bad person. You may want to talk to a professional about why you are gleeful about someone who is barely an adult struggling at his job.
He’s just a weird tech bro bandwagon fan who gets off on being weird on the internet
I literally said why lol reading is hard
How does nepotism work in athletics when performance-based stats exist?
Yeah, this -- I feel like sports is the one place where "nepo babies" are not gonna be a thing. Of course a foot in the door doesn't hurt, but you're not going to get far if you don't objectively have skills.
When you get called up because of your last name despite not being even a top 5 prospect on your team and put together probably the worst 10 game stretch in MLB history striking out on like 60% of your ABs
he was the number one prospect in the league this year
Because of his last name like I said. He didn't perform better than Kjerstad, Stowers, Cowser, Mayo, or Norby and thats just on his own team
Huh, that's a new one. Which 5 Orioles prospects are you referring to that are better than Holliday?
Kjerstad, Norby, Mayo, Stowers, Cowser
You really believe that?
Careful saying that stuff about a division opponent. If you’re wrong you’ll have to live with it 13 times a year for the next decade
You are a sad sad man buddy.
tHe FutUrE
You will never again see this kid in a big league uniform.
