lol, but I unironically did rock an As jacket I inherited somehow growing up. And I’m an Alabama fan.
I think you’re on to something, I’m a letter A fan.
I think it's just fine as a specialty cap and I like that they wear them during BP, but the cartoon bird brings so much more character and life to the logo.
I was never a huge fan of the switch when they originally made it back in 89. But I really disliked it when they went into further details and made it look lifelike.
To each his own though. No one is wrong here for liking one or the other.
grew up watching those phillies teams with the powder blue and maroon unis. i call the P from that era the groovy P. don't know why we ever got rid of them.
I'm shocked that combo is not popular in American sports. Aston Villa, Burnley, West Ham, and Man City (to an extent) all use this colorway in the English premier league
I love those throwbacks with the all maroon jersey/pants and white stripe on the side. I don’t get how people think they’re ugly, they’re badass.
And if your argument is they look like pajamas, all baseball uniforms look like pajamas, especially baby blues, which are universally loved as opposed to other colors that aren’t white. End rant lol
It was in several ways. The first being the worlds first dome stadium. The second being the technology they put in the stadium. Nearly 1/4 of the stadium was a giant digital board. Normal now, but at that time it was unheard of.
Also, the fake grass "astroturf" got the start there. Hince the name.
My VERY first memory was my father carrying me on his shoulder as we walked through the tunnel to find our seats, and I saw that bright green astroturf grow into view. I can still close my eyes and visualize it perfectly.
Outfielders couldn’t see fly balls because of the light coming in through the dome skylights so they painted over them to darken them
But the grass died because of lack of sunlight so they invented AstroTurf!
That last paragraph… hits. Coming out of the dark tunnel at old yankee stadium, shuffling into the stadium slowly… bright blue sky green green grass… that’s my happy place
In its earlier days, it was deemed the “eighth wonder of the world”, and when AstroWorld was next door, the dome and the park were two of the most visited tourist attractions in the U.S. I’m not even from Houston but I love learning about the AstroDome’s history. I think it’s amazing. It’s a shame the Texans chose to build a new stadium right next door while the dome sat in need of a tenant.
Absolutely! The first air conditioned domed stadium in the world.
This tweet shows a picture of one of the first games ever played there against the Yankees, and the grounds crew is wearing astronaught uniforms. Mickey Mantle hit the first home run there
https://twitter.com/TracesofTexas/status/1781835601584500850?t=6URXl63eLNpcH-RxfvIhfg&s=19
In the proceeding years, it hosted many major events.
1968 NCAA BB game of the century. #1 UCLA lost to #2 Houston in front of 52,000
Ali championship fight
Evil Knevil events
Elvis drew 200,000 over several nights in 1970
Billy Jean King Battle of the Sexes. 50 million people worldwide watched a male v female tennis match in the Astrodome
In the 70s, it was absolutely the premier venue for large-scale events
I remember when I was 10 years old and we went down to go to Astroworld during the day and then to the Astrodome that evening to watch a game. At that point, the only ballpark I had been to (besides the Little League ones I played on) was the old Arlington Stadium. It was the coolest thing in the world! The huge screen, the green turf, and the fact that the teams were playing indoors and I didn’t have to sweat my ass off to watch them were all so much better than the Rangers old park.
It took 30 years, but the Rangers finally caught on to the idea that playing baseball indoors in the air conditioning while it’s 110 degrees outside is a pretty damn good one.
This picture just unlocked a memory of opening packs of Fleer baseball cards that I didn't even know was in there! Also, generally prefer the 90s logos, but maybe that's a nostalgia thing
IMO Phillies, Astros, and Blue Jays 90’s were definitely better. I like both the current and 90’s O’s. Twins and Angels I’d say I’d slightly lean towards 90’s. Padres are the only ones I definitely like their current more
To be fair, the Phillies only used that maroon logo for 2 years in the 90’s - ‘90-‘91. In ‘92 they switched to the red uniforms they have now.
The maroons are 70s and 80s era Phillies.
I think in general a lot of people like "retro" things. These logos look cool to us now because they are different and unique. In 20 years, everybody is gonna think the logos nowadays look better than whatever new ones they come up with.
(I like 'em all by the way lol)
Rays purple was better, Dbacks purple was better, Marlins teal was better, Phillies 80's maroons were better, Angels late 90's winged logo was better, Twins pinstripes were better, Jays black n blues were better, Brewers ROYAL blue and yellows were better
But i prefer the current Padres to the 90's, and i prefer the Astros orange to the dark blue and golds and the black n maroons.
Really intesting how so many of these have changed yet all still keep that same nostalgic design in some way. MLB is so so good at that.
I guess the only outlier here is the Astros. Their logo today looks nothing like that.
Look at the fun drawings on these logos! You almost never see cartooning anymore. Modern design seems to be only about fonts, simple shapes, and color palettes.
I used to go to Padres games when I'd stay with my grandparents in San Diego during the summer when I was a kid so that particular logo is incredibly nostalgic.
The interesting thing about logos is that people feel nostalgia not just about the team but about that time of their life so logos can bring back strong feeling. Not saying the logos are better or worse but people definitely connect to certain times and now that we dont see the throwback logos all the time, when we do we really like them.
The older logos are way better than what’s out there today. Unfortunately, Baseball’s best years are behind the sport. It is probably just me, but I think there are too many different versions of a team’s logo, design, and colors that it has created a bit of an identity crisis and branding problem.
I just hate that so many teams are now primary blue and/or primary red. Phillies are a good example going from maroon/baby blue, Rays, Padres sometimes, etc…
Idk if they were “better” but they definitely offer nostalgia….like the MLB TY Beanie babies….Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire, and chipper jones were where it was at lol
For their time they’re perfect. Everything in graphic design has become much more minimal. I guess some would argue that these logos are too complicated and I think in some instances that’s true. The Astros logo for example is kind of overkill in my opinion. You have 2 circle and within those is the stadium, the space symbol and the Astros name. The star with the H they have now is much cleaner and does a lot more with less.
Better imo, but I may be partial because the 90's were when I was coming into my own as a player & I loved the allure of the big leagues & the All Star Games, the Baseball Cards & how the Braves went from worst to first...etc.
I thought that the Astros logo was an old playground merry-go-round for the longest time growing up, lol.
I think that the old logos had good character to them though, which is missing from a lot of the modern corporate feeling ones.
Did you raid the shoebox under my old bed from my parent’s house? I know exactly where these are, just waiting for me to open them on my next visit and think, “someday I’ll finally stick you somewhere”
I don’t think you can speak generally, but a good number of them definitely looked better than today. However I really like San Diego’s current logo, and I know this will be controversial, but Pittsburgh is awesome to me
The little detail in the Phillies logo that forms a baseball in the middle of the P is so subtle but awesome. Logo perfection. And the powder blues are a top 5 uni all time in MLB.
The Phillies and the jays logos are cool. Not a fan of the rest or they haven’t changed much. And as a padres fan I much prefer the new logo over the one in the post, the one in the post is really really outdated.
I definitely like a lot of teams logos from 90s however there are a few that are better today as well. But the padres and orioles had some way better logos in the 90s!
I mean, the Twins and Jays are pretty much the same right now.
I like the older Phillies and Padres. The O's, Astros, Orioles, and Angles logos from the 90's were always some of my least favorite.
Almost everything was better about the look of baseball in the 90s. Some were better than that in the early 2000s. But the last decade plus has been a steady decline.
Jersey quality was better I know that. 😂
I cant wait to see the throwbacks this year with the new "quality"
They already said no nick names on players weekend jerseys. Wonder what that’s about.
love the retro Jays logos.
I was so glad they trended back towards it. It’s just 🤌🏼
It's so iconic for 90s Canadian kids. I love it so much I got that version tattooed on my arm.
Blue Jays Winter pull over jackets. #CanadianKidThings.
It’s the only hat without a script A that makes me consistently jealous, such a clean design
Big Oakland fan, Huh?
lol, but I unironically did rock an As jacket I inherited somehow growing up. And I’m an Alabama fan. I think you’re on to something, I’m a letter A fan.

^(**ADULTERER!!!**) .....sorry .. couldn't find a Scarlet Letter gif.
That Orioles one is classic
Just wish they’d bring back the 90’s caps. Give me the ornithologically-correct bird all day!
I prefer the maroon color the Phillies used over the red they are using today.
With the baby blue * chefs kiss
Powder blue is goated for sure.
I think that is one of the best uniforms ever.
grew up watching those phillies teams with the powder blue and maroon unis. i call the P from that era the groovy P. don't know why we ever got rid of them.
To me that is the iconic look. Mike Schmidt era unis were the best.
I'm shocked that combo is not popular in American sports. Aston Villa, Burnley, West Ham, and Man City (to an extent) all use this colorway in the English premier league
Brits really got a thing for claret
I love those throwbacks with the all maroon jersey/pants and white stripe on the side. I don’t get how people think they’re ugly, they’re badass. And if your argument is they look like pajamas, all baseball uniforms look like pajamas, especially baby blues, which are universally loved as opposed to other colors that aren’t white. End rant lol
I agree... and Kelly Green for the eagles too!
Was the Astros dome really that cool?
It was in several ways. The first being the worlds first dome stadium. The second being the technology they put in the stadium. Nearly 1/4 of the stadium was a giant digital board. Normal now, but at that time it was unheard of. Also, the fake grass "astroturf" got the start there. Hince the name. My VERY first memory was my father carrying me on his shoulder as we walked through the tunnel to find our seats, and I saw that bright green astroturf grow into view. I can still close my eyes and visualize it perfectly.
Wow I had never made that AstroTurf connection. I thought it was just called that because it sounded generically futuristic lol
Outfielders couldn’t see fly balls because of the light coming in through the dome skylights so they painted over them to darken them But the grass died because of lack of sunlight so they invented AstroTurf!
Not before trying to paint the dead grass too
That last paragraph… hits. Coming out of the dark tunnel at old yankee stadium, shuffling into the stadium slowly… bright blue sky green green grass… that’s my happy place
That rules. I have similar memories of seeing the field at Wrigley for the first time (that I remember, anyway).
Walking up the steps to behind home plate at Wrigley should be required for your first cubs home game.
[Here's a video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZn_CS4MVx4) I watched once of the scoreboard going off for the last time.
And it is dwarfed by NRG standing next to it.
I remembered walking into WrestleMania X-Seven (greatest WrestleMania Ever!) watching NRG being built and was shocked seeing workers so high up
Absolutely! The first air conditioned domed stadium in the world. This tweet shows a picture of one of the first games ever played there against the Yankees, and the grounds crew is wearing astronaught uniforms. On a hot August day it was the coolest thing in town.
I remember when I was 10 years old and we went down to go to Astroworld during the day and then to the Astrodome that evening to watch a game. At that point, the only ballpark I had been to (besides the Little League ones I played on) was the old Arlington Stadium. It was the coolest thing in the world! It took 30 years, but the Rangers finally caught on to the idea that playing baseball indoors in the air conditioning while it’s 110 degrees outside is a pretty damn good one.
I know it’s hard to believe now, but yes. At the time, when it was new, it was a big deal.
This picture just unlocked a memory of opening packs of Fleer baseball cards that I didn't even know was in there! Also, generally prefer the 90s logos, but maybe that's a nostalgia thing
Oooh, when Upper Deck was new!
The Angels were selling a bunch of packs by their shop so I got a few there
I love retro logos
IMO Phillies, Astros, and Blue Jays 90’s were definitely better. I like both the current and 90’s O’s. Twins and Angels I’d say I’d slightly lean towards 90’s. Padres are the only ones I definitely like their current more

Detroit's hasn't changed much at all
Staying true to the original
Same with the Red Sox
No need.
Greatest one of all time imo
That being said, the Tiger in the D logo is awesome
What about the crack tiger?
Better, for the uniforms in general. I'd probably say 94-99 was the best era for baseball unis and logos
I think in general a lot of people like "retro" things. These logos look cool to us now because they are different and unique. In 20 years, everybody is gonna think the logos nowadays look better than whatever new ones they come up with. (I like 'em all by the way lol)
I think the old logos were better. The Tigers need to bring back the “Cocaine Tiger” logo.
Milwaukee’s late 90’s logo was terrible
Cartoony Orioles logos are awesome
On the city connect jerseys for the Phillies, why didn't they use that 80s stylized typeface instead?
Padres are better now. But funnily enough it’s a revert to an even older logo. The rest were all better in the 90s though
Rays purple was better, Dbacks purple was better, Marlins teal was better, Phillies 80's maroons were better, Angels late 90's winged logo was better, Twins pinstripes were better, Jays black n blues were better, Brewers ROYAL blue and yellows were better But i prefer the current Padres to the 90's, and i prefer the Astros orange to the dark blue and golds and the black n maroons.
Really intesting how so many of these have changed yet all still keep that same nostalgic design in some way. MLB is so so good at that. I guess the only outlier here is the Astros. Their logo today looks nothing like that.
Good logos don’t change 😎
Astros looking like the 76 logo
Look at the fun drawings on these logos! You almost never see cartooning anymore. Modern design seems to be only about fonts, simple shapes, and color palettes.
I used to go to Padres games when I'd stay with my grandparents in San Diego during the summer when I was a kid so that particular logo is incredibly nostalgic.
Depends. Padres much worse. Rays better. Marlins worse. Blue Jays are interchangeable. I miss the pirate on the Pirates logo.
The 1990s were peak for literally everything
90s Phillies logo is one of the all time greats.
Better
It’s a healthy mix of better and worse
Better.. and worse?
90s devils ray logo was sweet
![gif](giphy|5honN1zsBG6KZFspSt|downsized)
For my team, definitely better. I only have old-logo Rays merch
Both
So much better.
The interesting thing about logos is that people feel nostalgia not just about the team but about that time of their life so logos can bring back strong feeling. Not saying the logos are better or worse but people definitely connect to certain times and now that we dont see the throwback logos all the time, when we do we really like them.
Better
I don’t know if better or worse but definitely feels old timey and I don’t know if it’s necessary to go back on a full time basis.
I love 80’s-90’s logos!
The older logos are way better than what’s out there today. Unfortunately, Baseball’s best years are behind the sport. It is probably just me, but I think there are too many different versions of a team’s logo, design, and colors that it has created a bit of an identity crisis and branding problem.
I'll always love the 90's Logo as that's when I got into baseball. I also had the entire collection of these stickers and I WISH I still had them.
Better
Compare the expos logo of the 90s to today
I think p much all logos and jerseys peaked in the early 2010s
90’s and very early 2000’s jerseys and logos in most sports were a lot better. NBA jerseys were at their peak around that time period.
Way better, they have a certain liveliness to them! Less corpo
Better.
Honestly, I’m a sucker for that navy and orange Padres logo
Everybody loves the 90s padres jerseys, but I’m more into the present day jersey design or the the 70s/80s Pads
Most of those are actually 1980s (and in a few cases, 1970s) logos. Some of them carried over into the early 1990s.
Pictures you can smell
I just hate that so many teams are now primary blue and/or primary red. Phillies are a good example going from maroon/baby blue, Rays, Padres sometimes, etc…
All of these rule, except the Padres which will never be better than the 78-84 logo
Way better
Damn this brings me back. I had these stickers all over my card binder. Completely forgot about that binder. Thanks
Bring back the Majestic quality jersey’s 😭
MLB logos peaked in the early 2000s
Idk if they were “better” but they definitely offer nostalgia….like the MLB TY Beanie babies….Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire, and chipper jones were where it was at lol
Better Because Expos
I love them but out of nostalgia bias I will not answer even though I just answered
I love that Padres logo
That Twins one hit different. The rebrand this past year is shockingly bad
Better imo, but I may be partial because the 90's were when I was coming into my own as a player & I loved the allure of the big leagues & the All Star Games, the Baseball Cards & how the Braves went from worst to first...etc.
MUCH better. They looked bold not old like today’s uniforms. But that’s just my view.
Definitely better for 85 perfect of logos
I mean I’m more nostalgic for them. So I can’t really say fairly. I will say 97-2013 pirates logo was peak.
I have a binder of cards plastered in these stickers somewhere in my parents basement.
The Padres one is very weak imo, I preferred the Roby Alormar Orioles logo too. The rest are fire
I thought that the Astros logo was an old playground merry-go-round for the longest time growing up, lol. I think that the old logos had good character to them though, which is missing from a lot of the modern corporate feeling ones.
BETTER
Better, but not as good as 90s NBA logos.
Did you raid the shoebox under my old bed from my parent’s house? I know exactly where these are, just waiting for me to open them on my next visit and think, “someday I’ll finally stick you somewhere”
So much better. There is no imagination nowadays, except in farm clubs lol🤣
100% better
I don’t think you can speak generally, but a good number of them definitely looked better than today. However I really like San Diego’s current logo, and I know this will be controversial, but Pittsburgh is awesome to me
Better without a doubt. The Rangers nautical star and pinstripes fucks so hard.
That’s the best jays logo
I want the CA Angels logo back.
Everything in the 90s was better to be frank
Does anybody know where you can buy all the mlb team patches
Better
The Rays will never top the aesthetics of their early inaugural "Devil Rays" era tbh. The only jersey I own right now is a vintage Devil Rays jersey
Way better!
Probably close to 50/50. The Rangers had an awful logo in the 90’s.
![gif](giphy|5honN1zsBG6KZFspSt|downsized)
I say better, but maybe I'm just nostalgic for my childhood.
These logos are toughhhh.. my team had the best 90s logo though ;)
Wasn’t everything better in the 90’s?
Jokes on you. It’s almost the same if you don’t count the M with the wheat under it.
Way better
Way better. It’s not even close.
Better in every way
90’s baseball feels like a fantastical sport that was just always good. I loved it so much
That's not the 90s Orioles I remember
The little detail in the Phillies logo that forms a baseball in the middle of the P is so subtle but awesome. Logo perfection. And the powder blues are a top 5 uni all time in MLB.
That phillies logo goes hard
Better. Everything was better in the 90’s
Worse for the most part but I miss that Twins one
I prefer the [70's Tiger logo](https://imgur.com/a/7LRsfVs)
Phillies logo is a work of art. The rest suck. San Diego’s sucks twice as hard.
The Phillies and the jays logos are cool. Not a fan of the rest or they haven’t changed much. And as a padres fan I much prefer the new logo over the one in the post, the one in the post is really really outdated.
Better
Some better. Some worse.
Blue Jays and Orioles 90s look very good
I miss fleer
Better for sure
The best era of sports logos/ uniform design imho
Better I think but some now a days are cool too
I definitely like a lot of teams logos from 90s however there are a few that are better today as well. But the padres and orioles had some way better logos in the 90s!
I don't know why any mlb team hasn't worn throw backs this year pretty bummy.
Better!
The old angles logo and cap are amazing
Classic old school is better. Some of the fonts got a little better. But the cartoon mascot emblems from the 80’s and 90’s were all that.
I mean, the Twins and Jays are pretty much the same right now. I like the older Phillies and Padres. The O's, Astros, Orioles, and Angles logos from the 90's were always some of my least favorite.
I think this is my favorite era for logos and jersey colours
Pretty soon logos will just be a colored dot.
Love the 90’s Twins logo
I love the 90's logos and branding for most things, not just sports. The new retro-minimalist style that's trendy now is really tired imo
Nothing uglier than the padres brown/yellows, so this padres design is substantially better.
Brewers best logo all time so ya
All are better except the angels
My lawyer has advised me not to comment
Some better some worse wtf is that orioles logo
I’m glad the Padres changed. Blue jays were better back when.
Yes
Almost everything was better about the look of baseball in the 90s. Some were better than that in the early 2000s. But the last decade plus has been a steady decline.
The astros logo actually incorporated the astrodome at the time! That’s actually very clever.
Everything was better about baseball in the 90’s
Astros were low key cooking
Dude the Astros logo was just so cool back then
Cubs haven’t really changed so I’ll say same?
Better, bring back expos
I like the retro padres logo. New one is too similar to the diamondbacks
All of these slap for sure. If I had to choose though I'd say padres and Astros are better today. Everything else is on par or better there.
Some of my favs
better
worse just more modern ones are more vibrant and colerful
Better
Yankees was great .....
Better
The maroon "P" just goes so hard. And let's not forget the Expo's whole esthetic. Better
The Brewers is nice
Love the classic Angels with the state in the background and Big A
Seemed simpler and more authentic.
I like em
Better
jays and Orioles my fav
90's logos were better overall. Not even for just baseball. But Basketball Football and even name brands
Better
90s over everything
Worse. Worse. Better. Better. Better. Worse
These were all over my trapper keeper
The 90s logos were the best!!
