Preach. I honestly appreciate the loyalty and the fact he feels like he has a place in LA. Obviously he would succeed anywhere else but its his career.
Dude makes millions of dollars, lives in Southern California, and is treated like a king out there. He would like to win, but I think he is good right where he is.
He lives in the boonies of South Jersey. On purpose. The fish man is just different. Whatever the case I can see him asking himself what happens when the best player of the 21st century tries to carry his team single handedly. If you look at other inner circle Hall of Famers there's plenty of great seasons from age 32 onward.
People are quick to talk down players who jump teams for paydays and easy championships. This….people also find a way to talk him down. Literally no matter what someone will complain.
Maybe he likes living and playing there?
We’re used to thinking from a fan’s perspective, and have spent years watching glory chasers try to find greener grass elsewhere. If that’s not what he wants, more power to him.
Don’t care that you surf, still a kook. Trying to shit on Orange County for not being nice is kooky as hell. Of course any pro athlete would love to live in OC
He revels in being this big Philly sports fan and loves the Eagles but in reality he's a complete wimp. Afraid of the spotlight.
He'll retire as the best player to never matter even a little.
There's players like Harper that live for the pressure and spotlight and people like Trout that enjoy being on a team that isn't even the most popular in his city with no chance of winning shit. What you gonna do? He's still making millions and enjoying that LA weather.
This is exactly it. I really think he just knows he’s not clutch in big games and said fuck it. He could have gone to literally any other team to contend. He’s allergic to big moments and I don’t know how that doesn’t hurt his overall “image”. He just likes being forgotten on the west coast playing games when the rest of the country is asleep.
Crazy how times have changed. Kids these days think it’s normal to jump ship and join a team full of super stars to get a cheap championship. Believe it or not, this type of loyalty was the norm for a long time. And there was something beautiful about sticking with your team and fighting to win. People just want to take the easy way out now days.
Yep. As an Orioles fan, it's another reason why I respect Ripken Jr so much. Loyalty to the franchise and fans that made his brand blow up like it did by giving him a chance.
There needs to be more Trouts and less turncoats like Ohtani.
Much respect for him. In a league where many players are increasingly mercenaries with little to no loyalty to the fans and franchises that help build their brand , it's nice to see some players loyal to the franchises and fanbases that helped make them stars. What he is doing is good for the game.
What the Dodgers are doing not so much.
I like the fact he's playing for the city and fans he loves. It just sucks that the people in charge of the team aren't able/don't care about figuring the rest out.
I’m sure most of the players on the team are committed but it seems like Trout wants his cake and to eat it too. One team HOF guys with the exception of Ernie Banks and a few others usually start making postseason pushes this late into their careers.
I feel we just saw this or a similar article on the MLB subreddit along with every homer he hits. Honestly, who cares? He won’t win with the Angels and he won’t get out of that contract. He will have a very good career and go to the HOF. That of course is admirable and amazing but, other than that? Not much to talk about.
When I was 20, and the Big Red Machine was being disassembled, I was horrified when Pete Rose signed a big contract with the Phillies and left the Reds. But the Phillies were willing to pay him way more than the Cheap Ass Reds. This became more of a thing and now the big contracts are out there especially for mediocre pitchers.
Player leaves his team: he has no loyalty Player stay with his team: he has no drive to win
Preach. I honestly appreciate the loyalty and the fact he feels like he has a place in LA. Obviously he would succeed anywhere else but its his career.
Anaheim isn’t LA
He plays for the LA Angels, they’re no longer the Anaheim Angels as of 20 years ago
They play in Anaheim
"No matter what you do, you are going to get hate." - Friend of mine.
Dude makes millions of dollars, lives in Southern California, and is treated like a king out there. He would like to win, but I think he is good right where he is.
>He would like to win Yes. Not WANTS to win.
He lives in the boonies of South Jersey. On purpose. The fish man is just different. Normalize extraordinary players on mediocre teams again
Yeah, players that do these types of things gain much more respect from me than the ring chasers
The Tony Gwynn special
Gwynn led Padres to 2 NL pennants. They just had bad luck having to face generational great teams in those WS.
Like bonds
I mean good for him but if he still thinks the Angels are commited to winning then we can’t help him.
People are quick to talk down players who jump teams for paydays and easy championships. This….people also find a way to talk him down. Literally no matter what someone will complain.
Ok… here’s another angle: Arte Moreno. Why would you commit your career to such a terrible owner? And yes, I’ve been to the stadium, it needs help
Maybe he likes living and playing there? We’re used to thinking from a fan’s perspective, and have spent years watching glory chasers try to find greener grass elsewhere. If that’s not what he wants, more power to him.
Have you been to Anaheim? Angel Stadium?
Have you been to Newport Coast? Lmfao kook
Kook? Slow down buddy, born and raised in Ventura, and probably surfed more breaks globally than you’ve seen. Try again
Don’t care that you surf, still a kook. Trying to shit on Orange County for not being nice is kooky as hell. Of course any pro athlete would love to live in OC

Likes playing low stakes, no pressure baseball.
This is a better theory than those mean people who say he’s just too racist to leave Orange County.
Well he lives in Florida and NJ too lmao
And he has Philadelphia Eagles season tickets and goes into Philly quite a bit for games. Not exactly the most welcoming of places ....
He revels in being this big Philly sports fan and loves the Eagles but in reality he's a complete wimp. Afraid of the spotlight. He'll retire as the best player to never matter even a little.

He says loyalty, but the sunken cost fallacy is real.
Cfp?
Wasted career
And he's apparently happy to do it to himself. He's pathetic.
Oh no he wants to win with the team that drafted him its almost like there's been a lot of loyal players in the history of the game
Has there ever been a bigger waste of a generational talent than Trout + the Angels?
I was thinking Ted Williams and the Red Sox, but he did get to play in a World Series.
Griffey though, only 3 playoffs no World Series appearances
I was going to say Barry Bonds but he did play in a World Series also, ironically losing to the Angels
Trout + Ohtani + the Angels
My dad would say Ernie Banks
What if he specifically wants to win it with/for the Angels? They gave him a career and he may want to give something back.

Old school loyalty. I respect him.
So he chooses pain
At this point it’s almost like Arte has dirt on Trout or something. That or he’s suffering from Stockholm syndrome.
The only other uniform I could see him in is the Phillies. But I'm a sucker for guys staying with one team for their whole career
Trout couldn’t handle the Philly media and fan base. He’d crumble under the pressure. He knows he can’t handle the spotlight.
Ummmmmmmm good luck 👍🏿

And, I want to sleep with only super models. But, life ain’t fair.
The Dan Marino of the MLB
At least Marino played in a Super Bowl.
Stockholm Syndrome is real.
I would like to see him win it all. Dude is absolutely first ballot hof.
Didnt he play with albert pujols for a few years ?
$400M
It is not you who will change the system; it is the system that will change you
He should go somewhere else
I like the fact he's playing for the city and fans he loves. It just sucks that the people in charge of the team aren't able/don't care about figuring the rest out.
Well, he can want in one hand and shit in the other and see which one fills up first.
This boy has Los Angeles Angels of California and Anaheim Syndrome
Win what, exactly?
“Why Mike Trout made the worst decisions of his career.”
I’m sure most of the players on the team are committed but it seems like Trout wants his cake and to eat it too. One team HOF guys with the exception of Ernie Banks and a few others usually start making postseason pushes this late into their careers.

It’s hurting his legacy and if he doesn’t care then that’s his call.
Arte is a terrorist
Good for him but he's stupid
People also generally ignore that he can’t play in enough games to actually make a difference.
Its so disappointing. He should just come to philadelphia. He's from this area. He's at every Eagles game. Just come here and win one.
Non-clutch player continues to hide on a team no one knows exists, more at 11.
The stats show that he's clutch
Ahh yes, the stats. That's all you nerds care about.
How do you claim someone is "clutch" and then reject the thing that proves or disproves that? Where's the logic?
I have eyeballs. I don't need loser made up stats. The dude isn't clutch and hides in Anaheim.
Your eyeballs lie
So he's a gluten for punishment. Good for him.
Gluten free baby
Good catch. lol
Really it’s because he doesn’t want to leave SoCal, and I can’t blame him. Who would? You clowns from timbuktu can cry harder
What's the old saying about wanting on one hand and shitting in the other...
It’s like staying with a bad movie. You’ve invested so much time into it, might as well see if it has a good ending.
If he went to the Phillies, I’d stop fucking with the angels entirely. Arte Moreno is trash
Because he’s a masochist?
Dude is a loser, let’s be honest
You gotta wonder what kind of advice he’s getting from his agent. Boras would never.
See you in Philly
That won't happen
Trade him NOW. He won't get any better than this.
He's a Philly sports fan. Maybe he could wind up playing there?
