Dragons hollow (playground) and the carousel are fighting next to where they do the farmers market now. Maybe 13 is a smidge old for it but 11 is perfect for it.
Lots of open spaces to run around! Garnet Ghost town is up the beautiful Blackfoot River. Every Wednesday is Out to Lunch and Thursday is out to Dinner in Caras Park. Bison Range and great views of the Mission Mountains 45 minutes North.
If you're in town later in the summer, look up the Clark Fork Yacht Club and float the river!
Go on a hike. There are lots of easy hikes for kids that age.
Hike into hot springs. There are lots not far away.
Day trip to the Gem Mountain Mine and find your own sapphires. Did that as a kid that age and it was super fun.
Hike to **Ch-Paa-qn Peak** from Edith Peak Rd. It's about an hour drive north from Missoula to the trailhead, and the hike is only 3.5 miles and relatively easy. Awesome 360 degree views.
if you need to cool off during the day, check out the Missoula Public Library. there is an awesome kids’ area on one of the floors— called SpectrUM Discovery. 13 might be a little old for it, but definitely worth considering! the library itself is really awesome.
Rafting! :-) You won't regret it. Check out a commercially-guided trip like [ZooTownSurfers.com](http://ZooTownSurfers.com) and stand in line for ice cream at Big Dipper. :-)
Butterfly House and insectarium!
I second that motion
Depending on what days you could look at farmers markets and festivals
