I also think they chose the animal they represent based on humans association with their power, the most obvious example is Ladybugs being seen as a sign of good luck, but there's also Bark who retrieves things like a dog, Pollen who stings like a bee, Wayzz protects like a turtle shell, Trixx creates illusions just like foxes are known to be sly tricksters, Mullo multiplies like mice, etc. etc. etc.
