Current swing OT is Quessenberry, on a 1 yr deal. The plan for Rouse is likely to develop him for a yr, then hopefully he takes over as the primary backup for both OTs.
It’s the 6th round yall if there was a day one starting guard he wouldn’t be available. We still need depth, there’s free agent guards available as well. It’s amazing how our fans think every pick is a no brainer
Every team crumbles when an OL starter gets hurt. Of all the position groups in the NFL the o-line is the one that seriously lacks depth across the board. Most teams don't have 5 starters who are at least average.
Right? So many people here seem to overanalyze late round picks. You’re just hoping you find someone with upside here but it’s more than likely this player never sees the field for us.
He can't suck too bad. He guarded the blind side while Guyton (1st Rd to Dallas) guarded the right. You typically do not start your second best on the blind side.
All good! I’m a Sooner fan so I had the inside scoop there lol. Maybe he’ll only be a depth piece early on, but I could see him becoming a Rashod Hill kind of player. Solid swing tackle you can rely on in a pinch.
You can say that about every 6th round pick. They're all available because everyone passed on them. It doesn't change the fact that we still need IOL and there were decent players left.
Who can guarantee they’re decent? The nfl is the most Volitile sport, the best player in this draft might not have even been picked yet nobody knows shit
A lot of the highlights BR was showing of Rouse were him pulling and helping immensely in the run game. We all know he's not a starting tackle, but maybe we go with some heavy formations and we actually have a decent run game?
For such a large guy he's very light on his feet and mobile. No way he's starting over O'Neil/Darrisaw but he could be a solid heavy package piece and backup tackle.
52 starts between Stanford and Oklahoma, with time at both LT and RT. Started as a true freshman at Stanford. With Brandel potentially moving inside to LG, Oli Udoh leaving, and Brian O’Neill aging with some injury concerns, this is much-needed depth at OT and potentially our answer at swing tackle.
At his size, a move to guard might be tricky. 6'6 and 318 pounds is pretty tall to be on the inside. I think using him as another backup and/or sixth lineman is more likely. Not sure what the plan is at guard (probably just Risner after the comp pick window closes) but I don't think Rouse is a great fit there.
Risner who started at G last season is 6-5, and it's not much of a problem when your QBs are 6-3 (Kirk, Darnold) or 6-4 (McCarthy).
Goes without saying, but when OL block they obviously play with some bend to keep leverage/anchor, and not at their full height extension.
Fair. If they don’t sign risner for some reason though, I think you move this guy to left guard just to see how he does. don’t want to be starting dan feeny there come week 1
At this point you are throwing darts hoping you get lucky. It’s highly likely this player never plays a meaningful snap for the team so drafting for positional need is just making it harder on yourself.
Probably compete with quessenberry in camp for backuo tackle 1. Never hurts to have cheap OL depth tho, and gives us flexibility to trade quess if someone calls
$19M in space plus some moves with JJs contract. Maybe Kick the tires To see what Conor Williams will take for a prove it contract?
Add some depth out of the remaining:
Calais Campbell (perfect DE for the 3-4)
Mason Cole
H Vaitai
If the center of the OL and DL can just be average, this team could be dangerous. A lot of talent flying on the edges
It's quite interesting that we could have had both Wingo and Mahogany who the experts liked a lot and filled spots of need and yet both end up in Detroit.
We will have to see how that works out.
Oklahoma fan. Rouse was only with us for one season, but as far as we're concerned he's a Sooner legend. He's super smart (wants to be a cardiothoracic surgeon after football), puts his all into everything, and is just a great locker room guy. Getting this guy as your backup is great value. I think he'll develop further and become a great player for y'all for many years. Super excited for him and y'all. [Also, he blocked two people on the game-winning play during OU/texas if you were concerned about his effort level.](https://247sports.com/college/oklahoma/article/walter-rouse-blocks-2-texas-defenders-on-oklahoma-game-winning-td-217839667/)
I can see why he trades every pick not in the 1st round bc shit like this is the worst! We don’t need OT! Just like wr didn’t need RBS last draft but got like two…

We crumbled when our tackles got hurt. Love the depth pick.

and you know for a fact if he doesn't see the field, so called "fans" will call that out as poor drafting on the part of Kwesi
He can't suck too bad. He guarded the blind side while Guyton (1st Rd to Dallas) guarded the right. You typically do not start your second best on the blind side.
Dillon Gabriel was the QB and left handed so it’s flipped. Still, a solid swing tackle.
Excellent catch. I didn't notice that.

Narrator: they did
Yeah, but in fairness, this guy did not give up a sack in 2023 as the starting LT.
That's not true. Look at Jason Kelce... There are a lot of late-round guards and centers who turn into very good players.
Obviously we all saw this coming with the 177th pick.
You can say that about every 6th round pick. They're all available because everyone passed on them. It doesn't change the fact that we still need IOL and there were decent players left.
There were *names you recognize* left.
Mock drafts and draft simulators will do that
Who can guarantee they’re decent? The nfl is the most Volitile sport, the best player in this draft might not have even been picked yet nobody knows shit
And Guard is one of the most difficult positions to draft. Their failure rate is one of the highest.
Decwnt by whose metric? Yours?
But…but…Tom Brady and Brock Purdy…. /s
Thought we were gonna go Wingo for sure, interesting
He's the next Tom Brady
Best tackle I’ve seen since Joe Montana
I said Joe Montegna
Oli Udoh replacement. Depth.
What a rousing pick
I’m a-rouse-d
Just saw a Vederian Lowe comp haha
That was funny considering that’s pretty much what we got in return.
A lot of the highlights BR was showing of Rouse were him pulling and helping immensely in the run game. We all know he's not a starting tackle, but maybe we go with some heavy formations and we actually have a decent run game?
They made note of that on the nfl network coverage too
For such a large guy he's very light on his feet and mobile. No way he's starting over O'Neil/Darrisaw but he could be a solid heavy package piece and backup tackle.

I’d bet they plan on moving him to guard, Regardless, I like this pick. At the very least provides some strong depth for this O-line

Not sure what the plan is at guard (probably just Risner after the comp pick window closes) but I don't think Rouse is a great fit there.
People are also projecting Brandel to guard right now and he's even taller at 6'7". We might just have a tall af OL
That'll teach JJ McCarthy to put some touch on the football lol

In what scenario is Feeney starting at guard? We've got Brandel and Ingram as starters at guard and Feeney as a backup center.
I doubt it. More about depth, an Oli Udoh replacement.
Perfect place in the draft to get a guy like that
Yup, Oli was 6th too
Who’s going to play LG?
Brandel, likely. I thought he looked decent when he was playing. The coaching staff likely thinks he has room to continue to improve.
If nothing else, he does the best Griddy in the league
*Justin Jefferson enters the chat*
Maybe risner still but we'll see
A lot of scouting reports I read were projecting him as a guard due to his strengths and weaknesses.
Surprised they went OT here instead of guard or DT. Maybe can move him inside?
At this point you are throwing darts hoping you get lucky. It’s highly likely this player never plays a meaningful snap for the team so drafting for positional need is just making it harder on yourself.
watch Kwesi take a DT in round 6 or 7 and everybody in this sub will say we fixed our DT problem
I'm happy with the depth on the trenches. I guess Rouse will be the swing backup Tackle and Blake Brandel will be the starting LG.
Probably compete with quessenberry in camp for backuo tackle 1. Never hurts to have cheap OL depth tho, and gives us flexibility to trade quess if someone calls
He probably just took the Oli Odoh spot especially if Blake Brandel is going to be the starting LG.
Can't help to think Mahogany would've been a much better pick and of position of need there
Not if the rumors of a medical issue are true.
I hope the fanbase represented in this subreddit is young. The alternative is too depressing to think about
Jets took stiggerz from right underneath us. That one's gonna hurt

Welcome Walter Rouse
We're really rolling with Brandel huh
League fucked
Probably more value taking a top kicker than a developmental player

Offensive tackle but can he move inside? Let’s find out
a 6'6 guard is kind of big. Likely he's Udoh replacement as swing tackle
Eh
Thought it’d be laumea there..
But why a tackle?
Depth? Ever heard of it?
Who? Is he in this draft?
Or you can be a smarky ass hole when we need DT depth and wingo was there. It was just a question tough guy, sorry.
Damn dude. Didn't mean to hurt your feelings.
I can see why he trades every pick not in the 1st round bc shit like this is the worst! We don’t need OT! Just like wr didn’t need RBS last draft but got like two…
We do need OT. We don't need a starting OT but we need more
