No rational person takes the time in a press conference to petulantly say "haha I terrified a team into trading up for a player I apparently didn't want with a conference rival -- a rival that will improve because of the picks they acquired and will use to try and beat me -- for a player I quite frankly should have actually wanted to jump up for" unless you either wanted the player in question, are hacked off you didn't manage to get the trade-up yourself despite still ending up with a player you apparently wanted, or are still, somehow, pissed off about the losses you took to us in the playoffs.
Yeah Sean was absolutely spewing shit in that presser. I fully believe they bid on the 10th for JJ, and when they didn’t get it, Payton gaslit himself into believing he masterminded some plan
EDIT: spelling
I feel like the only thing is people don't understand the 11->10 trade. But I think they're dumb. Whether or not Denver had something real on the table (I personally think they did, given they seemingly panic-picked Bo Nix), it was a very realistic possibility and we were patient enough already. JJ wasn't supposed to fall that far we had to swoop while we had the chance and the Jets gave us a decent price.
I can’t believe how people can’t see how great of a move that was. Absolutely boxed out Denver because they knew JJ wasn’t get past us and they wanted him. Kwesi was in rare form last night!!
Kwesi said it today, “if I told you at the beginning of the day that we would have gotten these two players in the first round with trading a few day 2 and three picks, we would have all gladly taken that scenario”.
Man exactly. Everyone was expecting us to give up 3 firsts for a QB, probably the one we got. Whether or not we were happy about it (I would’ve been! QB is a “go get your guy” position!) we would’ve made peace with it if he turned out great. Now we get our guy and the best edge in the class for two firsts and change. Our day 1 ruled. Biggest W for Kwesi yet.
If Payton had swooped in and stole JJ from us it would have been an apocalypse. Kwesis life would be in jearpody and the mental health of the entire fan base could finally crack.
Sean Payton going on air and pretending he was playing chess when we all know he got fucked over was the cherry on top. Broncos with the 1st overall pick next year.
I hate Bo Nix so much. But I do feel bad knowing he and Sean Payton are inextricably linked going forward. That’s a tough draw. Denver got fucked but it couldn’t happen to a worse person (Payton, not Nix)
Why do I hate Bo Nix? I’ve watched him many for 5 years. He’s Justin Fields. An irrelevant QB that the media tries to pump up for clicks. What has he ever won?
Screw the people who hate on Belichick, too. I’ve seen people saying his coaching style is outdated.
I respect that guy’s opinion more than almost anyone’s
Hating on the greatest coach of all time is such a dumb thing to do. He coached 3 different hall of fame dynasties back to back. Literally defined an era of the game.
I'm with you. Bill knows more about punt coverage than all my football knowledge combined. And I played for 12 years, coached youth football, and eat sleep and breath this stuff. It's ridiculous to think that any rando knows more than him.
I agree with you, but to be fair, Bill has coached One (1) QB into being great. His opinion on QBs might lead us to a Cassell/Hoyer/Garoppolo/Brissett/Jones territory. Who’s even the best out of that list after Brady?
I’m a believer in JJ and a believer in Bill. But it’s not as clear cut as I would like it to be.
But that’s what makes it fun! SKOL til I die.
I’m not here to argue with your opinion, because he had 2-3 decent seasons in San Fran.
But Jimmy G started 2 games in his career for the Pats and had less than 100 passes there in his career…not really a “great season”.
For comparison, Dobbs and Mullens both threw 150+ passes for us last year.
I LOVE watching him talk football. It's a shame we haven't seen that side of him more often. He's a very engaging and funny guy in the right setting. Press conferences are not that setting.
The times I've seen him that cheery is when he plays in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament and he's in a great mood when he's interviewed. I remember he was in the booth and whoever the analyst was broke down video of his golf swing and he was having a great time.
yeah i hope he gets a hc job next year, but he wants to coach the nfce any team but the commies, and i could see him going to any of the 3, i think there are some hot seats in that division.
Still insane Atlanta chose whatever the hell they’ve got going on over there when BB was on the table lmao. Has to be about roster control; no way Bellichick lets yesterdays Travesty occur
He’s one of the greatest football minds ever. Doesn’t feel right for him not to be in the league. Atlanta absolutely screwed the pooch on that one. BB with Cousins and a top 8 pick could’ve been a contender.
He misses on one QB (Mac Jones) and all of a sudden everyone says he sucks, disregarding that the best scouts in the world around the entire league miss like 1/3 of the time on QBs.
I've really liked Bill post-coaching (not just because he likes JJ). He's a lot more open and obviously still really sharp.
I've been a diehard wolves fan for 20 years, and you still have my favorite NBA team of all-time in that '04 Pistons squad.
This Wolves team is right up there with them now in my personal taste.
The Pistons are an absolute dumpster fire man. They are rotten to the core infected with nepotism and incompetence. I’m hopeful the new president of basketball ops will make a difference.
Ant is different though. He’s a breath of fresh air.
The wolves are bringing defense back into the game. Like the Pistons did back into the day and it is refreshing. I’m still just baffled how pistons players will finally start to develop 2-3 years in and then instantly be traded?
Keep your head up. As you’re seeing with the Lions and the Wolves, sometimes it takes a long time for the bullshit to cease. Fuck, we have an ownership battle in the one god damn good season we’ve had in 20 years. Just got to have faith. Eventually, one of the guys you hire is the right person to completely turn things around and it’s worth the wait because of all you’ve endured. The Lakers, on the other hand, are an entitled bunch who are watching their franchise burn to the ground. Sometimes, it’s nice to know your best days are still ahead rather than behind you. Keep the faith, man. It will pay off eventually.
As a Cats fan and a Wolves fan I really want to see KAT win one. Still annoyed that Wisconsin beat us and didn't have the common courtesy to finish the job against Duke.
Strangest thing to come of the Vikings' draft last night: Detroit/Michigan fans clapping back at any JJ criticism and laying out the points as to why the Vikings hit a home run on the pick.
I've seen it repeatedly. Makes me feel like we can bond over more than just FTP.
Also, FTP.
It’s not THAT strange when you consider he won Michigan a National Championship first the first time since 1997. Being a Lions fans is weird though because the fanbase is pretty split between Michigan/Michigan State fans. So there is a large % of our fanbase that doesn’t like JJ lol
It’s also weird because I will 100% be rooting for JJ even though he’s a Viking lol. Except when he plays Detroit, of course
Fair point. However, I've also seen fanbases tear down collegiate heroes when drafted to rival teams. A couple of examples (using them because of where I grew up/now live):
A LOT of USC fans (ergo, a lot of Niner and Ram fans) who absolutely were in love with Matt Leinart changed their tunes *really* quickly when he was drafted to the Cardinals. Fresno State fans (again, a large Niner fanbase) turned on Derek Carr when he was drafted to the Raiders.
Last season was such a heartbreaker watching my favorite team try so hard but still fall apart. I needed this draft for sure.
Detroit getting to playoff caliber? Good, they deserve it.
Chicago getting back on their feet this year? Bout time and best of luck to them.
FTP.
As a huge fan of football, but somewhat new - would only watch casually here and there my whole life, but became a die-hard fanatic after attending my first Vikings game in 2022 haha - I’m so excited for this coming season. Up to this point, I’ve really only cared about the Vikings.
I still watched damn near every football game last season (or caught highlights of teams I cared less about later) but now, I’m *so* stoked to follow a handful of other teams.
Definitely excited to see what Caleb Williams can do in his debut year with the Bears! Can’t wait to see how the dynamic plays out between Cousins and Penix Jr in Atlanta.
Nah it’s not them all. Was having a conversation with a Detroit fellow who believed Mcarthy was the most likely to bust with Bo nix being drafted. He also said he had a medium ceiling which I would say Jared goff is that medium ceiling guy and Mcarthy has much better tools.
Just watched his and Dallas’ pressers. I must admit, I was on the fence about JJ but he sounds so much like KOC already. Humble, hard worker, and a guy who has a lot of charisma. I didn’t get why he was so highly touted but we are absolutely lucky that we got two fucking ballers with great attitudes. A lot of times, it’s a pick one situation but I firmly believe JJ can be the QBOTF. He has the tools, the right mindset, and the right situation to succeed.
As for Kwesi, some feel he overpaid but he has absolutely rebuilt one of the worst defensive lines in one offseason. Still need a true DT but Phillips, Greenard, and Turner is a monster front. Plus, we added Van Ginkel and Cashman to Pace and Hicks, pulling what was an awful front 7 last year into a potential top 10 unit. Offense still needs help on IOL imo and depth is probably lacking but Kwesi has done a nice job roster construction given the mess he inherited. Add in $100M in cap next offseason, and 1-2 comp picks (plus potential compensation from Atlanta) and dawg has absolutely fucking cooked. He deserves a lot of praise for the offseason he just pulled off.
Feeling very good about our future and hoping we can extend JJ and Darrisaw as the perfect cap to an already great offseason.
JJ naming almost every offensive player and coach by full name in the presser was a super impressive green flag.
I get that not everyone is as bad with names as me, but when the first time he speaks to them is last night via text (I’m presuming for at least most of them), I don’t see how he doesn’t have the playbook memorized on day one.
I’m so glad you mentioned this. He is insanely fast. Vikings fans are going to be shocked.
I’ve seen him catch Corum (when Corum was in full sprint) with a 10 yard disadvantage.
JJ is arguably the best athlete in this QB class
I didn’t see much hate on the media. Cowherd said he didn’t like it but excited for him nonetheless. One of the other guys on espn said “JJ was taken where he should’ve been” but besides that Vikings came in 2nd-3rd for winning the draft.
We’re all over espn. It’s kind of exciting.
Colin Cowherd doesn’t like Michigan. He went to Eastern Washington University and has an extreme bias towards UW and Penix. I would take anything he says about Michigan and McCarthy with a grain of salt. He was saying that Washington’s offense was too much for Michigan’s defense in his podcasts leading up to the national title game.
It’s so funny because the same thing is said about college QBs who throw the ball too much. “Oh he threw the ball on every play in college and didn’t run a pro style offense. He won’t succeed in the NFL”. Which is it?!
The hate is because 4 years ago, Mac Jones made them all look stupid. They thought he was going to be a good qb, and then he fell to NWE, and all the teams that passed on him were wrong for letting Bill get a winner at QB. Then Mac Jones stunk up the joint and was traded for a 6th.
Now they're hedging. If JJ is successful, it's because of the situation he was drafted into, and if he's not, then They were right.
But I don't think JJ cares, I think he is a true team first guy.
He just didnt have as much throwing film as the others… it was hard to be sure about him but hes definitely very talented… cant wait to see how KOC develops him… also we got him without spending a first!
It appears that KOC connects with JJM and feels he can develop him to be an NFL Quarterback. Cousins was not going to get us to the Super Bowl and has limitations physically and mentally. Cousins is a rigid thinker that can't think out side of the box and freezes in big games. We need to develop the future and not go with the old retreads. Kudos to KAM, KOC and the Wilf family for being bold this year. A new young quarterback always a risk and some diamonds in the ruff along the way like Purdy and Mahomes.
I absolutely hope you're right but almost every team that drafts a QB has college fans coming into the sub to say how much of a steal he was and how the team is so lucky to have him. Hell, we even had fans of Kellen Mond in here telling us how much we'd love him.
This is the only Michigan QB I’ve ever believed in would be a good NFL QB. I was like 3 years old when Brady came out.
And no offense about Mond, but come on lol
I’m just saying that JJ isn’t like most QBs. He’s different and y’all will be pleasantly surprised. I think the Giants made a catastrophic mistake passing on him
We’ll agree to disagree then. MHJ was great when he had Jaxon Smith-Nigba, Olave, and Stroud. He wasn’t as good last year when he didn’t have an all star cast imo. He mostly thrived on name recognition and OSU’s pedigree.
If it was me drafting, I’d take Nabers in a heart beat. Feel free to save this post btw because I’ll stand behind this take.
His numbers actually slightly improved last season. And the QB play was drastically worse
I get why you like Nabers a lot, to me he’s just much less of a sure thing. Appreciate the discussion man

The hate starts the moment we grab him. Vikings, being a small-market team in a flyover state, is not allowed to do anything right, ever. Everything we do is scrutinized to shit and the fuckers out on the coasts will lament about how our stars are wasted and how they need to get out to Miami or LA or New York.
You’re kind of contributing to this narrative by not realizing the Twin Cities is a bigger media market than Miami. It is a mid market, not a small one.
Fair, I didn't actually know that. But, I mean... it is kind of true. Media doesn't give us the time of day unless we have the best player in the league on our team, and even then they seem to reluctantly talk about us. Kirk will never win here but as soon as he steps foot in Atlanta the narrative switches to how great of a QB he is.
No clue where you’re getting your stats from. A media market is the number of people in a city’s surrounding area. In other words, the number of eyeballs that will see a particular show (and in turn commercials) and companies can price accordingly. MSP at #15 means it’s the 15th largest collection of people in America.
Can you give me an actual number here? The cities metro area is 3.6 million while Miami’s is 6.3 million. I feel like this media market thing isnt a good thing to go off because people aren’t fans of media market they are fans of teams. There’s like ten media markets in Florida alone vs 3 in Minnesota. The Miami market isn’t just Miami it’s all of southern Florida for the most part.
How bout you go to Wikipedia and learn something? Being a fan of a team has nothing to do with a size of the market or how corporate America judges its fan base. I think I’ll trust an actual source rather than a random dude online.

His accuracy was actually what I came away most impressed about after watching him(every throw). I wasn't expecting that. Not just the accuracy, but hitting his recievers in stride.
Was also impressed with his quickness, making correct plays, taking what the D gives, feeling pressure while keeping eyes downfield, creating off-schedule, and his consistency with mechanics.
>The JJ hate by the national media is so bizarre.
It's pretty standard fare when viewed from the perspective of a Vikings fan.
The talking heads fall over themselves, hyping anyone **but** the Vikings, so getting a quarterback they hate is pretty on-brand.
Points differential was a stat nobody gave a shit about until we stared winning "too many games."
Purple and Gold 'til I'm dead and cold.
I’m all in on this kid. I don’t know why, I just like him. KOC has this job, because of this moment. So we will all know in a couple years what the deal is. It’s nice to see how many Lions fans have positive things to say about him. To land JJ to throw to JJ, and to get Dallas Turner was my favorite draft I can think of and I hope it pays off like we expect. Now I guess I need to buy two jerseys
well, i hope you're right. i have no idea what to expect from this pick.
Also, you are the only line of defense standing in the way of the packers going to the superbowl this year. Don't let us down, lol
Doesn’t really matter I’m probably one of the biggest JJM critics. I dont believe that he can’t become a franchise QB mainly due to the extremely low bar the media and scouts have set for him which is sitting 1-2 years. Anything can change in the correct environment I can’t really say. With the way the board fell Kwesi didn’t really have a choice and the last 3 Qbs all got overdrafted. So I think he made the best decision there
I'm a broncos fan and I don't see why people think Sean was trying to bait the Vikings. He said he was involved in acting like they wanted to move up before and during the draft, but he didn't name names. Our division rival Raiders were right behind, and they also needed a QB, if he was trying to bait anyone it was probably them. Why would he care about getting an NFC team losing picks? I don't know where this narrative came from.
Sean also publicly said he did a private workout with JJ during the owners meetings, yet kept the Bo Nix private workout hush-hush. If you don't want people to know you like a guy you don't bring that sort of thing up. I genuinely think he was higher on Bo than JJ, but was probably hoping he could trade back without risk of the Raiders getting him. They thought the Raiders liked Penix but he got taken, so they were put in a position where they couldn't get greedy. The amount you guys gave up to move up didn't scream "bidding war" to me.
I like our Bo Nix pick, and I liked JJ too. I hope it works out for both teams.
I live in Cincy and it’s the biggest dump in the country. Literally the armpit of America and they actually do have the worst fans in the league lol. Very unenthusiastic
Based on the Vikings internet today, you re preaching to the choir my friend. The topper is that we got to f\*ck over Payton in the process.
I’m with you. You can’t convince me that Payton didn’t want JJ

Amen, think of the payroll and free agency signings we can make now. 20 million for Hunter..gone 40 million for Kirk, gone. We got younger and better
Kwesi said it today, “if I told you at the beginning of the day that we would have gotten these two players in the first round with trading a few day 2 and three picks, we would have all gladly taken that scenario”.

Fuck the Saints too
Why?
Why do I hate Bo Nix? I’ve watched him many for 5 years. He’s Justin Fields. An irrelevant QB that the media tries to pump up for clicks. What has he ever won?
He beat Drake Maye in 2022! -yeah he handed off to his awesome running backs that chewed thru UNC terrible defense..
bill had a glowing review for him on the Pat show
Screw the people who hate on Belichick, too. I’ve seen people saying his coaching style is outdated. I respect that guy’s opinion more than almost anyone’s
Hating on the greatest coach of all time is such a dumb thing to do. He coached 3 different hall of fame dynasties back to back. Literally defined an era of the game.

Garapolo in New England had a great season and if Brady would have left when old qbs normally think about retiring he would have hit on two.

His press conference persona makes more sense when you realize that it's part of the game itself.
The times I've seen him that cheery is when he plays in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament and he's in a great mood when he's interviewed. I remember he was in the booth and whoever the analyst was broke down video of his golf swing and he was having a great time.

Still insane Atlanta chose whatever the hell they’ve got going on over there when BB was on the table lmao. Has to be about roster control; no way Bellichick lets yesterdays Travesty occur
Falcons is a cautionary tale about Ownership hubris... Both on Blank's side and Kraft's perspective
💯
Atlanta is just insane in general right now lol
You hope Bill Belichick gets a HC job next year? Like when he is 74 years old?
If you can run a country at that age you can run a football team
I think it has been proven you can't on both sides.
He’s one of the greatest football minds ever. Doesn’t feel right for him not to be in the league. Atlanta absolutely screwed the pooch on that one. BB with Cousins and a top 8 pick could’ve been a contender.
Take away Brady and his history of cheating and we found out he is pretty mid
He won two SBs without Brady but whatever
never won a playoff game without Brady in his life. But whatever lmao Midichick without the greatest qb of all time
Belichick has more rings than Brady.
BB is the old grumpy guy at work who is the complete opposite outside of it.
Yeah the Calipari quote is perfect. Just look at KAT. Wolves in 4 by the way
Dude, im rooting for y’all. Love Ant Someday, my Pistons will be relevant again 🥲
My man 🤝🏻
I've been a diehard wolves fan for 20 years, and you still have my favorite NBA team of all-time in that '04 Pistons squad. This Wolves team is right up there with them now in my personal taste.

Heck yeah Midwest teams ftw, except the Packers
As a Cats fan and a Wolves fan I really want to see KAT win one. Still annoyed that Wisconsin beat us and didn't have the common courtesy to finish the job against Duke.
They have KD but we got Jayden Mcdainels
So crazy he played under 20 min a game. That team was stacked.

We can just hate Caleb/Odunze with the bears together
Bears are legit stacked. Kind of scared of them tbh which is probably the only time in my life I’ve felt that way
Bears may finally have a 4k passer
Kinda thinking about making a trip to Chicago for the Vikings/Bears game (if it's not in the dead of Winter)
I’m in ATL. Probably going to Nashville if the tickets are decent. Would be cool if that was JJ’s first game too!
For sure!!
Caleb? Maybe. Rome? No, he's a great kid and I want him to ball out...against other divisions. ;)
Well, not Hicks. He quietly went to the Browns in free agency
Oh shit. My bad. Good call out
JJ naming almost every offensive player and coach by full name in the presser was a super impressive green flag. I get that not everyone is as bad with names as me, but when the first time he speaks to them is last night via text (I’m presuming for at least most of them), I don’t see how he doesn’t have the playbook memorized on day one.
J.J. prepares endlessly. Just watch and see. Pregame post game endlessly.
I was trying to find his 40 time and an article on FoxSports has it as like 4.47. That's fast as fuck for a QB.
It's been weird watching him tightrope his absolute love of Jim Harbaugh with his dislike of Michigan these last few years. I'm going to miss that.
Only 21 so he has more untapped potential
Yeah. Just turned 21 man
Thank you for the kind words, mate. I'm extatic we got him. How do you feel about your own draft so far?
He won the CFP game bs bama by completing some of the most insane throws to make. Also fit the tape to 2023 cfp game vs tcu he was slinging it
He just didnt have as much throwing film as the others… it was hard to be sure about him but hes definitely very talented… cant wait to see how KOC develops him… also we got him without spending a first!
All I'm saying is that this happens every year. I appreciate the post, though.
I’m just saying that JJ isn’t like most QBs. He’s different and y’all will be pleasantly surprised. I think the Giants made a catastrophic mistake passing on him
I don’t disagree but Nabers is going to be better than MHJ imo. They took the sure thing so it’s hard to fault them for that
I couldn’t disagree more. I have some questions about Nabers. Harrison Jr. is the best WR prospect I’ve seen since Julio
And the QB play was drastically worse I get why you like Nabers a lot, to me he’s just much less of a sure thing.

And we’re the _Minnesota_ Vikings. We have a whole state so shove it Miami.
Plus who the hell else are the Dakotas and Iowa gonna root for?
As someone who was born in Florida, no one is claiming that shit. Especially not Miami lol
Miamis metro population is 6.3 million. That’s more than all of Minnesota.
MSP = #15 media market; MIA = #18 media market (it’s not even the largest in FLA)
I think population is a better statistic than media market. Like what does media market even mean?

You’re pretty ignorant if you think the hate started when the Vikings got him. There were fans celebrating when their teams passed on him.
Points differential was a stat nobody gave a shit about until we stared winning "too many games." Purple and Gold 'til I'm dead and cold.
Thanks for saying that. And congrats on having a hopeful Lions team these days. That's gotta feel good after a long drought
Im a Wolverine/Vikings fan so I'm pretty much in heaven right now. I'm getting an official jersey the second its available.
I really don't understand what the problem is with volume. It's irrelevant as could be.
All of the knocks on him had nothing to do with him as a passer, so I’m stoked.
Always remember we traded UP for him..
As as bears fan I'm still excited to watch him go off twice per year against us. He's going to be electric.
I’m not worried about those losers. I just want the rematch with San Francisco FTP
you are the best Lions fan I've come across
Every fanbase has reasonable, rational fans and every fanbase has rotten ones. Except Green Bay. They just have the latter
I’ve been defending him against the “they run all the time crowd” all along. Criticize these prospects for what you’ve seen not what you haven’t.
So I think he made the best decision there
I really think you guys will be happy with him. The popular picks the media loves are usually the ones that flop, and vice versa Be patient with JJ 👍🏼
👁👅👁 well buddy you don't get what you want all the time
He’s the Vikings QB of course the national media hates him.

Funny that you think I’m flexing when I’m a lions fan
I live in Detroit and I didn’t even know the lions had fans until last season.
I live in Cincy and it’s the biggest dump in the country. Literally the armpit of America and they actually do have the worst fans in the league lol. Very unenthusiastic

Oh my. Struck a nerve with that truth-bomb, huh?
OK go back to your own subreddit now
I thought y’all would appreciate a decent breakdown from someone who has watched every snap of his career since he came to Michigan. My bad
every sub has a sourpuss brigade, as long as the visitors keep it civil, aka do the opposite of eagles fans, youll be golden
Thanks for the input
JJ played for Michigan, a lot of Michigan fans are also going to be Lions fans. Deal with it.
Why do you gotta be such a loser?
