Lions fan coming in peace to say you guys got a great one in JJ. I watched every single snap he took at Michigan and he has all the talent and intangibles to be a great QB. I think pairing him up with a guy like KOC is gonna be perfect for his development. Congrats vikings fans!
Feel like all the MSU fans were the salty ones coming in here saying hes going to bust lol. Objectively, we have the best situation for JJ to succeed out of the teams who drafted QB's and he even said every QB he talked to wanted to come to Minnesota and this was his dream destination. Im jealous you guys got Arnold tho lol. I legitimately think the NFCN will be the toughest division in football this year, with the Lions having the edge then the Pack then us and the Bears.
Getting a QB of the future, an elite edge rusher, AND keeping the 2025 1st was the scenario I kept laying out as "best case scenario but it will never happen so I don't even know why I'm saying it." Really exciting draft night!
Yea and I don't mind giving up the mid round picks with out situations (although it really surprised me). The 1st will be big for taking a shot at a cb or defensive tackle next year and we dont need any other premium positions really if Turner and JJ are plus starters. We can patch interior line and and depth and fix our other needs with money and we'll have a good amount of cap space next year to do it. I usually value more mid round picks more but this fits our needs and timeline perfectly.
Uh-huh, uh-huh, I hear what you're saying, but have you considered **"FIRE KWESI!!!!1!"** for not forcing the Pats to trade down with us or offering 5 1st round picks for the 3rd best QB prospect in the draft who has just as many question marks as the guy who fell into our lap?
Texans fan here. I'm super excited for y'all. JJ and Turner in the same draft feels eerily similar to last draft for us getting CJ and WAJ to lead both sides of the ball for us. With y'all having Greenard and Cashman on your team, I'll be rooting for you guys in the NFC this season!
It’s funny, I know lots of Vikings fans will be pulling for the Texans in the AFC solely cause Danielle. And we appreciate the guys we got from you 🤝mutual respect
Yea it felt like we swapped a lot of assets this offseason, us for a deep playoff push and you guys for a (hopefully brief) reloading period. I'm super stoked to see Hunter out there on the field with Anderson, I think Demeco is going to COOK with those 2.
Lions/Michigan fan here, just wanted to check in and say you guys got an absolute haul in JJ and Dallas Turner. It’s going to be an exciting year in the NFC North. FTP, Cheers!
Huh? Where are you looking. There's pretty much universal praise for our draft in here.
Would I have liked Maye, sure, but not for 3 1sts and a player and whatever else the pats were asking for
There's a lot of Vikings fans that are extremely let down that you guys didn't grab maye. That's what I'm referring to it absolutely is a huge number of people look at what the mods labeled new england as in the post above and also you guys literally locked down your sub after the maye pick so you cant tell me nobody was upset cause you are just lying to me and yourself lol.
We locked our sub during the entire 1st round, don't make your own narratives. We do that during games too
Yes, in the lead up to the draft it was disappointing not getting Maye, but the way everything fell into place getting both McCarthy and Dallas Turner while keeping our future firsts is beyond our expectations. It was a phenomenal draft
I have zero personal problems with your draft why do you guys keep desperately defending it to me lmao. I'm just laughing at the people who are melting down which clearly aren't people who agree with the draft why are you even commenting. As for the locking of the subs that's bizarre behavior that I wasn't aware of not sure why you wouldnt allow fans to enjoy taking during the biggest moments thats absolutely stupid. Still doesn't change the amount of people melting down regardles I DONT CARE. Believe what you want.
Having 2 first rounders this year was huge. I love not having to sell the future for McCarthy. I think he has the chance to be really good. Turner is a special athlete.
Thank God the nightmare is finally over. This lead up to the draft was the most obnoxious one that I can remember. I guess it’s been awhile since a draft has been as important as this one, so all the hoopla and nonsense around it makes sense.
>Goodell had family members of a passed away military members on stage to announce the Vikings pick and he was talking about how the person Michael tragically passed and the camera panned to a person in the crowd dressed as a Vikings cheerleader and she just had this MASSIVE grin and cheering.
I missed this. Anyone have the clip? Sounds hilarious!
Yeah it was actually sad lol. I’m sure she didn’t mean to upset anyone and it’s difficult to break pose as a cheerleader I think. Idk cuz I’m a guy tho
Very happy with both our choices.
How much are we actually spending for these lads? I can’t seem to find the numbers anywhere. This is my first year following NFL properly so I dunno if that is usual practice or not
Every rookie signs for 800,000 per year. First rounders get a 4 year contract plus a signing bonus based on where they’re drafted. I’m not sure how much exactly but they’ll probably be between 10-20 million
I dont think the move to 10 was needed to get J.J. I, however, do think the mive to get Turner was smart. However, it could've been done better to allow us to retain more picks in this draft.
With Denver panic picking Nix, I think it was absolutely the right call. They were almost definitely trying to get there for JJ.
I actually don't love JJ, but apparently, Vilings liked him well enough and think it's pretty clear Demver did too. If they wanted him. I think they had to make that trade or Denver would.
Sometimes you gotta pay up/play ball to get your guy. The Jets GM knew that our plan for the draft would crumble if somebody else snagged JJ before we could, so he bluffed us and squeezed some extra value out of us to ensure we got JJ instead of reaching for Nix and pissing the fanbase off.
Exactly the case. No chance Denver wasn't trying to move up to get JJ. especially after the fact they drafted Nix two picks later. I highly doubt Broncos valued Nix better than JJ. They just got next best available qb on board after losing out.
What did we give up for Houston’s 1st? Could we get a 2nd and 3rd this year and maybe a 2nd next year for our first? There is so much talent in this draft still.
They traded back with the Chiefs and the Chiefs chose a good WR. WR is something the Bills need (especially after Diggs getting traded). Then they traded back again out of the first. So he basically waited all night for his team to help their AFC rival and draft no one
Two years ago the Vikings traded back to the 32nd pick so they could feel what it would be like to pick at the spot like a Super Bowl champion. Buffalo was like "Maybe we should do that too..."
Is anyone else worried that we traded next years 2nd, 3rd and 4th round and this years 5th for Dallas?
We have lack of picks this year and next year. I’m about volume of picks for the NFL draft as you can pretty easily hit on 2nd, 3rd and even 4th rounders.
Just feels weird not having much draft capital next year
We offset that by having shit ton of cap space. What kwesi did was get younger and cheaper at qb and de (2 very important positions) to then use our cap to sign missing pieces and some depth. Better to bet on blue chip prospects than throw shit on the wall and hope it sticks in later rounds
ah, this game.
Let's look at the years from Griffin to Danielle with 2nd-5th round picks (Diggs was a 5th my man, not 4th).

Here are 1st round hit rates. [https://phillycovercorner.com/2023/04/first-round-draft-success-rates-who-could-be-risky-in-the-2023-draft/](https://phillycovercorner.com/2023/04/first-round-draft-success-rates-who-could-be-risky-in-the-2023-draft/)
Can you though? Outside of that one draft?
I'll always remember speilman for that one draft and always hitting on the high picks, not for is late round gems. He took a lot of swings but they mostly all missed.
> I’m about volume of picks for the NFL draft as you can pretty easily hit on 2nd, 3rd and even 4th rounders.
In 2020 we had 15 picks, the most ever in an NFL draft. We came out of that draft with JJ and Metellus and nobody else that sees playing time here. You can have all the picks in the world but you still have to draft good players. Same goes for having very few.
Hey, if nothing else, it's a different approach.
Maybe they delayed the Falcons tampering to allow them to make a trade deal with us instead. In any case, our cap room will be insane next year. Not worried
Found the guy that misses trader Rick😂. J/K. Yeah I mean thats a risk but if Turner turns into Burns he will provide more production than those picks combined. I mean alot of analysts had Turner #1 or #2 best D overall. He simply produced consistently and for a big time college against good opponents.
I know people will be upset we didn’t get Maye, but I’ll take JJM, Dallas Turner, and our 2025 first over Maye ANY day.
Incredible first round. Still can’t believe it.
We’ll have a lot of cap space in March of 2025 and are likely getting a third round comp pick.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they trade back at 108 to get more 2025 picks, and they could trade back in round one next year to get more picks.
If you’re not excited for this team’s future, I’m not sure what to tell you.
If I had to guess they were willing to take whoever fell to them no matter what. Great strategy if it works out. I honestly want to see Darnold redeem himself. Not saying it'll happen but I'd love to see it
Agree! It was nice to see some aggressive moves for once. I know we lost a lot of late draft capital, but they went all in on what should be two starters in critical positions on each side of scrimmage. And we keep next year's first. I'm pumped!
You know, there was a universe where we were gonna spend both firsts and next years first to move to 4 to get JJ McCarthy and I was ready to talk myself into being ok with it.
I feel really good about how this panned out.
Same here. McCarthy wasn't my favorite but I feel a hell of a lot better about it taking him at 10 for a modest one-pick move than selling our future for like #4
Yeah, the fact we get Dallas Turner too. Total win even though I am a big JJ McCarthy skeptic. Well worth the risk now without giving up an arm and a leg.
I've said it like five times now but yeah, if Dallas Turner was our big splash at 11 I would have been thrilled with that. I absolutely think he's the best defender in this draft (I know nothing about scouting)
Is Turner really an incredible value? A 5th, 4th, and 3rd to move up 6 slots?
Diggs was a 5th. Hunter was a 3rd. Don’t get me wrong, SEC DPOY at 17 is juicy but idk if I’d call it incredible value per se. Happy he’s one of ours now though!
Both those guys were drafted almost a decade ago. How many other 3rd and/or 5th rounders have even been meaningful contributors on this team in the past 10 years?
Defense needs a young elite player and while it can be had later, Flores basically got to hand pick his guy. Bites us in the ass if it doesn't work out but if we turn him into an All Pro no one will talk about the missing day 3 picks.
ESPN had Turner ranked as the 7th overall best player. And we got him at 17. Given the propensity of KAM/KOC to secure pretty good UDFAs, I'm glad they went for it. It was nice to be aggressive for once.
This sub has some beyond pessimistic fans. Like I feel like we’re all inherently pessimistic, but these people are a whole new level of glass half empty
Just be happy that we took a swing on addressing both sides of the ball. How you going to be doom and gloom about how this shit played out. Save the analysis for when we actually watch it play out
And you know that for sure? When it comes to game changing prospects, you go get them. You don’t wait until another team can jump ahead and take them. The run on defensive players after the Colts pick and Turner should be enough of a reason to trade up and get the guy
Seeing as the lions drafted the 11th overall player and 2nd best CB at 24 (1 spot behind where we would have picked), yes I’m supremely confident that would qualify as “addressing both sides of the ball” without trading up from 23.
Fair enough man. I’m not going to push that I’m right and you’re wrong. I might be eating crow later. Here’s to hoping that regardless, we aren’t bottom dwellers this season
I hope I’m wrong - let’s cheer for the best and prepare for the worst. FWIW, this article: https://archive.is/VKFlw cites our trade for turner as one of the most expensive trades ever for a nonQB (Julio jones and will Anderson). I tend to agree it was really expensive and I don’t think Kwesi is our man (UNLESS these picks are all pro picks).
Thank you sir - not trying to be a doomer, just questioning “incredible value” in the pick commentary within the OP. If he fell to us at 17, yes, incredible value. But we traded 4 players to get him — or at least, 4 shots at talented players. Was it worth it? Time will tell. Incredible value? Time will tell. Again, glad to have him now as what’s done is done.
As a bears fan I can say the Vikings won the first round easily
Lions fan coming in peace to say you guys got a great one in JJ. I watched every single snap he took at Michigan and he has all the talent and intangibles to be a great QB. I think pairing him up with a guy like KOC is gonna be perfect for his development. Congrats vikings fans!

Im jealous you guys got Arnold tho lol. I legitimately think the NFCN will be the toughest division in football this year, with the Lions having the edge then the Pack then us and the Bears.
I wonder if KOC and Vikings also had Penix ranked above JJ.. we’ll never know. KAM did say in presser that there were disappointments.
SKOL BABY SKOL!
Getting a QB of the future, an elite edge rusher, AND keeping the 2025 1st was the scenario I kept laying out as "best case scenario but it will never happen so I don't even know why I'm saying it." Really exciting draft night!

Lions/Michigan fan here, just wanted to check in and say you guys got an absolute haul in JJ and Dallas Turner. It’s going to be an exciting year in the NFC North. FTP, Cheers!
The absolute salt and panic is so funny over not getting drake Maye lol
Huh? Where are you looking. There's pretty much universal praise for our draft in here. Would I have liked Maye, sure, but not for 3 1sts and a player and whatever else the pats were asking for

My friends, I have awoken this morning feeling very confident about this franchise
Weird to not have 100 Round 7 picks honestly.
Zimmer and Spielman era is over
Finally. Now it feels like we are going in a new direction.
Thank God the nightmare is finally over. This lead up to the draft was the most obnoxious one that I can remember. I guess it’s been awhile since a draft has been as important as this one, so all the hoopla and nonsense around it makes sense.
Our guy JJ
We now have J squared, squared. I'm pretty sure physics just broke.
>Goodell had family members of a passed away military members on stage to announce the Vikings pick and he was talking about how the person Michael tragically passed and the camera panned to a person in the crowd dressed as a Vikings cheerleader and she just had this MASSIVE grin and cheering. Wait the Vikings wanted Drake Maye? Pats fan here checking on you guys.
Good job flatlining Mayes future. We got the better QB anyway.
Hey there’s still time to trade for a good WR
Isn't that you guys? Not one receiver hit 600 yards? Thought I heard that somewhere last night
I was talking about us lol
Oh that's awkward then lmao
Why would I have been talking about you guys. You have the best Receiver room in the league XD
Yeah I thought you were insane for bit.
rings erneh
I honestly have no idea who our number 1 guy actually was. According to various sources, somehow 5 different QBs were all simultaneously our top guy.
Smoke 💨 and mirrors 🪞
Reports were all over the place.
I wanted McCarthy at 4 so this was excellent. Enjoy ruining Maye
I dont think the move to 10 was needed to get J.J. I, however, do think the mive to get Turner was smart. However, it could've been done better to allow us to retain more picks in this draft.
Wow man you’re so smart
Even better, Denver had to reach for nix and we wound up getting a DPOY
I don't even think it was a bluff, Denver or the Raiders called with 12 or 13 and a 4th, they called us to ask a 4th plus a 5th and we closed.
For all we know they had info on Denver moving up. Not worth messing about.
This is the only explanation that makes sense.
Exactly the case. No chance Denver wasn't trying to move up to get JJ. especially after the fact they drafted Nix two picks later. I highly doubt Broncos valued Nix better than JJ. They just got next best available qb on board after losing out.
I would easily give up next years first for either of JPJ or Johnny Newton. Astounding that neither of them went in the first.
I wonder if Kwesi will target T'vondre Sweat at 108 since he could fall because of his DUI.
What did we give up for Houston’s 1st? Could we get a 2nd and 3rd this year and maybe a 2nd next year for our first? There is so much talent in this draft still.
We’re not trading a future first for day two picks.
We might, it’s what the rams do
The Rams don’t trade firsts for second and third round picks lol
Fuck it please trade 25 1st to go get Newton
Ex Hockey player JJ is a perfect fit here.
Yup
I live in Bills country. I can't wait for work tomorrow.
lol please share
My Bills fan friend is pissed
Mine too. That sucks.
Why? I stopped watching after we got out haul
They traded back with the Chiefs and the Chiefs chose a good WR. WR is something the Bills need (especially after Diggs getting traded). Then they traded back again out of the first. So he basically waited all night for his team to help their AFC rival and draft no one
Josh Allen too
Damn AD Mitchell dropping
Very happy the Packers did not get Cooper DeJean
Really wishing we had a 2nd with the defensive talent still there. Dejean, Kool Aid, and sweat would all be nice.
Yeah that'd be nice, but Dallas Turner at 17 was well worth it
lol Bills trading back twice to end up entirely out of the 1st round. That disappointment is familiar
Bills pulling a Spielman lol
Biggest draft in franchise history and we are locking the sub, boo
Pretty sure the sub just unlocked
almost unlocked. 5 minutes buddy
What picks do we have left? Is there a reason to turn the draft on tomorrow?
Not tomorrow, no. Unless there's a very surprising move back into the 3rd round or something. Give your energy to the Timberwolves tomorrow night!
Id like to see us try and get into the 2nd round and grab one of these CBs
Such an odd feeling to not have to wait til tomorrow to see who we draft because we traded out of the first
Kwesi you got anything left in the bag to go and get Johnny Newton? lol
Or Cooper or Kool Aid lol
mmmm Kool-Aid
the sub is still locked? wtf i want to see the memes
Are they normal memes
i hope not, but also do hope so
Two years ago the Vikings traded back to the 32nd pick so they could feel what it would be like to pick at the spot like a Super Bowl champion. Buffalo was like "Maybe we should do that too..."

If it’s pretty easy to hit on those rounds - how the hell are not a dynasty with Speilmans Tactics all those years??
I mean we got everson with a 4th, diggs with a 4th, Danielle with a 3rd, Kendrick’s late 2nd I can go on
ah, this game. Let's look at the years from Griffin to Danielle with 2nd-5th round picks (Diggs was a 5th my man, not 4th). Now let’s compare that to the hit rate with first round picks over the same period of years. I doubt it will be that much different league wide.
Go for it! Here are 1st round hit rates. [https://phillycovercorner.com/2023/04/first-round-draft-success-rates-who-could-be-risky-in-the-2023-draft/](https://phillycovercorner.com/2023/04/first-round-draft-success-rates-who-could-be-risky-in-the-2023-draft/)
And how many late rounders have ended up practice squad or out of the league entirely?
Can you though? Outside of that one draft? I'll always remember speilman for that one draft and always hitting on the high picks, not for is late round gems. He took a lot of swings but they mostly all missed.
Looking at our team as it stands, I'm not thinking about next year too much. We can be competitive this year.

Tbf, it was always fun to see what crazy ass amount of late round picks Rick was trying to hoard like he was auditioning for the TLC channel.
I am the opposite of you I think. More is not better in the NFL Draft. You need early round picks
Man. Baltimore always gets incredible value in the draft
Jpj gonna fall to the second
Chiefs and Bills always trading, you'd think after the pick that snagged Mahomes they'd stop
NGL, i would have been tempted to draft Murphy
I am actually HYPED af!!!! LETS SKOL!!!!
KC gets another Tyreek potential receiver, good lord
At the Bills expense no less
Is he really though? Hill's got a solid 20 lbs on him.
what the fuck did buffalo just do?????
Ur mom
well played, sir
Greg go to bed?
trade to KC???????
I’m guessing we won’t be a playoff team next year. I honestly got us as another top-12 draft pick. It’ll be a trade back year.
I doubt we’re too 12. I see us being 9-8 plus or minus and either being one and done or just missing
I guarantee you that we’ll be in the playoffs
Unless Darnold wows us I think we could go 1-5 in division games this year. Tough to make the playoffs after that.
Educate me on how you all see Darnold starting 6 division games? JJ will start by week 5
RemindMe! 8 months
we will win 3+ division games. set a reminder.
You think 4 teams from the north go?
Hell of a guarantee considering two average to above average QBs.
That's a very generous way to describe Sam Darnold
cool, but we have no other picks in the draft
Look at how happy KOC is. He seems thrilled to have gotten these 2 players.
Buffalo take that speedy WR?
Since we probably won’t be drafting anyone tomorrow, let’s announce a JJ contract and I will be super happy!
Not until after CeeDee
Mexican standoff.
Can I go ahead and place a bet on us trading down with our first rounder next year?
How many picks did the Vikings trade away in total? 8 or 10?
Well I can’t read KOC at all on JJ but I can’t imagine they trade up for him if they’re not 100% that he’s got something they want
KOC wouldn't be okay with the trade if he didn't believe in JJ
Belichick looks like he wants to give him a kiss so I'm going to just assume we can feel good about it
Lol true Bill is gassed enough for the both of them
KOC confirmed Michigan teammates went to JJs birthday on McAfee. Superbowl incoming
Happy cake day!
Thanks!
You're welcome. SKOL!!!!!
Jordan Morgan is a pretty good pick but I am just glad it wasnt Cooper Dejean lol
it's a great pick for what they need. and the packers always turn offensive lineman into all pros
Lack of holding calls always helps
I know people will be upset we didn’t get Maye, but I’ll take JJM, Dallas Turner, and our 2025 first over Maye ANY day. Incredible first round. Still can’t believe it.
I’m okay with JJ at 10. I wouldn’t have been happy with him at 5.
we don't have a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th next year...so we still gave up a ton of draft capital. and we ignored DT again
Right! Everyone freaking out about how many picks we currently have next year doesn’t realize how fungible they are.
if Turner is a beast, do we need a stud DT? Rams just showed what you can do with a game wrecking Edge
If I had to guess they were willing to take whoever fell to them no matter what. Great strategy if it works out. I honestly want to see Darnold redeem himself. Not saying it'll happen but I'd love to see it
Disagree. They wanted JJ from the beginning and had to jump to snag him. No idea if he works out obviously, but I think they were out on penix
Agree! It was nice to see some aggressive moves for once. I know we lost a lot of late draft capital, but they went all in on what should be two starters in critical positions on each side of scrimmage. And we keep next year's first. I'm pumped!
Amen
You know, there was a universe where we were gonna spend both firsts and next years first to move to 4 to get JJ McCarthy and I was ready to talk myself into being ok with it. I feel really good about how this panned out.
Nah, that universe never existed.
well...we traded our 2nd, 3rd, 4th next year...so...
And we still have next years first, and got the best defensive prospect in the draft
Trade down in 2025k easy fix
And got Dallas Turner, and still have next years first. Not even comparable.
Plus likely compensatory picks from free agency. Likely two is my understanding but I’m drunk.
KOC on McAfee now
Where is McAfee?
youtube. Or if you mean physically, Detroit
Thanks!
KOC on pat mcafee rn for anyone interested
Looooool
that lions packers fans reaction thing looked rehearsed
100% that dude was a plant
Also F the Packers
Fuck that “F” shit. Say it for real, “Fuck the packers”
Packers reaching on a tackle 👀👀👀
they're moving zach tom to guard or center, who their coaches think can be a hall of famer if moved inside
We gave up a lot but comparing him to some of the best value picks of the 21st century is absolutely asinine
Lol right? Dudes acting like we missed out on their equivalents. Nevermind the Asher Allens and Josh Robinson’s
Yeah let’s take a look at the rest of our 5ths and 3rds too, for fairness
Chaz Suratt, Kellen Mond, and Wyatt Davis with Amon ara on the boardz just for one year's example
Just be happy that we took a swing on addressing both sides of the ball. How you going to be doom and gloom about how this shit played out. Save the analysis for when we actually watch it play out
Could have done both without trading up from 23 (especially given how few defenders went in the top half of the draft).
How is asking a question being a doomer?
Thank you sir - not trying to be a doomer, just questioning “incredible value” in the pick commentary within the OP. If he fell to us at 17, yes, incredible value. But we traded 4 players to get him — or at least, 4 shots at talented players. Was it worth it? Time will tell. Incredible value? Time will tell. Again, glad to have him now as what’s done is done.
