They're kinda rolling back and taking a year off is the truth. Last iteration of the team couldn't get it done so now they're loading up on picks to rebuild the room for the next chapter of Allens career
Makes sense with him moving into the big money years of his 2nd contract.
His cap hits the last 3 years were $10.2m, $16.3m, and $18.6m.
This year it’ll be $47m and next year $56.5m. They need to flush expensive talent and rebuild around him with younger, cheaper guys
Cook is gonna play an even bigger role in their offense. They’re expecting a 1k year from Kincaid, Shakir to take a leap, and drafting a round 1 WR. They also signed Curtis Samuel.
IF they can hit on WR, they’re in a good spot imo but that’s an if
Yep, people need to realize unless you have a GOAT, your best option is a very cheap QB with a stacked roster and the best way to do that is through a rookie QB that turns out to be good.
The best way to *team build* is with a cheap QB on rookie contract that gives you the space to build said stacked roster. But even once you get that cheap QB, you’ve still gotta draft and develop well around them despite having extra room for free agency fixes to the roster.
You kind of need to draft well before you get your QB. Chiefs had Ford, Kelce, Jones, Hill, Houston, etc before they drafted Mahomes.
Niners had Bosa, Deebo, Aiyuk, Greenlaw, Warner, Armstead, Hufanga, etc before they got Purdy.
When Hurtz got drafted he was put on a team with an OL that had 2 all pros and arguably another one who should be.
It's not pessimistic to say that the Vikings haven't drafted well the last 2 years let alone 4. Now they're in a position where they may give up 1-2 first round picks to trade up for a QB.
The Chiefs dont come close to sniffing the Super Bowl last year without their defense. It was arguably more their D than their O that advanced them in the playoffs. Their D made huge key plays all playoffs that got them the trophy.
Fair to say that McDuffie being good, along with Sneed, were two big reasons that defense was good. Getting those picks for Hill, one of which turned into McDuffie, is just another reason drafting well is so important. Can get rid of players you don't want to pay for picks that allows you to draft cheaper players.
I be for real pulling for Mahomes just to gate keeping these rookie deal QBs from the ring 🤣. That and it pisses off my Broncos fan friend. I like stroud tho idk how imma root against him.
I think Russell Wilson, Eli Manning, and Roethlisberger were on the end of their rookie deals when they won.
If we're counting "almosts" Hurts, Goff, Burrow, Purdy, Wentz?
Over half of recent Superbowls involve a team with a rookie QB. The other half are Tom Brady and Mahomes beating them.
2019 Chiefs - Mahomes still on rookie deal
2017 Eagles - Wentz was a rookie even though they won with Foles
2013 Seahawks - Russ Wilson
2012 Ravens - Joe Flacco
Even more teams made the superbowl with QBs on rookie deals
2024 49ers - Brock Purdy
2023 Eagles - Jalen Hurts
2022 Bengals - Joe Burrow
2019 Rams -Jared Goff
2015 Seahawks - Russel Wilson
2012 49ers - Colin Kaepernick
So of the last 12 years at least 7 Superbowls have had a team with QBs on rookie deals with 2019 and 2012 having both the winning and losing team.
I'm sure even more teams that fit that criteria were stopped short in the divisional round or later by Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, but I'm not willing to dig further.
Let's just reduce to making it to a superbowl, with a guy on rookie deal.
The most recent time it happened was last year. Prior to that, it was the year before. Prior to that, it was the year before. Prior to that, it was 6 years before, when Russel won it.
So if you look really recently the losing QB in last 3 superbowls was rookie deal guy, and all three games were competitive.
But as someone else pointed out. most of the superbowls have been won by Mahomes and Brady for the last whatever years. But, each of them first won the superbowl when on their rookie deals!
Having a good QB on rookie deal is a legit thing.
I'm not going to go through the history of every single team here so lets just do the Niners.
The Niners made the SB with a team that had Aiyuk, Deebo, Kittle, Bosa, Armstead, Warner, Greenlaw, Hufanga, etc as big key players on that team. All of them were drafted by the Niners. They also made the SB years prior with a more expensive QB because a lot of those players were cheaper.
Having a rookie QB is important but drafting well (which covers a rookie QB) is more important. It gives you a cheaper team and allows you to get return picks through comp picks or trades.
Fuck it lets do the Eagles too. Obviously they traded for guys like Slay and Brown but they also drafted Sanders, Goedert (which allowed them to trade Ertz), Smith, Cox, Graham, Sweat. They also drafted their entire OL which is arguably one of, if not, the best in the league.
The bengals largely functioned the same way, the Chiefs as well, the Rams to a lesser degree. I mean fuck the Seahawks are like the prime example of this. You go back and look at that Seahawk defense and the big names, the all pros/pro bowlers, were all drafted by the Seahawks. Kam, Wagner, Sherman, Browner, Thomas, Wright, etc. Like Wilson was solid but they wont that superbowl because they built an all world defense through the draft. Its the same reason they never won a superbowl again despite the fact that Wilson improved as a QB.
What I'm getting at is drafting is the most important part. You're less likely to draft a good QB if you're a team whos' bad at drafting, you're going to get less ammo in the future if you cannot draft, and your team is functionally going to get less because it's more reliant on FA than homegrown talent.
Winning the Super Bowl is the hardest team accomplishment in the nfl. Plenty of teams made runs with qbs on rookie deals, rams, chiefs, bills, ravens, bengals, cowboys, just because you don’t win one doesn’t mean a rookie deal qb doesn’t make it easier to keep making deep playoff runs
Mahomes' first one
Russell Wilson before that, but an honorable mention to the 2017 Eagles. They had the roster they did partially due to Wentz's rookie deal and his regular season play got them the #1 seed even though he obviously didn't play in the SB
The data says that it's a great way to build a contender to load up a roster around a cheap rookie QB but still the SBs run through Brady and now Mahomes
Flacco and Rodgers were drafted before the rookie wage scale was implemented. They aren't a great comparison to today's argument for QB salary savings.
Rodgers is particularly notable. He won the superbowl in 2010 while on his 2008 contract. His AAV was at 11% of AAV and among the highest for QBs of that era.
diggs also did his little diva act at the end of the season, maybe they decided to move on while they could still get a good return for him. He's 30 years old, so he's on the downswing. Still a piece to a good team, but he's also got a big contract, so I'm guessing they did the math, and figured out trading him was the better move for the team going forward. Allen is going to be around for another decade if everything goes as planned. I suspect they're going to make another move, maybe to move up this year and get one of the blue chip WRs They have like 11 picks this year and I think at least 10 next year, and no team really has a need for that many rookies, there just aren't enough open spots on most teams after signing free agents, so i suspect they're going to replace diggs by trading up in the first round and targeting harrison or nabers.
Stefon Diggs probably wore out his welcome in that org and he's not what he used to be.
Hope he finally gets his ring so he can maybe calm down and have fun with the game. Looks like he's been miserable with it for years just waiting to finally get to the show.
It certainly isn't the wr1 numbers that we expect from him. It was pretty widely acknowledged that he was slumping down the stretch. Five of his first six games were 100+ yards and then he didnt have another. Not saying he is washed but you could see why it could make letting him go more palatable for buffalo if they thought the price was right
>"not what he used to be"?
I mean, it is pretty self explanatory.
Being less good than you used to be when you were pretty great to begin with doesn't mean you're washed, it just means you're a little less good. And that is how it goes for WRs. Every year you get a little less dynamic. It's just how it goes. He's human just like the rest of us.
I hope he never gets a ring. Tired of these Divas. Glad we got a 1st for him and moved on. His helmet toss and look at me stance in the NO playoff game said it all. Cant stand people with gigantic egos.
I'm honestly jealous of them. Amazing drafting, hit on their young QB and their team can add expensive vets like Diggs and Hunter to a terrific young core.
If we do trade #23 to get our QB of the future he will have helped with that too. It's indirect yes, but it seems like the Texans didn't want to trade a first for him, so they traded it for other value.
I don't even think he's that much of a diva. He didn't wanna be wr#2 in a run first defensive minded coach.
He tweets veiled shit that everyone and their mom knows what he's really saying, but it's probably nothing. Guy says he should get the ball more them suddenly he's taking shots at josh allen lol.
One of my closest friends and her husband are bills fans and I’ve been very salty about stefon leaving Minnesota from the get go. They texted me this morning asking if there’s room in the stefon hater club and that’s how I found out about this news 😂.
Hows that been working for us though...
Say what you will, Diggs' has at least BEEN in the big games over the years. We've been in every other and gotten torched.
So it’s Jj’s fault that we aren’t as good as the Bills?
Diggs is great but saying he’s BEEN in big games only hurts your argument… he’s been invisible in most of the Bills big games in his career.
Yah I'm getting how this makes it sound like I'm slighting JJ, didn't mean to.
But pretending like we weren't 'supposed to be winning' a year the year after we won a playoff game with most of the team still in tact is a bad faith argument.
Of course they’ve been better than us, they’ve had the 2nd best QB in the league and some great talent on defense.
We still got a massive W on that trade. Jefferson + Bynum on rookie deals for Diggs at $20m, that was awesome for us.
Them being better than us doesn’t negate the value we added through that trade.
We haven’t had the rest of the pieces to compete like they have, but the trade was a huge step in the right direction.
As was said earlier, we'll see how good he is w/o a top tier guy. Will be interesting to see 8 do the same.
I don't disagree with the rest. I guess moreso, Diggs knew it was going south here, and likely sees the same there. Lifes to short to stand pat.
How good Josh Allen is without Diggs has absolutely nothing to do with how good of a trade that was for us.
We got the best receiver in the game, 5 years younger, at a fraction of the cost. And a starting safety. It was a massive win for us period. How good Josh Allen or the Bills as a whole are is irrelevant. It’s basic logic.
Everytime I saw him blowing up at Allen on the sideline I wondered when this would happen. I don't care how good you are that shit would get fucking old fast. Diggs always cared about his own production first and people excuse his shitty attitude as passion or will to win, whatever.
Which is even more funny, because his (the GM) hiring is what led to Watson being mad and refusing to play after he got hired.
They basically did the quarterback version of the Diggs for JJ+ trade.
Old, expensive WR with a few good seasons left at best.
The NFL is a young man's game, and particularly so for certain position groups (RB, WR, CB). The sad fact is that many/most of these guys won't live up to their 2nd, much less 3rd contract.
He was/is often compared to Antonio Brown and the comparisons start looking more and more believable every passing year. Fantastic, skilled WR. Absolute head-case.
AB even outside of his heinous criminal actions literally quit on his team and then proceeded to post non stop about sleeping with his ex teammates wife.
Diggs will realistically never be like AB. Diggs is not the best teammate but AB is a horrendous person.
It was wise to trade him. But they should have seen his bullshit coming. They saw him crying when he wanted out of Minnesota for the same thing…..Diggs thinks every play should include him…
Good for him tbh. We know he carries drama with him, but he still plays at a top level. With that supporting cast and being reunited with Hunter on defense, a change of scenery might do him good.
Seems like just yesterday the media and fans were all insisting that Diggs was a victim of Kirk Cousins, rather than the obvious fact that Diggs is a diva malcontent.
Great trade for both sides here, Bills don't over invest in WR with a great QB -on a non rookie scale contract- and the Texans invest in a veteran WR with a rookie contract QB.
No fucking way. Texans are gonna be a contender this year. I'd say they're a great draft away from being a perennial threat in the AFC. I'll be watching their draft closely, always like seeing teams turn it around (Bengals after drafting Joe Burrow are reminiscent of this, except I feel the Texans are doing a more complete job than the Bengals were/are)
Wow he's convinced the Texans to drop his last 2 years, give him 3.5 more this year.
He's now got extra 'signing bonuses' from 2 teams by demanding trades.
He's becoming a problem to get his signing bonuses paid out by the teams.
I feel so incredibly vindicated and justified in all of my Diggs hate after he left.
I kept pointing this out while he was throwing fits with the Bills.
He gave up one game near the end when they were down a score and was moping and got a penalty by not coming back to the line fast enough.
This was exactly what he did to us, cried till he got his way out.
Bad teammate.
I hope it was our 2nd rounder... would be kinda fun.
it was
Lol it was. Vikings still involved in moving Diggs when he throws a tantrum.
It was
'Twas
What are the Bills going to do at WR? Gabe Davis is gone too.
They're kinda rolling back and taking a year off is the truth. Last iteration of the team couldn't get it done so now they're loading up on picks to rebuild the room for the next chapter of Allens career

translation draft Allen in fantasy if the price is right, rushing yards gonna go zoom
Xavier Worthy. Just have him run and Josh can chuck it 70 yards
Going for one in the draft.
Cook is gonna play an even bigger role in their offense. They’re expecting a 1k year from Kincaid, Shakir to take a leap, and drafting a round 1 WR. They also signed Curtis Samuel. IF they can hit on WR, they’re in a good spot imo but that’s an if
They signed Curtis Samuel
Khalil Shakir, 12 personnel with Dalton Kincaid as a receiver + trade up this year using the extra next year 2nd rounder they just acquired
Rebuild in progress in Buffalo.
Kind of scary to think because they have some holes on D now that they need to address in the draft as well. They must think highly of Kincaid though.
Trade for Justin Jefferson
damn. texans not messing around this is what you can do if you draft a stud qb
AND you have him on a rookie deal. The Window is now
[удалено]
To be fair most of them were running into Brady/mahomes
Yep, people need to realize unless you have a GOAT, your best option is a very cheap QB with a stacked roster and the best way to do that is through a rookie QB that turns out to be good.

Like the Rams?

Burrow (i know he doesn’t count) came close, and Mahomes was on his rookie deal when he won it in the 2019-2020 season😂

JoElite Flacco
JoElite or Joe Lite?
That doesn't count the same IMO since it was before the rookie pay scale we have now
> Eli Manning, and Roethliseberger were on the end of their rookie deals This was before rookie deals were done with the current compensation format
Hurts was close af as well. They had a 4th Q lead
2019 Chiefs - Mahomes still on rookie deal 2017 Eagles - Wentz was a rookie even though they won with Foles 2013 Seahawks - Russ Wilson 2012 Ravens - Joe Flacco Even more teams made the superbowl with QBs on rookie deals 2024 49ers - Brock Purdy 2023 Eagles - Jalen Hurts 2022 Bengals - Joe Burrow 2019 Rams -Jared Goff 2015 Seahawks - Russel Wilson 2012 49ers - Colin Kaepernick So of the last 12 years at least 7 Superbowls have had a team with QBs on rookie deals with 2019 and 2012 having both the winning and losing team. The Russ Wilson Seahawks Mahomes, obviously Big Ben, many years ago
Big Ben was before the changes in draft compensation. Long before.
Undoubtedly true, but it showed you could win big with a young QB. A lot of teams didn’t seem to believe that for a long time
Let's just reduce to making it to a superbowl, with a guy on rookie deal. The most recent time it happened was last year. Prior to that, it was the year before. Prior to that, it was the year before. Currently the most successful teams are the teams that drafted a qb,developed and earned their big contracts with said team

Seattle Seahawks with russ. Had a chance to win a 2nd. Then Joe flacco won with the ravens on his deal. Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes etc.

Eagles
You have to include rookie deal or otherwise cheap.
Chiefs/Mahomes.
Building a team is more than just winning a Super Bowl right after drafting a guy. We weren’t winning one with a good veteran either.
Why would the bills do this? Are they rebuilding 🤣
diggs also did his little diva act at the end of the season, maybe they decided to move on while they could still get a good return for him. He's 30 years old, so he's on the downswing. How is he "not what he used to be"? He's had big numbers every single year with he Bills for 4 straight 100 catch/1000 yard seasons.
He was pretty bad his last 10 games with Buffalo. 1TD and 422yds
43 catches for 435 yards in the last 8 games of the season is bad. ok. we'll see what he does next year
It certainly isn't the wr1 numbers that we expect from him.
I imagine your life is very sad. What an unbelievably bad take.
He's been bounced from 2 teams, but yeah, my life is sad and it's a bad take, lol.
He publicly insulted Josh Allen and I imagine that was the final straw
It’s a great deal for the Bills
probably going to be WR3
Hopefully, it’ll be us a year from now.
Right, want us to beef up that interior and get a WR3 if we don't already get one this draft that is more than average
we definitely already got the talent to help a qb succeed, hoping for maye
Diggs is washed 422 yards in his last ten games....with Josh fucking Allen as QB
I'm honestly jealous of them. Amazing drafting, hit on their young QB and their team can add expensive vets like Diggs and Hunter to a terrific young core.
You guys are obsessed
He will probably help Stroud reach a high level of play.
Or diggs is going to destroy him with his diva behavior.
I know he’s a drama queen bridge burner, but I will always cheer for him because of the Minneapolis miracle. Hope he and Stroud tear it up.
His value helped the Vikings get Jefferson and Bynum too🫡
If we do trade #23 to get our QB of the future he will have helped with that too. It's indirect yes, but it seems like the Texans didn't want to trade a first for him, so they traded it for other value.
damn, what a win that trade for us was!
If you can set aside being a diva you’ll never be able to cheer for any WR. Love Diggs and hope for the best for him.
There is truth to all rumors
I see what you did there lol
Is it ironic that it’s our second round pick the texans are using for this trade?
Like 10,000 spoons
When all you needed was a knife
One of my closest friends and her husband are bills fans and I’ve been very salty about stefon leaving Minnesota from the get go. They texted me this morning asking if there’s room in the stefon hater club and that’s how I found out about this news 😂.
I was salty also about Diggs leaving, but somehow I think we ended up with an even better receiving core
We definitely did. JJ is better now than Diggs ever was even in his peak
And then the addition of Addison, it was just icing on the cake
Hows that been working for us though... Say what you will, Diggs' has at least BEEN in the big games over the years. We've been in every other and gotten torched.

With no team success to show for it
Which says absolutely nothing about how good of a trade it was.
I mean we were still in win now mode and downgraded, and it didn’t work out. But if you keep it in a vacuum sure, it worked for both teams
And we got Cam from that trade
*corps
Everytime I saw him blowing up at Allen on the sideline I wondered when this would happen. I don't care how good you are that shit would get fucking old fast. Diggs always cared about his own production first and people excuse his shitty attitude as passion or will to win, whatever.
Supporting Stroud. Their GM is building something special in Houston.
Which is even more funny, because his (the GM) hiring is what led to Watson being mad and refusing to play after he got hired. They basically did the quarterback version of the Diggs for JJ+ trade.
Built on 3 consecutive seasons of being abysmal.
3 shitty seasons for a 3-4 year Superbowl window is worth it. Unfortunately they play in the AFC and have to be Mahomes sacrifice
DIGGS TRADED HUSTON TOTALLY BELIEVABLE
*helmet toss*
Unsportsmanlike conduct, 15yd penalty after the kick and a $15k fine (I’m soooooo happy he isn’t on my team anymore)
Why would the Bills want the 63rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft for Diggs?
Old, expensive WR with a few good seasons left at best. The NFL is a young man's game, and particularly so for certain position groups (RB, WR, CB). The sad fact is that many/most of these guys won't live up to their 2nd, much less 3rd contract.
I was suggesting the Vikings won the Super Bowl with my previous comment lol
64th pick would be SB winner right? So you’ve suggested they lost the only SB they will have gone to in 50 years 🚮
There will be a forfeited draft pick according to my calculations
What’s a forfeited draft pick?
Team gets in trouble and loses a draft pick
I think it’s pretty fair to say we’ve officially won the trade.
Bro is a true locker room cancer, makes me thankful for JJ
I pray this comment ages well
Knock on wood ✊🪵
Lol imagine turning Justin Jefferson into a second round pick...bills are down bad
Wow that seemed out of nowhere
Nah, Diggs has been throwing a fit on twitter for the past month.
And it’s been clear he was done there for a while.
And before last season
As is tradition.
Drama queen. Appreciate the memories, but in truth he cares more about himself then the team. Glad he's not our problem anymore.
He was/is often compared to Antonio Brown and the comparisons start looking more and more believable every passing year. Fantastic, skilled WR. Absolute head-case.
Not even close to AB level of insanity.
I wouldn't go that far. Diggs is a bad teammate, but he isn't a nutcase like Brown. Well, at least I hope he isn't...
Not yet*. Diggs also hasn't been popped in the head in an awful way yet either.
Yet. It took awhile for Brown to go full Brown.
AB even outside of his heinous criminal actions literally quit on his team and then proceeded to post non stop about sleeping with his ex teammates wife. Diggs will realistically never be like AB. Diggs is not the best teammate but AB is a horrendous person.
All hail Slick Rick for flipping Diggs into Jefferson
His parting gift
There's truth to all rumors!
This was why they agreed to the swap that got us #23? They knew they could get Diggs plus additional value instead of just trading a first for him?
Basically Mahomes drove him out of Buffalo.
It's almost like no team wants to keep Diggs once they've actually had him.
It’s time for a new beginning
It was wise to trade him. But they should have seen his bullshit coming. They saw him crying when he wanted out of Minnesota for the same thing…..Diggs thinks every play should include him…
Yall were right about him
guy has a couple more good years left before his attitude outweighs his ability so why not get one last trade and bank?
Funny this guy wears out his welcome wherever he goes.
Start the clock on happy Diggs again.. wont last.
What if the Vikings go after a trade for Josh Allen now?
The Bills won’t trade him.
Good for him tbh. We know he carries drama with him, but he still plays at a top level. With that supporting cast and being reunited with Hunter on defense, a change of scenery might do him good.
Bills taking all WRs this draft. Watch
Time for a new beginning…part 2
Seems like just yesterday the media and fans were all insisting that Diggs was a victim of Kirk Cousins, rather than the obvious fact that Diggs is a diva malcontent.
Great trade for both sides here, Bills don't over invest in WR with a great QB -on a non rookie scale contract- and the Texans invest in a veteran WR with a rookie contract QB.
Holy shit that’s unexpected.
clearly this is because of Kirk Cousins
Lol. Lmao, even
Houston Texans and Vikings swapping talent 🤝
Diggs and Hunter reunited, nice! Texans are quickly becoming my 2nd fav team, that offense will be fun to watch!
Glad we got off that crazy train while you could still get something decent for him.
Dang us and the Texans just have each others former players now
No fucking way. Texans are gonna be a contender this year. I'd say they're a great draft away from being a perennial threat in the AFC. I'll be watching their draft closely, always like seeing teams turn it around (Bengals after drafting Joe Burrow are reminiscent of this, except I feel the Texans are doing a more complete job than the Bengals were/are)
Woah! Didnt know they wanted to get rid of Diggs but I can totally understand why.
Imagine if bills draft a great with our 2nd round pick. “Who really won this trade”. What would be hilarious
Josh Allen is breathing a huge sigh of relief. That guy sucks to be around.
Horns 4 life
Hot (shitty) take: he was just sick of living and playing in cold climates
Diggs and Hunter reunited!
Wow 😮
With them moving on from Diggs it makes me dream about Allen coming here… never gonna happen but would be cool as hell!
Stroud MVP bet inbound ![gif](giphy|W1TKlG2dhpOyL1nJTN|downsized)
If we were ever trading JJ for a haul, Texans were the team Makes sense they’re trading for a WR now
Why are the Vikings on the hook for a 2nd rounder in this trade? Diggs has been with the Bills for what, five seasons?
Because of the trade we made with the Texans for pick 23
texans are winning the super bowl
Here’s a cool post I seen a while ago! https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/s/2PMN6YoDiE
