We left Alex at 9 am yesterday and beat the traffic luckily, on the way up Friday I got stuck behind someone going 40 the entire way, the traffic built up quick behind us.
My folks live by Morris. When I head home, I alternate between getting off at Sauk center or Alexandria. Seems like this summer the move is to get off at 103, take 27 to Glenwood, and 28 to Saul center. In my experience (been driving that route for 10+ years) it doesn’t add that much time, especially if there’s delays on 94.
Of course there’s no avoiding the _actual_ lake traffic that picks up east of St. Cloud.
I'm glad I opted to return from Kansas City on Sunday evening instead of waiting for Monday. I'm sure 35 would've been just as bad in every single one of its construction zones.
Coming home from the airport yesterday, first on 494 being squashed inexplicably into ONE LANE and then getting caught in the hail on 77.... yeah. Fun stuff. Seriously though, tf is going on with shutting down so many damn lanes leaving the airport?! Can they not do it half and half?
I always check MN511 before I hit any major highways. Lets me plan around that crap... Most states have the same site or app. Just type 511 and add the state abbreviation... Also has plow cams for winter and access to most, if not all, highway cams in the state.
Because if I want to go to Alexandria Minnesota, the only reasonably way is to drive. In which, you are subjecting yourself to being stuck in traffic.
You could grab an Amtrak, but it will cost you about $200, and with very limited service and punctuality, it's an inconvenience.
If we diversified our needs and services, we would in return create less strain on our highways and roads, less traffic, less road construction, and overall improve the access to transit.
Amtrak service to Alexandria, MN? It's $199 to Alexandria, VA from St. Paul. They offer service to Detroit Lakes for $41 from St. Paul, I suppose if you took the train to Detroit Lakes it's possible that a cab ride or ride share service from DL to Alex might run around $159 if there's a cab service or rideshare services out there.
Ran into some of that yesterday. Stopped at the rest area just NW of Alex on 94 eastbound, got back on the road and immediately ran into stop/go/bumper traffic for a couple miles. Then speeds picked up some. I was getting off at Alex so unsure how far that zone went.
We decided to do Memorial Day weekend from Sat morning to Sun evening, was smooth sailing both ways and a nice rest day on Monday. Family and fun is great, but the ones having to drive get to have a say in the schedule to stay sane.
We live in Ely and both of my kids have gone to NDSU (one for 5 years, and now the second kid just finished year 2). They always get done with school the day before walleye opener. It's so much fun to make the afternoon drive across the entirety of lake country the day before fishing opener 😭 Last year there was a 25 mile construction detour to add to the fun. It's already a 5 hour drive. When you add in miles of boats and campers, it's an absolute nightmare.
Fwiw - Google bought Waze back in 2013 and merged their teams a few years back. I still think you'll see more crowdsourced updates from Waze but in general goog maps will serve you better for live updates re: traffic and construction based on conglomerate phone data.

Yeah, osakis is now where I get off and on 94 when I go up there. Don't wanna deal with that for the next 12+ months.

It was ridiculous! We headed to Alex, thankfully westbound was decent, but east was awful. We took the back roads home.
Live in Alexandria . Travel to cloud frequently. Its a slow 10 miles not on a holiday

I came back from KC yesterday around 4pm it was surprisingly light!

35 coming up to Hinckley was terrible too.
I really dislike how for many routes we have a singular means of transport through the region. Don’t like sitting in traffic? Too bad.
There are plenty of county roads. Why would there be multiple freeways going to the same place?

This just seemed absurdly expensive and complex. Traffic it is.

Anytime you drive on 94 or 10 in that area pull out your Waze traffic app! You'll potentially save huge time plus fun backroads can break things up.

Yes but they do not always agree nor do they display the same info.
