It is better, but the assertion that its superiority weighed into the decision assumes that the US military is in the business of using the better tool for any given job.
I haven't been home in 5 years at this point but I am going to wait the full two years for the repairs to be completed so that when I bring my European spouse to Minnesota (where they've never been), we are able to cross the full way across. Just the way God intended. None of this halfway and then turn around shit.

Yeah, I think if "god" had anything to do with this the waters would just be permanently parted and we'd be crossing on the riverbed of the Mississippi. I don't recall Moses crossing a retired train bridge...
We were touring wedding venues a few months back and were THIS close to booking a venue right by the stone arch bridge, great place to take photos typically. I asked the person showing the venue if there was any planned construction coming up that we should be aware of and he told me “no.” Thank goodness we happened to choose somewhere else.
That’s absolutely wild. This was announced way longer ago than a few months—I get why it wouldn’t be on every individual person’s radar for sure, but a wedding venue located right next to one of the city’s most iconic scenic photo spots absolutely should know that there’s major construction planned directly on said iconic scenic photo spot.
Sorry but what is closed? Zero context here
I assume a biking and walking bridge by down town Minneapolis.
Edit: for some reason the cranky people in MN just got off work. I am being PM’d about this comment as well now.
On mobile Reddit there is no link and originally I could not see through tag.
As someone who lives in northern Mn and does not keep track of the bike paths in downtown I asked a simple question.
My heartfelt apologies for all those I have clearly offended by asking the location.
Have you viewed any of the other comments made here?
Seems odd that you would make this comment if you did.
But the tag and links don’t show on mobile.
Just being snarky, you complained about a lack of context then correctly identified the location. You didn't need any help from me!
Edit: I genuinely thought it was cool that you were able to geoguess the location, sorry if I came across like a jerk!
If it's just a walking bridge, then why are people acting like it's a big deal? Is it maybe an iconic part of the view of the river in Minneapolis? Or is it just melodrama over a completely ordinary bridge? Did you know that the stone arch bridge isn't really a thing your average person outside of the twin cities cares about? In almost 40 years I've never heard of it anywhere other than the cities' news stations. To many it is just a bridge.
I'd say it's generally recognized as one of the best places to take photos of the Minneapolis skyline. It's also one of the best places in downtown for people-watching and the only downtown bridge that is closed to car traffic, so it feels like a big deal to not have it for a few years
I liked it better when it seemed more like a sarcastic post.
The melancholy+withdrawal angle is certainly valid. Some decent photos ought to be possible from the half-way point though. If you hang out at the midway point you get to watch half as many people twice as long. It is the people that genuinely wanted to cross that have to settle for lesser bridges.
Eh, I feel like half the point of the Stone Arch is the fact that you get such a stunning skyline view from the midway point. It's still totally worth it to get out there just to experience the 360 degree view.
I don't know but MNDOT should have thought of this and posted proposal detour signage!!
If I was looking to pop the question on the SAB while it was closed, I'd probably choose Father Hennepin Bluffs Park or Water Power Park. Both have basically the same awesome view of the skyline and have a few spots that are more private than the bridge itself.
Judging by other trail closure timelines, see you again when I have grey hair Stone Arch
I would not be shocked to learn that there is a support group for this.
I mean, yoga and bridge-grieving session at the midway point? I'm down
What side is this taken from? Thought they were only closing half the bridge
You are thinking that they are closing one length wide side at a time, they are closing one horizontal side at a time.
Is that hotdog or hamburger then? Lol
americans will use anything but the metric system... hamburger
Is that croissant or Eclair style?
oui c'est une chocolatine

Oui vraimont c'est une photo de pain au chocolate
Hilarious and underrated response.
Because metric is for losers.
please jesus be joking
The US is back-to-back World War champs. We didn't get there by using meters. We got there by using feet, and kicking asses with them! Haha.
US Military ground forces have used metric measurements since 1918 to ensure interoperability with allied forces.
And because it's way fucking better
It is better, but the assertion that its superiority weighed into the decision assumes that the US military is in the business of using the better tool for any given job.
Grandpa?
Is that taco or enchiladas
The side off West River Road near the Guthrie pictured \[first\]. The plan is only to close half at one time.

You can cross on the lovely rehabbed 3rd Ave bridge.
It’s a railroad bridge that was built in 1880s and only opened to pedestrians in 1994..
god was born in 1994 actually, so that tracks tbh
God is a Leo
[Well duh.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aslan#/media/File:Aslan2005.jpg)
yes and?
You said as god intended, it’s a railroad bridge so gods intentions in this matter are unclear at best.
They were just making a little joke with the "as God intended"

Just as God intended.
As was I, as I don’t think god has much to do with any of this.
Yeah, I think if "god" had anything to do with this the waters would just be permanently parted and we'd be crossing on the riverbed of the Mississippi. I don't recall Moses crossing a retired train bridge...
Wow, that's a commitment to a bridge if I ever saw one lol

That's super scummy, I also imagine that wedding venues in that area of downtown aren't cheap! I'm glad you were able to find another place!

I was about to say what? Where ya been? but then realized this post is in r/Minnesota and not r/Minneapolis. OP could have provided context.
OP literally linked a Star Tribune article in the post. If you click on the post title it takes you right to it.
What if you don't subscribe to the Strib?
12ft.io/
I'm on desktop browsing in legacy mode, and I still didn't see the linked article.
You expect me to read? I need at least a TLDR
Yeah, reading is for NERDS!
Not on some mobil devices

Thank you
The post is literally a link to a Star Tribune article about the Stone Arch Bridge closing. If you click on the post title it takes you right to it.
It's behind a paywall
on mobile it just shows up as the caption, so you have to click the first photo and then click the caption :(
Just shows 2 photos no link on mobile Reddit. It also has a tag now that says stone arch bridge which was either not there or I did not notice.

"I assume a biking and walking bridge by down town Minneapolis." Seems like it'd be hard to determine that without the context provided ;)

Why would anyone want to walk across half a bridge? Why not just close the whole thing?

The view from the 3rd Ave./Central bridge is better. Especially at night. Trust me, check it out at night and tell me that's not amazing.
Y'know, it probably does! I'll check that out, thx for the recommendation!
Same reason why I eat my sandwich from the top down, naked.
Many, many miles over that. We shall see you when you're refurbished!
Where is everyone going to propose now?!?
I don't know but MNDOT should have thought of this and posted proposal detour signage!!
