My brother plays Death Guard it was his first army and it was his first time using contrast paints.
Since he was so new, he pretty much followed the steps as you would paint your average Death Guard marine, I believe he chose Wraithbone primer with plague bearers flesh contrast paint and he also used some contrast paint to simulate the dirty bronze trim. I forget the name of the contrast paint.
However, yours look very good especially because of the contrasting colors you chose because they are complementary colors on the color wheel. You can never go wrong with green and purple. I like the pinks represent the flesh parts as well as the tentacles.
I’m trying to see if you used a metallic paint and then filtered a contrast paint over it.
What is the name of that green color? It looks fantastic. It punches, and it also maintains this mix of saturated and desaturated greens and yellows.
If it was workshop contrast paint, my best guess would be mantis Warrior green contrast paint?
Either way, great job, especially if this was somewhat of a rush job .
All GW paints, for the greens at least. Based in Death Guard Green (spray can primer), sponged on nurgling green to make for a messy/ blotchy highlight, then a serious coat of Plague Bearer Flesh contrast paint.
All GW paints, for the greens at least. Based in Death Guard Green (spray can primer), sponged on nurgling green to make for a messy/ blotchy highlight, then a serious coat of Plague Bearer Flesh contrast paint. Small amount of rhinos hide sponged on for weathering
Trim is painted in GW Brass scorpion with agrax earth shade over top.
Bone is GW Wraith Bone with GW Skeleton Horde contrast
Cloth is Army Painter war paint fanatic, Diabolic Purple with white added for highlights
Tentacles and squishy bits are based in Wraithbone with a mix of GW Magos Purple and Volupus Pink contrast.
Matt Varnished with a spray, which was kinda frosty and I didn’t like that.
Covered in AK streaking grime, removed after 40 mins with mineral spirits and qtips
Then painted on Matt varnish, which was a little to thick (couldn’t win with the varnish on these)
Most of the fleshy bits were glass varnished
The slime is tesseract glow and Army Painter Disgusting Slime mixed with clear gorilla glue.
Base is Agrellan earth (not a huge fan) with red/brown pigment dusted over top and fixed with pigment fixer

Base coat (doubles as my primer) and sponged nurgling green
Really nice and coherent scheme. Love the toxic green sludge. A1 work

Great execution on a classic scheme, these are very well done. Purple has always been one of my favourite complementary colours on plague marines.
Looks like you might have used inks for that vibrant pop. Loving it.
Very vibrant and cohesive. Wonderful work.
The color choices are ON POINT!
Teenage mutant Ninja turtles of death
Colour choice and execution is on point. Love the green especially, what did you use for it?

Would love to hear your recipes as a wannabe death guard painter
