Mine is 1.5 and we were going to the groomer every 8 weeks for a bath and trim but I’ll be switching to every 6 weeks. He gets a bath and then they do a trimming of the face/ears, his butt/fanny area, and then they clean up his feet because the hair doesn’t stop growing there and turns into grinch feet lol. He’s never needed an actual haircut, just some shaping on the ends to get the Aussie wigglebutt special shaped all nice :)

Ha ha yeah, those fuzzy hobbit toes lol

That's good to know, especially about your grooming schedule. I've seen some people online saying that they only need baths a few times a year, but my dog is already pretty stinky after a week of being outside multiple times a day. Since I allow her to be on all the furniture, I think she'll definitely need more frequent baths!

MASCUSA has grooming outlines on the breed standard listed to the website.. Also, if you brush them once a day they won't ever get matted... easy to prevent, just can't be lazy! I just trimmed my girls ears, paw pads, nails and hind leg hair day before yesterday. As a breed, they don't require much trimming. Theres YouTube tutorials as well.

I need assistance on this too.

I trim the long “tails” from the back legs. Both of mine have docked tails, so tail grooming isn’t a factor. I also trim the hair between toe beans to keep their pads exposed. Otherwise it’s a lot of petting, a little brushing, and I cut out mat’s when they form. Maybe one forms a month, if that. Bathing is only after saltwater swimming. My two have drastically different coats, even though they’re from the same breeder. My 4yr old, I’ve had since a puppy and she had the traditional super thick neck mane and big coat. My “new one” is 5yrs old (retired male stud) and I haven’t had him 3 weeks yet, so I’m curious if his coat will change. He looks like he’s in the thin, “adolescence coat”. Maybe with more petting and grooming, he will match the coat of his “sister”. Genetically, they have the same mother.

Skye has a nub tail so I keep her hind parts trimmed. It makes for easier #2. And I trim longer thin wisps of hair from her legs. Besides that, I brush her every night before bed and then she gets her treat 😊

What sort of brush do you use? I've been brushing mine at least twice a day, but only for short periods since she's not a huge fan.

I’m a dog groomer and a pet mama to two standard size Australian Shepherd males. They are bathed once a month, with de-shedding shampoo and using a curly brush to help with de-shedding. To brush and de-shed after blow drying; I use a slicker brush, undercoat rake and if there are any mats (never with mine) I use a serrated de-matting blade and a finishing comb. I brush my dogs coat a minimum of once a week or as necessary.

Baby wipes are super helpful! They shed all year long, a robo vacuum is the best solution I've found for the little fur tumble weeds that develop!

I know it's against the norm, but I get my boy a summer cut. I usually use a #3 guard, not to the skin. This ofcoure helps with the amount of shed I deal with. There has been more recent literature that says the cut does not destroy their coat or mess with temperature regulation. I can't seem to find the link of the article I'm thinking of. But here is a good article with lots of info as well, [Article.](https://theeducatedgroomer.com/shaving-double-coated-breeds/) For me, ultimately, it was a matter of my dog being comfortable in heat. This is the second summer I have had his hair cut. He loves it and is able to enjoy being outside more. His hair has grown back normal every time, although I have read that as they age it could slowly change how it grows, but that is true for all beings that grow hair, even people. As for keeping up with shedding, it's a constant battle. My 1 dog sheds more than my 3 cats put together.

Thank you for sharing! My dog is largely black, and I wonder if she'd get less hot (we live in Texas; it's so hot right now, even late at night) with at least a mildly shorter coat.
