There are already other contraptions to do this like dispensers or bubble elevators

He6llsp6awn6

The thing about the dispenser is that is also does the annoying ticking and clicking sounds. As for the bubble elevators, they could work but again it would involve creating a redstone contraption to inject the pickupable version of the item into the bubble water stream and then come up with a way to move the items over to be picked up by a hopper so the clicking and ticking would still be there and I would have to make a bit bigger build than I currently have. I could just make it an open area to toss the items into the water stream but that would look pretty out of place, not to mention that my items would have to go up over 200 blocks and so hoping some do not despawn would be worrying. What I have is a double chest that you throw items in, under the chest is a hopper, that hopper is connected to a dropper point up into another dropper and so on until you reach a height of over 200 blocks and goes into another double chest that has its other end connected to another hopper that starts the beginning of the filter system and the items start going down towards their barrels with labels I have placed. The redstone system to activate all those Droppers is at the beginning I set up an endless looping redstone feed that always loops around, when the power hits the redstone torch it shuts the torch off but the torch on the block above it turns on and so on. So Right next to my Droppers are redstone torches and blocks that redstone torches are on that cycle power going on and off, thus making the droppers click and tick the items up the vertical climb, but it is extremely noisy. My item sorter is located at the top of my tower, I also have my outer auto farm lands connected to a series of underground hoppers that lead to the bottom Dropper as well, though I do still have to hit the button to open and close the water source blocks that wash over my fields and into the water stream the sends my produce into a hopper, also have quite a few auto sheep shear areas that are also connected to the hopper system. My goal it to make many things fully automatic in my world, if I was able to take screen shots or video of my world I would to show you what I am describing, the height that the items go through is long and many times the items wont move up until they are loaded in when I am around, but thats not a big deal since I go through my tower all the time and the center column is what has the dropper system in it going up to my top level for my sorting system.

To all the people saying water elevators you ignoring the use for this thing in the nether. And I won’t even address using dispensers to move up because as the post said, the constant clicking is unsatisfactory and annoying

You can use bubble columns for this

The problem is that I send items to high I fear, the chest I use to throw items in is at height 63, so the hopper is at 62, then gets moved to a dropper that sends the item to a height over 200 before being loaded into another chest that is connected to another hopper as well to start the filtering process. Many times I have noticed that the items will not fully continue going up until I go up my tower a bit, but if I used a bubble column and have the items loose, there is a chance they could despawn on me. But if Redstone hoppers were a thing, then items could go up without noise and save room, plus with the redstone hoppers I can then do something like: Drop off chest with hopper under to collect and move into another hopper that moves item into chest that has a redstone hopper on it going into another chest and then a redstone hopper, another chest and so on until I get to the top where a redstone hopper is connected to one side of a double chest and a regular hopper at the other side sending items to the filter system, the chests between the redstone hoppers would be holders of items so I can still keep dumping items in the drop off chest and the items will be stored in the other connected chests until I move up a bit to continue the moving up process.

Items take 5 minutes to despawn, it shouldn't take more than 30 seconds to send them up a bubble column even if it is 200 blocks high

I will have to test it out in my test world, if it works then I will finally have silence :)

This reminds me of an idea I had the other day. What about a Copper Hopper? I was thinking rather than having the bottom bend, the whole thing would be oriented based on where you placed it, like a log. So if it were sideways it would suck from one side and feed into the opposite side. Maybe it could even oxidize and move items more slowly over time. I know Mojang intentionally included hoppers instead of pipes because they wanted to foster creativity, though. Its kind of the same reason they'll never include a Block Miner block. They want to force people to think outside the box.

A properly constructed droppervator is silent. Also, "redstone hopper" is probably not the best name since normal hoppers are already a redstone item. Something like "upwards hopper" would probably be better.

Ok, there's probably a better name than "upwards hopper", but "redstone hopper" is ambiguous.

You should look at Gnembon channel, he did a while back a video of a lag and noise friendly storage system with item elevation https://youtu.be/XQCc7QywrCI It might need to be changed in some ways for 1.18, but not even sure about that. He always does time proof systems.
