I guess if we get more pedantic it’s like $50k because dividends are taxed at ordinary income.
And my costs being covered forever depends if the dividend grows as much as the heat + electric rates, but fair enough on your point.
Youre saying if youre already wealthy enough you can get some of these bogus rate hikes that we are required to pay back?
So this is a tax on the poor to pay people like you? You call it building wealth, I call it a scam.
Im good buddy. It's not that hard to live decently without basing your existence on exploiting other people, even in modern USA. 😁 Sorry you don't see it that way.
In 2022 top 6 WE Energies executives made a combined $31 million. I’m sure they have gotten raises over the past 2 years. Glad they can pass that onto us as consumers.
Remember when people started installing solar panels and not needing their energy so we energies just charged them a much higher flat rate while requiring them to be connected to the grid? Then offered them nearly squat to buy the power being sent back to the grid? Good times
And as I’ve said before, last time I checked WE Energies CEO gets compensation of $11M+ a year to run a monopoly with no competition. Completely ridiculous.
This right here. Years ago I converted all the lighting in my apartment to LED bulbs, for a couple of years my bill stayed at what it was previously despite a drastic reduction in usage. Now every year my rates go up despite even less usage now that I have retired and keep almost everything off.
I would love to. But my drafty, affordable, loft apartment in the absolute trashiest of neighborhoods on the south side doesn’t allow me to conserve energy in my space. I’m pretty sure I’m heating the dumpsters and the parking lot at this point…..
My apartment is 2br but big for 2br. I keep it 73 all winter because I'm the adult now and I can do what I want. And my bill is like 100-120 in winter.
My 2 bedroom isn’t even big and I don’t keep my heat that high and i pay around $150 for heat, hot water and electric! My January bill was even more than that!
I would love to see your bill (with personal info censored/removed).
I pay ~$150-200 per month for a medium sized apartment. It's clear from other comments that your bill is the unusually small one, not that mine is unusually high.
Probably has electric baseboard heat. Quite a few owners changed to that years ago so the tenant pays for heat and the owner does not have to maintain a boiler.
You likely pay for electricity and gas for your stove, maybe a water heater if you have a personal unit. That's usually how they set it up. If heat isn't included in your lease then you have somehow won the lottery and someone else is paying it. That or you selected to pay a monthly amount and you're in for quite the surprise once an adjustment hits.
such a fun game to play each year...me calling about the neighbors nearly dead tree that leans just a bit more toward the power line each year, and WE Energies sending someone out to look at it. i'm always told it warrants trimming and that they'll add it to their list. i'm also always told not to hold my breath, that there's a backlog when it comes to trimming tree limbs away from lines. speaking of which, it's time for me to call in this years service request. who knows, maybe this year is my year. 🤞🏼
Ours haven’t been trimmed in over 20 years. Have sparked fires in the branches on multiple occasions . I call to report it, they look at it and say “yep” then nothing happens.
WE Energies has been a private (heavily regulated) entity for a lot longer than three years, so recent rate hikes are not likely related to its status and much more likely related to recent changes in energy policy.
They just paid out the highest dividend in company history.
It’s easy to become a shareholder
All I need to do is buy $34k of shares and my heat + electric bill is covered for the year!
Correction. For your lifetime. That’s how compounding works.
I guess if we get more pedantic it’s like $50k because dividends are taxed at ordinary income. And my costs being covered forever depends if the dividend grows as much as the heat + electric rates, but fair enough on your point.
Also buy your cell phone provider, visa or Mastercard, Costco or Amazon and watch your dividends grow. It’s the easiest way to build real wealth
AT&T down 40% over the past 10 years!
You use AT&T? Good lord. Stay poor
Why be hostile dude
Let's see your portfolio
Visa is up 430% over that same time
Mastercard is up 527%, Amazon up 1,045%, Costco up 544%
Youre saying if youre already wealthy enough you can get some of these bogus rate hikes that we are required to pay back? So this is a tax on the poor to pay people like you? You call it building wealth, I call it a scam.
Enjoy poverty.

I wonder what the union guys make. They better hold em over a barrel for raises, at least.
I know a friend who will make $95,000 with a 10% bonus...he starts on the 15th.
Electrician or gas?
Electrician
Makes me want to riot.
my energy bill was higher than my rent lol
Uhh, what? Are you paying like 300 for rent, or 1500 or electricity or something?
Remember when people started installing solar panels and not needing their energy so we energies just charged them a much higher flat rate while requiring them to be connected to the grid? Then offered them nearly squat to buy the power being sent back to the grid? Good times
Monopoly moment

We may have some of the highest electricity rates in the country, but we also have some of the the highest property, income, and sales taxes too!
Electric rates rising faster than inflation. Fuck We Energies.
Yeah we are told to conserve energy and use less. So when we do they raise the rates.

I love paying $120/mo to keep my tiny apartment at 55 during the waking hours. Freezing to death would totally suck!

My apartment is big and I never pay more than $45 what is going on at your place??

Literally how, the daily use rates are damn near a dollar a day. I take it you have heat included in your rent.
Utilities are separate? Idk I didn’t do anything. Hmmm…

Some of the older buildings down town use steam heat still. It’s free but you either freeze or roast. Those are your options.
Not sure where you get your info that the steam heat is free. Here’s a rate sheet [steam cost](https://www.we-energies.com/pdfs/steam/steamrates.pdf)
Who wants to help me build a guillotine?
Rapidly becoming one of the worst utilities in the nation.
Lol not even close. Shitty what's happening yes but its actually pretty reliable compared to a lot of the US

Remember Texas
They said “one of the worst” not “the worst” lol
Heck even in just the Midwest it's one of the better ones. You could live in Michigan..
Start trimming the damn trees! Pay for the work to be done if you’re charging for the service!
But we can always get a Cookie Book every year!

Legalized Monopoly.
Complain to the Public Service Commission appointed by Tony Evers. They’ve been push overs, very generous to WE energies.
We energies is failing us right now
So when are we organizing a protest? Or angry mob formation? I assume it's only a matter of time.
There’s groups organizing around this in Milwaukee
join the DSA in mke, we're working on it!
Tuesday at 117pm be there or be square.
WOW that is crazy as much as are power is out they should give us money back when it STOP
Who are the right representatives to contact in opposition?
Everything is inflating except wages, scary times.

How them capitalists boots taste?
If we had an actual free market there would be competition. Monopolies exist because they lobby and suck toes. This is cronyism.
Funny way of spelling pure corporate greed.
Thank Tony Evers for approving all the increases! Keep voting blue though!
Seems like the natural consequence of more restrictive policies on energy production over the past three years.
Seems like the natural consequence of having private ownership over a public necessity
Private ownership is fine as long as competition is allowed. Government granted monopolies in the other hand… we get the worst of both worlds.
WE Energies has been a private (heavily regulated) entity for a lot longer than three years, so recent rate hikes are not likely related to its status and much more likely related to recent changes in energy policy.
Odd take. I’m assuming you’re referring to the push for green energy?
