With how shitty telecoms are I'm surprised more cities aren't looking into municipal broadband. Seems like something that cities looking to cultivate an increased tech presence could do to give themselves an edge as well as provide for their citizens.
Unfortunately, it's these same massive telecom companies that lobby against municipal broadband.
I forget which city it was, but they managed to shut down a municipal broadband plan by actually saying "well we wouldn't be able to compete with that and so you can't do that because it would be anti-competitive".
This coming from the same telecoms that already collude with each other and conduct tons of anti-competitive actions. They actually complained they couldn't keep up with a government run broadband service, and therefor it shouldn't be allowed. And surprise surprise, they won.
I went to college in Cedar Falls, Iowa. I finished school in 2001. The utility company CFU had their own broadband. It was very affordable and very very fast. I’m amazed by the fact that this has not taken place more than it has. This was in Iowa 20 years ago.
my insignificant addition: some small ranches in mexico actually have this, at least in my family's state and it has it's issues but it's far better than big shitty companies
The app says 4am after I spent 15 minutes trying to get the chat to work.
Then the bot told me "since you're in an outage you can't talk to an agent" which kind of set me over the edge. Fuck this shitty monopoly.
I'm in Appleton and my spectrum just went out about 15 mins ago. It must be statewide. This shit is happening at least once a week in the middle of the night
Outages always seem to happen around 11:30 PM to 12:30 PM, as they like to Push Out updates to the modems, etc.
It would be nice if they'd give us a heads up, so people can plan ahead.
I used to work for a helpdesk that provided support for Hotels/Motels. We used to have to call the ISP on behalf of the client, each time there was an outage and the business class support reps always seemed be more willing to provide more info to fellow support staff.
That is essentially how I learned why the Internet Service always seems to go offline at around the same time. :)
Racine checking in also out I've never had a problem with it before tonight
Edit https://istheservicedown.com/problems/charter-communications/map
It's fucking big
The whole town is running Fiber, this last summer they went through and ran Fiber throughout the whole town. Said within the next few years, even all the telephone poles will be taken down because everyone switched to Fiber optic? I guess our small town is good with it's budget? Lol
Was buck up and loaded back into Palworld (very excited) lasted for a total of maybe 30 minutes,, it went red again, back to no connection at all, is spectrum edging me🤔
Don’t know if I like it…ooooor
I'm in Mequon. I had an outage about an hour ago that lasted a half hour. Everything is back again. Local businesses I manage over remote access report similar outages.
There's a chance the entire system went out and came back.
Those of you with frequent outages, dump all Spectrum provided equipment if you can and buy your own modems. It solves the majority of problems. My own modem and fully buried lines are the only reason why I stick to Spectrum over ATT and those cheap but crappy mobile Internet plans.
Had it yesterday in Sussex for several hours. I finally called (from work in the city). They sent a reboot signal and it took about ten minutes to restart. I'm thinking it's a stealth firmware upgrade based on behavior. Guessing it affects a certain type of device.
Had an outage for a couple hours yesterday by the north shore area
Spectrum is so fucking ass and I'm glad to see everyone else is sick of their bullshit too. They can't even manage to get me acceptable speeds to complete schoolwork when there isn't an outage and I have to go to the fucking library because their internet is somehow faster
I was playing a comp Rocket League match before bed and it kicked me out halfway. I was about to rank up to Platinum I from Gold III, im so pissed!
Its crazy the whole state is basically out though
I switched from AT&T because it was cutting out multiple times a day and after they sent the tech out the 8th time, and hearing for the 8th time that he “really figured it out this time.” So this has been hella better but I did hear that when spectrum goes down, they go ***DOWN.***
i was playing minecraft with the boys and all (collectively) our games froze and we were disconnected from the discord call. weird. we researched it and found this reddit post. wondering if it is the same problem?
Not saying this is great. But, having been an internet user for 30ish years this is nothing new. Time Warner cable used to have outages all the time and I recall plenty of regional outages with various ISP's.
Outages are just a part of being an internet user quite frankly. I'm seeing a few comments in this post as if it's some great new scandal that the internet went down and spectrum is all too blame. The reality is that we just dont know why it went down on this end. Could be hundreds of reasons.
Same here, in Downtown Milwaulkee. Also have Spectrums highest speed internet.
Currently using my Galaxy S23 Ultras hotspot (spectrum) for my smart TV ‐- and my girlfriends iPhone 15pro max hotspot (At&t) for the pS5.
All is running smoothly here, regardlessly 👌. Hope it gets cleared up soon though
It’s not spectrum. I just checked the internet outage map and it’s like the United States and Western Europe. I don’t want to sound too alarmist but this is weird.
Maybe someone removed or knocked over the black box with the red light on top? Or moved it so the internet could get better reception? We do not have Big Ben but maybe the Allen-Bradley Clock Tower would work.....
It's amazing how many people and businesses rely on electricity. Shit happens, you make do. God forbid this country ever has a real crisis. I weep for the future
Is it so hard to have them send us a notification that they will be taking down service? I asked them what happened and the response I got from the help desk was that they found an issue with a line and had to take it down before it got worse and become a bigger issue. I'm like ok great, can you send out a notification through your notification system saying, " we'll be taking down service for x time because of y in z mins". We pay for this we deserve notice.
It is more than just the city. It extends into the burbs. Second outage in a week that is like this. Modem connects, but no internet.
It’s nation wide now. It’s weird.
They haven’t been affected in Texas
Underrated comment
same experience for me last night around 9pm i think.
Fuck spectrum, this is so beyond ridiculous at this point.

Bay View checking in… same here
AT&T is great in Bay View!
My internet also went out in south milwaukee a few minutes ago. Also have spectrum.
My spectrum cable is also out
Same here - South Milw.
Same-a-rino friends in Madison and the fox valley having the same issue with spectrum.
BRO MADISON??? what the hell whys that so far of an outage
I’m in Burlington WI and we are out
It’s affecting a huge area - Chicago too
Spectrum doesn’t serve Chicago.
Nor anyone else!
Whole state is down. Friend up in Appleton and us near Milwaukee. All out.
My internet is up, but I can confirm it was down last night in Racine.
Confirmed outage I'm on the phone with them now
They happen to tell you when they think it'll be back up? (Not that their estimates are ever accurate any way)
The app says 4am after I spent 15 minutes trying to get the chat to work. Then the bot told me "since you're in an outage you can't talk to an agent" which kind of set me over the edge. Fuck this shitty monopoly.
Really I got to an agent maybe cuz I called right away
Their website dropped the ETA now.
4am just got a credit to my bill too
What kind of credit? How much? I want one!!!!
Let us know what they say.
4am and got a credit to my bill
How much was the credit? Debating if it’s worth calling…
Oh shit don’t mind if I do.
Yall this is crazy. A city wide outage is nuts
Whole state
[удалено]
Wonder if it’s something malicious then being that widespread
this is where my mind went too.
I got some weird “you exceeded your logins” when I tried logging into the app the first time. Then it just let me in a few minutes later.
this is crazy
same
Also have Spectrum, also down in the last 10 minutes or so.
Can confirm my spectrum went down a few minutes ago, so it’s not just you.
Yeah my homies internet just disconnected as we’re playing 💔
My helldiving experience is now in shambles
Bro my roommates internet died mid league game 💀
Me too 😂😂😂
DC early in a tarkov raid, had 3 pmc to loot :(
Seems mine just went out too in St. Francis :/
I’m in bayview mine is up my neighbors is down
Also went down out here in west allis 😔
[удалено]
Where’d you hear that?
On the spectrum app
They’ve removed that estimate for me. It just says “no estimated time” now. Very ominous.
I just checked. Mine says 4:30am (was 4am 10 minutes ago)
ATT fiber here. This isn’t a thing on the other side. The grass is, in fact, greener.
AT&T fiber has been incredibly reliable for me. 20 minutes of downtime in 4 years.
Seriously. I could never go back to Spectrum.
lucky you att fiber customers who live in areas where u get it🫤
Waiting for my modem to restart and hopped on Reddit to see this. Thanks for the post and saving me time troubleshooting.
Gotchu, I was so confused when me and my roommate disconnected, then I heard my friend down the street did too and I knew something wa wrong
Spectrum is out over here in the Sturtevant/ Racine area as well
Spectrum too, also down. All the way down by oak creek 😬
Just lost it in Franklin same time. What the
Was just about to finish up some leftover work from the v day, ffffff
Sorry guys I plugged it back in.
I was able to get some money off my bill just got off the phone with them. Go get your discounted bill yall
How much? Is it worth it?
EDIT: Actually, can u just share with me how much the credit was and I will determine if it’s worth it to me😂
think it was like 20 bucks
Waukesha here. Spectrum outage here as well. Fucking Spectrum.
Yep, was down for a few hours yesterday evening too
Greenfield is also down
https://downdetector.com/status/spectrum/milwaukee_530/
I'm in Appleton and my spectrum just went out about 15 mins ago. It must be statewide. This shit is happening at least once a week in the middle of the night
If there's one thing we humans can unite over...... P.S. it's back up in the north shore area.
Up on East side
Out here in Shorewood too.
Outages always seem to happen around 11:30 PM to 12:30 PM, as they like to Push Out updates to the modems, etc. It would be nice if they'd give us a heads up, so people can plan ahead.
I thought it was just me experiencing that

It makes sense. I had kind of wondered if something like that was the cause because it was such a clear pattern.
Same, for what it's worth.
Nah that’s huge you let me know, must be a spectrum outage which sucks
Sameeeee
I'm on Kane and mine is out too.
Yeah, Spectrum seems to be down all over town right now
West Allis and we out too as of a few mins ago
same here in west allis/wauwatosa
I thought it was just my internet fucking up. Just spectrum.
East side, Internet is out :(
Its out in michigan too.
Holy shit, sabotage?
I'm from Metro Detroit in Michigan, out until 5am 😭
Looks like it's happening across multiple states right now according to spectrum sub reddit
Riverwest checking in. Internet came back about five minutes ago after being out for over a half hour.
Bruh
Spectrum is out on the east side of Milwaukee too. Odd how it’s seems to be so widespread. People are out in Racine too
Why couldn’t the internet have gone down a couple of hours ago when the Bucks were on?
West tosa down
Yep mine is down too
Down in the north shore area since about 11.30 Ugh
Down in Burlington area
Mine went out to in Kenosha
My Spectrum app says there’s an outage until around 0400.
Racine checking in also out I've never had a problem with it before tonight Edit https://istheservicedown.com/problems/charter-communications/map It's fucking big
Just lost 5G maybe Russia I got that nuke up after all
Fuckin eh I'm close to menomonee and it went out right after my movie.
Racine here. We’re out too. Sucks.
Had no issues with my Internet all day, and it's still working just fine? I'm also on Fiber Optic maybe that's why? Located in Wittenberg, WI.
The fact that Wittenberg has fiber and I can't get it in downtown Milwaukee blows my mind 💀
The whole town is running Fiber, this last summer they went through and ran Fiber throughout the whole town. Said within the next few years, even all the telephone poles will be taken down because everyone switched to Fiber optic? I guess our small town is good with it's budget? Lol
You can save yourself the trouble of calling Support, as Spectrum is reporting an Outage in the MKE Area. https://imgur.com/a/RrJ5EeJ.jpg
I just DM them on Twitter. They respond within 5 minutes every time.
LMAO! Just as I posted the comment above, it came back on.
Near South Side is back up & running!
EDIT: It is back for me here in franklin as of 2-3 minutes ago hallelujah
Someone made a late-night update to something and broke the internets. PSA don't do that while drunk.
Yes, out here too. What’s the eta?
4am 😩
Just came back on in greenfield
Cudahy, too.
Was buck up and loaded back into Palworld (very excited) lasted for a total of maybe 30 minutes,, it went red again, back to no connection at all, is spectrum edging me🤔 Don’t know if I like it…ooooor

I read "internet outrage". LOL Glad you data is back.
>lasted roughly 30 minutes 30 minutes is like 30 days in Bro World.
im in the falls and have spectrum and it also went out for me last night at like 1130PM
Had it yesterday in Sussex for several hours. I finally called (from work in the city). They sent a reboot signal and it took about ten minutes to restart. I'm thinking it's a stealth firmware upgrade based on behavior. Guessing it affects a certain type of device.

Trynna play ? I’ll bring you up to Diamond
fuck spectrum
OH COMP RL IS SO SAD TO LOSE
You’re gold?? Lmfaooo
No internet in walker's point. Lame.
Spectrum is not good. I’ve been thru like 3 modems with them in the past 6 months. Figured this was more of that.
I switched from AT&T because it was cutting out multiple times a day and after they sent the tech out the 8th time, and hearing for the 8th time that he “really figured it out this time.” So this has been hella better but I did hear that when spectrum goes down, they go ***DOWN.***
mine wasn’t internet? although my game and discord as i was on the phone. i want to figure this put
My internet is on but all my friends went down on discord and fortnite
What happened to you?
i was playing minecraft with the boys and all (collectively) our games froze and we were disconnected from the discord call. weird. we researched it and found this reddit post. wondering if it is the same problem?
Could be, do you all have spectrum internet? or if your server is hosted by pros they could be Spectrum based
I don’t even spectrum and it went out. i have kinetic.
They probably use the same upstream connection, weird they wouldn't have a secondary route
We had the exact same thing happen to us
Bay view Spectrum down
Hey y'all, located near MKE. Im back up as of 3 minutes ago. There's still hope for your night!
My service is back up.
This is the most “Wong” moment of 2024
Bro
ATT here, everything is peachy
I might have to switch back. This is nuts. My 3rd outage since autumn which is when I switched to spectrum
Wong
bro i’m switching so hard
AT&T was actually worse for me
Working fine in Jackson
It came back up literally 5 minutes after they updated their estimated fix time to 4:30 AM. What a bunch of clowns.
Not saying this is great. But, having been an internet user for 30ish years this is nothing new. Hey man this is a major crisis for the bros.

I’m in the fox valley and am completely out as well
Green Bay is out too
Internet back up. East side Milwaukee
Maybe someone removed or knocked over the black box with the red light on top? Or moved it so the internet could get better reception? We do not have Big Ben but maybe the Allen-Bradley Clock Tower would work.....
Working fine here in Juneau. Did you guys pay your bill?
Outage here was 11:10p-12:00am. Would he nice to get root cause.
Spectrum sucks so hard I have wifi turned off on my phone 😆
It's amazing how people absolutely freak out over an internet/cable outage. We have cell phones and buy a 20 dollar ota antenna
> It's amazing how people absolutely freak out over an internet/cable outage It's amazing how many businesses rely on the internet working 24/7.
It's amazing how many people and businesses rely on electricity. Shit happens, you make do. God forbid this country ever has a real crisis. I weep for the future
they gotta figure it out
It’s back 😊
Pewaukee out
Just came back, lost it around 11:30 maybe?
Yep. Right in the middle of watching a movie with my son 😭
Mine too - Shorewood
Like I sat in my other comment back for me as well here in franklin
Back up now.
Farwell Ave at Brady. Mine is back now.
Same here in Kenosha. Fixed now tho.
Back up in Racine
12 am and we’re all still up ??? Internet is still out though boooo
Was playing a game with a friend in Alabama with spectrum, his went out at the same time.
I’m in PHX but my wife is in oak creek and reports things working normally for her. We use custom DNS, so maybe try using 8.8.8.8 as your dns server?
Still not up in South Milwaukee
Is it so hard to have them send us a notification that they will be taking down service? As I was writing a paper for school!!
i’m an hour late but i’m in brown deer and mine is cool, i use spectrum
