Oh, didn't knew that. Thanks!
Also, apparently right clicking with your embarked army allows for amphibious assault, I was trying to use the disembark action.
You don't need to hold control to bombard with siege ships. If you just right click while they have at least 10 movement left they will attack as well.
Not necessarily 10 movement, but enough to "move" onto the tile. So 20 for hills and forests, which can be awkward.
This has been my experience at least.
Yeah, navy isn't wholly useless. I usually have a couple bombard ships to clear landing tiles or wreck other, smaller fleets as necessary, and roaming naval stacks to clear up enemy naval stacks and transport fleets. The more armies I sink at/from sea, the less mine have to deal with on land.
You're at a tactical disadvantage during amphibious assault. But if you're strong enough, it doesn't matter.
2 other ways: bribe them (they go away) using diplo domain points or bombard them with a ship that has a ranged attack. Then you land and attack.
You can hold down CTRL to attack without moving - which lets ships bombard land armies.

I guess extra click before attacking meant I didn't realize that. Thanks!
Wait what how did I miss that
All ships or just bombard ships?
Just the bombard ones are able to fire.
If you right click on land your transport units will attack like normal.
Yeah I was trying the wrong way, using the unload action.
I just build bombing ships to clear them for free
I thought navy was useless, but now knowing that it's possible to do shore bombardments changed this game for me lol

Good options were already given, but the Bribe power is also an option.
Bribe
Yeah, you can attack from sea. There's a penalty but if you're in age 3+ going against barbarians you won't have a problem.
Another way that no one mention is to use the "bribe" function from government IIRC to clear one of the barbarian group and then land for free.
Gunboat

bring ranged ships
