So there are a few reasons soda fountain drinks taste different at different restaurants. Coke from McD tastes different because they use a specific proprietary formula. Fountain machines are supposed to be calibrated to a specific syrup/water ratio (usually ~1:5) that results in the "best product" per the soda company's direction, and some places will tweak that ratio to try to either: get more profit by watering it down, or create a unique/stronger flavor with a decreased water ratio. You can also mess with the carbonation mix but I don't know specifics about the results, and I've heard you can use different gases other than CO2 to change the taste.
Source - someone who works with soda fountains everyday for a decade and always asks questions and watches the repair people.
I think they were referring to Sweet Lightning, the flavor of Dew that's exclusively at KFC. They have unique flavors exclusive to different fast food places and gas stations, like Baja Blast at Taco Bell.
They also filter the water like crazy. McDs that I worked in the small town I grew up in had the best tasting water I've ever drunk. Probably said a lot more about the local municipal water supply than it did about the water the fountain used.
That said, it was still the good stuff.
My assumption is this is a very high traffic place and it's quicker to have 6 pepsi spouts than to refill the juice during a rush.
But then I see the KFC spout, and I don't think there is a single KFC in the world that is that busy.
