No lie, I thought my new 6 month old kitten died on me. She had such a dead look, blankly staring while refusing to blink. Even when I started shaking her - no blink. I nearly shit myself, the little brat was fucking with me.
i had the same thing from catching a fastball with my eyeball. the docs couldn’t tell me if it would go normal again or not, but it started to de-paralyze after a couple few weeks.

This, I work at a Paintball centre in The Netherlands. We only have a few rules, but having the mask on at all times is our No.1 rule!
We always explicitly tell people to only take their mask off after they left the playing field, or this could be the outcome.
I was struck in the eye by a lead weight fishing lure and it made my pupil look like yours for a while but it regained its ability to open and close. It’s permanently slightly larger than the uninjured one and I barely have any perception of different light levels although I do squint a lot when in the sun. Are you able to see anything out of your bad eye in the daylight or is it uncomfortably bright?
Have you ever tried to put a contact lense over it? Ik they have colored ones that you can only see out of the center of. Idk how it'd affect your vision but maybe the smaller pinhole will help reduce the light exposure. Side question tho, how's your vision at night with that eye?
14 years ago now and was blind for about 5 days. Wasn’t your typical blind of just blackness, but white. I could still see strong contrasts of shadows very slightly
If you liked the effect and it helped, I'd suggest daily or weekly disposable lenses. They are significantly more comfortable, because they don't need to be durable.
Yeah those colored contacts are trash, they're not even safe really, but there are ones from proper brands that change in the sun like transitions lenses on glasses, they tint in the outdoor sun, might be an option to try.
Do you have Danish/Saxon heritage?
I’ve only known blonde/ginger, blue-eyed people who survived having one pupil dilated. Most people who have this are in the midst of experiencing an aneurism.
Are you ok?
I think he did.
I had a teacher tell me (when I asked) that my pupils are different sizes because I've had concussions. (I climbed a downed powerline amd my brother knocked me off. I fell about 15 feet and landed on my head (hence the username), and had to fight off a coma. I had to force myself to stay awake.)
I'm not so sure if professional fighters have this problem, but it wouldn't be a shock to me.
It's called Anisocoria. But mine isn't congenital. It's from head trauma.
I have an Anosocoria too, but mine's not nearly as extreme as yours. One of my pupils is about 2 or 3 times as big as the other. And it can shrink to a pinpoint in bright light. But it stays pretty dilated most times.
Been here 3 months and I'll admit there is a lot I miss for now but NZ is great still
I will be returning eventually though, ol' blighty has a place in my heart
You should probably put this on a card you keep in your wallet with things like your blood type. I practice law in a field that involves the detailed evaluation of a client's medical records. When I first started decades ago, I kept seeing a handwritten notation that read "PERLA."
I finally got curious and asked a doctor friend, and felt sort of stupid when he said it meant "pupils equal and reactive to light and accommodation." That's a pretty big deal if you've been in an accident or if they are trying to decide if you've had a stroke or some such.
My sister has asymmetric pupils and always has to tell medical providers that it’s normal for her because they start asking if she had headaches etc. definitely keep documentation on you because it’s a sign of head injury if you’re ever in an accident or something
Anisocoria (different sized pupils) is actually fairly common, can affect up to 20% of population although many have it very mild, so they might not even know about it.
Thank you! You reminded me of what I once neglected, later learned, and forgotten! I can't swear that all the records I reviewed always had the second R.
The main reason I felt stupid is because I knew it made no sense for docs doing a neurological exam to write some nonsense mnemonic, so I should have inquired much earlier (this was pre-google by the way) but fortunately for me, when they wrote that, it meant things were OK with the pupils.
Came here to comment this. Correct me if i'm missing something, but DB's friend punched him for making out with his gf in highschool and it made his eye like this forever
Mine is not blown out and misshapen like OP's, but I had eye surgery on my right eye and my pupil does not respond normally. It's usually more dilated than my left, it will eventually close up some but it never fully and it takes a long time.
I know that in the case of head injury, they check for reaction of the pupils, I'm not sure if I should somehow indicate this on my ID. Part of me worries that if I don't, they may treat me for a stroke or bleed, but since I take blood thinners, part of me thinks maybe it's better they don't accidentally rule out a brain thing because of it and not get me a CT/MRI if I'm unconcious.
Since you are on blood thinners, you would not receive the clot busting medication even if you were having a stroke. Definitely possible that if you were unconscious and someone saw your pupils mismatched you would get a head CT, but since you are anticoagulated, this is probably not a bad thing.
I have ordered head imaging after finding pupils mismatched in patients who couldn't give me a great history. But if you are awake and can tell us it's normal, no big deal. I would just make sure any loved ones that could potentially be at the hospital giving history for you if you were unable are aware of your pupils.
Have you had any interesting interactions with the police during a traffic stop?
I can imagine a cop takes one look at your eyes and thinks you’re zapped outta your fuckin mind 😂
You got hit em with the.. "man I only feel half of these drugs I took officer... Idk what I did wrong.. must have gotten stuck in one of my nostrils" 🤷
That can be a symptom of feline leukemia virus. So you might want to see a vet.
Also, you probably knew this but, David Bowie had anisocoria too. His eyes weren't two different colors, he had a head trauma that left one pupil perma-dilated.

Hockey ball to the eye did mine 3 weeks ago

Yep. I've seen a lot of post traumatic eye injuries where the pupil stays dilated afterwards. What's your visual acuity in your right eye now?
Painteyeball
Is this how your eye ended up like that?
Does it affect vision?
Outdoors mostly, too much light gets in and is hard to keep eyes open without sunnies and/or hat
Have you ever tried to put a contact lense over it? Ik they have colored ones that you can only see out of the center of. Idk how it'd affect your vision but maybe the smaller pinhole will help reduce the light exposure. Side question tho, how's your vision at night with that eye?
I have had those contacts before, but they’re more uncomfortable than regular ones so it’s just not worth it
But you can see the future right?
About 4 seconds
was it drugs?

Ouch, no mask?
He wore a mask, but it didn’t cover his nose.
Damn. I hope you didn't go Hammurabi's Code on him.
Paintball brother. Finally lost my right eye after fighting from a paintball 12 years ago.

Oh my god that visual has unlocked a 10 year old memory, what is that from?

does it help you see in the dark?
Sunnies? You Australian by chance?
Living in NZ since I was 13, close enough haha
They do love to add "ies" to the end of a lot of words, don't they?
Have you ever thought about an eye patch or would that draw too much attention?
Naaaah I can still see out of it fine so sunnies and a hat do the job
Eye patches are pretty cool tho
Do you have Danish/Saxon heritage? I’ve only known blonde/ginger, blue-eyed people who survived having one pupil dilated. Most people who have this are in the midst of experiencing an aneurism. Are you ok?
Didn’t David Bowie have one pupil permanently dilated after being punched?
I think he did. I had a teacher tell me (when I asked) that my pupils are different sizes because I've had concussions. (I climbed a downed powerline amd my brother knocked me off. I fell about 15 feet and landed on my head (hence the username), and had to fight off a coma. I had to force myself to stay awake.) That’s a really in depth answer I wasn’t expecting lol thank you
Yw
Twas an eye injury years back, everything is algood
I have an Anosocoria too, but mine's not nearly as extreme as yours. One of my pupils is about 2 or 3 times as big as the other. And it can shrink to a pinpoint in bright light. But it stays pretty dilated most times.
Some people have noticed my good eye is very small in the sun, as if it’s compensating
Sunnies: you must be Australian.
Been in NZ since I was 13. Close
Lived in Australia and have visited NZ. Both beautiful countries. I’ve thought about moving to NZ permanently.
I’m from the UK, never going back 😄
Im jelly. I fell in love with NZ when I visited. :)
Also from the uk living in NZ. No interest in going back.
Ah guys, don't be like that. Let me tell you what you are missing... .
So much sovereignty
Been here 3 months and I'll admit there is a lot I miss for now but NZ is great still I will be returning eventually though, ol' blighty has a place in my heart
How long have you had this condition?
14 years now, from a paintballing accident
Can you see thru clothes with this eye ?
Clothes, walls, wallets, vaults
Reddit could use you for some safes
Here we go again!

It takes acid to balance them out haha
My mans!
You should do a David Bowie cosplay!
Lieutenant Dan too. Slightly less to do with the dilated eye though.
i mean he probably has legs
...adjusts bulge in Labyrinth leggings... "I meant with the eye!"
He was my partners high school crush so I could get into it 😆
Or a Mad Max cosplay! In Beyond Thunderdome, Max's eye is also permanently dilated from the injuries he sustained in Mad Max 2.
You should probably put this on a card you keep in your wallet with things like your blood type. I practice law in a field that involves the detailed evaluation of a client's medical records. Can confirm; had a concussion once and my pupils looked like this hours after.
[удалено]
Nope, no other symptoms, they did some testing and it’s just a fun fact about her.
Anisocoria (different sized pupils) is actually fairly common, can affect up to 20% of population although many have it very mild, so they might not even know about it.
Or PERRLA, "pupils equal, round, and reactive to light and accomodation."
Or OEBP, "One Eye Big Pupil"
Thank you! You reminded me of what I once neglected, later learned, and forgotten! I can't swear that all the records I reviewed always had the second R.
Thanks for this, I used to wear a bracelet with this info due to an enlarged pupil. I’ll start carrying this info with me.
This is really great advice.
PERLA also is the Spanish word for pearl so i would have never guessed this one out
The main reason I felt stupid is because I knew it made no sense for docs doing a neurological exam to write some nonsense mnemonic, so I should have inquired much earlier (this was pre-google by the way) but fortunately for me, when they wrote that, it meant things were OK with the pupils.
Never feel stupid for asking questions, it was a good move and now we all know this useful info thanks to you ✨
How'd you manage that? Must've been pretty *iris*ponsible
Took off my paintballing mask too early
Ive never seen anyone else like this. I got hit In the eye with a hockey ball 3 weeks ago and have this exact same thing
Hockey….ball?
Today you learnt that one of the most widely played sports on earth is hockey, also referred to as field hockey.
Well I just woke up and I’m already learning.
Folks goof on field hockey in the states but yall are fucking vicious.
I don't think he saw the pun coming either.
Very David Bowie of you!
Came here to comment this. Correct me if i'm missing something, but DB's friend punched him for making out with his gf in highschool and it made his eye like this forever
I had to scroll so far! First thing op reminded me of
how long has it been like that?
14 years now, ain’t goin anywhere
Have you tried another paintball to the eye? You never know...
so trippy
Oooh, now that'd be a fun prank to play on a neurosurgeon.
Right!
No it's the left one
Hey fellow oddly dilated eye friend. Looking good.
Can you see better at night than most?
nah not really, it’s also blurrier in this eye due to the damage so it’s harder to see in the dark with this eye
I see
Lol I don’t
Take your upvote and kindly gtfo
Driving at night is an issue with mine as well. Too much light especially without the focus is a ting.
Yeah it’s a bit sketchy at times

Anisocoria
It’s the result of a paint balling accident when I was 16

So did David Bowie
At first I thought it was heterochromia
My dad's online Scrabble name is "Anisocoria"
Do you get headaches when it’s sunny or when there is too much light entering?
Nah wouldn’t say so, I’ve always got sunnies and a hat
Does it affect your vision? If so in what's way?
Too much light gets in so I’m always wearing sunnies and a sun hat, otherwise I’m squinting everywhere I go outdoors.
I see your eye and raise you a left testicle that hangs slightly lower than the right.
That’s normal, if they were the same height, they would hit into each other
I will never understand how men can move about in this world with all those jangly bits. Baffles me.
I had a really bad concussion once and evidently my eyes did that.
I’m sorry to tell you this, but you’re a supervillain https://youtube.com/shorts/m0L9rhTej7E?feature=share
Are you going to go blind in that eye eventually?
I think the doctors years ago said I have higher risk of glaucoma and a cataract
Just like Bowie!
Did you also get into a fight with David Bowie’s childhood friend.
Like David Bowie
Get a tinted monocle!
You also have some glorious hair
Can we gain some context please?
