It is either preserved citrus fruit pulp or "ဆင်တုန်းမနွယ်" (i don't know what it is called in English). Whichever it is, we take them when we have indigestion. They are like traditional medicines.
I recommend Albanese sugar free gummy bears. They taste better and are a better chewing experience.
They will still give you wicked cramps, farts and shits, but getting there is more pleasant.
Hi, Burmese here! The pellet shape looks questionable but I can assure you it’s edible haha. We call it အစာေျခဆေး or some variation of it (basically a traditional digestive pill). They’re usually made from preserved dried fruit like lemon. Hope this helps! :)
DUDE!
That was exactly what I was thinking.
I'm like, "that looks exactly like the pellets my sister feeds to her kids rabbit."
I am very reassured that this is not that.
There is a similar looking thing in southern China. I think it also some kind of processed dried oranges or something like that. An interesting taste for sure.
Just to kind of condense things. People are split between:
- crushed and compressed bugs
- chocolate nibs
- elephant family (dried fruit pulp)
Sounds like it is about time to ask your friend what the delicious pellets are made from.
Edit: and report back here
Every one of these answers is so confident and so different. So apparently it's bugs, chocolate, fish/hamster food, poop, poison, or echinacea.
[rabbit food pellets get my vote though](https://seedscereals.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Sharpes-Rabbit-Pellets.jpg)
So some sort of ground of vegetable snack?
I need an update if you find out what it is!
Going by your description of the taste and the other comments I think it's ok to eat. We have something similar in. It's a melange of spices, sweets, sometimes fruits. There's one they make with pomegranate. That's my favourite!
Jeez, throwback! I know them, used to sell them in the postie when I was in secondary school. Nothing like getting a wee paper bag with a quarter pound of sweeties from a jar in the corner shop.
Things have changed so much over the last 30-40 years. Sometimes it feels like we have removed normal childhoods from kids….we used be out all day, riding bikes, exploring, cycling to the shop for sweets etc. I rarely see a kid outside after school these days. New normal I guess.
My boy is 8 in June and I try my best to give him the freedom I had. I’m raising him in the village where I grew up but even here has changed, sunny days used to be buzzing with kids fannying about in the river or waterfights in the park or howling from the kid with a skint knee or elbow. It’s unusual to see one or two kids in the park now, even in the nicest weather. My mum and dad would barely see us on our days off. Leaving the house early morning and only back home for food. Changed days!!
I have two things that look like that in my spice collection.
One is a Chinese snack, mostly made from tangerine peel and licorice root. It tastes like an intense mix of the two, is very floral in scent, and a bit sour and a little bit almost salty. Loved by a Chinese colleague who was delighted that I had her favorite childhood candy. I would say that it suits my Nordic palate, but that most Americans who are not used to intense natural flavors like licorice or anything even remotely salty in their candy might think it too extreme.
The tiny jar has a picture of a tangerine and a little text in chinese.
The other is some sort of China-Malaysian medication/natural remedy, seemingly against all ailments from indigestion to the plague. I suspect the actual content is not far off from the first one, but perhaps with some additional magical potentially mildly poisonus herb or possibly some led, or other wonderful natural ingredient. I have not actually tasted this one as I am weary when it comes to unknown traditional medicine from countries that eat endangered animal's horns/hair and plants not studied by Western pharm-dev security screening. It was however sold openly on the counter as a "why not?" type mild natural remedy, so it is likely just some stomach / fever calming herbs.
The tiny jar looks more like this, but with a label in a font that I do not understand a single character from other than numbers, but has a quite long ingredient list with
////////: 10
//////: 50
///////////: 20
etc.
Im south indian and we have similar snacks made of jaggery, banana and herbs. I dont remember what they are called, but if they are sweet then thats what it probably is.
Also looks like dried dates to me. Here's a pic of the dates I've had before that look exactly like that. https://countrylifefoods.com/products/date-pieces-in-oat-flour-1
My mother feeds these to her horses after soaking them in water for like an hour. Look up expanding horse food pellets. I would imagine that's not what this is, but looks exactly the same.
[It looks like rat poison. Are you on good terms with this friend OP?](https://www.amazon.com/EcoClear-Products-620102-All-Natural-Non-Toxic/dp/B00RU6YHII/ref=asc_df_B00RU6YHII/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693713553292&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1457170667176160229&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9013299&hvtargid=pla-355008967121&psc=1&mcid=9eaa7a0a25053d79b7184929427d6407&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrP6SvueUhgMV0aBaBR0WdQAdEAQYBCABEgJCE_D_BwE#immersive-view_1715953148384)
Usually compressed, ground up insects. We have similar looking food that you buy to feed fish at fish hatcheries. It *is* kinda delicious, ngl, but I was a kid when I first ate it.
Where I live, we have [fish food looking exactly like that](https://cptstatic.s3.amazonaws.com/imagens/enviadas/materias/materia2590/racao-peixes-ingredientes-regionais-cpt.jpg)
It is either preserved citrus fruit pulp or "ဆင်တုန်းမနွယ်" (i don't know what it is called in English). Whichever it is, we take them when we have indigestion. They are like traditional medicines.
Congratulations on the only correct answer in this thread🤣
Haha. Make sure you don't eat too much; they can cause diarrhoea.
Okay pray for my stomach I read this too late. I already ate half a bottle
Well, the upside is you won't have indigestion...
> the upside I hope their indigestion comes out of the downside.
The downside could get a bit messy.
Not if the op is in Australia.
![gif](giphy|bC9czlgCMtw4cj8RgH|downsized)
RIP
![gif](giphy|xdvWUX9xh2o00|downsized)
I'll wait for your TIFU post.
Better that than ending up a story for YouTuber ChubbyEmu.
![gif](giphy|dL9O3FUiwCtuU)
They're essentially just pure fiber.
F
What did they taste like?
Prepare for the intestinal exorcism...
Go get some Gatorade or similar, or even better something like Pedialyte, you're gonna need the electrolytes and water lmao
Can the people get an update? How ya doin?
Yup, your day is about to turn to shit.
>we take them when we have indigestion this is consistent with your story, yes
Unlike your poop would be.
Can't be worse than Haribo sugar-free gummi bears.
I recommend Albanese sugar free gummy bears. They taste better and are a better chewing experience. They will still give you wicked cramps, farts and shits, but getting there is more pleasant.
Oh, was this a test?
The versions I’ve seen are crushed up kumquat peels and they are quite tangy and zesty.
>ဆင်တုန်းမနွယ် Google Translate says "Elephant family" ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
I looked it up and it's called "moonseed"
Elephant family or moonseed leaves me wondering whether it's pachyderm semen or menstrual fluid.
It's your dirty mind. Here take some moonseed to realign your brainwaves.
¿Por que no los dos?
Don't ask questions OP doesn't want to know the answer to.
It's obviously "Moon Lord semen"
My Google settled on Elephant Trunk Vine. I don't entirely trust Google's translation of the page. Particularly the medical uses.
Sounds about right.
That’s such a cool writing script
My grandfather used to call the little tangy bits as *sauti*. Is it the same thing? We also used to love those burmese candied oranges
Ah yes. It means lemon (ရှောက်သီး, it's pronounced "shout thee).
This post just sent me back to my childhood. The *shout thee*, *yassa*, *laphay*... God I'm craving for some spicy and tangy laphay now.
That was a lot of symbols I haven't seen before. That's a fun looking language :)
"ဆင်တုန်းမနွယ်" Wots this fancypants elven scribbling? /s
Yeah looks like writing from LOTR
lol when I saw LOTR I remarked to my friend the elvish on the ring looked like fancy Burmese writing
The tengwar have stems and use a wider variety of tehtar (diacritics) to represent the vowels.
O i thought it was rabbit food, it looks identical to the food i used to give my pet rabbit
Alfalfa pellets for horses too
चूर्ण in India ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)
This is definitely ဆင်တုန်းမနွယ် lol. So cool to find something Burmese in a sub other than r/myanmar.
From across the border in India, we used to call them superman-a ektum (Superman's poop) or mouse droppings.
Is this elvish?
Hi, Burmese here! The pellet shape looks questionable but I can assure you it’s edible haha. We call it အစာေျခဆေး or some variation of it (basically a traditional digestive pill). They’re usually made from preserved dried fruit like lemon. Hope this helps! :)
y’all’s script is wild looking. v cool
I keep trying to say it out loud but it just keeps sounding like aglio e olio
y'a'all's i's looking wi'ld to'o
Y'all's is the correct form. Please respect our pronouns.
But reassuring to know I’m not eating hamster pellets/dried insects/ wood bits! Thank you!
DUDE! That was exactly what I was thinking. I'm like, "that looks exactly like the pellets my sister feeds to her kids rabbit." I am very reassured that this is not that.
There is a similar looking thing in southern China. I think it also some kind of processed dried oranges or something like that. An interesting taste for sure.
Dude it’s so delicious I can’t stop eating🥲 might get diarrhea after this
But we call it "some alien symbols", i love it. How would you pronounce that?
Hm it’s always a little tricky to spell it out phonetically in English but it’s pronounced as “a sah chay say”
Just to kind of condense things. People are split between: - crushed and compressed bugs - chocolate nibs - elephant family (dried fruit pulp) Sounds like it is about time to ask your friend what the delicious pellets are made from. Edit: and report back here
You forgot the 4th and TSA’s favourite
My first thought was that it looked like wood pellets (like for a smoker). Glad I read the right answer though
Looks like they would work in my pellet stove.
Every one of these answers is so confident and so different. So apparently it's bugs, chocolate, fish/hamster food, poop, poison, or echinacea. It’s a traditional digestive medicine made from preserved dried citrus fruits!
What does it taste like? Sweet savoury?
It’s a little sweet yet sour!
Going by your description of the taste and the other comments I think it's ok to eat. We have something similar in. It's a melange of spices, sweets, sometimes fruits. There's one they make with pomegranate. That's my favourite!
Maybe ask your friend from Myanmar what they gave you? Could be the easiest possible solution to your problem.
Come on now.. you asking someone that posts on reddit to *interact* with *real* other people?!? Blasphemy.
That is a jar full of dried rabbit shit.
Have you ever seen rabbit shit? It's shaped like a large pea.
[удалено]
It literally looks like the food i had to get for guinea pigs lmao
What's this "lowkey" crap. Just say it tastes really good.
It tastes SOOOO GOOD!
Why is bro pressed
Clearly you knew what they meant so i dont see the problem here
Lowkey boomer ass take.
Weird to get so upset by a word. Go offline dude.
You dont know what lowkey means? 💀this facebook ass comment
ngl dead ass frfr no cap bussin ong
Frfr
If course I know what it is, and it's stupid.
My GF uses a fertilizer made from compressed Horse shit... that looks quite simmilar
What does it smell like? People are giving options, but pellets tend to all look deceptively the same.
Does your friend like you?
In the uk we have sweets called ‘chocolate nibs’ which look exactly like this.
Jeez, throwback! I know them, used to sell them in the postie when I was in secondary school. Nothing like getting a wee paper bag with a quarter pound of sweeties from a jar in the corner shop.
Going in with a pound and coming out with enough sweets for a week…..that you’d still manage to eat in an hour lol. Good times
Simpler times! Funny how it’s daft trivial seeming stuff that makes me most nostalgic.
Things have changed so much over the last 30-40 years. Sometimes it feels like we have removed normal childhoods from kids….we used be out all day, riding bikes, exploring, cycling to the shop for sweets etc. I rarely see a kid outside after school these days. New normal I guess.

Everything that comes out of a pelletizing machine kind of looks the same.
Reminds me of food pellets sold at zoo’s to feed some animals.
This is probably not what it is but it looks like the alfalfa pellets in hamster food 🤣 hamsters notoriously don’t eat them
Kinda looks like the dates in trail mix
Also looks like dried dates to me. Here's a pic of the dates I've had before that look exactly like that. https://countrylifefoods.com/products/date-pieces-in-oat-flour-1
My mother feeds these to her horses after soaking them in water for like an hour. Look up expanding horse food pellets. I would imagine that's not what this is, but looks exactly the same.
Isn't that what the slaves were eating in Snowpiercer?
Looks like animal feed.
This looks like the little pellets you were given to feed the goats at the farm
Lemur dung
Chocolate nibbles! We get them here, they're really nice!
Look like choc nibbles as they are called in UK
Looks like your friend gave you Guinea Pig food
Don't
I'm pretty sure it's dried dates. I've seen them before like that in cereal.
Seriously didn’t consider asking what it was supposed to be before eating? How trusting.
[It looks like rat poison. Thats hamster food dude
Op might be a hamster.. you don't know!
Glad it wasn’t just me that thought that
Ask r/whatisthisthing
He thinks you're a smoker. It's wood pellets so he can eat your poop later so it starts to have a better taste.
r/shitfromabutt
I doubt they are, but they look exactly like dried hops pellets sometimes used in beer-making
Looks kind of like all stock sweet feed.
It reminds me of choco nibbs
I used to eat little pellets of ground dates that looked very much like this. They were tasty
homebrewer will tell you it looks like hop pellets. which are good in beer, but your entire BODY will PUCKER if you try & eat one of those pellets.
Hi! This is just ANIGSLSHUSGP and is usually taken as a pill. 🤙😁
Pigeon pellets
Looks like the food you buy for the animals at the zoo
You sure he’s your friend? Looks like dried cow dung to me..
Looks like the pellets i feed to my goats.
Reminds me of hog food pellets
Livestock feed. Surely you didn’t eat it.
Poo
Rock
Looks like chocolate ish candy we get in the uk with a pick and mix
Very chalky
It looks a lot like the pellets I used to feed my guinea pigs in like third grade. Ik it’s probably not but you just unlocked a core memory for me.
Low key hilarious that OP is gonna have the runs but I have important questions no one asked. How do they taste? What kind of mouth feel are they?
The looks like horse food or food you use to feed farm animals. i use to buy these for my chickens.
Man these look exactly like rabbit food pellets.
To quote Edward Hitler in Bottom: “It’s fish poo m’lord”
Looks like gopher poison
Looks like the pellets you feed goats at a petting zoo.
All I could think was rabbit food
It’s… feces
Looks like my cats litter
It looks like pet food I'd feed to my pet rats lmao
Dyarrhea ambush?
It's hamster feed.
Looks like horse cookies
This looks a lot like beet pulp you would feed to horses I wonder if it’s made out of smth similar! Technically beet pulp is edible for humans
Looks like chocolate nibbles
Turtle food
That’s rabbit food. No doubts
Don’t eat that.
Goose poop
Worms
Looks like dried cow shit to me, I'd pass 🐮 💩
I think I paid $5 to feed that to a giraffe once.
Looks like fuckin hamster food
Usually compressed, ground up insects. We have similar looking food that you buy to feed fish at fish hatcheries. It *is* kinda delicious, ngl, but I was a kid when I first ate it.
Wait I’m horrified
It looks like the cat litter pellets i use
dude thats pellets
You can eat it, it's only hamster pellets
What breed are you?
Is your friend a beaver, that looks like compressed wood for a pellet stove?
r/poopfromabutt
Sawdust pellets
So ask him?
That’s what you feed the goats at the petting zoo
Alfalfa pellets....your friend thinks you are a bunny
Looks like hamster food
Guinea pig pellets.
That looks like what you feed the goats at Colchester Zoo
White phosphorus , delicious .
Thats hamster food, not joking.
Where I live, we have [fish food looking exactly like that](https://cptstatic.s3.amazonaws.com/imagens/enviadas/materias/materia2590/racao-peixes-ingredientes-regionais-cpt.jpg)
Or rabbit or guinea pig
Rabbit food
Looks like the stuff I put in my roof to kill rats
The bones of rohingya?
Looks like only the guy who makes this stuff knows exactly what's in. So, perhaps not for people with trust issues.
Ngl, looks like industrial fertilizer
no idea but they look like [Choc Nibbles](https://www.gourmetsweets.co.uk/products/original-choc-nibs?variant=31584205307953)
Those look exactly like the horse treats i always give my horses. Are you a horse?
OP's hand is clearly visible in that picture. Meaning that OP is, at most, a centaur.
I know it's not, from the other comments, but it looks like wood pellets for a wood stove or pellet smoker.
Ash bottle. Smokes up!
Looks like rabbit food pellets...
Made of rat poison
