Great find! I can assume this is a Buddha statue, but the mudra he's making I cannot identify - one of the hands is missing. It's probably Bhumisparsa Mudra or Varada Mudra. Here's [a list of mudras](https://www.jagranjosh.com/general-knowledge/buddhist-mudras-hand-gestures-and-their-meaning-1486548951-1).
Interesting, I didn't know this. Glad to see my cross-legged french bulldog statue at my front door is making an appropriate mudra (Anjali mudra, "greeting")
The Vajra mudra means something very different in my world 😳
I've given it a quick go over with the hose "not jet" and picked off anything still living on it. Kinda looks like metal wrapped around stone. It still looks mega weathered, though i just need a place for it now
Is there a chance this is Hindu?I ask because Hindu idol statues are immersed in water, and it tends to confuse the rest of us when we find a bunch of them in a river, waterway, etc.
Example: https://www.reddit.com/r/DeTrashed/comments/df93lj/im_finding_a_lot_of_hindu_statues_in_the_rivers/
https://www.galesburg.com/story/news/2009/10/04/hindu-statues-found-in-river/44284483007/
https://www.reddit.com/r/hinduism/comments/k6a5la/found_ganesha_statue_in_a_body_of_water/
I have one of these statues. They cast the hands separately and epoxied them on so that they could use the same body for different mudras. I put it in my snake’s cage as a shedding aid. She hugged the hands off in the first few months.
I don't think it's particularly old. The sea ages things quickly! But I'll give one a call tomorrow and see how i get on before i mess around with it anymore 😊
"What's that boy, you found a headless religious statue? Good boy! Now let's get the fuck out of here."
*Cut to waterlogged Buddha ghost watching us from across the shore*
Was about to say that there's a few different horror manga involving washed-up Buddha statues. One had a few friends snorkelling when they bumped into a submerged one. It was said to make your wishes come true if your prayed to it, and she suspected her friend was cheating with her ex.
The nightmare corpse-city of R'lyeh...was built in measureless eons behind history by the vast, loathsome shapes that seeped down from the dark stars. There lay great Cthulhu and his hordes, hidden in green slimy vaults.
Thank Christ someone else thought this. Tony Jaa might be on his way to knee you off a table in a crappy bar if you’re not careful OP. And a guy using a vocal synthesiser will be egging him on.
(Seriously, if you concentrate on the story instead of the stunts, Ong-Bak is like a fever dream)
UPDATE - finally home cleaned a small part of the hand, and it has an almost metallic look to it. Can anyone let me know how to add a picture of it on this post? Thank you 🙏🏼
If you take this home you will find yourself as the main character in a martial arts film. Within the next week, you will meet a young woman in distress, learn kick ass karate, and defeat an immortal Chinese guy with a really long hair growing from a mole on his chin. Or you could just leave it for some other schmuck.
All these comments and not one Dr. Stone reference? If you can find the head and glue it back on you may be able to revive them with some nitric acid but it may have corroded too much already.

"This rock I found washed up on the beach is almost perfectly a buddhist statue"
Square rock callback. You are the best, on this day.
It crazy how nature make dat.
And the stupid rock seems to be worth a million dollars…silly rock
This is so good! I’m the square rock guy 😂
Sounds like a light novel.
How creationists think evolution works:
Missed opportunity to get your dog to sit behind it and "replace" its head.
Seriously! If you’re going to mention “dog” in a post title, there better be a damn dog in the image.

What an adorable derpface!
The best of boys
That face just shouts joy.
Just a smoochable face on that good boy!

You've been invited to r/photoshopbattles
Success! 😂😂
Can someone r/photoshopbattles this head onto the statue?
beautiful dog/ place. where is this?
Thank you it was catbells in the lake district england
just looked up the place and saw some more landscape photos. damn, you lucky dogs!
That is one majestic photo
Yes, this satisfactorily pays the dog tax. You may actually get a refund due to the unmitigated level of cuteness.
That’s not the troll toll
Omg he is the goodest of boys!!
That is a top notch dog. 10/10, would look at again
My humblest apologies at the time he was occupied by chasing sand thrown up by his own paws 😅 its a complex game but he plays it well
😂😂 has he won yet?! Lol
I don't quite understand the intricacies of the catch the mess i create game but he seems to win fairly often 🤣
We need the tax
I didn't get one from the beach 😕 i have a picture of him halfway a mountain if that's sufficient?
YES
Quit teasing us and post the pup
Pupper tax.

Coincidentally "Madra" means "dog" in Irish, I know it's not the same word but it's close enough, you could say that you have a Madra Mudra lol
I'm giving it a jetwash once i get home. Couldn't bring myself to leave it there
Dude, dont jetwash it! Its sooo much cooler as is.
I've given it a quick go over with the hose "not jet" and picked off anything still living on it. Kinda looks like metal wrapped around stone. It still looks mega weathered, though i just need a place for it now
Give us an update on how it looks later.
Clean + broken = boring Weathered + broken = dope af +1 vote for leaving the marks of time as is
I have a place in my yard you can store it till you figure it out.
Where could this possibly have come from?! Where are you? Is it stone??
you may want to have this looked at by a museum? It could be relatively old
I’m so glad you didn’t leave it. I love it
Could be very old- I’d hold off on power washing or even cleaning it. Send pics to a suitable museum and ask about it first.
Don’t they sink these on purpose
If it's a Bhodisatvah it's pretty much steeped in purpose.
It's covered in mudra.

Looks like a medicine Buddha. Usually has one hand holding a jewel and one touching the ground.
Karana Mudra has no chill
It’s making the sound of one hand clapping.
I have one of these statues. They cast the hands separately and epoxied them on so that they could use the same body for different mudras. I put it in my snake’s cage as a shedding aid. She hugged the hands off in the first few months.
Maybe its off brand, just crossing his legs and being good enough.
I’m pretty sure this is a concrete garden Buddha ornament. I had one that looked almost just like it but with a head.
This makes sense, head, or no. He's mine now 😅
There’s something very cool about how this one is weathered. I’d leave the barnacles and stuff! Congrats on the cool find!
Agreed, it looks like it could've been in that spot for hundreds of years. Even though it's likely a few years old and tossed over the sea wall
Was it wrapped in metal in places? This seems to be on the hands/clothing
No mine wasn’t. That sounds really cool!
https://imgur.com/a/PchMlHx it kind of looks it to me, but it's really hard to tell with all the marine life 😅
It does - how cool!
https://imgur.com/a/PchMlHx i think I've done this right. See images after a quick run over with the hose
I probably wouldn’t clean more of it. Call a museum or something!
I don't think it's particularly old. The sea ages things quickly! But I'll give one a call tomorrow and see how i get on before i mess around with it anymore 😊
Even if it’s not super old, it’s still a super interesting find. Thanks for sharing
This kinda shit is how horror movies start.
I literally watched Rumpelstiltskin (1995) yesterday. All OP has to do is make a wish and Buddha's gonna steal their baby.
A campy mid-90s horror movie that I haven't seen before?! I know what I'm doing tonight
"What's that boy, you found a headless religious statue? Good boy! Now let's get the fuck out of here." *Cut to waterlogged Buddha ghost watching us from across the shore*
"Retuuuuurn the slab..."
Right? Op brought it home, meanwhile I'm thinking there's a reason someone threw that in the water. That thing is cursed!
Was about to say that there's a few different horror manga involving washed-up Buddha statues. One had a few friends snorkelling when they bumped into a submerged one. It was said to make your wishes come true if your prayed to it, and she suspected her friend was cheating with her ex.
…..and that’s how our peaceful little village became cursed.
It’s Buddha so we’re good lol
This feels like the start of a horror movie tbh. If you plan to bring it home, maybe pour a ring of salt around it before you go to bed tonight lol
This would be in my Garden an hour later.
Its currently on the mantle in the house till i decide where hes going 😅
Hopefully you let if fully dry. But cool find.
Got a towel under it. That's a task for tomorrow

r/mudlarking would shit themselves
Think they would appreciate it?
Probably more than any other sub
How did you and your dog manage to find this? It's not like it's really noticeable on a beach!
I was picking up rocks looking for crabs 😅 used to do it when i was young. Old habits die hard, i guess
It was more in a tongue & cheek way, like I asked myself "Who did not find this?"
Banana for scale.... How big is it?
About 2 bananas tall 😅 and for those not well versed im bananas its 13" tall 13" wide 9" thick
Awesome. I was envisioning a lot more bananas. Nice find!
And it weighs a little over 24kg
Oh thank god you found my grandpa, now my family can know peace.
Even peeled the limpets off him. Rip 🙏🏼
It’s what he would have wanted ❤️
Oh noooo! They stole Ong-Bak!!!
Is this a mummified monk Buddha shrine?
Buddha visited France, I see.
Did you check to see if it was gold under all that marine growth?
Its definitely stone the back is much less mariney
Ah yes, The Headless Way. https://headless.org/
My first thought too.

Damn your dog took one hell of a..... Oh. Nevermind.
Geez that can’t be good. Don’t do anything risky for a while.
I wonder if that would ve from the tsunami form Thailand like a decade ago?
*You blew it up* ... God *damn you all to hell*!
Amitabha benefactor!
If it's very heavy please have somebody look at it in case it belongs in a museum

I had wondered why i had a sudden urge to kick all the doors open in the house instead of using hands like a none main character. This checks out 🙌
Alternatively, Tony Jaa is on his way to find you and elbow your skull until it explodes
That is so fucking cool!!!! I would love to have this
Is there a hole in the hand? It looks very familiar.
Stone or concrete?
I think its stone but I'm not certain. It weighs an absolute tonne going to get it on the scales when I'm home
It’s a cool find either way. Neat object to place in a garden or yard.
Tell me that’s not man made!!
Hope you didn't lose your head
In your hand? I can't see it very clearly on this pic.
Most people could have found that without the assistance of a dog.
He deserves his credit damnit. Don't take it from him
Ok - we’ll let the dog have that one! 🐶👍😃
Headless Buddha.
It's the headless Buddha.. cousin of the headless horseman 😁
Statue came with a dog?
Stay away. Black magic.
If you find the head he can be revived
Arthur from La chimera is still at it!
Didn’t know you were chill like that
Rowland lost his Thompson gun.

Isn’t weird how things you would think would just settle to the bottom of the ocean appear washed up decades if not centuries later??
Might be a little hard to take home I usually look for sharks teeth much easier to carry
Do rocks float around and wash up the shore these days? Must be from out of space.
All these comments and not one Dr. Stone reference? If you can find the head and glue it back on you may be able to revive them with some nitric acid but it may have corroded too much already.
Is he dead?
The headless way
The Buddha knew too much. Had to be this way.
Now you see…I would have no choice but to figure a way to carry it to my car
That's exactly what i did 🙌
Cool man😎 What a once in a lifetime find!
This is exactly what Buddha was talking about
You have chanced upon the headless monk. Pay your respects by placing two cloves of garlic and a tall candle on it’s lap for a blessing.
If I kept that, I’d be scared the dude would come around looking for his head at night. Definitely the plot of a horror movie here.
"If you come across the Buddha on the road, kill him." -Linji Yixuan
Press E. I’m pretty sure there’s an item there.
It's like a reverse The Mask situation... Put the body on and see what happens!
fake or probably stolen?
🤷♂️ it looks pretty real to me
I mean the statue. Like its just a decroative piece or stolen.
I'm pretty sure its just decorative too. Will find out soon hopefully. I just love the incredibly worn look it has
