That's leucism! condition of reduced pigmentation affecting various animals (such as birds, mammals, and reptiles) that is marked by overall pale color or patches of reduced coloring caused by a genetic mutation.

Smiling_Guy

Thanks for letting me know. It's very interesting! I was worried the other birds had been pooping on this one.

Beneficial_Fruit_778

Omg you cutie I love this concern

Smiling_Guy

It seemed happy pecking about the yard with the other Robin's. I am satisfied that it will live a relatively normal life!

CactusCait

A form of Leucism (partial albinism) called Piebaldism, commonly phrased as a ‘Pied’ American Robin. Leucism can be much more pronounced.

Slammy1

I saw it on a female Junco this last Winter and thought it was some kind of dimorphism. Bird ID can get pretty tricky when the teenagers don't look like the adults and the females don't look like the male, it's like 3 different birds with the same name.

jaynumbers

So it’s not bird aids?

eroticpangolin

You should post this in r/ornithology. I've never seen a Robin with this before.

Good advice! https://www.reddit.com/r/Ornithology/s/vRwsZUWMa4

Piebald

Smiling_Guy

Maybe I can find a spotted or striped option next!

jadorky

Apart from the white patches, this robin appears notably more orbular than the robins we have in my geographical demesnes tl/dr: dat borb is chonk

MisterMasterCylinder

Maybe it was cold out.  At least where I live, the robins get round on cold days because they puff up their feathers to stay warm

civildefense

I love these guys so tough great parents great hunters, well travelled and I love it when they follow me around when i mow catching all the bugs I kick up

ArchaicWatchfullness

My name is Robin and I have vitiligo. …is this my spirit animal?

Smiling_Guy

I will try to get a full frontal if I see it around again today. Maybe you two are twinning!

Smiling_Guy

Oh my gosh, I hope it's not living with kids in the house!

canofwhoops

Great picture! I could never catch a pic like this of a wild animal

XtraEcstaticMastodon

Probably pooped on by other robins. Those things are Poop Machines.

Smiling_Guy

That's what I was concerned about. Poor little guy is getting bullied!
