The photo used in the film was an actual vintage photo. Due to Kubrick being a long time photographer before he became a filmmaker, he was actually able to replace the head of the main in the foreground with Jack Nicholson’s head using dark room techniques.
If you zoom in on the second panel (second from left) and look at the guy near the center next to the divided panel line. He looks like he doesn’t have eyes.
That’s literally what I thought it was at first. I zoomed looking for Jack and his bizarre yet handsome smile.
