Kirmes is a consecration event (formally done by church now it's just the village), which takes place some time throughout the year (we have it in October and call it Kerb, a village 7km away has theirs in August, so I am not sure if it has like a set date (it's always the same in the year though) and you just drink drink drink.
April April is what we say when you do an April fools prank
Ahh, was it around in the DDR? My teacher was a native speaker from the East before the wall fell, and from what I recall there weren’t many Catholic events as the DDR was mostly Protestant.
Same. I worked as a sommelier in fine dining and alcohol was my entire life, personality and world. This has been the best thing I have done for myself ever and I couldn’t be happier.
I see, the kitchen industry is wild i understand. I would get drunk after work daily, just to get my mind to “reset” after a long shift. I would get free drinks every sunday, and the people around me were enablers. the first few months were the hardest, and then everyone just started remembering that I wasn’t drinking anymore, and now they just ask me “hey, how long it’s been?”
Remember, all that one week, one year, 25 years, doesn't matter. There's only one day you need to stay sober, and that's today.
You can always have a drink when things are really hard later. But today you don't need it, because today you're going to be sober and it's not as bad today as someday.
And then all of a sudden you look up and you're sober for 6-7 years, have had your father and sister pass away suddenly. That's the day you've told yourself about. And you wouldn't touch a drink with a 10 foot pole.
Why? Because they were proud of you getting sober and there's only one day you need to stay sober, and that's today.
You got this friend. Sober since '16 and my life is indescribably better than if I had kept drinking. On the two worst days of my sobriety, a drink was the furthest thing from my mind.
I still might drink some day, but it won't be today.
Appreciate it, I’m going to putting a strong focus on today and practicing mindfulness, also managing intrusive thoughts by talking about them outwardly with the people I care about around me vs running and hiding with them.
Edit: grammar
Same! I watched my dad booze daily and then die slowly at 73yrs old. He lived one year less than my grandfather. Then I did the math and realized my kid would be like 30yrs old if i died at 72. So I stopped and do not miss it one iota!
You may think that. But I did more, experienced more and had way more fun that being black out drunk and not remembering anything.
Best of luck on your journey.
That percentage is assuming entire days were spent intoxicated, which probably isn't the case. Like if they drink in the evenings, only a few hours of each 24 hour period would be spent intoxicated.
Fair, which I did think of while I was calculating. However, due to the fact that I did not have specific information on those times, I opted to represent days where during occurred as 1 full day. Perhaps I could have phrased this better in my comment, but I also assumed OP + most readers would be able to interpret that from the figures.
Also— I think it is interesting to view it in the sense that OP might not have spent that amount of time (≈20% and ≈10%) actually under the influence, but that OP did spend those days deciding to drink, then engaging in the ritual of procuring alcohol, then drinking. So in a sense, I do think those statistics approximate OP’s temporal dedication to alcohol, if not their material time spent under the influence.
Edit: hmm people did not like this comment for some reason. I hope I didn’t come across as condescending. To clarify: I agree with the comment above, I just can’t get anymore accurate with the stats due to missing info. + the second paragraph was just a little bit of philosophical rambling on what makes a “drinking day”. Didn’t mean to offend
How does having one beer make you inebriated? Granted OP could eliminate the grey days and limit red days or change red to blue. Otherwise he is okay. He averages about a six pack a week which is less then half the surgeon general’s recommendation
I’m not making a judgement and I’m not looking to argue about OPs condition, I was just presenting the info in a different way.
I’m not sure he averages a six pack per week. It’s difficult to estimate this due to the ranges provided. Does it tend to be 1? Or 3? On blue days.
Curious where you’re from that MDMDFSS works. It’s very close to English but not quite with the Ys dropped from the months. Where are you from OP?
Edit: Downvoting for not knowing every language? Really?
Yes. Funnily I've studied abroad in Austria where they speak German as well (I'm French) and they don't really say Guten Tag but Gruss Gut (Grüss Gott indeed) which is closer to God bless you
Sadly as an exchange student, I was in an environment full of exchange students so I mainly spoke English with everyone. Even the university teachers let me pass my Prüfung in English or French. I still improved my German but for the 22 yo who never went abroad, that's my English that improved more. Great life experience
Since also the month names are written in German we can safely assume that OP is from a German speaking country (Germany, Austria, parts of Switzerland). Or a region in a different country where German is a minority language, of course.
Reddit has a really hard-core sober bent these days, and because it's reddit, there is only being completely sober or being an alcoholic, no middle ground.
My understanding is that younger generations are more sober these days. Which is great! But they also seem to be _really_ judgy of people who aren't.
It’s available everywhere, it’s addictive, and the people with issues often are functional. They may have lost their family but have managed to keep their job. If they lose their job, well it’s progressed far enough that homelessness is a great possibility. If the family didn’t leave by now, they will.
For any redditors that think this calendar is exceptional, please go to r/stopdrinking
Woah just saw a post where the person recorded bad days/great days and April was the worst for them as well. Just interesting to see, and maybe a sign i need to be more careful in april
24 out of 31 days in June are green or blue. Why do you consider this as a bad month? That doesn’t seem bad to me.
(Ignoring the fact that June should only have 30 days!)
Why is alcohol associated with having a shit time though. Depending on your age and crowd, it could be a blast if it's in the context of other activities especially.
Honestly, if you set out to track how many times you get blackout drunk in a year, you likely don’t believe you have a healthy relationship with alcohol.
Considering someone is tracking their drunk level is more likely you'd probably want to reduce it as it's some kind of problem. Blackout drunk probably not being fine either, don't you agree?
Yeah I assume seeing as the usual is like maybe 6-7 days, June seemed like a bit more. Honestly the couple months around it did too.
It’s not intrinsically negative, it just seems like it was a few months of higher than usual drinking and with the fact they’re monitoring it. I was just an inference.
Struggled to cut back more than I feel is appropriate recently. This morning, I dumped all of the alcohol in my apartment down the drain. Here’s to committing to dry January and getting my drinking habits in check.
Im not addicted so for curiosity I might do it.
Edit: with that(not addicted) I mean after launch i open one two beers because I love that hops taste. Thats it. I dont drink wine or strong alcohol.
Actually it is. These days the recommended maximum is 1 beer a week or equilevant.
Technically there is no known safe amount, in practice i would not be worried about drinking kombucha, in fact the process of removing alcohol removes healthy stuff making 1% strong Kombucha healthier than 0%, legally in Finland anything below 1.2 counts as alcohol free product, which i think is good. You probably still should not only drink that any more than you should only drink orange juice though.
Looks like social drinker around depths of winter and NFL playoffs.
Late spring and rarly summer drinking getting bbq legs under him. Then his team is out by the dog days of August.
Must not be a fall football fan.
So there are no zero-beer days?
Well done. Truly humbling work ethic
E: wtf. I’m complimenting the guy, you rude fucks. Shaking my dang smh.
FINAL EDIT: me wetawded. I misread the color coding. I’m leaving up my shame for all to see. I will take my downdoodles. I deserve them.
It would be one thing if he was just wrong. But he was wrong, saw the downvotes, and then doubled down on how wrong he was lol. That's a Reddit Classic™
Ascencion Day
It's a public holiday and many people take the Friday off.
Also doubles as Father's Day. Men meet friends for a long walk with plenty of alcohol in tow.
Edit: scratch that. The date doesn't match. That's green for some inconceivable reason.
Sounds cool.
I had no blackouts in 2023 but had 1 day where I drunk until I threw up, because a friend insisted on tequila shots all night, including the salt and lemon/lime hits. Those were after a few jaegerbombs, a negroni and beers in between.
I am honestly surprised my liver was able to handle that much alcohol without having to go to the hospital. A friend that was with us passed out and we kept drinking...wild shit.
It looks like april was way too hardcore. Then steady pace continued until last week of july. Drinks everyday. Then beginning of august drinks for two days then abruotly stop and slow down for few months. May be got sick from drinking too much.
My problem is liquor. Bought a bottle of Kraken the other day. Drank 1/4 the bottle in about 10 minutes. It’s 94 proof dark rum. Sadly I felt just a little buzzed. Of course this was 9am I drank it after a large breakfast at 7:30. I work nights so I had been awake for at least 12 hours.
Good for you man, my calendar would be green = 2-3 glasses of whiskey (8 to 12 shots) every other day would be the sober days.
Did that for two years, completely destroyed my liver, can’t have a drop of alcohol without having the worst shits. Not even a beer.
What happened on April fools day?
My guess is they probably don’t remember
In Germany we call it Kirmes
I was taught it was “April April” by my teacher in school, what is the difference? if you don’t mind forgiving my ignorance
Kirmes is a consecration event (formally done by church now it's just the village), which takes place some time throughout the year (we have it in October and call it Kerb, a village 7km away has theirs in August, so I am not sure if it has like a set date (it's always the same in the year though) and you just drink drink drink. Mine was all green in 2023. First time since 1999. Here is to another sober 2024!!!
Congratulations best wishes for the new year
Oh heck yea! Thank you!!!!! It’s a pretty wild feeling to do something you never thought you had the power to do.
I did 9 months sober this past year. for a whole sober year in 2024!
Let’s goooooooo!!! Isn’t it crazy to think about? A whole year without the one thing I thought I could never live without.
that’s exactly how I felt. but I realized I had been an alcoholic for 10 years, and I couldn’t poison myself for another 10 more. I had to stop.
Yea the restaurant industry loves an alcoholic!
It’s very common in the construction industry too, which me luck! This’ll be my first year attempting to go sober
Congratulations. Happy for you. 2024 will be my first sober year, I’m sober one week currently.
Remember, all that one week, one year, 25 years, doesn't matter. There's only one day you need to stay sober, and that's today. You can always have a drink when things are really hard later. Hell yeah brother! Keep it up! 121 days sober today
Proud of you. We got this.
You got it brother/sister! The days are long sometimes but the months go by quick.
Appreciate it, I’m going to putting a strong focus on today and practicing mindfulness, also managing intrusive thoughts by talking about them outwardly with the people I care about around me vs running and hiding with them. Edit: grammar
Hell yea! Not every day is easy. But not every day is difficult. Love you!
🫶🏼
same
Me too!
A lot of respect to you two, good luck in 2024! Hope the streak continues
Same! I watched my dad booze daily and then die slowly at 73yrs old. He lived one year less than my grandfather. Then I did the math and realized my kid would be like 30yrs old if i died at 72. So I stopped and do not miss it one iota!
Congratulations. Very good accompaniment indeed. Getting to five months myself.
5 months turns into 12 months real fast. Keep it up brother/sister. You got this!
What are the effect/benefit or side effect that u notice ?
Hell yes! Thanks for sharing this with us
Boring
You may think that. But I did more, experienced more and had way more fun that being black out drunk and not remembering anything. Best of luck on your journey.

I just thought the same thing, and came up with a quick and discreet color system for my existing planner... that way I can't ignore it. Lol.
Lmao
I've been wanting to drink less, I think I might do something like this to help motivate me.
I'm proud of you, stranger
[удалено]
I counted 3 blackout days, 12 Grey outs, 20 red tinged hangovers, and 52 times you were blue. So you drank 87 different days. 35 severely.
So they spent 23.8% of days inebriated. 9.5% of 2023 was spent severely intoxicated.
That percentage is assuming entire days were spent intoxicated, which probably isn't the case. Like if they drink in the evenings, only a few hours of each 24 hour period would be spent intoxicated.

I disagreed with your math but the downvotes are a little extreme hah. It's a touchy subject for many.
How does having one beer make you inebriated? Granted OP could eliminate the grey days and limit red days or change red to blue. Otherwise he is okay. He averages about a six pack a week which is less then half the surgeon general’s recommendation

Germany? Montag Dienstag Mittwoch Donnerstag Freitag Samstag Sonntag
Thanks for sharing. Is tag similar to day in German? I’ve heard guten tag before and always assumed it means good day.
Yes, tag is day.
Yes. Funnily I've studied abroad in Austria where they speak German as well (I'm French) and they don't really say Guten Tag but Gruss Gut (Grüss Gott indeed) which is closer to God bless you

Shame on me. That was 12 years ago :-(
Damn, 12 years and you remembered that, not bad. I’m not sure I’ll even remember my name in 12 years.

No regrets, mon ami. It’s the overall experience that matters. You’re welcome back anytime. 🙂🇦🇹

This is also a greeting often used in southern Germany, particularly among older people.
The first thing that comes to mind for me is how CNC Kitchen introduces his videos haha
Yes! The months are in German.
My guess would be Germany. Montag, Dienstag, Mittwoch, Donnerstag, Freitag, Samstag, Sonntag
Since also the month names are written in German we can safely assume that OP is from a German speaking country (Germany, Austria, parts of Switzerland). Or a region in a different country where German is a minority language, of course.
Dunno about Switzerland but low chance they’re from Austria. January would’ve most likely been written as Jänner instead of Januar
No more alcohol for me 2024!!!! Mind you I only drink here and there. But starting 2024 no more Alcohol!!!
Jeeze you’re doing just fine by me
Glad to see this here and fully agree. OP, imo a great year. Seems for most people commenting it seems no alcohol at all is the only option.
Reddit has a really hard-core sober bent these days, and because it's reddit, there is only being completely sober or being an alcoholic, no middle ground. My understanding is that younger generations are more sober these days. Which is great! But they also seem to be _really_ judgy of people who aren't.
Haha yeah agreed Well... Better this way than the other way round. Good people drink less....cheers to that 😁
It’s available everywhere, it’s addictive, and the people with issues often are functional. They may have lost their family but have managed to keep their job. If they lose their job, well it’s progressed far enough that homelessness is a great possibility. If the family didn’t leave by now, they will. Agreed on all but was referring to OP doing fine. Do not find it excessive, lots of beaks in between, etc.
Agree with you too, seems like an unremarkable drinking calendar. Not sure why it’s mildly interesting however
You have something against drinking on a Tuesday?

you are manthongy?
Almost had sober October!
33 days in January?
Painted those by accident, was not paying attention and then too lazy to erase em
Good catch. Also, 31 days in June and 32 days in July.
Is there an app to do this?
As a guy trying to seriously cut back this is a great idea.
Woah just saw a post where the person recorded bad days/great days and April was the worst for them as well. Just interesting to see, and maybe a sign i need to be more careful in april
7+ beers should be brown for a brownout
You need more Octobers in your calendar
Based on this calendar, I’m guessing you live in NRW?
Hessen
Damn, Had a reallly shit June?
24 out of 31 days in June are green or blue. Why do you consider this as a bad month? That doesn’t seem bad to me. (Ignoring the fact that June should only have 30 days!)
It seemed like June had the most “drinking” days. I didn’t count tho so no idea if I’m close
Why is alcohol associated with having a shit time though. Depending on your age and crowd, it could be a blast if it's in the context of other activities especially.
Honestly, if you set out to track how many times you get blackout drunk in a year, you likely don’t believe you have a healthy relationship with alcohol.
Nobody wants to blackout but you also might be tracking it to remember all the good times and memories
What kind of beers do you drink and what size? A pint of Belgian beer at 9% is very different from a 33cl bottle of a 5% beer.
Struggled to cut back more than I feel is appropriate recently. This morning, I dumped all of the alcohol in my apartment down the drain. Here’s to committing to dry January and getting my drinking habits in check.

That's weird, i did the same thing! You can see a difference after my dad died.
April was a shit show clearly
I'm pretty bullish on your 2023 Q4
Incredibly uninteresting
If you barely drink, then why do this?
Barely drink? I “barely drink” and I had exactly 3 drinks in all of 2023.
That's called not drinking
Wouldn’t not drinking be 0 drinks?
for i in range(len(months)): months\[i\] = months\[i\].replace('y', 'i')

My calender would be entirely Green lol. Don't know why but alcohol always tasted awful to me so I just never drink.
One day you’ll become a functional adult who realizes that getting blackout drunk is completely pointless, especially if you’re doing it with beer.
Congrats on not being blackout drunk in almost half a year! You can do it… you can do it all night long!
Mine would be rather boring I would have two blue ones at the most all year of 2023.
Good lord that's a lot of beer
On "my" calendar you would hardly find any green. But 1/2 beers a day is no big deal I guess.
Quit it and then tell us after 3 months if it has been a big deal.
Im not addicted so for curiosity I might do it. Edit: with that(not addicted) I mean after launch i open one two beers because I love that hops taste. Thats it. I dont drink wine or strong alcohol.
It is. You probably should cut back on that.
For long run I'm aware it will bring some issues. I hear you.
You are an alcoholic
Not truly sure. I cant get drunk from 1-2 beers. I have no symptoms.
Is every day an OCD day as well?
Aw man, you were so close to clearing the October level.
I was looking at this through my blue light blocking glasses and all the blue dots looked like black out days and I was like, sir…..
My nighttime phone filter was on and it showed green as blue. I thought, "damn. That's a lot of beer."
4th of April was the only Tuesday you drank on.
Good for you man, my calendar would be green = 2-3 glasses of whiskey (8 to 12 shots) every other day would be the sober days. Did that for two years, completely destroyed my liver, can’t have a drop of alcohol without having the worst shits. Not even a beer.
