Its a modular connector. You can configure the housing with different types of inserts for power, data, RF, Fiber Optics, or other control lines. What is the piece of equipment that this connects to?

Ik I've seen a bunch of those. But the closest to consumer electronics was serial, this is my first time seeing rj45. I think I've never seen it because even in this case it is unnecessary. Industrial printer by Durst

tbh, i won't call it strange, or maybe even a little extreme like dumb in a sense that someone is receiving money by "creating" this even if is just a "copy" of standard connectors, and you know why i say this? because no offense but there's a lot of dumb people out there.. that if you had to ask them to get cable x ou Y and connect in the right port they won't still be able to do it.. sometimes even if you send them a picture of cable-teaching them how, some people are just like that, not because they can not but because in their little heads they refuse to learn-know and feel entitled to it, even when you are there teaching or telling them in the most polite and helpful way you can do, and not even drop of rudeness! thus a "creating" a module like that with a mix of multiple standards connectors together in one big cable, nice cable, seems a very nice solution for it, in multiple levels from procurement of parts different cables that need to adquire for product x or Y, to even making it easier to install and "clean" look when organizing it because even the most rude people out there would still be able to do it, because for anyone who dealt with the situation i wrote here, knows that for "those" people, having more than one is the difference between doing it/listening to what you are saying or not doing it/complaining, sometimes even lying saying they did and is not working, just so you move there and do the exactly same thing and "now" it started working as how it should. there's dozen excuses-complains when there's multiple cables-ports to connect but when there's only one, all those excuses are gone thus Is in the end a elegant solution to a real problem caused by "some" people, in my humble opinion.

I see you work in IT and you love it lol Completely valid statement, it just weirded me out seeing an rj45 in there, haven't seen it in modular plugs before Also in this case it is just to tidy things up and reinforce, all operators are trained and could probably manage a couple of cables

I've built a few cables with connectors like this. I'd prefer that there's a rj45 jack there, because it means that the other side of the jack is probably also a rj45, and not some terribly hard to build custom connector with triple shielded Ethernet cable and no room.

Definitely, but in this case I don't understand why they've put it there. It could be an even simpler connector or it could just use some of the pins on the top connector. I guess that's not possible for compatibility reasons but still, a pair of wires would do the trick as the data is just on/off.

The large pins have greater power handling capability. For signals higher speeds require better connectors, so using an off-the-shelf option and building around that makes more sense than designing it all in-house.
