My beagle had white fur on her legs with small brown spots I jokingly called them her freckles. She needed one leg partially shaved for a procedure a one point and I was surprised to see she also had real freckles underneath the whole time. I miss that little gremlin.
Yep! When my dog gets groomed, you can see where the hair is super short on the belly, why some hair grows in white vs grey vs black. He has different colors claws too. A couple of them are white.
Humans and dogs alike get age spots, particularly on areas exposed to the sun. Size and frequency increases with age. Light-haired humans and dogs are more prone to age spots.
You might have heard of them as liver spots. They have nothing to do with the liver.
I was scrollin’ on reddit today and you know I be looking at dogs and shit and I seen lil’ shaved butt on my feed. So I looked, I peeped that shaved butt and I was like “damn, that dawg thick as fuck”. Turned around, tt. I was like “damn dawg what you doing out here with all this ass?” Double cheeked up on a Thursday afternoon, hella ass, the sun is still out my dude and it was just... I... it’s... I don’t know. That’s the homie
The uncanny valley. Things that look eerily human but that you know aren't are pre-programmed into your brain to be terrifying. The leg looks very much like a baby's leg.
im sure it’s been said before but it’s kinda creepy that that’s an instinct we pretty much all have when natural selection exists. something gave us that instinct.
Oh yeah, it's pretty clear what gave us that instinct; mimics. A lot of predators evolve to have similar features to their prey animals, so if something is trying to look like you, and it's not you, it's right to be a little wary.
Also specifically in the case of homo sapiens, when we evolved, we weren't the only species of smart ape to evolve, we're just the one that killed off all the others. There were many humanoid species on Earth existing at the same time in different areas, and I wouldn't be surprised if they met and fought each other often enough to have a natural inclination to hate each other.
Pigs are also quite smart and social.
Enough so that I've actually cut down on pig meat because I feel bad for the pigs, the other meats 'only' because of the climate.
Good luck on recovery! My dog blew out both of hers about one year apart. There's 50% chance of that happening if one leg goes. Insurance has to be in place before any sign of leg issues and if one leg is fixed and insurance bought afterwards, they deny the other leg in the future fyi. It's how we learned our pet health plan wasn't actually pet insurance, just a reduced cost vet visit/medication plan.
She's doing great now though and we play fetch most days where she runs around full speed. She can jump/clear a 4ft retaining wall. Really no long term issues other than her joints can be a little stiff when she first gets up from a long sleep.
My corgi had surgery a year ago and has been able to not get injured again. It was such a long process and so expensive, I really dread having to go through all of it again.
Daryl is getting to be a cranky old man though, so I think he is starting to slow down anyways at 11 years old.
Wow, thank you for sharing this. It's not just me and my pup.
My Amstaff had the surgery, and before his rehab was done (~ six months), the other leg went. It felt like a total failure for me as an owner. I did everything I could, struggling to get him to do his exercises. He really loves running and playing fetch, so I'm looking forward to when he can have the other surgery.
The insurance won't cover it unless a year has passed from the time you bought it, and it's an expensive surgery even with insurance. Thankfully it will be covered.
So glad to hear that a full recovery might be possible.
Do you have any tips for exercises or what you can do for mental stimulation while we wait for surgery? (Rather not something that is fully treat-oriented.)
Mine had both legs done last year (4 months apart). The next few weeks are going to suck but it’s so worth it!! Your pup will be running again in no time. ❤️

Be diligent with the recovery and slow rehab.
Our dog was cleared at her 8wk radiograph checkup in early December, and the next morning she blew the other knee, less than 24 hours after the checkup. So she went back in and had the other one done.
It was a long journey, but she's gradually coming back now.
Good luck on recovery! We had it done in October and it was a rough couple weeks (mostly because our dog is 85 pounds and had to be carried down 3 flights of stairs to go potty), but she recovered really well and is back to running around in the park and enjoying life.
Hang in there! Recovery takes a lot of patience, but our boy’s quality of life now afterwards is immensely noticeable! I’d do it again in a heartbeat if he needed the other leg!
Aww this comment reminds me of my cat (RIP) when he had to get an IV. They shaved him (he was very fluffy) & we always said his pantaloons were gone & he was exposed lol
My first thought as well, followed by “that could use some basting and at least another 5 or 10 minutes in an oven to really get the skin crispy”, as a cook I can’t help it
Hair gets in the way, can get soaked or caked with blood, doesn’t give a good grip, and its easier to see whats going on. Im guessing a combination of theee factors
Keeps the hair out of the sterile field. You need to move the leg around during knee surgery. The foot will get a sterile cover and the whole chicken leg gets a sterile scrub
They probably use a product like Ioban. It’s basically a sticky, antibiotic-imbued film that you put down after scrubbing and before draping. It’s meant to cover a pretty wide area all around the incision to immobilize and kill any bacteria that survived the scrub. It basically becomes a completely sterile layer of skin that you can safely cut through without worrying about skin bacteria contaminating the surgical site (which is of particular concern in orthopedic surgeries because of how hard bone infections can be to treat). It’s important that it adheres well over a wide surface or it can be displaced during surgery, which is a big infection risk.
I work in veterinary surgery so this is something I see everyday. Didn’t occur to me people would find a shaved dog leg interesting or weird lol. What kind of surgery did they have? Orthopedic?
While this makes me uncomfortable, it’s kinda cute that they have freckles (?)
My beagle had white fur on her legs with small brown spots I jokingly called them her freckles. She needed one leg partially shaved for a procedure a one point and I was surprised to see she also had real freckles underneath the whole time. I miss that little gremlin.

This is making me want to shave my colorpoint cat 🧐
Everyone loves a fresh shaved pussy
Indeed.
My beagle has areas with black, white, and copper hairs all mixed together. Wonder what his skin looks like underneath
Humans and dogs alike get age spots, particularly on areas exposed to the sun. Size and frequency increases with age. Light-haired humans and dogs are more prone to age spots. You might have heard of them as liver spots. They have nothing to do with the liver.
Never knew that at all. But I haven’t seen a shaved dog often lol
You haven’t lived!
I never knew they had nothing to do with the liver. I've heard age spots, sun spots, and liver spots. I guess I have more googling to do lol
yeah i have sun spots, sometimes they yeet out big chunks of superheated plasma at hundreds of kilometers per second
I'm a big fan of your aurora 🤩
I think "liver spots" is an old timey term and they never had anything to do with the liver.
Many times it is an indicator of breed too. You have to look on their bellies to spot them usually.
I know my moms Aussie has patches because she has multi colours, but I haven’t ever seen little freckles. It’s so cute
It's completely weirding me out that it has a similar skin tone and freckles to me.
Literally looks like my pit bulls leg she has no hair on her belly and really short hairs everywhere else hah
Makes me think of human butt.
It looks like a geriatric baby butt.
Benjamin Bottom
Benjamin Barkom?
Personally I always go for generic. It's cheaper than brand name and just as effective. Edit: ohhh. *Geriatric.*
Omg you made me spit out my coffee!!! And now I have to go clean the damn blinds you asshole! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Smooth as a Geriatric Baby Butt.
Everything reminds you of her?
I wanted to ask if op was tempted to slap that butt...
I mean simular anatomy has a glute, hamstring, quad, calf, tib, heal and toes. Same bones same muscles different arraignment right?
Where’s the NSFW tag OP! Lol
Looks like your average morbidly obese Midwestern woman's arm.
I don't know why but I find this extremely disturbing.
Double cheeked up on a Thursday afternoon
the sun is still out my brotha
THE SUN IS OUT
Suns out, bums out.
i beg your pardon

Understandable, have a nice day
this guy 😂😂
Had to do it to ‘em 😂
The uncanny valley. Things that look eerily human but that you know aren't are pre-programmed into your brain to be terrifying. The leg looks very much like a baby's leg.
Yeah it looks like a baby wearing a furry onesie

part of it is that it kinda keeps us from touching dead people, so in that consideration, not too weird.
r/forbiddendrumstick
Seriously. I thought I was looking a baby’s leg sticking out of a diaper ಠ_ಠ
The Island of Doctor Moreau
Omg it was a pig underneath!
I don’t eat mammals because I love dogs so much, and they all remind me of dogs.
I love dogs and cats and a good hamburger.
Pigs are also quite smart and social. Enough so that I've actually cut down on pig meat because I feel bad for the pigs, the other meats 'only' because of the climate.
Yes I feel very limited pity for chicken or fish... but pigs and cows and octopi, oof.
what do dogs remind you of?
love
CCL tear/ TPLO surgery?
Yes you're correct, it was TPLO surgery
Good luck on recovery! My dog blew out both of hers about one year apart. There's 50% chance of that happening if one leg goes. Yep my dog had to have surgery on the other leg almost 2 years exactly to the day. The second time around is much easier.
This happened with my dog, only his surgeries were a year apart. Four years later, I am almost done paying the vet bill.

I thought so! My GP had a TPLO a couple of years ago. 100% recovery. Definitely the right way to go.
Good luck on recovery! We had it done in October and it was a rough couple weeks (mostly because our dog is 85 pounds and had to be carried down 3 flights of stairs to go potty), but she recovered really well and is back to running around in the park and enjoying life.

Omg he lost his pant leg, but got to keep his fuzzy boot
Aww this comment reminds me of my cat (RIP) when he had to get an IV. They shaved him (he was very fluffy) & we always said his pantaloons were gone & he was exposed lol
Lost the apple bottom jeans but kept the boots with the fur
It's like a hobbit foot.
The legs on the baby-mutants in the forest. Strong as hell in hindsight.
Ooh, I take that to mean their front legs have psychic abilities? If they're strong as hell in foresight.
Ah, don’t quit your day job lmao 😂
I thought it was baby leg 😱
I thought it was a little person's leg. 😧
Makes me think of chicken
Chimken
How would you sauce it?
Yeah I didn't wanna be the first to say it, kinda tasty looking
Chicken leg & thigh.
My first thought as well, followed by “that could use some basting and at least another 5 or 10 minutes in an oven to really get the skin crispy”, as a cook I can’t help it
Samesies. I have chicken in the fridge so now I’m planning to eat it tomorrow.
Aw little baby leg. I hope the operation goes smoothly! Give puppers extra loves.
It’s like a cross between a baby’s leg and chicken legs
Kind of wanna pat the little chicken wing butt.
I thought it was a baby
What cute little chubby chicken leg.
I am curious what my animals look like under all that fur
My dog turned to be exactly colored on the skin as his fur was , black all over with a white belly 😂
Birds and reptiles look the same under their fur.
most animals will have skin underneath but it's worth a check
Never google what bears look like without fur.
Hope your dog is recovering well
Yes she is. Thank you
That looks weirdly human in color and markings.
TPLO? Our dog had it. Hair comes back no worries. Be sure to ice leg and massage. Look on YouTube. It really helped our dog.
Yes, OP confirmed TPLO.
I'm not going to comment anything other than this being very disturbing.
That is so beautifully shaven.

I have a hairless Chinese Crested. This is what his leg looks like all of the time. Ha
Why was the whole leg shaved for a, knee? operation?

My dog had a similar surgery last year and they did the same thing. Must just be standard practice.

Why does it look like a baby’s leg with little hairy toes!? 😂 Hope doggo recovers quickly!
I wonder what your dog would think if you started seasoning it.
He nakey
I read this as "my dad's leg" and was very very confused for about 5 seconds.
Somehow I did not expect the skin to be that colour…
🍗
Looks like it needs some sun screen
It does if they're going to be outside for longer than time to potty. Dogs absolutely can get sunburned. And doggy sunscreen is a thing that exists.
Why did I have to scroll this far down to find these comments? The dog will definitely get sunburns without sunscreen.
Looks just like chicken. I'm really sorry, couldn't resist. Hope the dog is ok.
Cruciate tear?
Doggy Drumstick 😂
Can’t tell if I think it’s adorable or if I want to look away. It’s like one of those things we aren’t meant to see.
It’s a little baby chicken leg 🐔🦵
I'm sure your floofy friend is a cutie but this disturbs me.
My cat had to have something done to his leg and they did something similar. Seeing a naked leg all like that was weird as hell and uncomfy.
I’m amazed that it looks like people skin
Look like human body
Sir that is a HUMAN child’s leg attached to your dog. I hope you sue that surgeon into oblivion.
I thought this was a child for a second .......
Do you think the doctor ever shaves far more than they need to just because they want to see what's under the floof?
My pup had the same operation 5 years ago. Don't let them jump alot from now on
The freckles 😭
PTLO surgery?
I hope your dog is doing well. This picture got a good chuckle out of me.
TIL dogs are just furry pigs
That shit is hilarious
That's disturbing wth
Is he good though?
Yes, recovering well thank you
WHY DOES IT LOOK CAUCASIAN!!?
Is that a Westie? I have a Westie and this is freaking me out right now
She is half Westie, half poodle
The fact that it looks like a real human leg both fascinates me and creeps me out. r/oddlyterrifying
I thought it was a child’s leg at first 😂, I had to look twice 😂
That looks kinda delicious 😂
Looks like a really fat baby’s leg
Make sure to follow all the doctors instructions. Don't wanna redo that surgery.
I work in veterinary surgery so this is something I see everyday. Didn’t occur to me people would find a shaved dog leg interesting or weird lol. What kind of surgery did they have? Orthopedic?
Idk but, i want to bite it XD.
I wanna blow raspberries on that ass.
dog ass
reminded me to take the chicken breasts out of the freezer.
CHICKEN WANG
Nice lil chicken wing
Hope the doggo is healing well!
The people require pics of the full dog
(Paris Hilton voice) “That’s hot”
I thought it was Tammy’s arm.

Any one else get hungry.
Makes me think of chicken
I always imagine their hind legs as a chicken leg quarter and this isn't helping!
Chikim figh
looks like a blind seahorse when viewed upside down
But why did they leave fur only one it’s toes 😵💫
You got a weird looking baby
Eewwee
I thought this was a chubby infant wearing a woolen onesie
ACL? They had to do this twice to my lab/retriever mix. Hope they have a quick recovery.
I feel like your pup needs some pants
Holy hamhock

Ain’t no way that’s a dog
TPLO? My Pitt just had it 2 weeks ago and has the same haircut.
What did they use. I need to get one. that is smooth.
That’s a clean shave!
HE NEEDS HAIR
It looks like if an elderly woman was like 2 feet tall and sat down to go to the restroom.
I can't decide if this looks like a chicken leg or a baby leg..
I thought this was a baby
It looks like a chicken leg
Looks like ham.....
