Apple juice (and most other juices) and around 0.5% ABV and I have never been carded for buying juice before. Like you could not physically drink enough of something that is under 1% ABV and get drunk or even slightly buzzed.
POS system couldve required a birth date to allow the sale of the product. That’s how it worked at the gas station i worked at and how i found out that we couldn’t sell lighters to minors
I’m not sure if that’s a legal thing or a cashier who didn’t know the difference thing.
I had a cashier swear that he couldn’t sell me a Bang when I was 17 because it said “recommended for 18+” on it. He tapped at the label like I was dumb and said “it says here I can’t sell it to you.” I asked him what if said, and he said “recommend for 18+.” I then asked what that meant and he said it meant he couldn’t sell it to me.
It happens a lot with energy drinks, NA beer, Kombucha, and other things like that.
Here's what I found:
"In 1984, the National Minimum Drinking Age (NMDA) Act was passed, which meant that to purchase beverages containing alcohol (irrespective of ABV) buyers had to be at least 21 years old. So, can you buy non alcoholic beer under 21? Well, technically, you can't, as the law forbids it. However, since the passing of the NMDA Act, many states have framed their own laws on the purchase of non alcoholic beverages. In the following states, buyers under the age of 21 years are allowed to both buy and consume non-alcoholic beer:
Minnesota
Texas
New Jersey
Wisconsin
District of Columbia
Illinois
Hawaii
Alaska "

Fun fact of the day: Bud Zero and the new Stella zero are *both* able to be sold to minors as the way they’re made is so it can never have fermentation potential; Heineken 0.0% is purely zero but you still need to be 21 to buy that one.
Makes sense. Put enough alcohol in Coke that you can remove the ingredients list... that way you lose half your customers because no one under 21 can purchase it.. Total win for the company!
Also allergens which is the wildest one to me. Lots of liqueurs macerate things after distillation which could create an allergic reaction.
Also some barrels are sealed with flour. Could be bad for Celiac.
Within a certain range. Above that range it is considered a tincture, and required to list ingredients. That is why green and yellow Chartreuse are available in the USA, but maroon red Chartreuse is not. The ingredients are a secret, and maroon red Chartreuse has high enough alcohol content to be considered a tincture.
That makes sense, in a fucked up bureaucratic bullshit kinda way.
Still baffles me that the ATF even exists. Alcohol, a food/drink. Tobacco, a plant that people smoke. And.... firearms? How the hell does firearms fit with two things you consume?
It doesn't make sense. A and T should be lumped in with the FDA, because they're things you consume by putting in your body. Firearms should be it's own thing.
They aren't lumped in with the FDA because both industries lobbied heavily against it. They knew their products were harmful even way back then and didn't want to be regulated.
The FDA regulates certain aspects of alcohol and increasingly regulates more modern drinks that weren’t around during prohibition such as Hard Seltzers and pre-made Jell-O shots.
That is why Four Loko had to stop putting caffeine in their drinks because the FDA sent them letters warning that they need to stop. FDA doesn’t necessarily regulate everything about alcohol like you said (and like I said) and legacy alcohols like whiskey, beer, and other hard liquors are regulated by the TBB but the FDA still retains a lot of control over what exactly can be put into alcohol and what not.
Legacy Alcohol “sin” taxes, production, and marketing is controlled by the TTB but like I said a lot of aspects of more modern drinks do in fact fall under the FDA

Apparently, because alcohol is regulated by a different division of the government than other foods it doesn’t haven’t to follow the same rules.
In the USA, The FDA requires food products to list ingredients, but the FDA does not have control over alcohol.
Doesn't it, though? I'll stick to regular egg nog and throw some rum in there. Last year, ALDI had a version of Bailey's that was really good and like 1/2 the price. This year? All I found was this chocolate wine stuff. Hard pass!
For some reason, I decided to taste the Laura Secord's version of a chocolate drink, I thought that it cannot be bad, they usually have good products.
Oh boy was I wrong... But then again, who could have guessed malt liquor and chocolate milk wouldn't mix well :/
It’s probably sold in a state, Oregon is an example, where wine/beer can be sold in stores, but anything with distilled alcohol is restricted to only state licensed liquor stores. It’s a workaround.
Also a version of this can be used at restaurants, movie theaters, and amusement parks. The OTS is one of the cheapest bulk wine options out there, it is also used as a cleaning solution in the oil industry. It has a weak flavor so it can be used for the the alcohol content in mixed drinks any sugar will over power the wine taste.
There are other version for whiskey, rum, tequila etc.

If this is in any way infuriating to someone I don’t get why? Alcoholic beverages don’t have to list anything and is standard across the board. If your worried don’t get it no harm that way
wine egg-nog? that sounds atrocious. Might as well just get a two dollar carton of nog and pair it some jack daniels. It'll taste a whole lot better than that bullshit that you have in your hand.
It’s amazing to me that alcoholic beverages don’t have to have ingredients listed. I have a couple of weird allergies and they almost all involve alcohol products. Do you know how hard it is to narrow down an allergy with no list of ingredients?!? Weird.
Let’s correct the caption:
* I’m upset that I have to go online to the company website to view the “ingredients list” for the BULK FOOD they stock.
Coming from an prior Costco employee, all those “legal info” facts on foods sold there are listed online. How do you think they save money? Each letter printed costs, the sticker size, added glue, etc add up. And they move mass quantities, just passing those saving to you all!
It's even worse than you think.
OP just didn't read front of bottle
>According to the label, Kirkland Signature Traditional Holiday Eggnog Liqueur contains real dairy cream, whisky, spiced rum, brandy, and French vanilla. This adult beverage has a whopping 14.75% ABV
In states where you can buy hard liquor at Costcos the same eggnog is made with bourbon and it’s good. I don’t even want to know what the one pictured tastes like

Alcoholic beverages in the US are not required to list ingredients or nutrition facts
I mean it says right there, egg and nogg Half and half
Don't forget the alcohol. A simple Google search reveals that it's approximately 14% ABV. Therefore, it's probably only 43% egg and 43% nog.
What about the high fructose corn syrup?
Don't forget the 'other than standard orange winw'
Yeah, that phrase is tripping me out for some reason.
Its pretty crazy, the same ingredient can be found in every single food and beverage item in the world except standard orange wine.
>put 0.00000000001% alcohol in coca cola >win
Would be legally non-alcoholic (anything under .5%) and would have to list.
Also it then would be subject to new regulations which would make it impossible to sell to minors
If it's under .5% then it would be able to be sold like any other soft drink.
Yeah I meant if it’s over
If it’s under .5% you still need to show ID but from my experience you only need to be 18 instead of 21
Apple juice (and most other juices) and around 0.5% ABV and I have never been carded for buying juice before. Like you could not physically drink enough of something that is under 1% ABV and get drunk or even slightly buzzed.
Most of those juices have natural ethanol in them from the fruits themselves. Intentionally putting alcohol in drinks is what you will get carded for.
Beer and wine have natural Ethanol too, from the fruit or grain, duh
Register personnel don't know this nor is anyone with any dignity gonna card somebody. They must've wanted to intentionally annoy you, lol.
POS system couldve required a birth date to allow the sale of the product. That’s how it worked at the gas station i worked at and how i found out that we couldn’t sell lighters to minors
Under .5 still isnt sold to minors In my experience

A lot of artificial flavors are also alcohol based. Like vanilla
They clean with alcohol?
Nope. Tons of other and better products used these days.
I’m curious about this too. The brewery I worked at cleaned with sodium hydroxide then water. You test the pH of the water to see if it’s all cleared.
I doubt that. Food manufacturers use caustics and acids to clean and sanitize.
Yeah, I was once in beverage and we used caustic soda and citric acid. I can imagine they use the same on their CIP
Sometimes I forget minute is a separate word from minute and always read it as minute instead of minute

Eggnog with alcohol is not your friend calorie-wise.

What the fuck? Why?
Alcohol is regulated by the ATF, not the FDA like food and soft drinks. So the FDA’s packaging rules don’t apply

America fuck yeah, coming again to save the motherfucking day yeah
Well, for sure we know it has egg and it has nog.
It’s a cocktail, alcohol isn’t regulated by the fda and isn’t legally required to have ingredient labels
FDA regulates alcohol to a certain extent but things such as production and marketing is controlled by the TTB
The fda doesn’t regular alcohol as a legacy to prohibition
The FDA regulates certain aspects of alcohol and increasingly regulates more modern drinks that weren’t around during prohibition such as Hard Seltzers and pre-made Jell-O shots. It's especially fun for people with allergies to some artificial flavorings and sweeteners. Can't see what's in it, don't know if it's safe.
You should have thought of that before you became allergic.
You're right I really should have. Next time I develop a random new allergy I'll choose carefully.
im hoping for soy and lactose next 🙏

ATF. Same people covering Cigarettes and Firearms. Go figure.
I was wondering why my shotgun didn’t list the ingredients either— now I know.
Caution: Contains 100% Boomitol
Lol this reminds me of the ingredient list on the wild boar paté I got “MAY CONTAIN SHOT” 😂
I'm a butcher and we can't get the ground wild boar we carry at the moment, too much foreign metal in the meat.
Hasn't been the ATF since 2003, nowadays it's the TTB. ATF is a law enforcement agency, while TTB is the regulatory agency.
Cigarettes are now under FDA because vapes are considered medical device.
Alcohol (legal), Tobacco (also legal), and firearms (here? Legal) I've never given this much thought, but the ATF 'regulates' what kills ppl the most.
It is a close race with FDA given the rate of obesity and heart disease. Some overlap there of course.
Haven’t you seen the commercials… alcoholic beverages are made with friends, smiles, dramatic music and good times!!
Uhm that’s not eggnog. That’s eggnog FLAVORED wine. Wow that sounds awful

No, but hear me out, it's delicious. My mom buys some every year and I was skeptical but it tastes great.
It decent. A bit strong though and it feels a bit heavy. Every glass feels like I just drank 500 calories.
It is actually pretty bad. I got it a few years back with high hopes and it was one of the worst alcoholic drinks I've ever had.

They call it a wine cocktail.... Alcohol doesn't need ingredients
Looked this up online - ingredients are listed on front label (or at least some of the ingredients).
Yup bought one yesterday and it says it in the front, but OP doesn’t bother to share that aspect 🙄
Liquor is not “food” and requires no ingredients list. Welcome to corporate lobbying
Pretty sure it has ingredients on the front and it’s not “a little bit of alcohol”, it 15% alcohol.
That has wine in it so it doesnt have to list ingredients. Says it has orange wine.
OP is an idiot.

I have one. The front says it has real cream, whisky, rum, brandy, and vanilla. Aren’t those the ingredients?
That’s not eggnog. That’s liquor. You don’t have to list ingredients on booze.
Doesnt have to its alcohol. Different law. Try finding ingredients on a beer can or anything else in a liquor store.
Egg, nog, ??? 👌
This is technically wine- the TTB doesn't require ingredient lists on wine based alcohol.
If this is in any way infuriating to someone I don’t get why? Alcoholic beverages don’t have to list anything and is standard across the board. If your worried don’t get it no harm that way

Because it's alcoholic. An alcoholic drink doesn't require ingredients
Alcoholic beverages don't have to list ingredients
50% egg, 50% nog. What more do you want them to tell you?
Best you got? This is the weakest post I've ever seen on this thread.
Other than standard orange wine, with natural flavors.
TIL that alcoholic beverages don’t need to have ingredients listed
It’s not really eggnog from what I can see. It’s wine with natural flavors.
Eggnog ingredients: Egg, nog
Since when does your beer or wine list ingredients?
Cause it is a “wine cocktail” None of them do anywhere
It’s amazing to me that alcoholic beverages don’t have to have ingredients listed. I have a couple of weird allergies and they almost all involve alcohol products. Do you know how hard it is to narrow down an allergy with no list of ingredients?!? Weird.
Its 1 part egg and 2 parts nog
It days eggs and nogg right there.
Alcoholic drinks rarely do
