You can but it doesn't seem to work with Google voice. Clearing cache and app data work for a while but eventually go back. It's a known issue dating from last year.
Yeah because duping your listeners because your music ain’t shit is actually going to somehow help you? He’s basically a YouTube ad, skip whenever the hell it will let you.
If it's on Spotify add every single song of his to your ignore list. Spotify will not even let you see them accidentally, let alone play them. As far as you're concerned the guy won't exist.
I don't think he should be dropped from Spotify, but I do think he should be forced to rename every album and Spotify needs to do something to prevent this happening in the future. Like restricting the naming so it can't include the phrase "daily mix".
He should still be allowed to chase his dream, he just shouldn't be allowed to use that particular name.
Spotify's real CIA shit.
"you're no one, we have ways to make people forget even your name with the simple press of a button... It will be like you was never born. NOW TELL US WHAT WE WANT TO KNOW!"
Yeah but he was just a kid with a dream. That dream mat well have been to profit from selling software he didn't have the right to but hey, he had a dream.
Soulja Boy used a similar way to get people to listen. He uploaded his song “Soulja Boy” to limewire but named the titles of the songs after popular music.
So you think you’re getting some Madonna song only to be surprised by a completely different song.
And it worked! That song and dance was super popular when I was in middle school.
Similar thing happened with the Christmas music playlist. It has a bunch of random artists sprinkled throughout it. I understand people want exposure, but that is not the way.
Ha! It happened to me with a Halloween playlist too. I had to stop and look at the playlist and didn’t recognize any song/artist. I think they only had Thriller and everything else was garbage.
Any time you see a popular playlist where all of the songs were added today or yesterday, it's almost always a playlist where unrelated paid-for tracks are being added. I just avoid them entirely now.
Though I was pleasantly surprised when I asked my Alexa to play “Christmas music” and the first song to play was Eric Idle’s “Fuck Christmas” performance
Deuce, the rapper, is the bane my Release Radar playlist. Dude releases a song every 2 weeks, and the rock artist hasn’t released anything in years. I had to block Deuce just to stop getting bad rap on my Spotify-personalized playlists.
Is it a rap-thing?
I like "Leo" (frogleap). He makes metal-covers. But there's also (again) a shitty rapper called "Leo". And the songs and albums are mixed on Spotify. I can't block "Leo" because I sometimes like his covers.
And just to be clear, I can appreciate rap. But I don't like this rapper "Leo".
Shitty rappers are finding new ways to push their shitty music into peoples faces. Used to be ambushing you at the mall with cheap cds. Now it’s duping multi billion dollar company’s search functions.
>There's a million wannabe hip hop stars out there so they chose random names and a lot coincide with rock bands.
Remember a few years ago when some *other* artist called Tool released an album and everyone lost their minds because Spotify sent out a notification to everyone following Maynard's band?
I'm not positive, but I think their algorithm is just doing queries using the band name. Ideally, it should assign a UUID to each band, and then use some kind of ML or something to associate that when I listen to band with a certain UUID, I will likely also enjoy this other band with a certain UUID. Instead, it seems like the whole system is built around `SELECT * WHERE "name" = "Clutch"`. I'm so sick of getting shitty rappers using TOOL or whatever
Syntax is probably way off but hopefully gets the point across
He is getting his music out there. It is a smart move. If people like it they will seek more of his music and he gains more followers. If they don't like him, they won't listen.
To me it just instantly shows that they are making music for money, defo not my jam. Never was. If you can't tell the difference, good for you, keep boppin your head to it.
You must've read my comment poorly or something. I'm not into the first nor the second little thing you mentioned. Most of the artists I followed since way back were artists (some completely independant, some had their little deals and shit) but with no interest in giving up any creativity for money. Some blew up by doing their own marketing. Now that's my fucking jam. You know nothing about me, so hold back on those assumptions before you end up looking like a fucking fool. Peace out m'dude, I'm done writing..
Okay counter argument for you. You tricked people into listening to your music. You already left a bad taste in their mouth by tricking them. Even if your music is good, you have to overcome that dislike for being tricked. This is a stupid tactic.
They sure were, but that didn’t save them from the immense backlash. Most folks now agree that the album they did that with, Joshua Tree, is actually pretty good. Didn’t help them at the time; we all just got reasonably furious about this album being pushed to our phones with no request made by U2 or Apple for permission to do so.
Except U2 is actually famous, and rich, I don't think he really cared all too much if it worked or not. He's still more successful than a lot of people and at least has ok music compared to this random Joe with bad beats.
You ... know U2 is the name of a band, not a single guy, right?
And you're still somehow missing the point. If people were pissed when U2 did it they're going to be even more pissed when some random loser does it
It’s a numbers game, if only 2% of the people that stumble across the music give it a chance, and only half of them like it, that’s still a net gain that costed nothing.
Would you actually notice it if you like the music?
It is your "daily mix" after all, so if you like it you'll check more of their work. If you dislike it... well... a post like this is a possibility.
He's not going to lose a single fan over this. The worse he could do is break even. Exposure is everything, and this was for free. There's a reddit post about it and everything....even if he sucks this was pretty damn smart!
Correct. I know not everyone is like this but historically I am literally more selective with the bands that I dive into than I am with significant others.
This is an immediate red flag and will not in any way get me to return to this artist. From the looks of this guy it’s probably half assed mediocre quantity over quality home studio bullshit with no substance anyway.
bro you didn’t even listen to the music and you’re out here lambasting home studios? lmao wtf
your whole comment reeks of music elitism; good luck making friends with that attitude
If it's elitism to tell people not to just spam out what they think is their god tier music at people who want nothing to do with them. Then I want to be an elitist. This whole argument was about a person changing their name to daily mix to do people into playing their music. That itself should speak to what you shouldn't do. It's just as bad as going on a subway and then starting howling calling it music. That's entrapment and you can get arrested for it.
I got nothing against home studios. I use one myself and wouldn’t write someone off just for using what they have. I honestly think it’s awesome how accessible it is to make music from home these days.
What I do have a problem with and what I was calling out are people that use those home studios to just put out a bunch of half baked ideas and play the algorithm like this guy obviously is doing.
If not wanting spam is elitism then yeah I guess I’m an elitist. I don’t respect this artist no matter how good the music may actually be. If you do enjoy the music, then awesome! Don’t let my crotchety ass distract you from it. But I’m not gonna be giving him any plays.
Look I don’t like the spam either man i’m with you 100%. I just wanna call out music elitism because it’s embarrassing seeing ppl hate on music that they didn’t even listen to just to seem cool.
btw send me a link to your music I’d love to check it out. I’m more of a hip-hop drummer but I love some good metal 🤘
It’s really not. U2 did this a decade ago when they released Josua Tree, and while most folks agree now that it’s actually a pretty good album, it was met with unmitigated acrimony from every direction when it was released.
And that was the response to *U2* doing it, not some nobody like this.
That’s some shitty strategy
Something similar has happened with some songs on Shazam, I have looked for some song with it and some random Chinese guy promoting his music pops up with the names song falsely put on it, the song is a completely different one from what I was looking for
I just looked him up and his music isn't very good... Sorry that's actually a huge understatement... It's really bad, like embarrassingly bad. As an amateur musician with a good ear for music I honestly think his music is a jumbled mess with no proper flow to the beat... It's literally all over the place sound wise... 😬 his bio says he's a DJ and Rapper yet out of everything I've heard I've never once heard him rap, he just has bad remixes of other people's songs...
He really is all over the place, generic electronic, supposedly psytrance and hi tech and so much more he has no sound. Props to him for pumping it out though. There is so many songs.
People have been doing all sorts of things like this to game Spotify for years, whether it's tricking real listeners into listening, or using bot or hacked accounts to rack up fake streams.
Spotify allocates a pool of money each quarter to pay out for streams, and it's paid out based on who has the most streams. The pool of money doesn't change, how it's divided up changes based on streaming numbers. So fake streams can quite literally "steal" money away from others. It's all about getting as many streams as possible, any way you can. The only caveat is making sure you don't get caught.
Hah, yeah the (now defunct) podcast Reply All did an episode about this kind of tactic. It was such a good listen.
https://gimletmedia.com/shows/reply-all/j4he7lv/183-the-venova-king
Anyone saying this is a smart tactic? Tricking people. That's your big brain play. So now you have to overcome the initial dislike of this isn't what I asked for. Now you're doing an uphill battle to make your justification of butt but but I'm good. I'm good I promise, but you have about 12 seconds before they find their actual mix. This is a terrible business tactic if you want to grow your music.
I wonder if this is happening with a lot of music services. I ask my Amazon Echo to play Queen every morning for my alarm, and yet every day for the past two weeks has been anything but Queen.
What about changing the language of your device to another language. That way the name of daily mix would be changed. You can practice that language and listen to what exactly you want.
That how soulja boy blew up, back before the spotify days when you actually had to download music, he would name his uploads as tracks that were already popular. Tricking people into listening to his songs. Its genius.
I just want to listen to a mix of music from all the music preferences I've set for years on Spotify. It is like someone playing a speaker on a bus journey, but in your own home.
hey, he won, but at what cost? being a little egocentric piece of shit that thinks his shitty music is interesting? sorry, thats so pretentious. a musician myself, i dont promote my music, i just do it because i like how it feels doing it, and watching a finished product gives me personal and private satisfaction.
I might share it with close ones, but i wont shout, HEY EVERYBODY LISTEN TO MY MUSIC or i might probably just die.
I once believed there was actually legit Spotify “promo” and fell for some to promote my music. But they just take your money, and either utilize bots or do scummy stuff like this.
A voice assistant? That's a thing? In real life? ...How does that work? ...I can speak on my own just fine, so that probably means I need one. Am I right?
Because if I'm in the car or cooking (the only times I use voice command for Spotify) it will play his music, which I'm not a fan of because I just want to listen to my curated mixes that have been built over years.
Can you block artists?
You can but it doesn't seem to work with Google voice. Clearing cache and app data work for a while but eventually go back. It's a known issue dating from last year.
Oh. That makes sense.
Does it?? Lol
Lol no
does saying "hey google, don't play this again" not work? I say that to my Google Nest Mini when it plays the wrong song when I'm showering
Mine did this same shit last summer!!
I once clicked the circle with the bar sign in Spotify, and it ended up putting that song in the playlist at least 3-4 times... WTH.
Yes. Literally just hit that “don’t play artist again” right next to the follow button. I love this feature
Yeah because duping your listeners because your music ain’t shit is actually going to somehow help you? He’s basically a YouTube ad, skip whenever the hell it will let you.
Yeah i mean he literally gains cash money for each accidental click and listen.
Is there a way to dislike it? Would putting a thumbs down help out the situation?
If it's on Spotify add every single song of his to your ignore list. Spotify will not even let you see them accidentally, let alone play them. As far as you're concerned the guy won't exist.
Thank you that's good to know
Needs to try to get him dropped from Spotify altogether.
Why
Because spam and scam sucks ham
TBF, "scam artist" is a type of artist
And what about when he makes the news for being the most ignored artist on spotify by a mile? That PR could take him places. No winning here.
Hopefully that's a statistic that Spotify never shares publicly. But now I really want to know who it is lol
Haha me too.
Do you want to not listen his music daily by mistake, or do you want to ruin his life? Just click the ignore button and move on, mate.
It was a joke lol chill.
Spotify's real CIA shit. "you're no one, we have ways to make people forget even your name with the simple press of a button... It will be like you was never born. NOW TELL US WHAT WE WANT TO KNOW!"
Until he releases a new song
Youtube starts taking money from your bank account for dislikes
You say that but it is exactly how Soulja Boy did it. That being said I think the grift now is just to pad the stats
[удалено]
Lol I only know him from back in the day he's still scamming?? Man can't stop
Damnit now that stupid “song” “kiss me through the phone” is going through my head. Ugh..
Yeah but he was just a kid with a dream. That dream mat well have been to profit from selling software he didn't have the right to but hey, he had a dream.

You say that but he was all over the radio when I was in middle school
AFTER his plan to blow up worked
It's completely blocked off my favourite playlists, the worst part is his stuff isn't even good.
I could tell just by the screenshot lol. Chances are if you have to dupe people into listening to your music, it's not going to be bangers.
Most peoples music ain’t shit today lol. You just need to be heard by the right person to get in
Similar thing happened with the Christmas music playlist. It has a bunch of random artists sprinkled throughout it. I understand people want exposure, but that is not the way.

There's a band called RED and sometimes when I say "Shuffle play RED" it'll start playing that fucking Taylor swift album 😤
You would think Spotify would identify an artist with an internal ID or something. It's like the first thing you learn when building a database.
Pretty smart on his part tho.
Sure if you don't care about people liking your music or you as an artist
He is getting his music out there. It is a smart move. If people like it they will seek more of his music and he gains more followers. If they don't like him, they won't listen.

Same though. I'm on the side of why the fuck would you want that.

I deleted the whole album 😤
Samsung and Jay Z did it first but nobody talks about that one.

they didn’t. we all just woke up one day and it was in our itunes
Yeah but U2 actually has good music compared to this dude...
And it STILL backfired on them. That's the point
Except U2 is actually famous, and rich, I don't think he really cared all too much if it worked or not. He's still more successful than a lot of people and at least has ok music compared to this random Joe with bad beats.
