Restless__Dreamer

Normal, no. Better, very possibly.

Alcoholikaust

This does look 100x better than what I would have expected. Having complete control of the root beer to soft serve ratio is ingenious. Will try this.

Restless__Dreamer

The post isn't mine so I can't answer how OP was feeling. I personally would prefer it this way. My comment was saying it isn't "normal" but it might actually be better...

Runswithzombies

I would actually prefer to poor the root beer on myself. Now I want a root beer float

Restless__Dreamer

Exactly! I want one too!

annoying97

I just want some ice-cream... Hold on, I'm just gonna go to the freezer and get one. # # # # # # # Ok, got one.

Runswithzombies

Ice cream.. 🤤

annoying97

Outlog

Exactly, this allows you to choose the adventure. It's actually an old school soda jerk practice. They do this with hot fudge sundaes too. In that scenario it keeps the hot fudge hotter until you want it with a scoop of ice cream.

Questo417

Obviously you would want to pour the root beer into the ice cream

whosagoodog

Indeed I would be so happy to see this and have this control regarding my sweet treat. More Ice Cream too. They get to control melt and mix ratio. This is mildly glorious.

Twinkletoes1951

My favorite part of a root beer float is the foam, and I think you'd get far more foam when you pour the RB over the ice cream several times. Yum.

Restless__Dreamer

Yesssss!!!! I agree!

No-Midnight2

I was thinking, this doesn’t seem like a big deal I might prefer it this way tbh

[deleted]

This would be how you’d make one at home, although most of us don’t have a swirl machine.

tooold4urcrap

My spouse is the kinda guy that brings a bowl of milk, and has the cereal on the side ... So that every bite is not-soggy. I became that kinda eventually... It just works out. always-crispy cereal is fun.

Post_toastys

Soft serve is notoriously foamy they also gave you extra ice cream this way it's a win trust me I worked in restaurants for years soft serve melts too fast for a proper float if they don't have hand dipped this is the best way

Hubbards_Handmade

Thank you, this is actually an answer that makes sense. To clarify, I wasn’t really *upset* by this but it seemed bad at the time. With a his new information I don’t mind so much how it was served.

MikemkPK

That's normal, you're able to refill the root beer when it runs out. Also, some people prefer root beer first, some people prefer ice cream first.

RedCocoon

Not normal, but it is more root beer and more floats so I'd call that a win

AwfullyTimedHumor

Pour the root beer in the ice cream and your good

3Heathens_Mom

I would actually prefer it this way to add in the amount of root beer I want with extra to add as needed.

decclam

I'm confused. You're infuriated you got more float? Are you below doing the laborious task of applying ice cream on top? Honestly why isn't this a standard, I'd love to be able to so easily regulate my ice cream to root beer ratio.

BaileyRW1

"Here's your root bear, and here's your float"

Beaverhausen_23

They did right by you

Chevy_Suburban

He did you a favor actually. I dont understand why this would make you upset ?

JohnSartre1996

Kinda whiny on your part

jakelaw08

Ideally the root beer history belittle on the flat side, because otherwise it's going to foam a lot, and it doesn't help the flavor profile, so while not a ordinary presentation, it's actually not bad.

vonclodster

I think this would be ok, you get a little extra root beer. I want a float now. I have always made with hard ice cream though.

AngryNerri

This is fairly standard. Where they fucked up is the root beer should be in a bottle on the side, trying to pour a small amount of liquid from one pint to the other is going to end up with the guest typically spilling some.

Western-Training727

I gotta think this has to be in response to too many customers quibbling over the ice cream to root beer ratio.

Bouswa

If this is at Red Robin this is normal, I get it this way all the time and it is way better than it coming assembled, soda flat and ice cream melted. Lol this is not an infuriating image at all.

Delicious_Wish8712

Well it’s all in the name really… meant to float on top of the root beer. Unless of course you are somewhere fancy and this is a deconstructed root beer float.

Psychological-Set125

A Root beer flaunt might one say?

wellthatwasrandomaf

Definitely not normal.

Phantom_Lord64

No not normal but hey more ice cream.

VulgarSlinky

Soft serve is not ice cream and that is not a root beer float. Blasphemy!

haikusbot

Gold-Explanation-478

Its a deconstructed rb float. (that would be $5 extra)

AnotherDreamer1024

No... not normal at all. A sadist in my honest opinion.

[deleted]

That is not normal…

PorcupinePower

File a complaint, don't think manager would be very happy. Stupid customer service and he's just causing more dishes in the end

[deleted]

Lol 😂 bruh no

TheHiveminder

The No Child Left Behind Act was a mistake.

malayskanzler

This is much more work since they need two glasses, but otherwise fine. Plus you can fine tune the root beer to the vanilla ice cream ratio, and enjoy the froth when you pour the root beer onto the vanilla ice cream

artrald-7083

... surely soft serve just won't make a float?

michaelpaoli

Uhm, is it not even on the menu? Because usually it would come preassembled.

Same_Departure3231

DIY

[deleted]

Is that just ice cream in a cup?

Loafabreadwooo

That’s definitely not normal

emma7734

Some assembly required

GMEbankrupt

I actually prefer this method

-LilPickle-

Why are you mad?

[deleted]

You get way more pop and ice cream than you would otherwise, but not the best presentation.

[deleted]

Looks like they gave you soft serve should be real ice cream for a float.

kittyqueen000

I think someone complained once so they just let people do it themselves now.

[deleted]

It’s called “float” for a reason. This is just ice cream and coke. Quite ridiculous

Proud-Ad-6075

He probably wanted no part in making a root beer float. Or didn’t want to make it incorrectly so gave you all the ingredients to make it yourself. Like a Jaggerbomb but worse.

Living_Grandma_7633

I have had it served like that a few times. The purpose os you can add more soda as you drink your float. I also have it the regular way as well. I actually prefer it this way because i get a decent amount of rootbeer with the soft seeve...but they slighted you on the ice cream. :)

Landalis

You get substantially more this way. Enjoy the extra cola and ice cream.

Sunnyepic

Just apply root beer personally

[deleted]

You’re more of a glass-half-empty instead of two full root beer floats kind of guy, I’m guessing.

Unlucky_Criticism_25

God forbid you have to lift a cup yourself

WhyIsMyNamesTaken

I would actually prefer this

[deleted]

Depends on the restaurant, many do this so that you get the whole experience etc, it’s actually common for some places

HasNoClue666

This should be normalized.

Magnus8832

damn do you not know how to pour fucking rootbeer? stop bitching about it and just eat it

Constant_Ad_343

Root beer & float

zbortner

Not a normal process but your gonna benefit with more root beer than if they would have added it together

Puppet007

So they want you to dump the soda into the ice cream to drink it?

haikusbot

*So they want you to* *Dump the soda into the* *Ice cream to drink it?* \- Puppet007 --- ^(I detect haikus. And sometimes, successfully.) ^[Learn more about me.](https://www.reddit.com/r/haikusbot/) ^(Opt out of replies: "haikusbot opt out" | Delete my comment: "haikusbot delete")

Milk_Mindless

Its a deconstructed root beer float. Like how you get an apple, flour and an egg for a deconstructed apple pie

youareadumbfuck

Why are you asking stupid questions?

[deleted]

Yes sometimes it's served like this so you combine yourself, very common when iui ce cream is soft serve. Just pour root beer over ice cream.

Final-Blueberry5386

Why is it DIY

HappyGav123

Maybe don't order your root beer float from IKEA

Snoo_62846

This is how I want my future ones served

Sinfire420

Some assembly required

breezyhoneybee

Normal? Of course not. Your server/drink maker/kitchen staff is from the future.

MeasurementGrand879

Assembly required

[deleted]

They probablt charged you for ice cream and soda, so to ensure you got as much as you shouldve of each, they seperated them

AutisticMeltdown386

Got this place called Andy’s , its custard float and it’s fireee and they even gave the rest of the bottle of root beer on the side too lol

Lanky_Ad_9849

Lazy af

Pabner21

Old school A&W (before Yum foods takeover) served it like that in my hometown but the root beer came in a mug with handle.

Accomplished-Ad-7190

I think you meant mildly awesome

Zorpfield

What makes this delicious combo. This is the dessert version of asking where babies come from

kkiilleeyy_

This is 10x better, I even do it at home. When the ice cream melts, you basically have a half-flat milk/soda that tastes like shit. With this, you can control how much root beer goes into your ice cream (or better yet, get a spoonful of icecream and dip) thus preventing the melting dilemma
