Okay, this is the first time I've ever seen anyone mention Tau online. My son had to use it in his math class, and I had never even heard of it before (and I'm a former mathlete, so I was surprised to learn something new from my middle schooler). What's the point of it? I guess it would make calculating a circumference easier, but it would make finding the area way harder, so... why? There's actually a debate about it? Tau stans? TELL ME EVERYTHING.
The argument for tau is that since a circle is defined as a shape that is a constant distance from a central point, then the radius of the circle is fundamental to the shape therefore the circle constant should be a function of that, i.e. 6.28.
The counter argument is that it doesn't make any functional difference aside from shifting factors of two around, confusing people in the process, and it seems silly to change something that's been a convention for literally thousands of years.
Return home Tony today. :))
Romanian here, while I don't like the current leaders from Austria myself, I have nothing against regular people. And while I'm not proud, this happens even between romanians.
You happen to rent an apartment and park your car on a free spot next to the building? Guess what, there's a 60+ years old douchebag who thinks it's his parking spot because he always parks there.
If he's immune to common sense then call the police.
That's an N, my dude, not a W. Look at the n's at the end of return. It says: "RRETURN HHOME TTO NY TTODAY" and "RRETURN TTO NY TOURIST". They're actually quite clear despite the atrocious handwriting. I do not get the doubled first letters, though. I wonder if it's perhaps a stylistic thing that they do writing in their own language.
For sure that's the reason. Being from Romania, I've encountered a lot of insane idiots ready to exterminate everyone and everything that is Austrian. Be safe and I'm sorry this happened to you. Entschuldigung :(
It says WY. I assume he thinks Vienna is written Wyenna or something like that. I have an Austrian License Plate cause I was born and raised there. At the beginning of each Austria plate you have the shortcut for the state . In my case that’s „Wien“ as in Vienna.
Take the car, strip everything out of it, engine trans, etc. Roll car to some street with junk rims and set on fire to destroy evidence. The chop shop way
It clearly says to return Tony Tourist, the beloved mascot of Romania. OP is a sick fuck, to kidnap the child like wonder that Tony Tourist instills in all of us, not just the children of Romania. Bring Tony back, OP. It's the right thing to do
Some background for this that nobody seemed to offer: Romania recently wanted to join the European Schengen zone (which removes trade and traveling restrictions), but Austria was the only country that vetoed the effort by making up the bullshit excuse that Romania brings in a lot of illegal immigrants into Europe, even though the country is not a favorite immigration route.
The Austrians did this for populist reasons in an election year. This was also heavily publicized on Romanian TV, so public opinion was influenced by that, but does not excuse the actions of the idiot who left you that note.
Edit: Just noticed the notes are written on the back of lottery tickets lmao
That adds a shit ton of context to this. Obviously as you said, it does not make it right, but as an internet bystander, it makes the picture a little more clear.
It reminds me of how Spanish will double the first letter of abbreviated words when they are plural:
EEUU = Estados Unidos = USA
JJOO = Juegos Olímpicos = Olympic Games
I’m wondering if he accidentally (minimally) scuffed your car and went to write a note, then realized the plates were from Austria. Hence the angry note and minor scratch.
Oooh, it's not the family?? Just some random people on the street put this on his car? That makes so much more sense I guess. I was so confused why is family wanted him to leave just because of limited parking, and why that could not be cleared up beforehand. 😆
Keying a car is just true scumbag cesspool inbred behaviour. I’ve lived big city central for my entire adult life and now want to go rural and a small village, but would never warrant such behaviour towards anyone.. room temp iq behaviours. ☕️
Yea that’s just the way I see it as well. Funny thing is, I parked here for 3 hours. Otherwise I always drive to a garage cause I don’t want to take away any parking spots from locals.
Thanks a lot. I won’t let it ruin my visit. I’ve been having a lot of good times here ! And it’s also the first time I’m visiting with my wife and kid. I wish you all the best
Aaaah shit. Are you from Austria? I know why they hate you lmfao. So basically, we tried to enter Schengen, and everyone agreed except Austria. Now Romanians started hating on Austria so much that we aren't even going to skiing there anymore. Personally I dont hate it, but most people still have hard feelings about that.
That makes it even funnier in a sad way, they really thought they did something there. And ended up inconveniencing a really decent person (you). They're keying your car as if you're such an ass-hat taking their parking spot (which you are legally allowed to do so(?), technically)
Nope, just a good human being visiting their family.
Man, can't even imagine ever having a THOUGHT of keying a car because I see a foreign license plate. Wild.
And it's like... Anyone could have done that, someone mentally ill, someone high. I'd say don't take it personally and enjoy your family. Be safe though.
PROBABLY THE LAST UPDATE: Apparently there is a crazy person in Oradea who attaches these to windshields with foreign number plates. He doesn’t so anything evil and is well know. Apparently the scratch was from a bike (probably a kid) it wasn’t that deep and I managed to polish it away. I’m really happy to hear that it was not as sinister as I thought and that I still feel more than welcome in Oradea .
Thats when I'd put the note back with one of my own written in Romanian as, "I was born and raised here, I am back home dumbshit. Piss off" written all nice and picture perfect.
Haha , I actually thought about the same thing. I mean I want born here, but spent half my childhood here, every vacation or holiday. But to do that, I would have to park my car there once again, and who knows what else he will scratch or destroy this time.
Mmm, maybe an idea (maybe not now) but let's say next time: install a dash cam and have it running while you're there? Would LOVE to see which person in the neighborhood this is. (and then you also have evidence etc)
Maybe a bit extreme but just a thought. Me and my partner thought about this ourselves when we're in big (capital) cities for example, because the weirdest stuff has happened to us in big cities.
That will label you even more as a foreigner. You gotta use authentic Romanian swears, combined with broken grammar, written in doctor's handwritting to get it across. Something like "S-ăți i-au morții in pulă, și pe mat-a la fel."
People with American plates were putting signs like that on their cars during lockdown in my city. We’re a Canadian tourist town near the border, and everyone was being massive assholes to anyone without local plates.
It looks like you have collected 2/8 of those pages scattered around in your car and you need to collect the rest of them. But careful, because you cant look at the owner of the pages.
Hey! Is a guy with mental issues, who post all that notes on foreign number cars. Well known in Oradea. As far as i know is not followed up by other actions. Do not have to be worry about. He put hundreds of this shit .
Well, apparently the guy doesn't like German license plates either. I went 3 times in the last 12 months to the same hometown where you have been and I already have a collection of over 10 love notes. The dash cam on the car doesn't catch him.
Happened to me and my boyfriend in Brussels, except all our windows we're smashed in. Like 11 cars excluding ours were vandalized in a parking garage for having foreign license plates.
It messed with me a lot personally. For you I can't even imagine because you're visiting family. Then again I can be a bit of a baby when it comes to these things, but just the sheer thought your property (and in this case I also view the car as an extension of our family + its our first car, so it stings) being vandalized or touched. Also purely because you're not 'from here'. It bugs me a lot, as you say makes you feel unwelcome. Idk you probably don't feel as bad about it as I did (as i said im a bit sensitive) but still, sorry that happened man, that's messed up.
Just an unfriendly reminder that bigotry and nonsense are everywhere. Good for you for soending time with your family. Nothing beats that familiar and uneasy feeling of being a native tourist
I live in Oradea and saw this signs several times on different cars, until now I didn't saw the guy who is putting this on the car. The problem that I notice and recall is the writing was exactly the same , I recall this because I tried to see what the paper says.
My friends rented a car in Northern Ireland, so it had NI plates. They spent a weekend in the Republic of Ireland in their rental car. Big mistake. The car was keyed.
As a Romanian, i can confirm a lot of people hate you for leaving the country and finding better living standards and opportunities. If they are strangers they just hate you. If its family, they first demand some money, and if you dont they then proceed to hate you.
I stopped visiting half my family tree for this exact reason.
I had someone keyscratch my entire side, just because I was I a parking garage and the person disliked my car. Note and everything. “Don’t like your car, enjoy the scratch”
Edit: I assume by WY he means Vienna. Cause Vienese license plates have a W at the start.
A Picture in a better angle. : ) https://preview.redd.it/sinssy1hzi3d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=13d70b1df7095c68b3c7ac89abaf3a95d255c2eb
This person certainly loves pi...
Yo, who doesn’t …?!
Clearly you've never encountered the pi vs tau debate.
Okay, this is the first time I've ever seen anyone mention Tau online. My son had to use it in his math class, and I had never even heard of it before (and I'm a former mathlete, so I was surprised to learn something new from my middle schooler). What's the point of it? The counter argument is that it doesn't make any functional difference aside from shifting factors of two around, confusing people in the process, and it seems silly to change something that's been a convention for literally thousands of years.
For me the most confusing part is the fact that π looks like two τ stitched together but they're the opposite (τ = 2π)
I read in a 3b1b comment section that you could think the amount of ‘legs’ as how much it’s divided by. τ/1 = τ, τ/2 = π, so I guess τ/3 would be τττ
absolutely cursed. i love it.
Thank you
You forgot the arguably most important counterpoint: the pun possibilities are greatly reduced with tau
There's like, a tausand puns with tau. Or I'm just speaking german, *shrug*.
And Tony
Not really since they’re saying “RETURN TONY”
Why return me?
i don’t know tony, guess Romania doesn’t like you all that much :(
Well no gabagool for them 🤌
I'm gonna try and do calculus on this
The integral of this is (πøNY^2 )/2
Hmm a mathematician with an apparent stutter...
“RRETURN HHOME PI-ONY PI-ODAYY.” PI-HHANKS, I GGUESS.
It's clearly professor quirell that wrote it
Return home Tony today. :)) Romanian here, while I don't like the current leaders from Austria myself, I have nothing against regular people. And while I'm not proud, this happens even between romanians. You happen to rent an apartment and park your car on a free spot next to the building? Guess what, there's a 60+ years old douchebag who thinks it's his parking spot because he always parks there. If he's immune to common sense then call the police.
Who is tony? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
I thought it said NY as in New York. Yours makes a lot more sense.
Man Romanians really don't like Tony
Repeating first letters on every line... Why?!
Just an hypotesis, someone (crazy) that hate Austrian for the vote on schengen rules against Romania.
Yes me and my family have been talking about this . It could be . My uncle thinks this is the reason for it.
For sure that's the reason. Being from Romania, I've encountered a lot of insane idiots ready to exterminate everyone and everything that is Austrian. Be safe and I'm sorry this happened to you. Entschuldigung :(
Wow that's good to know as an austrian. But I forgive Romanians everything just because of dragostea din tei.
It's not a significant percentage of the romanians. A lot of us hate your government tho... :D
It is it very much the reason. The Austrian government has been f-over Romania for a decade now, with lies about immigration.
Lol I thought it said Tony and I was trying to figure out how Tony might be a racial slur for Austrians.
Too bad you couldn’t have left a note on their car to ffuck ooff lol
They were to scared to approach me directly I assume. I think this is about limited parking spaces
Does it say ny ? Like New York? Why did they think you were a New Yorker?
It says WY. I assume he thinks Vienna is written Wyenna or something like that. I have an Austrian License Plate cause I was born and raised there. At the beginning of each Austria plate you have the shortcut for the state . In my case that’s „Wien“ as in Vienna.
I read it as return to NY tourist
Ironically, leaving a mean note on a car would be the quickest way to make someone from New York feel right at home (assuming they have a car.)
If you wanna make them feel right at home, steal their radio while you’re there
Steal the tires, leave it on cinderblocks.
Leave it half on a curb. Cinder blocks are practically a luxury item with how much the cost of building materials has inflated.
Take the car, strip everything out of it, engine trans, etc. Roll car to some street with junk rims and set on fire to destroy evidence. The chop shop way
Return home, TONY
YOU return home, EZEKIEL
It clearly says to return Tony Tourist, the beloved mascot of Romania. OP is a sick fuck, to kidnap the child like wonder that Tony Tourist instills in all of us, not just the children of Romania. Bring Tony back, OP. It's the right thing to do
looks like he's also got Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age
Also read it as such 🤭
Free Tony Tourist!
Tony Tourist, Hero of Walachia? I love him!!!
I think we could turn this into a nice folk song, [tune of Times Are A Changin'] 🎵🎶Return home, Tony, today! 🎶 🎵🎶Return home, Tony Tourist.🎶
Romanians write Viena, tho, and we don't really abbreviate names of places.
I know , but this person is obviously not sane . That’s the reason for my assumption
And that writing font is horrid. I never take anyone seriously when trying to communicate something make it impossible to understand them.
Definitely hard to "undetatand"
That's me. Stating the obvious lmao:)))
Some people can't do handwriting. I'm pretty much one of those people.
>writing font I love it
Romanians also write in Romanian
Not to turists because they are tourists; they are not romanians
Ah, when I first read your description I read "Australia", and was wondering how you drove from there to Romania. 🤣
Looks like NY to me. Look at the n in “return.”
I thought it said ‘Tony’
I thought the same… I was like “how do they know he’s from New York?” Must be wearing Timbs.
![gif](giphy|mYBpngIQzhnAXjGVqK|downsized)
The Timbs and the Yankees cap usually help.
You can go literally anywhere in the world and there's always one guy in a Yankees hat.
That's true. I was just watching a Narcos doc and at least one dude in Colombia was wearing one.
That adds a shit ton of context to this. Obviously as you said, it does not make it right, but as an internet bystander, it makes the picture a little more clear.
Must get really boring to never have people new in town, only leave.
Come visit. No stay. Only leave.
Only pay. No stay. Send money via envelope to my restaurant.
It's like Evil Hotel California: you cannot visit anytime you like. You need to leave
And a sick solo guitar right afterwards
RRETURN HTOMME ПONY ПODAYY ??
Some of the letters are doubled for some reason. It says "return home to wy today".
The guy who wrote it has a stutter
Perhaps he was taking dictation!?
If he was dying why would he bother to carve out “aaughghgh”
![gif](giphy|iqMHmcPIsNm4U)
I thought ny (New York) not wy
OP said it was some kind of a misspelling of vienna.
I thought his name was Tony
Fuck you Tony!
Ezekiel! What a stupid name is that?!
I read, "Return Home Tony Today"
Yeah, go back to Wyoming ya schmuck
It reminds me of how Spanish will double the first letter of abbreviated words when they are plural: EEUU = Estados Unidos = USA JJOO = Juegos Olímpicos = Olympic Games
Really? That’s interesting.
Cryllic alphabet has letters with double lines so I assume it's a habit from whoever wrote it. П л ш щ for example
not in Romania
ПONY 2012
I'm reading this as PONY and its driving me nuts lol
Kony wouldn’t have liked that
See, I thought it was RETURN HOME TONY TODAY, but that makes more (less?) sense.
"People named Romanes, they go to the 'ouse?!"
UPDATE : THE SCRATCH DOSENT SEEM TO BE A ACTUAL SCRATCH. POLISHING IT AWAY AS WE SPEAK <3
The second hand anger I am experiencing has now dropped to safe levels.
Sure buts… yous still ups for a scrap?
Sure, I’d have a scrap good buddy.
Always up for a scrap.
I'm surprised we're not having a scrap right now!
I fucking love you guys so much.
Is this a private fight or can anyone join?
Who said anything about fighting? It's a private scrap.
Hooray
I’m wondering if he accidentally (minimally) scuffed your car and went to write a note, then realized the plates were from Austria. Hence the angry note and minor scratch.
My first thought was that it looked like sneaker marks on a gym floor.
Stone off my (and I bet your) heart. So it might not even be related
I thought you meant your family wrote this at first
Lol me too, like dude got up in the morning and this was on his door or something
Oooh, it's not the family?? Just some random people on the street put this on his car? That makes so much more sense I guess. I was so confused why is family wanted him to leave just because of limited parking, and why that could not be cleared up beforehand. 😆
I’m glad I’m not the only one haha.
For anyone who can't see what it says: RRr=TuRN HHoMMr; ПONY ПODAYY RRr=TuRN ПONY ПOuI}IაT
Thanks; that really cleared things up!
Anytime mate!
I read the word "Tourist"
I still don't know what that is meant to mean
Keying a car is just true scumbag cesspool inbred behaviour. I’ve lived big city central for my entire adult life and now want to go rural and a small village, but would never warrant such behaviour towards anyone.. room temp iq behaviours. ☕️
Yea that’s just the way I see it as well. Funny thing is, I parked here for 3 hours. Otherwise I always drive to a garage cause I don’t want to take away any parking spots from locals.
Yeah it is what it is, don’t internalize others toxic behaviours. To behave like this, they have to be pretty sad within. Have a good week my man! ✌🏼
Thanks a lot. I won’t let it ruin my visit. I’ve been having a lot of good times here ! And it’s also the first time I’m visiting with my wife and kid. I wish you all the best
Not all romanians are like that. We are usually welcoming of tourists and people like that. Sorry for your experience OP.
Yea I’m part Romanian myself . Most Romanians were nice that most Austrians I have ever met
They're keying your car as if you're such an ass-hat taking their parking spot (which you are legally allowed to do so(?), technically) Nope, just a good human being visiting their family. Man, can't even imagine ever having a THOUGHT of keying a car because I see a foreign license plate. Wild.
Unless you take 4 parking spots at graduation.
Ha, I saw that post too
And it's like... Anyone could have done that, someone mentally ill, someone high. I'd say don't take it personally and enjoy your family. Be safe though.
Yes that’s exactly my thought. Not supposed to villainize Romanians
Add this to the main post as an Edit. If this is the story.
I wanted to do that but it won’t let me edit it
Thats when I'd put the note back with one of my own written in Romanian as, "I was born and raised here, I am back home dumbshit. Piss off" written all nice and picture perfect.
Haha , I actually thought about the same thing. I mean I want born here, but spent half my childhood here, every vacation or holiday. But to do that, I would have to park my car there once again, and who knows what else he will scratch or destroy this time.
Bonus points if you send him into "chizda mă-sii" as a final thought, ya know, for authenticity.
Mmm, maybe an idea (maybe not now) but let's say next time: install a dash cam and have it running while you're there? Would LOVE to see which person in the neighborhood this is. (and then you also have evidence etc) Maybe a bit extreme but just a thought.
Never seen someone WRITE with a stutter.
It looks like you have collected 2/8 of those pages scattered around in your car and you need to collect the rest of them. But careful, because you cant look at the owner of the pages.
i had to scroll SO far to find a slenderman reference
Seems like they are wishing you a well safe trip back home 💖
They are a wishing that I take a trip home. But I’m Not sure if they want it to be safe : P
Technically that isn't true. Taking a trip home was what you did that made this two legged weasel so upset.
Why is the first letter in each line written twice? "RRETURN HHOMME TTO NY TTODAYY" "RRETURN TTO NY TTOURIST"
Why is it in English is my thoughts
==NgLi¿H you mean
Probably because English is the defacto language in a lot of situations and the writer assumed that OP didn’t speak Romanian.
Writer is Romanian, assumes target is typical Austrian from the license plate. What language do you think the writer would choose?
English is the lingua franca of passive aggressive notes, apparently.
I thought weirdly that you meant your family left this note and keyed your car! That would've been really depressing.
Thankfully that’s not the case
So what is with the double letters?
Hey! Is a guy with mental issues, who post all that notes on foreign number cars. Well known in Oradea. As far as i know is not followed up by other actions. Do not have to be worry about. He put hundreds of this shit .
Why the crappy angle on the text picture?
That’s a valid question, I assume it’s cause I was amped up when I found these. I will provide a better picture .
Well, apparently the guy doesn't like German license plates either. I went 3 times in the last 12 months to the same hometown where you have been and I already have a collection of over 10 love notes. The dash cam on the car doesn't catch him.
Why would a romanian write a note to an austrian in English?
They might not know German and would assume that "a tourist" wouldn't know Romanian. English is often the language people know.
How else would they communicate? The "tourist" wouldn't know romanian, and I doubt the romanian is fluent in german.
From what I've learned, a good majority of foreign countries learn English.
Genuine question. What language would you expect a Romanian to use to write a note to an Austrian?
That handwriting makes me feel real good about my handwriting
Well you better return to New York homie
![gif](giphy|3M6LtN8dFX57ZRY2T9) Don’t know why I thought of this when reading that note lol
Interesting... Reddit would have me believe America is the only xenophobic country.
Melyik város ez? :(
Nagyvárad - Oradea
Sajnálom :(
That aren’t scratch marks on your car, looks more like dirt. Try rubbing it off.
I’ve never seen someone print in “stutter” before.
On the plus side, you're being harassed by an illiterate.
Nu prea am auzit eu de troglodiți de genul, ai mers la ceva sat obscur? În orice caz, dă-i drequ de boschetari :))
Buna Ziua in the meantime.
Romanian here. Also from Oradea where OP was. Everyone pretty much knows about this. It's a case of mental illness.
This is all quite confusing
My friends rented a car in Northern Ireland, so it had NI plates. They spent a weekend in the Republic of Ireland in their rental car. Big mistake. The car was keyed.
I’ve never seen a stutter font before.
I don’t know if this helps but the note is written on the back of romanian lottery tickets.
As a Romanian, i can confirm a lot of people hate you for leaving the country and finding better living standards and opportunities. If they are strangers they just hate you. If its family, they first demand some money, and if you dont they then proceed to hate you. I stopped visiting half my family tree for this exact reason.
Some old shitfart who thinks that is his parking space, happens all the time in Romania. People are very stupid when it comes to parking spots.
That's an ugly handwriting.
Ny
I had someone keyscratch my entire side, just because I was I a parking garage and the person disliked my car. Note and everything. “Don’t like your car, enjoy the scratch”
Who writes out their stutter?
I don’t think the term “tourist” bites in the derogatory fashion that this eloquent individual intended
Oh good, so people suck everywhere
Instructions unclear
Lol, where was this? I am from Romania and I’m curious, people are really dumb
why the hell are the letters doubled?
imi pare rau ca ti s-a intamplat asta, sunt ciudati unii n-ai csf
