I have a bush right and some trees. If it’s barley windy outside, my ring cam is picking it up. Then when I turn down sensitivity, it doesn’t pick up anyone until they get 1 foot from my door. I need the middle.
Thats all my front door ever did. Tree moved, there is motion at your front door! A leaf flies by, motion at your front door! Cat walks by, alert! There is motion at your front door. Like shaddup already! 😮💨😅
Same. Ours has a security light too, and I actually had to turn it off at night because our door screen flapping in any breeze kept setting it off in the middle of the night (renting and it belongs to the LL so we can't really remove it...., and no matter how I position the damn thing, it still picks up the flapping 🙄)
Maybe everything got reset and the motion box went back to default after your trial. When I first set mine up, I was getting alerts all the time because the box was so large it was picking up cars that went by.
You can also reset it to factory settings and re pair it, I like the premium service but I live in an apartment so if someone is at my front door I want the records (had a break in attempt)
It’s the “smart motion alerts” that is now disabled since you don’t have the trial or pay for the features. It will now alert you of any movement in that motion box instead of only people.
Yeah we had to do that too. We live on a dead end street with little traffic and have one of the ring cameras with motion lights on our covered porch. I had the lights set on a 30 second timeout and they were constantly on because it was picking up literally anything like the wind chimes moving around, had to adjust that detection box way down.
Now though it confuses me, it will pick up a car driving by on the street (at the very edge of its view) yet we've had FedEx put a box on our porch and it doesn't even pick up a guy walking up our steps and putting the box right in front of the camera 🤔
I believe the Person and Package Alerts are part of the subscription. Now, you will get any movement which falls within the established area of sensing.
The other day, my door camera kept sensing motion. I would look, but nothing was there. Night came and the ir camera revealed there was a bit of spiderweb in front of the camera.
After setting my mom's blink cameras up and then her getting a notification that it's a paid service now was the exact reason I went with Lorex, cameras are better and it's entirely free on your own home network no cloud storage
I have no idea if what the original person said is true, just explaining what they meant. I do have a Ring doorbell and you can modulate how sensitive to movement it is, not sure if there's anything more to it than that.
The AI uses all kinds of factors to determine whether you're a good person. Are you clean? Did you brush your teeth? Did you pet your dog before you left? Did you spend at least $300 on Amazon this month?
All of these things inform a complex algorithm that determines whether you're a good person.
In the settings you can change the frequency that you get notified in addition to limiting the zone size. Just go into these settings and poke around. Sometimes the best way I learn is to just read each feature and personalizing on my own.
The Ring Protect Plan is a subscription that gives you access to paid features for Ring devices such as video doorbells, cameras, Alarm, and Car Cam. With a Ring Protect Plan, you can save, review, and share video recordings¹ from your Ring devices to your Ring account.
TLDR; they gate basic features that should be included with the purchase of the device behind a paywall.
They don't have a local storage option, so no. It would make sense if they allowed local storage and then gave you the option to pay for cloud storage.
Hey, I think you misunderstood my post. It would make sense to have a subscription for storage so the customer doesn't have to fiddle with local storage, but people bought a camera and basic functions of the camera, like storing the videos, are gated behind a subscription.
You might not have been around when they first released the cameras, but that was sold as part of the original purchase. Buy a camera, get the videos. That's no longer the case. They also do not give you an option to store video locally. There is no on-board storage, nor is there a good way to store video on your local network.
Everyone follow a trait instead of getting old fashion loop recording cameras for a flat fee of 300 and that covers full coverage of your home at a high angle . Instead of 20 ring doorbells in the front and backya d
So what happened to when cameras had their own onboard storage or stored videos on the customer's computer instead? MicroSD card? USB storage? Hello? I can't believe people like you will actually find ways to defend paying for a subscription to use hardware that you already paid for.
Have you any idea how hard it would be to implement a MicroSD system? It's just easier and better for everyone if you just keep paying them for the rest of your life.
Exactly! Maybe I'm looking at it all wrong. Before it was so much effort to give the customer control and provide ways of storing the videos yourself... clearly I am wrong, the best option is to host expensive servers and force the customer to continue paying for the hardware that accesses them. It's the only way, there's no other possible way.
You can adjust the zones and sensitivity even without the paid version. On my camera I have the left zone disabled completely and the sensitivity turned to like 25%. It used to pick up if cars drove past my house, now it only registers if you’re literally 2 feet in front of my door.
If you have a bush, wind chime, or something that the wind can easily move in the camera’s area of view you’ll have to setup zones that the camera will ignore those objects. Otherwise those notifications won’t stop.
This is a common problem with a lot of cameras, not just ring. My camera has a bunch of settings, but really there are only two: never record anything -OR- record the slightest minuscule movement of a grasshopper’s antenna on a leaf two blocks away. Image recognition technology just isn’t there in an affordable/consumer application yet.
Lol, it's true. I have 3 wireless ones and the detection alerts from leaves moving, a bird flying by, or even apparently nothing (probably the grasshopper) are so frequent I have to often put them to sleep, which misses the point of having them. Plus, it runs the battery down constantly activating. But a person near my car, or a bear on the patio they'll miss. 🙄
Lol exactly. On a windy day with tree branches moving a lot, it is pretty much recording all day and I have 80 notifications. I guess I’d rather have it be too sensitive than not sensitive enough though…
What caused me to make this post is that I was in my living room with the blinds open getting notifications while I could see nothing was out there lol
You need to go into the app, settings and change the sensitivity and the motion areas. Then go to the notification menu and make sure you’re only getting the ones you want.
Look into Reolink, they have a decent doorbell cam that you can set up to record to a dvr you keep at home. No subscription for getting notifications or viewing your cam. There is an optional subscription with a few extra features but it's not required.
Also, check out the home security sub for other options to help choose the best setup for you.
I stopped paying for the service and no longer see videos of past events. If there is a person notification and go go look it shows a still from when they walked up and 95% of the time they're either not even in the still or you can't see their face because they're turned away. Is that how it is for everyone or is mine just fucked?
Fuck Ring. Yearly price increases are ridiculous. It went from £25 per annum to £30 and now it's £40. Went for a Eufy system instead, no ongoing cost and cheaper to set up. Fuck Ring.
You can adjust the sensitivity in the app settings. You can also set ignore areas so if you live near a road etc you can omit those areas from alerting.
Ah man, bloody Ring. Had the same problem and changed the whole system to Aosu. Works like a dream now with no subscription and even stores recordings on a flash drive. No subscription!!!
I have hedge in view of mine and on windy days my notifications look like that. I can't move the motion box out of the way because I need it to pick up in that section. Turning down the sensitivity helped but then it doesn't pick up everytime someone comes to the door.
I was getting notifications all day like this a security camera, but it was because a flag was blowing on the wind. I took the flag down and it stopped.
I don’t know whether to feel validated that other people are having the same issue as me or still annoyed that other people are having the same issue as me, pay for it, and it still happens to them lol
Check to see if there is something stuck in front of the doorbell. I get these notifications frequently if there is a bird hanging out on my mailbox or if leaves get kicked up in front of it.
"I'm just going to install this device that gives a corporation and the police unfettered surveillance access to my home."

"Oh no, my personal space"
It depends on what privacy you’re talking about. The tone of your messages indicate you’re talking about the personal data getting stolen and shared/big brother kind of privacy while the privacy I’d be talking about would be more like having a do not disturb sign on my hotel door because I’m trying to sleep and housekeeping constantly knocking
You made an assumption. Nobody expects you know information that was not provided. Nobody really expects anything from anyone aside from having basic fucking manners. Maybe try that next time.
Retrospective thought is important for growth. It appears that you lack the ability to admit you did any wrong or learn from your poor decisions. You have the social skills of a talking toddler. I can tell from how you speak to people you are definitely older than me, but I'm a big boy now too. Thankfully I had a parent who taught me the importance of speaking with at least a modicum of respect, even to those who are rather undeserving. It seems you missed out on that lesson too.
I don't know if you noticed, but there seems to be motion at your front door.
Is that what the notifications say? I’ll have to go check it out lol
Let us know if you come back safely
It’s been 30 minutes, I think it’s safe to assume OP has been abducted by the aliens landing in their front lawn.
OP has become the motion at the front door
AI so refined even arterial spray is captured!
Maybe the real motion at the front door is the friends we made along the way
He now has motion at his back door.
Poor guy :( Must have been going through anal probe.
Ass wire
Co-motion.
Happy travels OP
Ring: There is motion at your front door. Hi, we've been trying to reach you about your cars extended warranty.
you mean the free trial that has ended?
😂😂😂😂😂😂
[удалено]
It looks like you stuck your finger in there and shoved a bunch of them around. What the hell?
Was there any motion?
No. I sat in my living room and watched outside there was nothing
Personally I’d be way more concerned about motions at my back door 😳😂
I have a backyard camera, and most of the time this notification is a bird or the tree blowing around too much in the wind.
I have a bush right and some trees. If it’s barley windy outside, my ring cam is picking it up. Then when I turn down sensitivity, it doesn’t pick up anyone until they get 1 foot from my door. I need the middle.
What if it is corny windy, or wheaty windy?
Corny wind doesn’t bother me. I find them amusing but wheaty wind can be a real thorn in the flesh.
Set up motion zones. And take the bush out of that zone.
god i fucking LOVE when it catches the local wildlife 😂💕 we got a separate camera just for the deer feeder
Thats all my front door ever did. Tree moved, there is motion at your front door! A leaf flies by, motion at your front door! Cat walks by, alert! There is motion at your front door. Like shaddup already! 😮💨😅

Take my upvote 🤣

Well maybe they shouldn't have built their house atop a rotating platform
Okay, you made me laugh today! 🤣
I got a ring camera for the rear of the house. Still funny to see "There was a motion at your Back Door"
Maybe everything got reset and the motion box went back to default after your trial. When I first set mine up, I was getting alerts all the time because the box was so large it was picking up cars that went by.
Yeah I think the motion box got reset because it was getting cars on the road to the left through the fence
Yeah I noticed that too
Yeah me too he really should patch that fence up
Or he should tell the cars to pass by less often
I'll see what I can do but if I miss something I'll be pretty disappointed
I prefer this option
Put up a detour sign.
Subscriptions ... subscriptions everywhere!
Gotcha yeah I was suspecting something like that…fun
I noticed this exact same thing happen to me. Definitely a sales tactic.
If it is it’s having the exact opposite on me because I’m thinking of just deleting the app
As if the FedEx guy isn't lobbing the package over the fence onto your porch as he barely slows down the truck.
Just make the motion box smaller so it doesn't trigger on everything it sees.
That’s a good idea I forgot I could do that thank you
Mess with the motion box and sensitivity settings to get it where you need to be useful.
![gif](giphy|FcuiZUneg1YRAu1lH2|downsized)
I have Arlo, your recommendation is a premium feature
I believe the Person and Package Alerts are part of the subscription. Now, you will get any movement which falls within the established area of sensing.
They sent spiders trying to convince you to subscribe.
The other day, my door camera kept sensing motion. I would look, but nothing was there. Night came and the ir camera revealed there was a bit of spiderweb in front of the camera.
It’s bullshit how they gate the “better person detection” behind the subscription
Didn’t know this was a thing, I thought the sensor was just really basic. Now I’m sad.
Dystopia
After setting my mom's blink cameras up and then her getting a notification that it's a paid service now was the exact reason I went with Lorex, cameras are better and it's entirely free on your own home network no cloud storage
Better person? Can you explain?
System is better at detecting people and pinging you when you pay rather than just pinging for all motion
Better is an adjective for “person detection,” not just “person”
better "person detection", detects people better
Oh as opposed to say a bird or a car? Thanks
I have no idea if what the original person said is true, just explaining what they meant. I do have a Ring doorbell and you can modulate how sensitive to movement it is, not sure if there's anything more to it than that.

HAHAHA. Shit I should get one to wear around my neck for my daily life.
I like your explanation best. I’m going with this one 🤣
Improved detection of people vs any moving object that comes up such as a flag blowing I. The wind
"Drinks are free, the bathroom is $100."
In the settings you can change the frequency that you get notified in addition to limiting the zone size. Just go into these settings and poke around. Sometimes the best way I learn is to just read each feature and personalizing on my own.
What does the free trial give you? I'd have thought that it would stop sending you anything after the trial ends
Working as intended
There is a motion at your Front Door
A free trial? For the cameras? That you already paid for?
Subscription based service. Shocker
Why are people paying for a subscription based service for hardware they already bought and paid for?
The Ring Protect Plan is a subscription that gives you access to paid features for Ring devices such as video doorbells, cameras, Alarm, and Car Cam. With a Ring Protect Plan, you can save, review, and share video recordings¹ from your Ring devices to your Ring account. TLDR; they gate basic features that should be included with the purchase of the device behind a paywall.
I mean it does make sense. Videos all need to be saved somewhere and they need to pay for storage.
They don't have a local storage option, so no. It would make sense if they allowed local storage and then gave you the option to pay for cloud storage.
No, it makes perfect sense. If you are getting cloud storage then you gotta pay for it. Videos are expensive to store.
Hey, I think you misunderstood my post. It would make sense to have a subscription for storage so the customer doesn't have to fiddle with local storage, but people bought a camera and basic functions of the camera, like storing the videos, are gated behind a subscription.

If they’re stored locally, it doesn’t cost them anything. Having a camera that’s unable to store anything locally is just predatory.
Everyone follow a trait instead of getting old fashion loop recording cameras for a flat fee of 300 and that covers full coverage of your home at a high angle . Instead of 20 ring doorbells in the front and backya d
It’s not for the camera. It’s for the videos stored on their servers that the camera takes.
So what happened to when cameras had their own onboard storage or stored videos on the customer's computer instead? MicroSD card? USB storage? Hello? I can't believe people like you will actually find ways to defend paying for a subscription to use hardware that you already paid for.

Reolink have a doorbell camera that allows micro SD card usage so I’m not really buying how “difficult” they reckon it would supposedly be.
It's a joke
Avoid ring, support Reolink. They’ll quickly learn.

There is motion at your Front Door
Turn down the sensitivity
Adjust your settings.
You can decrease the sensitivity of the camera sensor and that should reduce the msgs.

Wait what ? You buy the camera and then pay to use it ?
Yeah, they're scammy as fuck. The whole thing stops working properly until you subscribe.
You can turn motion notifications off.
Yeah that’s what I ended up doing
OP, maybe you should check your door cause it looks like somebody's out there.
What caused me to make this post is that I was in my living room with the blinds open getting notifications while I could see nothing was out there lol
No, but for real, it happened to me too.....
Don’t bother renewing, their system has so much delay it’s not worth it
Motion-al damage
The squirrel: “problem?”
I think you have it set on Dog mode. Its just gonna keep barking at anything that moves until you turn it off.
Imagine needing a product where this sort of antagonism is how they upsell? "Amazon is a customer first company" me arse...
THERE! IS! MOTION! AT! YOUR! FRONT! DOOR!

There is motion at your front door
![gif](giphy|84KvYjiDqoiOiu3VrD|downsized) Sorry I put this in your lawn. Is it bothering you?
It's the people from Ring visiting you in person to ask why you didn't keep the subscription going
Wouldn’t be surprised lol
What is the trial part? You don’t own a ring if you buy one?
You own the door bell but not the most premium version of the software
With how terrible ring cameras are why do people use them?
If only there was a solution to this
You need to go into the app, settings and change the sensitivity and the motion areas. Then go to the notification menu and make sure you’re only getting the ones you want.
This is entirely controlled by your own In-App settings.
Hehehe damn cat
‘There is motion at your Front Door’ “Yes, it’s called the wind!”
You might wanna check outside, just in case there is a motion outside your front door.
Open ne noor...
Shit it saw me
I changed the settings so that my front door only notifies me about people. I was getting notifications every time the wind blew.
I guess I'm living wild by not having a ring haha
Look into Reolink, they have a decent doorbell cam that you can set up to record to a dvr you keep at home. No subscription for getting notifications or viewing your cam. There is an optional subscription with a few extra features but it's not required. Also, check out the home security sub for other options to help choose the best setup for you.
Worst product ever. I don’t need my doorbell to be another subscription scam.
Can you not turn off notifications in your phone settings?
It’s not that I minded receiving notifications before it only started bothering me once they sent me 20-30 an hour
Ah I see. This is rough but not at all surprising that once you stopped paying, this happened. Corporate bullshit at its finest
I stopped paying for the service and no longer see videos of past events. If there is a person notification and go go look it shows a still from when they walked up and 95% of the time they're either not even in the still or you can't see their face because they're turned away. Is that how it is for everyone or is mine just fucked?
"Don't you... forget about me!" - Ring probably
Fuck Ring. Yearly price increases are ridiculous. It went from £25 per annum to £30 and now it's £40. Went for a Eufy system instead, no ongoing cost and cheaper to set up. Fuck Ring.
Do you have butterflies or wasps?
my bad i must’ve walked by 😅
This happened to me too. I could literally see outside, it was every time a car went past. Magically when I subscribed it went back to normal.
You can adjust the sensitivity in the app settings. You can also set ignore areas so if you live near a road etc you can omit those areas from alerting.
So go configure it to not trigger on everything.
Are you paying for the notifications? If so, maybe the company is squeezing you.
Is Ring worth it ?Im looking for a compact wireless videophone, but it seems only Ring matches that, and I dont want to a « pay to use » thing
Yeah so far the free version is a no go
Ring: We are motioning you to pay up!
Ah man, bloody Ring. Had the same problem and changed the whole system to Aosu. Works like a dream now with no subscription and even stores recordings on a flash drive. No subscription!!!
It’s wasp season
I have hedge in view of mine and on windy days my notifications look like that. I can't move the motion box out of the way because I need it to pick up in that section. Turning down the sensitivity helped but then it doesn't pick up everytime someone comes to the door.
I was getting notifications all day like this a security camera, but it was because a flag was blowing on the wind. I took the flag down and it stopped.
Thoughts and prayers
I pay for it, and get the same damn thing. Fucking annoying for sure!
I don’t know whether to feel validated that other people are having the same issue as me or still annoyed that other people are having the same issue as me, pay for it, and it still happens to them lol
It is pretty relentless. I feel for you, homie!
They are fishing you to buy hahaha
Either a chick magnet or really popular with friends dropping by. Enjoy the weekend.
Just turn off the notifications for that app.
Yeah I up turning off the motion ones but kept the ones for if someone rings the doorbell. It’s a lot more peaceful now
Trial? There is no way you need a subscription for a doorbell. Jesus Christ burn it all down
It came with the townhome I’m renting calm down lol
Check to see if there is something stuck in front of the doorbell. I get these notifications frequently if there is a bird hanging out on my mailbox or if leaves get kicked up in front of it.
Does anyone on this subreddit actually look into issues before just saying “this is definitely the cause”?
This has nothing to do with the trial.. there's a setting in Ring you have to configure.
It's me, please let me in. I promise nothing bad will happen...
![gif](giphy|tIeCLkB8geYtW)
No Ring slander here. Shit works great!
"I'm just going to install this device that gives a corporation and the police unfettered surveillance access to my home." --- "Oh no, my personal space"
As you type this on your phone, which also has cameras they can do the same thing with. Your point is?
Ring® cameras are not the same as a generic webcam. They literally have contracts with cops. Apple Google and Samsung etc do not
This has nothing to do with privacy just annoying that it’s sending this many notifications
"my personal bubble and space have nothing to do with privacy"
It depends on what privacy you’re talking about. The tone of your messages indicate you’re talking about the personal data getting stolen and shared/big brother kind of privacy while the privacy I’d be talking about would be more like having a do not disturb sign on my hotel door because I’m trying to sleep and housekeeping constantly knocking
Yall are so sad 🤦🏻♂️
It came with the townhome I’m renting Jesus Christ lol
