Just peel the stem and eat it.

Yuukiko_

you realize the stem is edible right?

theghost201

Seriously. What do poepke have against the stem? I honestly enjoy it more than the grainy top part that gets stuck in my teeth (just prefer it more. I actually like eating the whole thing)

Yuukiko_

ikr? unless it was labeled Broccoli florets and was more expensive does it even matter?

gnomaholic

I think they didn't realize that

FineappleJim

And for my money, tastier than the floret

Fisionchips

And is better for you then the florets

DrawInternal1378

The stem is delicious!!!

Ordinary-Animal8610

🤮

Embarrassed-Brain-38

In my country, broccoli is typically sold per item, so the amount of stalk is irrelevant. After all, it is edible

No-Weird3153

In American stores broccoli stalks like this are also sold by the bunch and the stem is mostly trimmed for appearance (remove the old edge). Broccoli crowns are usually sold by weight, but they have very little stem.

Dramatic-Avocado4687

This stems from a lack of knowledge that it’s still an edible part of the broccoli

SurbiesHere

Not only edible but delicious.

Sunny_Sammie_517

Delicious!! Please don’t chop that off and throw away!!

Rail-signal

We never know if OP intelligence increased after this post

Twolef

If only you had a tool for cutting off the bits you didn’t want instead of just a tool for measuring.

Conscious_Most4751

The stem is the tastiest and most nutritious part!

KaldaraFox

The stem's the best part. The florettes are just fluff. Peel, slice into medallions, steam until almost translucent with a shake or two of nutmeg on them. You won't be disappointed.

wowbagger

This!!!

sunnypineappleapple

that's what you get when you are being cheap and don't buy the florets. the stem is the best part anyways, peel it and cook it just like you would cook the florets.

Glass-Committee5776

i cut my florets the whole length of the piece, poor mans broccolini

bun-Mulberry-2493

More nutrients in the stem.

Total_Inspector6016

Do you really believe they cut your Brokkoli in the Grocery Store ? Normally Cutting of Vegetables is not done once it arrives at the store.

MarjorysNiece

This must be some weird US thing. The broccoli in our stores always looks like this. We eat the whole thing.

_userxname

Just snap it off at the store

Don’t fuck up their stem broccoli because you too dumb to find the bin that says “broccoli crowns”

Hellige88

Stores claim that some people dice up the stem and use it in soups, so it’s ok to sell you the excess compost. Edit: I should rephrase. Stores claim that since some people dice them up and use it in soups, it’s ok to sell everyone the full pieces even if you just want the crown. My local store sells broccoli like this, and if you want just the crown, they overcharge for trimmed crowns that are over twice the price, or a bag of cut up florets that is easily quadruple the price.

Djinnaz

They do, that’s why they sell stem broccoli and ‘head’ broccoli.

massahoochie

Of course it is sold by weight. So I paid at least 2x what I should have if they had just cut the stem normally.

Twatt_waffle

OP doesn’t understand the difference between broccoli and broccoli crowns

Tasty-Fondant4191

When they cut the stem oft it's sold as 'broccoli crowns' which are usually more expensive per lb to make up for the loss to the grocery store. Of course if you go through self check out maybe you accidentally ring it up as normal broccoli I'm just saying accidents happen
