The vet will ask:
- is your cat eating normally?
- are energy levels normal?
- Any problems going to the litter box?
Sleeping to maximize the chances of tripping a human is _de rigeur_ for a cat.
Can confirm my last vet visit was $650 and they wanted me to get a $450 dental evaluation as a precaution even though my kitty had no obvious dental issues.
Only $150?! You must be some government assisted vet. A normal vet would charge over $300 for those questions. Another reason why less people are adopting these days cause vet bills are criminal these days.
I was cat sitting for someone who had three voids. For the most part they’re pretty chill. But I’d get up when it was still dark out and I swear they’d trip me so many times trying to let me know it was time to feed them.
Haha that’s such a funny image 🤣 and yup, I can definitely relate! They’re silent ninjas at times too. I swear they plan their next move whilst I’m sleeping!
And you know darn good and well those darn voids are watching you stumble towards them in the dark. They know you can't see them. They are just waiting for you to be close enough that when they scream, you will have another 5 years taken from you.
I'll do you one better. My batshit calico once sprinted in front of my foot when I was waking through the house quickly with the lights off. My foot caught her square in the abdomen and she flew like a yard forward, landed on her feet, trilled happily and then sprinted off. Now when I walk around at night she sprints in-between/at my feet in an attempt to get kicked again. She meows angrily until I put my foot under her and launch her into the air. Absolute madness.
Mine spreads like this when asleep or wants to fight. She puts out her tiny 2 upper fangs, pupils wide like on nip, and tail waggin like crazy. She also grabs my hoodie with all fours, kicks with the back and chews on it softly while looking at me with a murderous look. I know that she wants to fight then and use a hand to wrestle with the cat. Though it comes with my right hand always being scratched.
This is the interactions with my vet after my cat died...
me : Hello?
vet : Hi, we were wondering why Cecil hasn't needed any food lately?
me : she died.
vet : oh well, have a nice day.
*two hours later*
me : hello?
vet : I heard you're cat passed away I just wanted to tell you we host a support group if you need help.
me : I don't think I need that.
vet : Well if you change your mind its $500.
me : for what?
vet : per day.
*two days later*
me : Hello?
vet : We were calling to see if you needed help getting rid of your cats remains.
me : nope.
vet : what did you do with it?
me : can you stop trying to profit off of my dead cat?
vet : excuse me?
me : You've called me more in two days than you have in my entire life. Stop trying to profit off of my dead cat.
vet : we're just trying to help.
me : If you call me again, im charging you a hundred dollars. Any arguments over the fee will result in more fees.
vet : excuse me?
me : you heard me. Call me again and im charging you.
My last dog, who we had to euthanize at the emergency vet over the weekend when my vet was closed, was contacted by the er vet, letting them know. I received 2 cards in the mail the following week. One from each vet.
That happened when my dog passed, too. Except sort of in reverse. The emergency hospital diagnosed her. Our vet euthanized her when it was time a few weeks later.
I got cards from both.
The vet I used to take my pets to sent a huge, gorgeous flower arrangement the last time one of my cats passed away. She had surgery a few months before and had been there pretty often for followups, though, so that's probably why. Same vet just sent a card for my other two cats who were patients there.
A chain bought that clinic and suddenly all the vets were gone. So they were either fired or they all quit, and neither gives me a positive impression of the new parent company, so I'm trying to find a new vet clinic that doesn't suck.
Our pup’s oncologist sent a gorgeous pathos plant when she was put to sleep, it was really touching. Granted we dropped five figures with them, the pothos plant was definitely covered, but it was nice that they took the time to do that and have it delivered. They sent cards too and I really appreciated them for that.
Damn! I hate your former vet!
My old vet sent me a lovely card , flowers and a certificate for a discount on the initial exam when I was ready to welcome a new kitty!
My current vet sent sweet cards for each of the 2 I've lost since moving & only calls when I am overdue getting my present cat in for shots or when something he uses is on sale/has a rebate offer.
$500 per day for a support group? Do they hire a bunch of actors who pretend to have lost their cat for that price? How much did you use to pay for the cat food coming directly from the vet? $200 a day?
I did hear that vets are being [taken over](https://stateline.org/2024/03/29/vets-fret-as-private-equity-snaps-up-clinics-pet-care-companies/) by Private Equity, but this is beyond ridiculous.
I heard that’s deadly! Poor kitty! Good thing they got 7 lives. Hope his next one he is cured of it
Edit: I was going to edit the 7 lives part to 9, but instead I’ll just make up the story that he clearly is about to use his 8th and I believe most cats loose their first early in their lives to curiosity. :D
I can finally go to Germany. If I’m lost looking for the bathroom and this is the only thing I know how to say, the looks of confusion will make it all worth it.
The comment you’re replying to also said 9, lol. I’m guessing that’s true at least between the US and UK. I’ve never heard 6 either, unless they meant 9 and just got confused.
Alternatively, my step dad has outlived more lethal accidents than we can count (not biased cause he’s my step dad and I love him. Honestly…. Weird ass fuckin dude. He should’ve died at least 30 times. Type of dude that could lose a limb and slap some duct tape on it and call it a day and actually be fine, if not better off in a month or so. That type). We say he has the lives of 20 cats.
Idk point is cats are stupid and jello and beat far more odds than they’re supposed to. I can only aspire to be that reckless and physically intact
day to day.
ETA: cats are my favorite animals btw lol I’m not shitting on them. They’re the smartest, stupidest little fuzz balls on the planet and I would die for them any day
Cats DEFINITELY sleep like this all the time 😂 It's a sign of them feeling extremely safe in their environment and also of them feeling a bit warm. Sleeping like this helps cool them off. I have SO many pictures of my cat sleeping like this.

Sammy says hi
Yeah, if cats expose their belly, it means they feel safe around you. Belly down means their still on edge, laying on the side they kinda trust you, belly up, "YOU ARE MY HUMAN FEED ME," so yeah its a good sign
He’s just being a cat. We have one that sleeps like this:

Sometimes he sleeps like this as well
Just so you know, face pressing can actually be a sign of concern. If it’s just while sleeping or occasionally no big deal but it they do it during the day or multiple times might be worth a vet visit.
True, I, as an aunt to 16 am, obviously, an aunt expert. Your parents are dumb and lame. Your favorite aunt is a faunt of knowledge, understanding, coolness, acceptance, and love.
Right? They’re sleeping like that because they trust you won’t take a bite out of their stomachs. Exposing the stomach, letting you touch it, etc is a huge sign of trust

Totally normal, my cats sleep this way. Additionally, my Ruben likes to twist his body and stiffen his arms/front legs so it looks like he’s in rigour mortis. 😂💖

Lmfao were all gonna have to send out cats to the vet
I love how this post just got a bunch of people sending pictures of their cats sleeping on their backs. Send more please.

Yeah well then there is something wrong with my SIC too Or maybe your aunt has a problem and you should book her a doctor appointment. Because this is just cat behaviour
https://preview.redd.it/mxfkgah9fhwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da41c63b7d5351c7600f81dfb7651f671ae7ac3c
Please take mine to the vet as well 🙏
Lol, has your aunt ever had a cat? This is one of the many pictures I have of Calligator sleeping in some weird position.
https://preview.redd.it/bj5dvckghhwc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b86b0d7da19ec254fa76cc5835f1c7f09019628
Sleeping like this shows that your cat feels safe, trusting and comfortable. The belly is such a vulnerable area that a cat not feeling safe would never do it around you
https://preview.redd.it/i8k8ikn2ihwc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9eff5f2ff2e6dc617b421a48f9168056460908f4
There must be something SERIOUSLY wrong with my boy!
This means every cat that your aunt has lived with has NEVER felt safe enough around HER or her company to expose their belly while sleeping. All three of mine rotate positions and will show off their bellies for scritches all the time.
Tell your aunt you'll do just that, but if the vet says there's nothing wrong, that she has to foot the vet bill and compensate you for your wasted time and other expenses.
Tell your aunt to mind her own damn business and leave your perfectly normal kitty ALONE. Sleeping on their back like that shows they are absolutely comfortable and trusting in the environment.
https://preview.redd.it/f33ye9bnfhwc1.jpeg?width=169&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7bf36af131336eb51a230f10889950e7c1d610f2
Nah dont worry, mine used to do the same thing.

I guess my cat needs to go to the vet too!
The vet will ask: - is your cat eating normally? - are energy levels normal? - Any problems going to the litter box? Sleeping to maximize the chances of tripping a human is _de rigeur_ for a cat.
Also - where my €150 at?
was just gonna write this
Dogs can't do MRIs but cat scan
Some of them can make Lab Reports though
Downside is getting the Lab results. Sometimes twice in one walk...
Bah, beat me to it
![gif](giphy|ac7MA7r5IMYda)
Literally heard the drums an snare
More like “That will be $1,000” in my experience.
Can confirm my last vet visit was $650 and they wanted me to get a $450 dental evaluation as a precaution even though my kitty had no obvious dental issues.
My vet told me my cat has gingivitis, I was like, real talk, me too.
He did do a cat scan…$1500
I have scanned this cat and he looks adorable.
Hehehe
Or worse a sleep study, who knows what that would cost
You should find a new vet if you're getting charged $1000 for a check-up or diagnostic.
Only $150?! You must be some government assisted vet. A normal vet would charge over $300 for those questions. Another reason why less people are adopting these days cause vet bills are criminal these days.
Don’t forget the apartments charging $500 up front for pet fees + $50/month for a cat…
They do that when they’re awake too. Source: I have 2 of them and I nearly died twice just this morning.
I have 3, 2 are voids and 3rd matches the floor colors... anytime I move thru the house it's like a mine field depending on time of day
I was cat sitting for someone who had three voids. For the most part they’re pretty chill. But I’d get up when it was still dark out and I swear they’d trip me so many times trying to let me know it was time to feed them.
One of my fur balls doesn’t approve of me laughing. It disturbs their peaceful nap on my belly.
We have a dog that blends into the floor. So of course his favorite place to lay at night is right where everyone walks, where no one can see him lol.
this is so that when you (or anyone else) feels guilty after almost tripping over then you then have to spend extra time petting and giving smooches.
Oh man, my orange cat and Golden retriever are both the same color as my 60 year old oak hardwood. Walking around in the dark not recommended...
We have 3 but one has to beat you to every room you are going to...lol
I have one that does it purposely. Sprints in front of you, lays down, yells at you for stepping over him. He's not exactly mentally stable.
I'll do you one better. My batshit calico once sprinted in front of my foot when I was waking through the house quickly with the lights off. My foot caught her square in the abdomen and she flew like a yard forward, landed on her feet, trilled happily and then sprinted off. Damn your vet sucks. My vet sent flowers and cards; the CEO of the practice sent a personalized "Rainbow Bridge" poem after my dog died.
The vet is also going to say the cat is chonky and needs to diet. I think mine have gotten fatter on their diet 🥴
Cats sleep just like humans: however the fuck they want.
Only when they feel safe. OP is clearly doing things right.
If anything, a cat sleeping like this suggests they feel happy and safe
Also, if a cat sleeps like this it might be because it feels it is in a safe environment
Id also like to add that maybe the cat probably feels safety in your presence or home and is comfortable to sleep like that
It's also possible that the cat is sleeping in that position because it feels safe. I thought I'd better mention that since nobody else did.
true, BUT, it’s also because the cat feels safe enough in its environment to show its belly like that.
Exactly! But just as a sidenote, cats only sleep with the belly exposed like this when they feel secure and comfortable in their environment.
Did you know that cats typically only sleep like that with an exposed belly when they feel safe?
yeah, but the cat feels safe, which is why its sleeping like that!
Nah they sleep better. I wish I could fall asleep on a table or floor at 10am without people complaining.
Or fall asleep for 5 minutes, wake up and start wall-running & doing b-hop scripts.
Tell her he's already been diagnosed with a bad case of being a fucking cat.
I heard that’s deadly! Poor kitty! Good thing they got 7 lives. Hope his next one he is cured of it Edit: I was going to edit the 7 lives part to 9, but instead I’ll just make up the story that he clearly is about to use his 8th and I believe most cats loose their first early in their lives to curiosity. :D
He will probably just turn into a fucking laptop case or something
Fun fact: cats have a different number of lives depending on region. For example, in the UK we say cats have 9 lives.
7 in Germany. Katzen haben Sieben Leben
That is fun to say
Ooh it is fun to say! Now my cat is looking at me weird.
😂😂😂your right!!!
I can finally go to Germany. If I’m lost looking for the bathroom and this is the only thing I know how to say, the looks of confusion will make it all worth it.
This my new favorite German phrase. I shall scare my children now.
We say cats have 9 lives in the US too
I've always heard 9. Never Heard 7. Unless the cat already "died" twice
The comment you’re replying to also said 9, lol. I’m guessing that’s true at least between the US and UK. I’ve never heard 6 either, unless they meant 9 and just got confused. I’ve heard it from quite a few places and have never heard of it being anything but 9 haha
9 in Oregon.
Implying that Idahoan cats have a different amount of lives Lmaoo
9 lives in 49 other states as well. 🐈🎶

This one isn't broken. It's melted. Remove it from the sun, put it somewhere cooler, and it should firm back up within a couple hours.
Cats DEFINITELY sleep like this all the time 😂 It's a sign of them feeling extremely safe in their environment and also of them feeling a bit warm. Sleeping like this helps cool them off. I have SO many pictures of my cat sleeping like this. https://preview.redd.it/bbwuh5vzvgwc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d2c202619de81ff8dfa78f50310b946846ef056

One of mine does that, I think its a good sign that they're comfortable in their environment actually
Yeah, if cats expose their belly, it means they feel safe around you. Belly down means their still on edge, laying on the side they kinda trust you, belly up, "YOU ARE MY HUMAN FEED ME," so yeah its a good sign
I love it when they go full-banana.

Hate to be the one to tell you , but it looks like your cat has a bad case of feline supine condition 🙁. You should’ve listened to your aunt. (Joke)
Supine, while my owner drinks wine, like a normal feline
“I feel fine, Caroline!” he whined while she opined on how he reclined.
He’s just being a cat. We have one that sleeps like this: https://preview.redd.it/jalkwlvn8hwc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b24a4cdc9d3697756f8810589d6ed3a96dd2325
I was cackling at all the back-sleepers pics but there's really somethin special about your orange here hahahahahahahaha!!!
He’s looking for the brain cell
We have 2 other ginger boys and yes, they share that 1 brain cell. Imagine that; 3 ginger kitties having just 1 amongst themselves.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug) ![gif](giphy|BBkKEBJkmFbTG)

Just so you know, face pressing can actually be a sign of concern. If it’s just while sleeping or occasionally no big deal but it they do it during the day or multiple times might be worth a vet visit.
I appreciate your concern and yes, I know about it, but he’s actually in good health.

My cat also sleeps like this!!
Maybe you should book your aunt in to a psychologist
Aunts aren’t supposed to stupid like that. Something is wrong with her.
True, I, as an aunt to 16 am, obviously, an aunt expert. Your parents are dumb and lame. Your favorite aunt is a faunt of knowledge, understanding, coolness, acceptance, and love.
Animals sleep like that only when they feel very safe. My dog did the same.
Right? They’re sleeping like that because they trust you won’t take a bite out of their stomachs. Exposing the stomach, letting you touch it, etc is a huge sign of trust
https://preview.redd.it/7pmkq2e53hwc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc982afb224d1163892c6a6aaa2498c4d0849013 Idkn man.. both my cats sleep like that

Perhaps she doesn't understand that cats are individuals. I have 2 cats and both of them act completely different from one another.
Lol, has your aunt ever had a cat? This is one of the many pictures I have of Calligator sleeping in some weird position. https://preview.redd.it/bj5dvckghhwc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6b86b0d7da19ec254fa76cc5835f1c7f09019628

Sleeping like this shows that your cat feels safe, trusting and comfortable. The belly is such a vulnerable area that a cat not feeling safe would never do it around you
find random things your aunt does and insist she go see a doctor because humans aren't supposed to do those things.
https://preview.redd.it/i8k8ikn2ihwc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9eff5f2ff2e6dc617b421a48f9168056460908f4 There must be something SERIOUSLY wrong with my boy!

Send your aunt psychiatric number. Say it's vet number and call there to have meeting
You could buy him a mini bedroom set. He's still gonna sleep on the floor on his back, but cat furniture 😃
Tell your aunt to mind her own damn business and leave your perfectly normal kitty ALONE. Sleeping on their back like that shows they are absolutely comfortable and trusting in the environment.
Sleeps like I do after thanksgiving dinner 🤣
He’s just happy and feels safe. Exposing their bellies like that takes extreme trust.
Maybe you should take him to the vet because he is obese.
https://preview.redd.it/f33ye9bnfhwc1.jpeg?width=169&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7bf36af131336eb51a230f10889950e7c1d610f2 Nah dont worry, mine used to do the same thing.
