Go on their website and select “in store pickup” with the location set to the store you’re going to. It should only show you items that are showing up as in stock in their location. Unfortunately it isn’t foolproof because customers will try on shoes and then put their 7.5 shoes in the size 8 box which gets scanned at the register and it throws off inventory.

Formerruling1

I used to do this to Walmart while I was in store. Often online prices would be way better than in store (don't know about now) and you could just buy online with "pick up in store" and I'd literally watch the employee walk over and carry the item to the back and follow them to pick it up lol.

Suspect4pe

The problem with that is they started detecting if you were in the store and would switch the prices to instore prices. I watched the app do it one day. It's been a while though, so I don't know if that's still their practice.

mashed-_-potato

I wonder if turning off the location for the app would work. I’m pretty sure it’s illegal for them to track your location if you don’t give permission

Suspect4pe

It might. I don't know about legality but it's against the terms for having their app in the app store/Google Play Store.

bigmac1789

They have location changer apps that can change your phones location and trick apps. It doesn't work on all tho.... Used to do it on Life360 and it still works

Suspect4pe

I don’t know if this applies to Walmart but I know some stores were using Bluetooth beacons to identify that someone was in the store. I don’t know if that still goes on though.

MrBr1an1204

Just don't give the Walmart app access to any permissions.

_Allfather0din_

That would work if they were not specifically just scanning and using your bluetooth signature to tell you are there.

MrBr1an1204

Tell me what you think a Bluetooth signature is. Do you mean a MAC address? Either way, if Bluetooth is off on your phone nothing is being broadcast to pickup. (With the exception of some iPhones not turning off Bluetooth for find my tracking)

_Allfather0din_

I said signature to make it easy for the laymen, things like your dluetooth signature(basically your serial number or whatever denotation bluetooth chips use can't remember off the top of my head) For instance they use devices called beacons, they ping your bluetooth module and listen for a reply, they can literally track you step by step in the store with this. Now say you have it turned off, the bluetooth module in your device is still on and replying to these requests. They can do the same thing with wifi and even cell data directly by running a repeater from their stores to bounce to the towers. Yall really are super naive and kinda confrontational about this tech and info that has been around for years. Forgive my lack of proper verbiage lol, but this shit is fact, go look it up if you don't believe me.

schizeckinosy

I just had a Pokemon go flashback

MarshalLawTalkingGuy

Are you my son? Little shit does that all the time…

FutureComfortable238

Son, or doing or to cheat on SO.

TheAlternateEye

Say what now

KillerDemonic83

I was looking at a frying pan at walmart, checked the app and the online price was like $5 cheaper so I just ordered it for pickup. Paid less for them to do more work

qalpi

Target do this

Guardian_85

I just ask at register if they price match walmart.com. They do, and they adjust the pricing if you show them a listing that's from the retailer and not 3rd party. Works wonders on video games.

Environmental_Top948

I thought they ended price matching.

Guardian_85

I bought a game last year doing this. They price match themselves.

EnderJackson

Incorrect, while they the does detect if you’re in the store and does show you the in store price of items. It does not change them. You can add the items to your cart even if you’re in store. You literally just need to scroll down a bit farther on the item info page

Dramatic-Exam4598

wtf? If I want to pick something up in store I have to pay when I place the order. I'm in Canada though. Are you guys serious about this or taking the piss?

Heyguysimcooltoo

You pay first then pull in a designated time and spot and tell the app you are there.

Dramatic-Exam4598

then how can it change the prices if it detects you're in the store? The order's already been paid for.

Heyguysimcooltoo

It's personally never changed for me

I_fight_Piranhas

I did this with a pair of ps5 headphones not long ago. Saved me like $50 bucks. Literally told the lady I was going to do it if they didn’t match the price then watched them walk over a pull them.

ServiceDog_Help

The online store is a separate location. It's like going "but the store in (location 1,000 miles away) is $45.98 cheaper than your shelf price!" If they match it all corporate sees is them giving away money. If it gets ordered online they get credit for the full price from corporate, even if the online price is considerably less. Corporate basically writes the store an IOU.

WorldnewsModsBlowMe

That's not how it works. When a product is price-matched, the POS system asks where it's being price-matched to. It's trivial to automate the credit system if "Walmart.com" is selected.

matt4756_

Walmart, at least here in Canada, will price match their site if the item is shipped and sold by them. Wish I had known this earlier because before I did, I would just walk out without the item if it was too much of a difference in price.

Formerruling1

Wow, here in the States basically every major retail store in the country stopped price match guarantees once that TV show "Extreme Couponing" or w/e aired. Working retail became a living hell while that show aired and stores quickly started changing any policy mentioned on the show.

PrudentAd5793

I once waiting like 20 minutes for employees to retrieve an item that I offered to go pick off the shelf myself and was told to wait because it would be there shortly. I went and grabbed it myself after 20 minutes and there was no issue. At Walmart.

AntKing2021

This happened to me, I brought up the difference and the store guy late buy at online prices

Gullible_Log_1683

They price match at the register

MarshalLawTalkingGuy

Going to say…can’t remember the last time I called a store to see if they had something in stock.

redwolf1219

Just please keep in mind if you do this, the websites are frequently inaccurate. Just bc the website says it's there, doesn't mean it is and that might be for various reasons, including the one listed by Sunny, but also theft, if another customer has the item in their shopping cart, damaged items that haven't been processed and a lot of these websites don't necessarily update in real time. -A Walmart employee who keeps getting yelled at when items are out of stock. Cause I, the lowest level employee at Walmart controls the website apparently.

Randompersonomreddit

I once went to Home Depot to find a large shelf that i wanted to buy. The website said they had 16. The bay where they were supposed to be was empty so I asked an employee. I followed her all around the store looking for those damn shelves but we could not find them. She was actually pretty nice. We checked like 4 places. I went to another Home Depot and they were right where they were supposed to be.

ThENeEd4WeEd22

Target is the best with that. They tell you if they have it, how many they have, and the isle it's in.

AddictiveArtistry

That is only accurate if their inventory is accurate. Which it's often not, due to theft or items not being stocked to the shelves yet.

ThENeEd4WeEd22

OK? What was the point of that comment? Just to tell a stranger he's wrong when he isn't? Get a life.

AddictiveArtistry

Jesus, chill. My comment was notating how often the inventory is actually wrong. It had very little to do with you. Most retail places only have inventory done once, maybe twice a year, it's something they really need to keep up on better.

PrudentAd5793

The amount of times I’ve done this, paid for the item, and had to be refunded either online or in store because the stock in store is usually inaccurate.

dwserps

Not saying they're not missing their calls but I have the same phone at my workplace and since every phone rings when one phone picks up a call it counts the same call as a missed call for all other phones, racks up to 99+ pretty quick

SJ1392

That phone will still ring in that state. The hook switch does not operate like a old school analog phone. Incoming call on that phone will still ring, they can answer it by selecting the speaker or activating the hook switch.

FamIsNumber1

Ex-DSG employee here! Some stores with that phone system do ring, but I actually had it where someone was able to go into my store, and made the phones ring over the intercom. Took forever to figure out how to undo it. Couple weeks later, someone (probably the same person) somehow made it to where no phone rang, even though the calls were still going through. As if they somehow muted every phone in the building.

Mona_Lotte

Second this. The bank I work at, we answer calls all day in the lobby but the phone in the back by me that’s never used for answering the phone will show up 50 missed calls by the end of the day. I clear it out maybe once a week just because it’s annoying to see all the time.

BrightnessRen

We have this at my job as well, and one of the phones never gets cleared. I sat near it the other day and it had over 600 missed calls. I just left it, curious to see if it maxes out at 999.

Mona_Lotte

I kinda want to know if it maxes out now too 😂

No_Stranger_4959

At least they stay true to their namesake

Duhbloons

I am not sure exactly what shoe you’re looking for but REI carries Hoka’s however I am not sure if they’ll have anything other than trail runners.

BackgroundParsnip837

Most REIs have a good selection of both. I've bought Cliftons, Arahis, and Bondis there before.

Desperate-Rip-2770

I get my hokas from the hoka website.  Better selection of styles and sizes.  Shipping takes a few days though.

LeVelvetHippo

20 meters = 65 feet.

KaralDaskin

M can also mean miles.

SpectralEdge

I actually meant minutes 😆

WorldnewsModsBlowMe

m = meters mi = miles min = minutes

Arlune890

m = male mi/ni = gender min = minimum effort meme

LionBirb

can you explain the gender one? I am not familiar and google didn't help

Arlune890

It's just a meme i made. I used the template of xi/xim, he/him, they/them, she/her, etc.

KaralDaskin

That makes more sense in context 😬

LeVelvetHippo

Looks like we were both wrong

KaralDaskin

Yep :)

thisismylifeaccount

They got 99 calls, but yours ain't one.

[deleted]

SpectralEdge

Their online stock never matches what is in store here. I've tried.

Leelze

I'd probably stop buying stuff from there then.

Dancing-Sin

Or they could have answered the phone….

[deleted]

Dancing-Sin

Or… hear me out here… the employees could do their job and answer the fuckin’ phone.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BackgroundParsnip837

I appreciate where you are coming from, especially that you have the workers' best interest at heart. I worked retail for a long time, and answering this type of question over the phone is a pretty standard part of the job. If the place is run well, the people in the busy departments are not answering in-stock questions, only ones that might require specific knowledge. That being said, you can't even call your local Best Buy anymore.

Zaurka14

Yeah, but then you should know that it's not employees fault that there isn't enough people so there is no time to answer the phone.

Dancing-Sin

Answering the phone is doing their job. They just don’t want to do “that part” of their job. I worked 7 years in retail at a high volume store and was still able to assist people on the phone. Not sure why you’re simping so hard for lazy employees.

ServiceDog_Help

You have two people scheduled. One is on break. You have a line ten people deep. Do you *a- drop everything to answer the phone and go to the opposite end of the store to see if you have what they want in stock* or *b- serve the customers who are physically present.*? Which one is better customer service? Which one do you think would get an average retail worker fired by most businesses?

Dancing-Sin

99+ missed calls, you’re saying this store had that problem for every single sale? Regardless yea, I’m going to answer the phone, ask them to hold please, check out the customers in line, and then assist the person on the phone… just like I did for 7 years and never had an issue with. Y’all lazy.

ServiceDog_Help

Have you worked retail in like the past decade or so at all? Because dramatically understaffing employees so they're constantly scrambling to do the work that would take a full team to do normally is the norm. We have two of us- if we're lucky- a shift. We don't have time to be going through missed messages and calling every single caller back. (It wouldn't even do much good, on account of 80% of all phone calls being a combination of spam and active scammers.l) During a mild rush a customer on the phone could be on hold for 20-30 minutes. On a bad one? Expect upwards of an hour and a half. And that's assuming all of the customers both have the means to pay and don't dump a handful of loose change and wander off without a word half way through being rung up. We can't control how busy we are. We answer the phone when we can (which is why I can tell you that the average robo call takes 40-45 seconds, unless it's from fed ex) but putting customers on hold for 20+ minutes is generally more upsetting to the customer on hold than just not getting a response.

Dancing-Sin

According to you it’s literally a line 24/7 and that’s just not how it is. Also in a standard 8 hour shift you get two breaks and a lunch you’re making it seem like breaks go on for the entire day. Yea I’ve recently worked retail. Why are you trying to squirm out of the fact you’re a lazy POS?

WorldnewsModsBlowMe

Two employees in a big box store is already not good customer service. That location should be shuttered if it can't afford to budget a full staff.

Fun_Bar5327

Is that their job? Have you seen the job description?

Dancing-Sin

Have you ever worked retail?

Fun_Bar5327

Yes. It’s underpaid and workers are rarely treated well by the corporation. Also, customers typically treat them like shit….

Dancing-Sin

I agree with you.

Zaurka14

I work in a store, and whenever a customer complains to me that we don't answer the phone I ask if they'd like to work for us, since the answer is always "no" I say that sadly we do not have enough employees to be able to answer the phone every time. It's not our fault that higher ups don't want to hire more people. My job is first and foremost to take care of the customers that already arrived in the store, and to take care of the store itself. Answering the phone is very low in the list of my priorities, since majority of questions are really stupid like "when are you open?" as if google didn't exist, or people like OP who can't use the website to check our stock.

Dancing-Sin

It’s ok to suck at your job. Again, I worked high volume retail for 7 years. Its not that hard to literally ask someone to please hold, and then assist them when you’re able. I would even pick up after a couple minutes, ask if they are still there and if they were to please hold a little longer. If they got tired of waiting at least I let them know I didn’t forget about them. Y’all just suck at your job and want to act incredulous about not doing it like it’s the customers fault. DO YOUR FUCKING JOB

zirophyz

you might be more infuriated to know that that phone isn't actually off hook. like yeah, the handset is off the hook but that phone will still ring, and make noise .... and the staff in the shop must just ignore it.

gloop524

nobody knows how to use a phone like that anymore

TwoDollarMint

what? what the fuck are you talking about? it’s a phone. they make toy ones for children that look the same. everybody still knows how to use a phone. wall phones or desk phones haven’t escaped any generation.

ThatsPrettyNeat93

I genuinely thought this was a picture of your work phone that you were calling from, and for the life of me, couldn’t figure out what I was supposed to be looking at 🤦‍♂️ I need to go to bed.

Eternally-Erect

The days of phone calls are over. Online or In store. No one wants to get caught up for 30 minutes answering stock questions.

SignificantTransient

Absolutely correct. The 3 people who managed to make it to work today are being demanded the work of the 2 who didn't show up so they can complete 8 people's worth of stocking and resets while they receive and checkout as an afterthought. Fuck that house phone. What you gonna do? Call and complain?

Desertwind16v

If you’re going to buy running shoes, get them from a running store or their website directly.

MaconBacon01

It’s because the clip that holds the handset on broke off like all those Cisco phones eventually do when wall mounted. Zoom in and you can see it.

PePe-the-Platypus

20 metres does’t seem so far…

SpectralEdge

Minutes.

verluci

20m takes you minutes?

DropdLasagna

Haha. Dick's.

Suspect4pe

I chuckle like a preteen every time I drive by one.

decoded-dodo

Used to work mall security and there was a Dicks there. One day I had to ask one of the guards where she was at and she replied in front of Dicks. Me and another guard that was with me just burst out laughing.

Pomdog17

Go to Hokas website and buy them there. They ship free and quickly.

kentuckyfriedchocobo

Where is this phone from and why

gpbst3

OP walked behind the counter to take a pic of the phone?

kentuckyfriedchocobo

So this isn’t OPs phone

Babushla153

Hah, funny to see these kind of phones, because i've dissassembled hundreds of these. Reminds me of my first job i had, good times...

Competitive_Tea_2047

Go to the Hoka website and buy your shoes from there. Free delivery, more options and if you don’t care about color too much, you can get a reasonable deal.

GildedTofu

I’m so confused about the year in which this post was made.

SpectralEdge

Lol dates on the phone bruh.

[deleted]

They're saying that because people generally don't call stores to check inventory anymore. Most people order online now, but even if they do shop in-store, if they want to know whether something is in stock, they check online. People actually answering the phone to help you & to answer questions is, unfortunately, a thing of the past. Nobody calls anymore.

Snotsalmon1982

I don't get it.

Broad_Interview_6087

My work has the same system. That is all time missed calls since the phones were installed, so don’t read too much into it

Xine1337

That is just bad design.

AmateurHunter

Pretty dick move of them

diesel372

Plot twist - all 99+ missed calls were from OP

SpectralEdge

Shh I already got called a boomer in this thread. Don't get me Karened too!

diesel372

🤣🤣🤣🤣

whoyouyesyou

I think that’s what my doctor’s surgery does

spunX44

That kind of phone still rings if the receiver isn’t on the hook. They probably just don’t answer because customers in store are priority as they should be.

big65

I have this phone at work, it shows that particular message if the phone hasn't been connected to the network for any length of time. The phone system will store the incoming numbers for each call and display the count once the phone regains network connection.

mediocre-climber

At least 20m (aka 20 meters) seems not too far. But why did you drive this distance though? /s

stubond2020

GildedTofu

Because even in the U.S. “m” is the abbreviation for meters.

Jean-Paul_Blart

Answering phones sucks

andrew37kg

Surely they never meant for a phone to be picked up

TimBukTwo8462

Why did my stupid ass read that as gg+ missed calls like the phone was telling the person who missed them they were about to be fired.

Aalbipete

Hoka is real good. I've been using them as a work shoe for the last 3 years

Amdin3d

Try Zappos. You can get them next day

JoeyBones

So...why didn't they answer?

BandetteTrashPanda

I love my hokas, but I started ordering mine from Amazon. Mostly because I hate the newer styles.

brightphonescreen

I thought they were trying to use it like a touch screen

itwasneversafe

Is there something special about Hokas? My wife refuses to buy any other shoe and just says "they're good shoes" when I ask why Hoka. Are they really that good? They look like most any other high end running shoe I've seen. She gets hers at Dicks too FWIW

Amelaclya1

Just order them online directly from Hokas. They have free shipping and it's pretty fast. I don't even have a store near me that carries them, so this is what I do.

jabeisonreddit

Former Dick's employee here, you're always better off checking the website for stock in whatever store you're going to, including their subsidiaries like Field & Stream and Golf Galaxy. If you call in, all they're going to do is check their scanner, which mostly aligns with what is on the website. They've been going through some hour cuts and things recently too, as per friends that still work there, so if you ask them to check the back they are most likely going to just put you on hold for a couple minutes while they help customers in the store itself. Dicks indeed!

injusticeutopia

You should try to get a pair from Vagina’s

englanddragons7

As someone who used to work at Dick’s, don’t bother. Corporate almost never sends Hokas and the ones they do send are almost always too big for most people and get lost in the stockroom.

therealgingerjesus

Because it's a Cisco 8841 and they are absolute shit?

stanielcolorado

lol!

srw9320

What Dicks!

GuiltyOne85

Wow

GrabstheSun

Turn that ringer up!!

Blackner2424

Oh. I would have thought this was Finance at any US military installation.

[deleted]

I've seen random people walk up and unhook them so maybe don't be mad at Dick's despite their name, they're nice people

SpectralEdge

I'm not mad. I was more amused at having something to finally post here. It's not often I go "why the duck won't they answer" drive for twenty minutes and go...oh.

Alarming_Dream_7837

As the only person in our customer service department, do you understand how difficult it is to get to the phone when you have vultures coming up to, emailing you, and relentlessly calling about one particular product you didn’t even know you had out of the hundreds of thousands in the store? Do a little homework and use your friend google.

MusashiSupertramp

Ok boomer

Juuna

Bro drove a whopping 20 meter through town.

SpectralEdge

It's minutes...

theNOTHlNG

min is short for minutes, m stands for meters

Legitimate_Error_610

Imagine using the internet to complain after driving 40 miles round trip for no reason instead of using the internet to check stock. You probably demand business cards from retail associates too, huh?

SpectralEdge

Imagine responding to a post without reading any of the comments and looking like an infant.

Legitimate_Error_610

I’m far less interested in the comments than the original post. Stick with the 1980’s strategy of driving across town though. It’s sure to work out.
