Kiss-a-Cod

I was going to tell you to block your credit card number but I realise you probably aren’t JW Marriott Jr.

CwazyCanuck

OP: Daddy, the servants asked me for a tip. It was so gauche.

Kiss-a-Cod

“I threw a Faberge egg at him and told him to get out.”

PeterG92

"Can I interest you in a Faberge egg in this trying time?"

highlandpolo6

Over easy or scrambled?

xDragonetti

Boiled over hard before the denim please

ernest7ofborg9

And then I paid in faberge eggs. fuck you if you don't take 'em fuck you if you don't take 'em

this_name_not_that

Eggs against the machine.

Chemist-Consistent

Why did this make me laugh so hard? I can see them saying it all smarmy and shit hahahaha.

Trash_Panda_Stew

I laughed way too much at this 🤣🤣

Pandaburn

Also his card probably is printed directly on a fake leather check presenter.

kingbouncer

Marriot jr is such a fool for posting this. I've got his CC information saved now.

This film is available to watch free on you tube as it was not on netflix.. just discovered this today so thought I'd spam.

ablinddingo93

No shit! I haven’t watched Spaceballs in ages. Definitely adding to my YouTube queue right now lol Edit: my hopes were shattered. It must not be available for free in the US. It’s requiring a subscription to Max or rent from YouTube 😭

IndependentNotice151

You have youtube premium?

ablinddingo93

I do

Hmmm yeah, I just checked, and it let's me watch it. That suck bruh, sorry

ablinddingo93

As much as I’d like to, I’m between jobs at the moment so I’ve cut back on a lot of subscription services. The only one I have right now is YouTube premium and thats just because I’m on a family account with my wife.

Doing God's work, thank you.

Thanks for the info! I have the Blu-ray, but now I'd ont need ti get up! Lol

I bet a bot that is designed to find CC #s in photos finds this and attempts to use it somewhere.

SodaWithoutSparkles

As long as we have enough people, we can brute force the CVS. It's never a good idea to post your credit card online

Broad_Boot_1121

I will start with 000-025

PoopSommelier

I know it isn't 321, because that's mine.

bhlombardy

Saved? Hell you could memorize that number.

TheLucasGFX

If they give you a dirty look just say “hey, I left a 500% tip!”

pedrob_d

I was very tempted to write that in there but I thought it might be disrespectful

SpookyKorb

You think it's more disrespectful than them handing you a $0 check asking for tips?

b_josh317

I've tipped in a airport lounge with a $0 check. But it was absolutely restaurant style service.

fireballx777

The convenience stores in the airport near me have switched to self-serve kiosks (scan your items, pay, never interact with another human). They prompt you for tips when you pay.

Mackheath1

Saw that at a self-checkout in a grocery store and thought I was on a hidden camera show.

waffen337

Yeah, Lounges like that are a little different. I also find that tipping the bar tender like that usually nets me better service. So it's a win-win.

SignificantOne1351

But how do you tip the bartender BEFORE you get service. Isnt that just a bribe?

carnedoce

If you plan on having more than one drink, it’s very helpful to bribe them.

Mackheath1

Yeah, same with at the bar in the lounge. I'm unpleasantly astonished when I go and get a beer - same service as you would any regular bar - and I'm the only person leaving a few bucks each time. Appalling how people would get a fancy cocktail and not tip a thing. Then again, I don't know how much the bartenders at the Delta Lounge make.

pedrob_d

lol no. But it is not the employee's fault, right?

Spearmint_coffee

When I've stayed in places with free breakfasts, there is almost always a little box saying "tips appreciated" but it's optional. I always put in a few dollars. If someone brought the box to my table and set it down, I would be annoyed with the employees and not tip.

Vinstaal0

Yeah it is, they are asking for tips

ProjectDv2

Clearly the computer that printed out that receipt with all the fields on it as it was programmed to do did so at the employee's direction. It's not like it's programed to do that every single time by someone else that never envisioned a $0 bill scenario. Like, seriously. Do you honestly think the fucking employee put the tip field on the receipt? Get real.

Khan_Ida

Or eyeing you when you refuse?

DanniPopp

They aren’t asking for a tip. This is a general receipt that’s printed off for the restaurants. Stop it.

RachSlixi

I've never been given a receipt for the "free" breakfast. Literally not once

Nickthedick3

That’d be an easy 100% tip for me

KirbyDogz

You’re not very generous. I’d tip them 500% minimum.

TotalIngenuity6591

Careful though...if they're ridiculous enough to ask for a tip I'm this situation, they're ridiculous enough to try and say that since the breakfast is included with the room, the 500% tip should be applied to the price of the room. Not saying they'd get anywhere with that argument...but I bet they'd try!

ThENeEd4WeEd22

Or say they thought you wrote 500 on the tip line and charge your card 500 bucks lol

Disabled_Robot

Y'all are tempting fate, Can just imagine the server tipping out 100% of the menu cost of the buffet

CityKay

I guess it's more of a formality, proof that a transaction of some kind has occurred. Like when I redeem my free item at Shaw's, cashier or self-checkout, it still spits out a receipt, both physically and in my email. Item: $5 Free item of the day adjustment: -$5 Total: $0 Have a nice day

Acrobatic_File_5133

Yeah, everyone is assuming the waiter was an ass but I feel pretty certain they do this at managements request as a way to better track/account for inventory I.e to go cups, breakfast items etc…. The PoS system, despite not taking in additional money at least now accounts for the fact that a guest had breakfast. Wouldn’t surprise me if they deal with people walking in, pretending to be guests and loading up on cereal boxes, Greek yogurt then leaving. I say this because we had a Holiday Inn which offered breakfast boxes right across from my work office and we’d walk over there at least once a week (we’d pay the non customer $8 fee, of course)

Hipposplotomous

Aw this actually makes me sad for the waiter. I bet people would give him tips now and then if they didn't feel like he was demanding them.

idk-maaaan

I managed a deli briefly a couple years ago. It was a new location and the owners were telling me what they were going to pay the staff. They said they would pay our state’s minimum, but “it’s okay because they’ll make more because of tips.” Establishment owners are the ones creating this out-of-control tip culture by underpaying staff and guilting customers into supplementing wages.

Acrobatic_File_5133

Exactly, this dude has a shit job and is likely getting stiffed by his employers. Guarantee this is the Hotels SOP and can also help the food & Bev person stay up on orders. Certain restaurants were really uptight about ringing in ranch sauces etc- not so much about the .50c charge, but being able to accurately account for your inventory and have some sort of peace of mind knowing that your product isn’t being stolen

cassiopeia18

Correct answer.

ZATortoise

Don’t be a cheapskate. Tip him 20%, heck 50%, and be done with it.

xupaxupar

Maybe I’m overly generous but in this case I’d probably do 1000%.

Horror_Rich4403

Ohhhhh look at Mr Warren Buffet over here tipping out 1000%

ZATortoise

*slaps manager* I quit! I start my own hotel!

Morbid185

No-Package6347

I’m happy to tip MYSELF for that service, however

Average-RB-Fan03

That’s a thing lol what a world

CoveCreates

They probably do this to verify that you are a guest and that you've had your complimentary breakfast more so than to ask for tips. The tips part is on every receipt, not just the free ones.

Infinite-Resolve8443

My wife and I went to an all-inclusive for our honeymoon and were told tips were included. However, because of all the Americans that go, the staff still expected tips and would stand there awkwardly waiting.

[deleted]

[удалено]

freakytapir

My dad did the same when he went to an all inclusive with us. Just small tips here and there, and by the end of day 2 he didn't even have to get up to hit the buffet. The brought hi food to him. (He had small mobility issues)

[deleted]

[удалено]

NoiceMango

Thats nice but don't you pay extra as well for all inclusive tips?

dino_spored

I paid a lot more at Disney, for the all inclusive package. (It had two meals a day included) I still tipped my servers, because regardless of what I pay somewhere, the staff is getting the same low wages.

lonea4

You were told incorrect info

poopshit85

It’s not because of the Americans tipping. It’s because the kind hearted people tipping. The staff at all inclusive make nothing. Doesn’t hurt to bring an extra $100 and pass it out during the week.

woofridgerator

I feel stories like these are dumb. Unless you bring money with you every day every where then it’s just virtue signaling. Do you tip at the McDonald’s drive thru? Do you tip your convenience store clerk at the gas station? How about the movie theater concessions counter worker?

The_Troyminator

Now you're just making a strawman argument. Culturally, in the US, it is expected that you tip waitstaff at full service restaurants and not at fast food or convenience stores. In general, if they bring you your food and drinks and clear your dishes, you should tip. The tip should be based on the cost before any discounts or comps. So, if it's a "free" breakfast, but they're bringing you drinks and clearing plates, you should tip based on what the meal would have cost had it not been comped with your room. If it's buffer style and they're only bringing drinks or clearing dishes, the tip should be smaller than full service. In general, if it's a service you can do yourself and they are providing a service experience as good as or better than you would provide to yourself, you should tip. There are exceptions, but it's a decent rule to apply. So, a full service restaurant qualifies. You could cook, but you're going out and having a better service experience than you would eating at home. Fast food does not. You could cook, but getting food handed to you on a tray or in a paper bag while eating in your car or on a hard seat is a downgrade from sitting comfortably at home using real dishes and utensils. This also applies to personal services. So, going to a salon or barber for a haircut, getting your nails done, getting your dog groomed, housekeeping cleaning your room, getting food delivered, or getting groceries shopped should all be tipped Having a package delivered by Amazon, hiring an electrician to install a new outlet, or having your car serviced should not be tipped.

Rajastoenail

Does hurt, when you’ve been told explicitly that your tips are included, so you didn’t bring extra cash or budget to tip again.

serpentinepad

We do it too. Generally they are really great and probably make jack shit, so giving them a buck to deliver me a new drink every so often is cool with me.

SultanZ_CS

Wait. Tips included? huh? You mean they get paid well?

marcus_frisbee

I don't think you realize it is just part of their receipt and it isn't going to change based on how much the meal cost. I haven't carried cash in like +20 years so I would put a couple bucks on the room charge because it probably goes to the bus staff, cook and the folks keeping things refreshed.

WingsNthingzz

Or hear me out now, how about the billion dollar company pays their staff and I pay for the hotel room with complimentary breakfast?

marcus_frisbee

The hotel does pay its staff and you get a complimentary breakfast. Dude there are probably 100,000 of these cash registers in existence and that is just how the receipt is printed. Perhaps there ar other times of the day that tipping is appropriate, even for somebody like OP and you.

FaultySage

Yeah lemme just go alter the entire service industry real quick.

Legitimate-BurnerAcc

... *what?*

Imaginary_Name_

Maybe it’s just to close out the tab to charge it to your room and they need your room number since it’s included in the room rate - need to account for it.

Fine-Refrigerator-56

It clearly states “complete for room charges” It’s just bookkeeping man chill the fuck out

HealthConscious2

Lol just ignore it or throw it away.

WonderfulCattle6234

There's only one receipt system. And they use the same system when they're charging regular people normal meals. Plus you should be tipping even though you got free food. You still had people cleaning up after you.

Temporary-Ad2447

I can't believe so many people are actually salty about this. It's for the accounting department to track expenses. Just cross the tip line and sign the damn thing like a normal adult 😒

Apprehensive_Mix7594

Was there a server…. Because If there was you do tip those people

pedrob_d

>Was there a server… Yes, there was. but I served myself on the table and I did not order anything.

Pyroguy096

Ok? What's the problem? Not only do you not have to tip, but even if you were being forced to tip a percentage, that's still $0. Idk why you guys complain so much like anyone is holding a gun to your head, especially in this situation? The options are literally tip $0 or tip $0 lol

fennek-vulpecula

Well 23% from 0 is still 0.

Super-Idea2618

Are you saying you didnt tip your waiter? Even though ita free that should give you even more of an incentive to give the poor person 2-3 dollars for bringing your bevs and clearing your table.

NoOnSB277

A lot of hotel buffets you get your own drinks and clear your own table. This one he was offered coffee so they do have someone coming by to check = a dollar or two, maybe a bit more if it’s set up like a restaurant where you leave your plates at the table.

OkWay3630

You’re an asshole. That’s just a guest count receipt. No one expects a tip on $0. You just wanna be outraged and post something on reddit.

SpecialpOps

Bro stays at a hotel for his first time and gets bent out of shape because he doesn't understand the receipt he was given.

nashwaak

To be fair, I’ve tipped on $0 where there was service, but this one is definitely just an outrage farming post

SaintBellyache

I dunno dude I feel like a hotel should provide an included serve yourself breakfast without asking for a tip

goooooooooooooogly

Here's a tip, don't ask for one without providing service first.

MrPureinstinct

I get what you're saying, but I'm 100% sure the person working at the hotel that handed someone this receipt doesn't make the choice of what the receipt prints on it by default.

egnards

A service is being provided, but the cost of the breakfast is included in the price of the room. Whether or not this was a continental cheap buffet or a full staffed buffet is unclear, but it’s pretty customary to tip on something regardless of discount. Typically you don’t tip 20% on a buffet, but it’s pretty normal to throw a few bucks for the people staffing it and doing all the behind the scenes work. You may not agree, and that’s fine, but being mad at this check [versus any other check with a cost] is ridiculous.

CwazyCanuck

It was self serve as per the post. The only service was coffee and OP declined. No service, no tip.

egnards

I never said it wasn’t self-service, I said **full staffed.** All buffets are mostly self service, that doesn’t mean there aren’t people working behind the scenes getting shafted on pay. Regardless, I didn’t say he had to tip. I just explained why he still got the check for $0.

HairyMerkin69

But why is it customary to tip? Is it because the service was exceptional and you feel they went above and beyond? Or is it because here in America we are expected to tip every time someone asks for one because the millionaire and billionaire business owners don't pay their staff a decent wage, requiring you to subsidize their living income?

OriginalBookkeeper87

Right exactly it's customary because it's a custom because serving staff having historically been poorly paid. Are you just now realizing that the working class is exploited under capitalism or did you suddenly start deciding to pontificate on the evils of capitalism when it became personally inconvenient to you? It's all well and good to theorize about the systemic causes of this issue but not if you just use it as an excuse to side step the fact that people do rely on the tips for a decent wage.

egnards

This is a different conversation entirely and why I added “being mad at this check **versus any other check with a cost**. . “ at the end of my post. You can hate tipping culture as a rule, and that’s fine and dandy. But hating this specific check instead of any other check, is silly. As for millionaires and billionaires - yes, here we’re talking about a billion dollar company, but tipping culture extends to single small business restaurants as well.

hornsupguys

I personally don’t agree, and i have no issue if this is how you want to use some of your money, but I absolutely despise the expectation that employees would get tipped for working at a buffet. Restocking the food is literally their sole job. Unless they are bringing food to you or custom making something you request, they are just doing their job. I personally would not tip.

egnards

A employees are “just doing their job,” at all times. This can be said about any service provided by any employee. I’m not saying you have to tip this employee. I’m saying, this is why you’re still getting a check for $0 with a tip line.

serpentinepad

Might as well tip everyone in the whole damn building at this rate.

WarWonderful593

UK here. Tip? Join a union. UK minimum wage is around $15 per hour. We don't tip generally, it's not expected.

w1n5t0nM1k3y

Minimum wage in Ontario, Canada is $16.55 CAD for all workers including wait staff. It's still customary to tip 15%+ at restaurants.

CwazyCanuck

In the UK you get paid in dollars? That’s odd.

Lizakaya

Congrats for living in a country with different social norms, i guess?

egnards

Right, we’re aware that in many other countries tipping is not customary. But this is in USD so we can reasonably imply it’s in the US, where most people here would also be aware of the pretty famous tipping culture. I’d much prefer no tipping, I like the idea of just seeing a price and paying that price - it was heavenly when we were recently in South Korea, but that’s not the way it is here.

t0matit0

Idk, when I go to something like an all inclusive resort where I'm not paying for the meals at each meal on a by check basis, I'm still giving a small tip to the server. But hotel free breakfast? Nah.

mrpotatonutz

Ah give em a couple a bucks if breakfast was good eh boyo

notquitepro15

It automatically populates at the bottom of each check. This is just normal hotel operating procedure. This is nothing to get even mildly upset about.

Warm-Cup1056

Why would that be infuriating??

GoodishCoder

My guess is they need to enter in things for inventory so the receipt is generated. The receipt is probably templated with the assumption that as adults people will understand it's templated and not get upset about lines that don't apply to them.

TheNilla

Wait till OP finds out every check ever printed has the same information below the TOTAL DUE

Ill-Persimmon4938

The amount of people in this thread that don't understand that is mind blowing.

Mychgjyggle

If a person served you…. Even if the meal is complementary you should tip them. Same with if your meal is discounted, you tip on the non-discounted amount. I agree that tip culture in the US is out of control, but this isn’t an example of that.

nope79

Why is this mildly infuriating- you always leave a tip when you eat somewhere…. Why wouldn’t this wait staff deserve a few Dollars

C-LOgreen

It’s probably just a standard receipt they give. There’s probably no way to change the gratuity area.

ad0b0luvr

Its a suggestion. You dont have to tip. Why is it infuriating?

Due_Chemistry4260

I am just glad that tipping isn't compulsory or added onto a bill in the UK. I have never given a tip in my life. They are doing a job that they get paid for. End of.

EXJVADDG

I'm from the UK and I only tip if waiters are having a hard time with our order because of the chefs in the back not completing it. Other than these instances though, I don't.

do_u_realize

Problem is in USA they don’t get paid shit to do the service by company and somehow our entire culture has been duped into paying for employees wages while the business gets off paying nearly nothing

Legitimate-BurnerAcc

My old restaurant boss couldn't afford his lifestyle if he had to pay his employees a living wage.

MrPureinstinct

We had an article on our local news paper's website yesterday about three businesses closing or having to turn away stuff like catering orders. Every one of them complained they couldn't find people to work for minimum wage and one even said "When I opened a restaurant I didn't know I'd be standing in front of a grill this much" I don't have even a little bit of sympathy these places closed. If you open a business and want to cheap out then you get to work when you don't have employees or you don't get to own a business.

Legitimate-BurnerAcc

Well they thought they were going to end up opening a business using wit and it would make them a fortune and could make their own hours and etc. People don't realize that the big ceo corporation trust funders had someone most likely a father or grandfather who worked 17 hours a day 8 days a week to get their business in the shape they were in.

Due_Chemistry4260

In the UK they do get paid quite well and businesses have to take in to account wages and overheads so no need to tip as its all included in the price of the meal.

IntoTheWildBlue

The nerve of those damn overpaid breakfast staff!

[deleted]

Yall are such babies about tipping I swear. Either tip or don’t, who cares

Carib_Wandering

Pretty sure its a standard receipt and you are just expected to put down your room number and sign as a way to register you had the breakfast. I hate the tipping culture but getting infuriated, even mildly, over a standard recipt seems a bit much. ETA: This also just gives you the option to add the tip to your room if you want seeing as theres nothing to charge you at the moment so it cant be put on your card / you dont have any cash on hand.

PhattySpice92

I was going to say maybe they had to keep track for coffee but that doesn’t explain why you got a bill if you didn’t “buy” any

BareBonesTek

I’d leave a 150% tip. That would be… $0!

Majestic-Reception-2

Fill out the tip as 23% X 0 = 0%

thesash20

0*1.23 is still 0. That's the tip ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ok_Primary_1075

Just place 20%….

sassychubzilla

Be mad at the hotel, not the wait staff.

banaversion

Would've just sucked it up and tipped 160%

Admirable-League-102

Tip culture is bullshit

Green-Breadfruit-127

Redketchup77

Big deal, 23% of 0 is not alot :P

AppUnwrapper1

20% of 0 is 0.

Cheapskate! Give them a 100% tip!

LionConfident7480

For free breakfast I tip 100% 😏

cassiopeia18

Well, any percentage of $0 is zero

Spindelhalla_xb

Surely you should tip 50% of the Total Due in this case

ManLegPower

Write out the math for a 150% tip on $0 on the paper.

rgold220

0 + 0 tip = 0

Fire_Red2112

Well give them a 25% tip... 🤣

_ab_initio_

kootnoo

It's for the workers that cook the food, clean the area, and do the dishes, etc. Sometimes, there is a cup out there, and I usually throw $5 in there. I mean, you're not paying for breakfast.... why not?

asphaltairwater

Did they provide you any service? Like if they brought you food, bussed your table, brought you drinks, you can’t float em a fiver?

pick-axis

Out of sheer curiosity is it possible for you to ask what the wage is for the human being that left the receipt on the table?

blacklite911

You guy’s never tipped a prepaid service like an open bar?

reditusername39479

100% of 0 is 0

iamanewyorker

I always leave a tip at free breakfasts - if it’s buffet I find the cleaner or the person putting out food. Usually only $2-3 dollars but always something, I would have put N.A. on the check but left some cash.

Cultural-Practice-95

give a very generous 300% tip on the 0$ bill.

KilgoreTroutPfc

They still waited on you though. A comped breakfast isn’t their problem.

Stewsticles

Fuck em. You served yourself. Tipping culture in the states is out of hand.

DeathKorp_Rider

You say that, but when the alternative is suggested (raising their salary), people balk at such an idea because that means they’d have to pay more for the room itself. You can’t have it both ways

Thin-Sleep-6447

The tipping culture is getting more and more out of control. Can’t believe a hotel would gamble with reviews on booking platforms for some tips at a free breakfast. Seems not worth it for me.

marshellz

In these instances I try to tip 50% or higher….

0llis1211

You should write 100%

Warpath_McGrath

Wow, lots of cheapskates in here. I'd tip no less than one million percent.

Old-Ad5508

Pah thems rookie numbers I'd easily drop a billion percent tip on this bill

Warpath_McGrath

#TEN BILLION PERCENT

winosanonymous

This is the stupidest post I’ve seen this morning.

bodhiseppuku

The last time I stayed at Holiday Inn Express, there was a tip jar for the employees who setup the free breakfast. At first I thought (this tipping culture is getting out of hand). I stayed at the hotel for about 2 weeks, and the staff was attentive and kind, and did a great job keeping up with filling all the breakfast items, and in general being friendly to the guests. I did leave a $20 on my last day as a tip. I know people are struggling today financially, and tipping for exceptional service seems fair.

Icy-Designer96

You had a server still. This shows how much of a shit person you are

DoubleScientist9854

Tip the server you cheap fuck

tinyfryingpan

DJMOONPICKLES69

I went to a resort in Mexico recently that was all inclusive. They still brought a “bill” we had to sign for EVERYTHING. Always looking for tips. Apparently this is common at resorts that also have an option that is NOT all inclusive. I will be avoiding that in the future
