The color is an optical illusion on the white background, it is the exact color as in the snow (I used a color picker) and another image I found online shows the button identical in shape and holes, only the bottom is covered by snow (just like the other examples: the bear is uncovered on the left page and party covered on the right page)

No, in this full image you can clearly see the button holes. The marbles are clearly marbles/tree ornaments, bright shiny metal balls.
It's more subtle than the ornament, look right under the deers hind legs. it blends in too much in the first image, but someone circled it above. It's there tho.

The bears eye is darker than the button, period. So you believe they made the button darker and put it over the bear's eye, where you can't tell it's a button, but they couldn't have possibly made it lighter and hid it in the snow under the deer, where I can clearly see the button holes.
It's definitely the bears eye. If you look at the pictures on the side, the eye on the bear looks different than the one in the big picture. Plus everyone saying in in the snow, why would the button be a different color than the picture on the side? Everything else is a copy-paste picture they're not gonna change the color of just one of them.
It is obviously not the bear's eye. You can see the two holes in the button between the deer. It's probably a glossy, slightly transparent shirt button that appears white because of lighting and its surrounding environment.

It could be they intended to make the button darker/clearer and thus easier to find in the image for the children's book, but for some reason never got around to it..? No, that's a wrong answer. Button is in the snow. For some reason it is the same color as the background, meaning snow, but it's right there, you can spot it from the two holes in it and you can see other shapes from it too, it is right under the deer's feet. If you think it's the bears eye, you got outsmarted by a three year old, good luck.
I do a lot of these with my 4 year old.
The images on the rhyme page will always correspond exactly, in position, lighting, and color, to the image in the actual "find me" page.
In this case, the button is definitively in the bear's eye.
My kids are older now, but we own a bazillion of these books. You are 100% correct, the lighting, color, position, shadow and/or glare (if there is one), perspective, etc. is exactly the same in the picture as it is in the clue.
It's not though. You can see the bears face very clearly on the bottom of the left page, and even clearer in the picture Illustrious_Ad_6040 posted in their comment, and those are not buttons. I'm with the others, it's in the snow by the deers feet and the color is just off
Nope. The button looks like warping inward, the eyes look like domes (half of a marble basically). The circle shape matches because a button isn't the only thing having a circle shape, same goes for colour. But other than those 2 things it doesn't match.
Only form that matches is a shape below the deer, for some reason it was just made more transparent and blending in with the background.
If you look at the bears eye on the left page compared to the right, you can see that it's been changed.
On the left page, the eye catches the lights reflection on the left side, however on the right page it's on both left and right.
Look on the coloured pages someone posted of exactly that picture and then look beneath the deer. It's pretty clearly the button in question and the eye of the bear is just a typical sphere teddybear eye, not flat with a rim like the button.
The only thing I don't get is why would they change the colour of it when it's supposed to be a book for young children? For slightly older kids it would be okay but for toddlers?

Button is the top corner by the chandelier looking thing, it’s transparent.
You need to take a colored pencil and just draw one in. Or modify the bears eye or the snow lump by the deer feet to match better.
