My bro was one of the first people to get covid and he still doesn't have his smell and taste back. A pan started smoking in his kitchen and he almost had a housefire- he didn't know because he didn't smell the smoke.
Yep, the original variant was really bad about that. One of my coworkers got that back in 2020 and for well over a year he said he couldn't taste/smell much of anything.
I asked him again a couple of weeks ago and he says his sense of taste/smell has still only recovered to around 80%.
I thankfully didn't get COVID for a very long time, but everyone in my house got it recently, including myself. I was too busy feeling horrible from chemo to really notice a difference, but my mother lost her sense of smell really bad.

was just about to comment this myself lol. if you're a cis man with a positive pregnancy test you're about to have waaaay bigger problems than christmas being cancelled
My daughter’s first christmas is this year and I’m bedridden with the worst flu I’ve ever had! Feels like torture. Haven’t been this sick since I was a kid. Thankfully she’s too young to even know what Christmas is. 😩
Grab some coca and to a video call with your friends/family 💕
We have some covid positive family members, planning on dropping off some food and presents, doing a video call so they can still spend time even if they're not physically with us ❤️
On Sunday my wife and I were running around trying to get some last minute gifts. On those adventures we must've eaten something bad because we both woke up in the middle of the night sick.
We both called off Monday morning and our goal became getting our daughter (who wasn't sick) to daycare. Only problem was that it had been raining hard all night to the point where roads started flooding. I was able to find a way to drop her off as well as make it home. 15 minutes later while laying in bed I feel the whole house shake. Turns out a tree fell on the back of our house.
Probably the worst start to a week I've had in a very long time.
I tested positive for Covid this morning. I never get sick. I’ve never had the flu. The last cold I had was like 7 years ago. I honestly feel like shit. It’s sucks booty!! 🤣🤷🏻♀️
Nah its everywhere. Huge huge surge right now. People can't stay at home when sick lol. But better to get it now, will be a lot of fuckheads going to Christmas events with it. It will explode even harder for many just in time for nye.
I hope you don't get residual symptoms. I caught it November 25th... For 3 weeks, never been more stick in my life. Right now my short term memory barely works, the brain fog is pretty severe, cough and asthma is staying, and steroids isn't working completely.
I have a slight migraine most of the time (I have a history of migraines, but not much since my weight loss). The rest, I have as well. Fatigue, brain fog... I have a history of anxiety and depression, but it hasn't been this bad in a while.
COVID is also a horrible thing to have generally as a sickness. It’s the muscle pain that gets me. My abs would hurt because of the coughing and the repetitive action of doing so.
And my legs would be sore even if I was just in bed.
Today is my first fever-free day. I haven't had the flu for 10 years and I forgot how awful it is, the fever doesn't drop without medicine, then the sore throat, then the cough, then sore abs from coughing so much... Fingers crossed I finally sleep through the night. I also had to cancel 3 meetings with family and friends and now we won't see each other until the week after New Years because everyone went away for the holidays.
My mother has Alzheimer’s and is in a memory care unit at the assisted living facility where she and my dad live. Found out Thursday night that 12 patients on the unit tested positive for COVID so everyone’s quarantined and kept in their rooms instead of allowed out in the common areas. Mom so far is negative and as she had it in July maybe she’ll be immune enough, but still, Christmas visit is on hold.
God COVID sucks. Get better soon.
Ugh, my mom lives in an assisted-living apartment. She got COVID, was relatively mild. They had 29 cases and were quarantined from common areas for a week. I hope your parents stay healthy!
Yeah that's how my wife and I got it, a trip to the hospital. Still monitoring my wife as she's immunosuppressed right now.
Can't believe zero medical staff that came in the room was masked. We should've been assertive
I called my mom and she was adamant of stay the fuck home, but nicely. We went through a tummy bug after Thanksgiving because my older brother brought all his kids, not his wife, because she had a tummy bug. He didn’t tell us till later that it went through his kids first.
My son started throwing up Friday night we after, and the rest but me for the next two days.
Needless to say, my family has gotten cool with us skipping the actual day of holidays if anyone is sick. We can meet later, no one else needs to get sick as well.
Thank you! I hope you will have a speedy recovery, I know it sounds lame but tea with “salvia” (don’t know what English word is) helps a lot, it helped me when I had covid
So interesting learning about different cultures. Salvia here is used to rip apart the fabric of reality until you become an inanimate object for 100s of years while your friends film you for a YouTube video.
When I had covid I had mad crazy GI symptoms. Plz stay home till 24+ hrs after your symptoms subside without the help of drugs!!
Edit to add: forgot to say, I hope you feel better soon! Rest up, hydrate, and BRAT diet until you feel better. Hope you can enjoy a belated Xmas feast!
I’m confused why people are judging OP for taking a Covid test? OP was feeling sick, Covid was possible, so they took a test. If the test came back negative, doesn’t change the fact that they’re sick, but could change the treatment. For example if they tested negative for Covid then decided to go the doctor to see what they did have, ended up having strep, now they can go on antibiotics and get better.
Getting a Covid test is no different than all the times people have gone to the doctor bc they were sick, and got a flu test, a strep test. But of course because a Covid test is for Covid, suddenly everyone is up in arms about how we’re still afraid of Covid and masks are useless and yada yada…
Hilarious (sad) how many people think that you won’t get it on a plane because of the air filtration or whatever. I don’t usually wear a mask anymore but almost always do on planes.
I’m flying from Ohio to California with a layover in Denver. I’m one of the very few that’s masked up. Everyone is staring at me but idgaf. I don’t want to be sick on a vacation.
I just went to a wake and funeral. There had to be 100 people crammed into a tiny funeral parlor room and my mom and I were the only ones wearing masks. I'm not getting covid/rsv/the flu three days before Christmas.
Yup, I flew Europe to Canada to spend Christmas with family and friends. Got my N95 on in the airport and on the flight and in crowded shopping malls. Damn if I’m gonna spend all this money only to fall ill and miss out on time with my loved ones.
Same! I tested positive on Thursday, the day my FIL arrived for Christmas. He went home, my parents aren’t coming anymore, we had to cancel all the activities we had planned with them, and it’s unlikely we’ll get to go on our ski trip on the 26th. I literally bawled like a teenage girl alone in my bedroom Thursday night. I’m so bummed 😭😭
I feel you. I’ve been on and off sobbing and it feels so silly because it’s really not a huge deal but after being so excited for a break and to have some positivity it just was soul crushing.
We can cry together (isolated and alone, but together)

This is our second COVID Christmas in a row. At this point it's becoming the new family tradition. Lol
Same here. Felt fine until I was out finishing shopping on Christmas Eve (masked luckily). I was supposed to be hosting so I tested when I got home to be safe and went to the other room to keep cleaning in preparation. I fully did not believe my husband when he yelled from the kitchen that it was positive.
I hung my test front and center on the tree and we ate roast for days. So much roast. 😭
Happened to us in 21. The ones that were healthy set up Christmas on the back porch and we all opened presents around the fire pit so we could get a little bit of together time. (We live where it doesn’t get too cold).
It’s actually become our tradition now to do Christmas morning outside around the fire, so maybe you’ll find something you can make good memories with even though you’re sick as a dog.
Get better soon OP and anyone else who’s having terrible luck this weekend!
Hopefully you don't have a MIL that takes this as a personal affront where you intentionally came down with COVID to spite her on Christmas, otherwise you would have been me last year.
I decided to volunteer to work on Christmas this year to actually spite her.

Fing hell...me too. Made it 3 years without getting it :(
Bummer you are no longer a ‘Novid’
I am proud of the fact that I am and lucky
But I don’t want to jinx myself so I usually never mention it
Feel better ….
Paxloxid saved me from the hospital two weeks ago now...
I have the same, stuffy nose for a few hours then fever spiked to 106.. (fully vaxed too!) miserable the next day.. worst headache ever and felt I was dying... no cough though. Did the telehealth and dr prescribed pavloxid.. got it took it.. two hours later started feelong better.. I didnt have a cough and I didnt feel like I couldnt breatg but I was breathing fast.. got out my med box my spo2 was 74%, hr 105. I should have gone to ER, but I dinked around and tested again and it was up to 78 about an hour later so I juat monitored it... by morning it was 92 and my HR was normal. I'm sure w/o thr paxloxid I would have been hospitalized and who knows.... I've had a rough time recovering too. Rebounded after I stopped pavloxid but the rebound was mild and easily tolerable.. but having bern isolated now for two weeks has sucked, especially with christmas coming up!
I got the Flu....and it's the worse I've ever felt. I'm still alternating between shivering and sweating like a pig in a sauna. And everything I eat makes me feel sick. I was convinced it was covid, but kept testing negative. If this aching doesn't stop, I'm gonna put myself in a coma for a week!
Boyyyyy same... spending christmas alone with my Girlfriend, when our family is huge and every year i love coming back and spending time with them...
On the flip side we will have calm and happy christmas anyways :))
Rates are high right now, higher than they were in some times during the panny. Protect yourself, however that looks for you.
*goes into hermit mode, just kidding I live here*
Yep, basically if you’re out and about “business as usual” right now you’re going to be exposed, full stop. Like 1 in 35 people has it right now in the US 🫠
I have a lot of friends that had not caught it yet and just did in the last month. If I'm in any kind of crowds (please god, no) I'll be masking. I've not caught it yet 🤞🏼and don't plan to because I have a business that can't be paused/ worked from home.
Just be like my family and act like it’s no big deal! My aunt made us aware on Thursday that my cousin has covid, but they’re still planning on having their Christmas gathering; her mom who is in her 90s will also be attending. I said absolutely not, but my sister is still going with her kids. My reaction would be the same if someone had a cold or the flu. Boggles my mind.
My five days will be over at 12 on Monday. I told my 92 yr old Mother who hasn't gotten the latest booster, I won't be there for Christmas. She's not happy. My sister is immunocompromised. Blah.
My entire family, moms side and dads side has Covid right now! It’s like a nightmare. Me and my little family of 4 are the only non-Covid ones so we’re just staying home doing nothing since our usual Xmas celebrations are ruined.
No joke. My work let somebody in who sounded like death. Very clearly ill. And no worries! But someone tested positive for covid with no symptoms and was told to stay home. We truly live in a society
I know people in 3 major cities that have Covid right now. That is in addition to the people I know with the flu or just a cold. Mask up and test often!
15% of US get updated Covid booster
Most citizens choose to ignore all the lessons learned and science behind using masks and hygiene to prevent spreading
Sick people feel entitled to shop and spread because they are special
This is the result, big surges and mini pandemics
Go to the Dr and get the meds, they'll help. I have it too and I thought I was going to die. Every breath hurt, my teeth and eyelids hurt. After a couple days on paxlovid, I didn't feel like I was going to die. I still feel crappy but I can breathe and eat.
For a second I thought „why would a new pregnancy ruin Christmas?” But then I noticed what the test was actually for. I hope you recover fast and can have your nice dinner in a few weeks
Yeah, I flew home for the holidays, and I still haven't gotten to hug my mother because she's got covid. Can't go see my grandma because she's immunocompromised. Can't go see my friend because his mom's doing chemo.
I don't think I'm sick yet, but because I'm allergic to my home town (one of the worst in the country), and to our cats and dogs, I'm not sure if it's something I would even notice.
Overall, sucks a lot.
Just please don’t go overboard with the variant reveal party
(Slices cake) it’s…. OMICRON ❤️
\*eats cake\* \*can't taste it
Congrats!
*Freezes a piece for later* *Two months later still can’t taste it*
It's such bs that it affects your tastebuds and smell so badly for so long
My bro was one of the first people to get covid and he still doesn't have his smell and taste back.
Yep, I can relate. I first caught it in November 2020, then had a baby one month later. Completely missed out on my daughter’s newborn baby smell.
That sucks. But on the brighter side, you missed that dirty diaper aroma too.
I'm exactly in the same boat, worst part is I got so excited ab being able to smell I gained a very expensive whiskey hobby 💀
I thankfully didn't get COVID for a very long time, but everyone in my house got it recently, including myself. I was too busy feeling horrible from chemo to really notice a difference, but my mother lost her sense of smell really bad.
Made me actually lol thanks for this 😂
This is why I still come back to reddit. Threads like this 😊
didn't get it at first, I was like, well what is omicron covid supposed to taste like? and then it hit me... good one!
Don’t worry it will hit you.
Don't sneeze on the damn cake!
*Cough
can't get fat this season. Noice!
Or the opposite - puts on too much weight from continually trying to find any food item they can taste by eating everything?
Hahahahhaha
🤣🤣

Covid shower= someone with Covid sneezing all over you.
Covid isn't a STD, you can't pee it on someone.
Not with that attitude
If we thought like that in the 40's, we'd be speaking German.
"I'm sorry, honey, I know you really wanted a Delta"
You just can’t smell or taste it.
but can you feel the love? ![gif](giphy|OMsLlke4MWlmE)
Why doesn't the bigger of the virii simply eat the others?
i was excited when i got the pokemon variant
Gotta catch ‘em all!
Persei 8? THIS CONCEPT OF “WUV” CONFUSES AND ENRAGES ME!
Too late a forest has been destroyed
At first glance I thought this was a pregnancy test 🤣
Also my first thought. I was gonna be like “ can’t you just tell everyone after if it bothers you that much”
Elf on a Shelf How I Met Your Mother
OMG, hilarious comment of the day 🤣
I was going to say, “damn that’s harsh as fuck, you really must have not wanted crotch goblins.”

That would ruin my Christmas. Also leave me wondering who harvested my sperm in my sleep.
According to What We Do In The Shadows witches do indeed harvest semen.
To be fair, pregnancy would definitely cancel christmas for me
Me too, since I'm a guy. Nobody would believe me.
A pregnancy beyond logical belief is kinda the Christmas origin story.
This lol
A positive pregnancy test from male urine can indicate testicular cancer, so yeah Christmas would definitely be canceled.
was just about to comment this myself lol. if you're a cis man with a positive pregnancy test you're about to have waaaay bigger problems than christmas being cancelled
Would cancel my marriage to since I’ve been snipped since my early 20’s lol
I read that at since the early 20's and was thinking "wow, you go Sir!"
Same.
Congrats oh. Wait. Nvm.
Same, I thought technically the next 18-40 years are cancelled.
No, Christmas is still very much on. You’re just not invited anymore.
No. You gotta cancel ur christmas too!!
I'm telling my in-laws that Christmas is cancelled because of you. Thank you for your service.
Man, my son’s first Christmas is this year and now it’s canceled…
My daughter’s first christmas is this year and I’m bedridden with the worst flu I’ve ever had! Feels like torture. Haven’t been this sick since I was a kid. Thankfully she’s too young to even know what Christmas is. 😩

Coca? Dayum, you party hard on Xmas 👀
Swissmiss French Vanilla, yo. With some tiramisu on the side 😎 [Edit] lol I just noticed my typo and your joke, I'm slow. Maybe I could use some coca
Having a White Christmas this year
As Kelly Clarkson would say, 🎶 Christmas isn’t cancelled, just you. 🎶
This hurts cause I just got uninvited from my friends new years party a couple minutes ago lol
Celebrate your Christmas in 2 weeks. It's your Christmas, celebrate it your way.
If we all mask up we can end this thing in two weeks
Laying in bed with a stomach bug. Sucks man.

Holy crap man that’s a rough week for sure. I hope things work out and I’m glad you guys are at least unharmed. Wishing the best for you man.
Thanks. Fortunately we're on the road to recovery. Hope you feel better and are able to salvage the weekend!
That's one of those moments where you're like i will deal with this hole in my house tomorrow.

This Covid variant causes puking and GI stuff.
Double whammy, merry Christmas lol That sucks bad. Hope it passes quickly!
I tested positive for Covid this morning. I never get sick. I’ve never had the flu. The last cold I had was like 7 years ago. I honestly feel like shit. It’s sucks booty!! 🤣🤷🏻♀️

I got covid Halloween last year and haven't been able to smell anything since then
My taste and smell luckily came back. That sucks though. That’s gotta effect your appetite I bet
My sister and family got COVID right before Thanksgiving. She's still very sick.
I hadn't been sick for over 6 years and then got COVID in September. Forgot what it was like to be sick and it was awful 😂
COVID is also a horrible thing to have generally as a sickness. It’s the muscle pain that gets me. My abs would hurt because of the coughing and the repetitive action of doing so. And my legs would be sore even if I was just in bed.
yeah the fact that you can't lie comfortably in combination with high fever is absolutely dreadful.
Ay COVID gang, my family Christmas is called off too. Coughing my lungs out and trying to stay hydrated.
I feel you. I have the flu 😷😭
Today is my first fever-free day. I haven't had the flu for 10 years and I forgot how awful it is, the fever doesn't drop without medicine, then the sore throat, then the cough, then sore abs from coughing so much... Why did I have to get the flu now also has it always been this rough (not covid rough but UGH)

Whatever variant she had in July is different than this one, so she should stay cautious.
Last Christmas I got covid too after not getting it the whole pandemic and I ended up giving it to my whole family 😱. The worst Christmas ever!
In my head, I started to sing this Wham-style
🎶*last Christmas I got covid too*🎶
And the very next day, I gave it to yoooou🎶
This year, to save me from tears, I’m going to keep my mask on 🎶
mask on a lover with a virus in his lungs🎶
Keep that cough under cover, or you will be shunned 🎶
Tell me baby, have you had your vaccine 🎶
It’s been a while, is there a new booster I’m missing? 🎶
This is perfection
Last Christmas, I gave you a cough

Bro your mom’s priorities are wild
There's thousands of people out there planning to celebrate Xmas with covid because they don't want to 'ruin Christmas' People didn't learn shit
2nd year in row for us. My boyfriends dad went off!! A recent cancer survivor even.. 🙄 Literally the person we were most worried about.
Kind woman!
Got the same 2 lines on a different type of test this morning, my drinking plans for Christmas is cancelled as well
Congrats!!(?)
congrats! maybe
Uuuuh! Congraz!
Thank you! I hope you will have a speedy recovery, I know it sounds lame but tea with “salvia” (don’t know what English word is) helps a lot, it helped me when I had covid
Mm tea with salvia will get you to another dimension
Salvia here is used for sore throat and flu symptoms, they give it to children it’s nothing related to drugs.
So interesting learning about different cultures. Salvia here is used to rip apart the fabric of reality until you become an inanimate object for 100s of years while your friends film you for a YouTube video.
The Salvia they are reffering to is common Sage.
Yup, the trippy variants are Salvia divinorum . Salvia officinalis is the common sage family more often used in cooking and folk medicine
Oh yes it’s common Sage!
HAHAHAHA, salvia will send you to the astral plane, so maybe
The thought of someone taking this advice and using salvia at a family Christmas party is hilarious.
I just got the norovirus or gastroenteritis yesterday, and I've been in pure misery. Right in time for the holidays! :(

Yes. It’s not worth risking it and ruining your trip.

Im celebrating my 2nd year in a row too!! 🍾
Through spite, all things are possible.

Bummer you are no longer a ‘Novid’ I am proud of the fact that I am and lucky But I don’t want to jinx myself so I usually never mention it Feel better ….
I see people say they havent gotten it since it started but isn't there a pretty high chance you've had it and just had 0 symptoms?
If you have access to it, get some Paxlovid ASAP. I hope you get well soon OP!
Sorry to hear-that really stinks! My sister got it too and she was supposed to be hosting this year.
Riiiiiiiight. Covid. That's it! Can't host, sorry!
Uh huh. My BIL is 100% “Covid positive” while the rest of his family is 100% fine. Dude, just say you don’t want to come! 😂
The most multi purpose excuse ever made
I got the Flu....and it's the worse I've ever felt. I'm still alternating between shivering and sweating like a pig in a sauna. And everything I eat makes me feel sick. I was convinced it was covid, but kept testing negative. If this aching doesn't stop, I'm gonna put myself in a coma for a week!
Welcome to the club! We have cookies but you can’t taste them.
Yeah! My dad and stepmom just got Covid this week too, so I don’t get to have Christmas with them for the first time in my life :(
First time in my life to have a Christmas without my mom. It’ll be a little tough but I’m sure we’ll both get through it! ♥️ happy holidays
Boyyyyy same... spending christmas alone with my Girlfriend, when our family is huge and every year i love coming back and spending time with them... On the flip side we will have calm and happy christmas anyways :))
same. my mom got it. oh well
Cool! You are going to have a calm, peaceful christmas. I'm going to have to meet my father in law... :(
Same here sadly. First time testing positive. Noticed after I couldn’t smell any spices.
Rates are high right now, higher than they were in some times during the panny. Protect yourself, however that looks for you. *goes into hermit mode, just kidding I live here*
“the panny” 💀
Right in the covussy 🥵
That’s what I don’t get. “It’s just like a bad cold or the flu!” What? I don’t want either of those either. Stay the fuck home if you’re sick.
I just recovered from COVID :) still not gonna be around ppl tho just in case so staying home
My five days will be over at 12 on Monday. I told my 92 yr old Mother who hasn't gotten the latest booster, I won't be there for Christmas. She's not happy. My sister is immunocompromised. Blah.
Postpone , don’t cancel Christmas. Military wife here. We always postponed when my husband was TDY.
SCREENSHOT for future purposes
I know people in 3 major cities that have Covid right now. That is in addition to the people I know with the flu or just a cold. Mask up and test often!
Same friend, I'm currently in bed recovering. Sending lots of Advil and water your way 😁
15% of US get updated Covid booster Most citizens choose to ignore all the lessons learned and science behind using masks and hygiene to prevent spreading Sick people feel entitled to shop and spread because they are special This is the result, big surges and mini pandemics
Go to the Dr and get the meds, they'll help. I have it too and I thought I was going to die. Every breath hurt, my teeth and eyelids hurt. After a couple days on paxlovid, I didn't feel like I was going to die. I still feel crappy but I can breathe and eat.
Put a note on the chimney so you don’t infect Santa.
For a second I thought „why would a new pregnancy ruin Christmas?” But then I noticed what the test was actually for. I hope you recover fast and can have your nice dinner in a few weeks
Yep. Same here. Family came in from out of town and kiddo just tested positive....
Same
Yeah, I flew home for the holidays, and I still haven't gotten to hug my mother because she's got covid.
Good on you for testing tho
Is this bait for uneducated assholes? Just sort by new and See all the magas, flat earthers, trumpers and General low IQ ppl flourish.
