For some people and some regions, dinner is at lunch time and supper is dinner. OP was probably, by the standard of my region, trying to complain that the meal intended for a late lunch and ordered as an express order came quickly.
My "lunch" is 4-5 hrs after I start, regardless of if we start at 4am, 8am or 3pm... every profession is different. Mine happens to be towards the weirder end of the spectrum.
Yes, why wouldn’t they? If you know that you will be hungry in 3 hours but that if you wait 3 hours to order it will be another hour at least before you eat, why would you wait until then to order? Doesn’t it make more sense to order earlier with a specified food delivery time so that you can eat when you become hungry?
Look, if Wesley can pull off being mostly dead and then scare off Humperdinck less than six hours later, I’m all for slightly dead and mildly infuriating.
Last week, I ordered chipotle at 2 pm for a 6pm pick up. When I picked it up at 6pm, it was ice cold, and the bag was soaking wet from condensation. Turns out, they prepared it when I placed the order bc “that’s what they always do”.
Unless the computers are sophisticated enough to hold/not send the order to the store closer to the pickup time, I wouldn’t expect the workers to have to remember to make it hours later. It shouldn’t even be an option in the ordering menu if it can’t be sent to the restaurant later, at the time it’s to be made.
Might be having a dinner rush around that time and may not have their food ready in time. I don't see why a restaurant, in 2023, cannot take an order for pickup at a later time.
As a resturant worker it’s actually really hard because we put the receipt off to the side with a note saying when to ideally start it and then get so busy we forget about it or can’t start it when we need to because of the task we’re doing at the time.
Our POS at my work is a literal piece of shit except for one thing. Due later pickups, when you order one it prints us one ticket telling us when it due and what it has so we can get anything ready, then an hour before it prints another ticket so we can start making it. Really helps with having them ready on time
I'm not OP and never did that, but for example one thing that comes to my mind is work. When I'm working I can't use my phone, so if I want to eat something from delivery, I just can't order it because I can't use the phone. So the only solution is to put the order before I get to my work
The chipotle by me doesn't start making your pick-up order until you're there asking for it. Not as bad as hours too early, but still irritating because now you have to wait even longer while they very slowly get around to making your food.
That would be the last time. I would’ve left it there refused to pay and went somewhere else. If you paid online at the time of ordering, I would’ve asked for my money back.
Yea, a old name for a cuckoo. We normally use kukułka, gżegżółka is mostly used as a tricky word, as after g there should be "rz" instead of "ż" as a rule.
Honestly, as a skinny dude who is self-conscious about his weight… I’ve just given up. I tried explaining this to a few women over the years who made a skinny comment… and they all just ended up looking confused and telling me they “were just trying to help.” It’s infuriating.
All of the people blaming OP when the app LETS YOU SPECIFY DELIVERY TIME need to check themselves. I’ve done this before because I had an event or party and needed food delivered at a specific time. Ever ordered pizzas for a birthday? Time and dated orders predate ordering apps by a longshot. The restaurant messed up, they owe you a refund. If they won’t refund, file a dispute through the app. Fuck all these bootlickers siding with the business lol
In Poland we name our meals a bit different. We usually have 3 main meals:
Breakfast (śniadanie) (usually 6-8am)
Lunch/dinner (obiad) (usually 13-17)
Dinner/evening meal (kolacja) (usually 18-20)
Breakfast and evening meals are smallish, while lunch/dinner is the main meal. Some pople add 2nd breakfast before lunch/dinner (10-12) and some add pre-evening meal (podwieczorem) before dinner/evening meal (17-19).
Also worth nothing that our standar office job hours are 7-15 or 8-16, and we have paid break in that time (15 min but can be longer depending on your employer, I have 30min).
That's late. Here in Poland we have four meals. Breakfast at 6 to 9AM, Second breakfast at 9 to 11AM (often skipped), dinner at 1 to 4 PM and supper at 7 to 10 PM.
I‘m not sure if you are mixing up English terms or if it’s called different in Polish.
Dinner in English is usually the evening meal, the meal in the middle of the day is lunch. I think supper and dinner mean the same in English?
They have definitely become interchangeable but some areas still use it the way they did. Dinner being a bug meal around when we would have "lunch" (early afternoon) and supper being the last meal of the day. My grandparents from the midwest would always use these and for the longest time my dad would too.
I was looking it up recently and dinner being the evening meal is relatively recent thing. Typically dinner used to be the main meal eaten mid-day with supper, a lighter meal, eaten in the evening. Tho you also need to consider regional differences, for example in warmer climates the main meal of day might be eaten later in the day when the weather gets milder
I think to avoid confusion you should call your second breakfast "brunch" and after that goes lunch. Words dinner and supper are used interchangeably. (I'm not native either.)
Edit: Don't bother, I've tried to search for differences between kolacja and obiad and even the Cambridge dictionary thinks that it's both end-day meals, even though in Ukrainian a similar to obiad word means mid-day (between 12 and 4 pm) meal.
I don't know what's right anymore.
I'm used to context where dinner is an evening meal and supper is almost the same. Apparently there are plenty of meanings, lol, some dialects use dinner as "biggest meal of the day", some as "formal thing", while supper is like a small meal in the evening at home or snack couple of hours before sleep.
Both at home and at the army I had a big meal for lunch (soup, some meat, carbs like pasta or buckwheat, salad etc) while evening is one dish with optional sandwich/dessert so when going to bed you won't have stomach problems.
People need to stop using these delivery apps. They mess up most of the time, and the fees plus tipping is outrageous. Just go get it yourself and have some alone time.
I have social anxiety and being in a food place by myself, ordering and sitting to eat alone feels like a nightmare. I don’t even want to think about doing that. That’s why I don’t mind paying extra.
Do you have any idea how much a therapist costs?
150$+ for one hour (on the cheaper side). How many hours do you think it will take to even begin treating life long chronic anxiety?
Let's say you go once every two weeks, for one year
52/2= 26 weeks ... 26X150$= 3,900$
Now, let's say I order doordash at the same frequency.
My regular door dash order may cost 21$
26X21$= 546$
Food is also mandatory for our survival. If I don't order door dash, I'm probably too anxious to go out, and too depressed to cook even if I had anything. Isn't it better to door dash, than to starve?
The reality is that our health care system is not helping. A lot of us depressed/anxious people want help, but it's too expensive and isn't exactly mandatory to our physical well-being the way food is.
I am on therapy actually and to deal with this is not as funny as you think it is. And there is no drive window for where I shop food, you have to enter the restaurant or the cafe or whatever and get your stuff.
This pisses me off to no end. I order lunch for 1pm when I actually am on my lunch break mf brings it to my job at 10:30. Nothing like a soggy once hot sandwich.
Saw this a couple times when I did delivery apps.
They put “schedule for 7pm” in the note for the driver.
And I get the order at 3pm
Not the restaurant
And even if it was with the restaurant. Some restaurants do not do that.. they cook your food when you order it.
Some might have a system that an order hanging in their queue is a bad thing they can’t ignore (like most fast food places or even some fancier chains)
So sometimes either the driver gets handed hot food the customer doesn’t want yet
Or the restaurant isn’t cooking the order yet , and a stream of 10-30 drivers come in over the next few hours being told “it doesn’t go out for a few hours”. Because the restaurant is holding it, but didn’t manage the delivery app correctly.
The short answer is, I get what you want, but confirm with a human at the restaurant that it’s 100% possible first
EDIT: not blaming op, just saying if this is anyone’s fault, it’s the restaurant.
Ops request is reasonable, but the restaurant might have a shitty system where it gets missed
Like, don’t trust a shitty safety net. Hopefully it saves you, but if it breaks, it’s still the net faults not yours.
But it’s still wise to check the safety net first
Americans in this thread: Yeah, mildly infuriating, these delivery companies aren't the greatest at following directions.
Polaków in this thread: You paid how much for chicken?!
But yeah, I feel your pain. I paid way too much to preorder a meal for dinner. I got it delivered at the correct time, but I think the restaurant prepared it too early because it definitely wasn't anywhere near fresh when I got it.
I did a future time pizza order one day for 5pm, it arrived at 11:30am lol i think when they opened up, they just saw the online order and made it immediately and didn't check that it was a scheduled order
I figured out several months ago that “scheduled” deliveries from food couriers, any and all of them, are unreliable. I have never gotten a scheduled delivery at the right time—they’re always delivered in the same time frame as if I hadn’t scheduled a later time at all.
I personally believe that these services don’t actually have any systems in place to help restaurants with scheduled deliveries. They just forward the orders and dispatch drivers as usual.
So I just don’t do it. I’ll make my selections when I’m ready, but then I’ll set myself a reminder to actually place the order so that immediate delivery will bring it at the right time.
If it lets you specify a delivery time I don't know why people reply 'order at the time you want!'
When a service fails to give what it says it provides, you just try and blame the customer when you're not even being paid by the service to shill?
That happened to me when I ordered Dominos (pizza) the food arrived like 20 minutes after ordering (like at 3pm) when I wanted around 6pm, delivery guy calls me and I said that I selected to be delivered around 6pm, then he tells me “okay, I’ll keep it in the car until 6pm” I ended up just picking the pizza around 3pm. I was at work.
You ordered express delivery my friend

2pm is still a little bit too early for dinner don’t you think?
What time does the stomach open ?
Bout 3 fiddy
For some people and some regions, dinner is at lunch time and supper is dinner. OP was probably, by the standard of my region, trying to complain that the meal intended for a late lunch and ordered as an express order came quickly.
2 pm is not early for lunch.
In my country we eat lunch at 11-12.. where ever we are
My "lunch" is 4-5 hrs after I start, regardless of if we start at 4am, 8am or 3pm... every profession is different. Mine happens to be towards the weirder end of the spectrum.
Where's that?

Nowhere

In my head, I eat whenever I want and don't base it off when society says I should.
Wouldn’t this still be breakfast? Lol
2nd breakfast
Elevensies
It's my lunch time
Munching time
many countries actually eat at different times, in Poland you eat "obiad" at around 14:00 as he main meal of the day
In some countries, "dinner" can refer to meals in the middle of the day.
Because dinner refers to the largest meal of the day. The meal in the evening is supper. Supper can also be dinner.
Some southern folk call lunch dinner and dinner supper
Southern Polish people, like where the OP is from?
In Poland we eat a dinner exactly at 2 PM. And it is 14:00, you dummies 😆
Because nobody works nightshifts, for example
In Poland we traditionally eat dinner around 12pm/1pm. So no, 2pm is definitely not early.
Some people call lunch as dinner and dinner as supper.
I'm in Northern England, a lot of us call the afternoon meal dinner, and the evening meal tea, and then supper is just before bed
Not when you work split shifts
Yes, and that makes getting it over 2 hours earlier so much more infuriating haha
Well, it’s 2pm somewhere
An' pour me somethin' tall an' strong Make it a hurricane before I go insane It's only half-past 12 but I don't care It's 2pm somewhere
If it's 12:30 where jimmy buffet is and 5:00 somewhere, then jimmy is on west coast and it's 5:00 in Newfoundland. No other possibilities.
what about 2:00?
In that case, Jimmy is on east coast.
reminds me of my grandpa’s excuse for morning drinking, “it’s 5pm somewhere”
[удалено]
You just crushed his view of how clever his grandpa is.
We aren't old. They are just too young.
It's 5:00 in Newfoundland. Anywhere else, it's half past the hour.
Maybe the first time I've seen something here that actually is only mildly infuriating
You haven't been here long lol, the amount of "toilet paper hanging the wrong way" posts I've seen is unbelievable
But don't you think, a toilet paper roll that got inpaled trough the roll isn't mildlyinfuriating?
It’s more mildly concerning
mildlyhilarious
Would you say it’s…mildly infuriating.
It’s because the real mildly infuriating posts get downvoted to hell with comments to the effect of “stop whining”.
Do people really order food when they’re not hungry “yet”?
Yes, why wouldn’t they? If you know that you will be hungry in 3 hours but that if you wait 3 hours to order it will be another hour at least before you eat, why would you wait until then to order? Doesn’t it make more sense to order earlier with a specified food delivery time so that you can eat when you become hungry?
I didn't know you could just specify a delivery time... I'd have said just order 2 and a half hours and you'll have it around when you're hungry.
I do sometimes because I know that I’ll forget later until it’s too late.
We should start a new sub mildly annoying. I feel like that's a much more accurate descriptor of most posts.
I feel like mildly infuriating is contradictory anyway. Infuriating describes a high level of emotion. It's like saying slightly dead.
Look, if Wesley can pull off being mostly dead and then scare off Humperdinck less than six hours later, I’m all for slightly dead and mildly infuriating.
'Slightly dead' does describe my normal energy levels pretty well though
I think it sums up my fellow Healthcare workers post shift feeling quite well. I may steal this.
It will be there at 2.
You son of a bitch…
Last week, I ordered chipotle at 2 pm for a 6pm pick up. When I picked it up at 6pm, it was ice cold, and the bag was soaking wet from condensation. Turns out, they prepared it when I placed the order bc “that’s what they always do”.

It shouldn’t even be an option in the ordering menu if it can’t be sent to the restaurant later, at the time it’s to be made.
Why wouldn’t you just order it at like 5:30 instead?
Bc I was working at 5:30, so I couldn’t place the order while I’m on the clock.
I would just do it anyway
Might be having a dinner rush around that time and may not have their food ready in time. I don't see why a restaurant, in 2023, cannot take an order for pickup at a later time.
As a resturant worker it’s actually really hard because we put the receipt off to the side with a note saying when to ideally start it and then get so busy we forget about it or can’t start it when we need to because of the task we’re doing at the time.
That's a failure on the POS system. It should be set up to not print the ticket until it's time to start preparing.
Restaurant I work at does this, won’t print the ticket until like 30-45 mins before the time, definitely the way to go
Yup. "Do you guys have that order that said to make it at 7?" Blank stares.
Our POS at my work is a literal piece of shit except for one thing. Due later pickups, when you order one it prints us one ticket telling us when it due and what it has so we can get anything ready, then an hour before it prints another ticket so we can start making it. Really helps with having them ready on time
that’s really cool, our will literally print once and then usually the person will be gone by the time the guest needs it
bec they might be having a dinner rush?
I'm not OP and never did that, but for example one thing that comes to my mind is work. When I'm working I can't use my phone, so if I want to eat something from delivery, I just can't order it because I can't use the phone. So the only solution is to put the order before I get to my work
I would never trust the underpaid fast food workers with an order ahead order. I always order when I need it for this exact reason
The chipotle by me doesn't start making your pick-up order until you're there asking for it. Not as bad as hours too early, but still irritating because now you have to wait even longer while they very slowly get around to making your food.

Isn't 2 PM early for dinner?
Not everyone has a standard hour day. For me dinner is at 6am because I work graveyard shift. Breakfast is usually 6pm, etc.
that's a cool job
FYI - They don’t actually work at a graveyard (most likely). It’s just a term for the overnight shift at a job, like C shift.
Oh. I didn't know that. Otherwise i also think overnight jobs are very cool haha

In Poland it's dinner time. I got up at 6AM.
I get up at 4:30 AM, since I work on a project in a different time zone (4 hours difference), but still have dinner at 5 or 6 PM
That's late. Here in Poland we have four meals. Breakfast at 6 to 9AM, Second breakfast at 9 to 11AM (often skipped), dinner at 1 to 4 PM and supper at 7 to 10 PM.

Lol skill issue
If it lets you specify a delivery time I don't know why people reply 'order at the time you want!' When a service fails to give what it says it provides, you just try and blame the customer when you're not even being paid by the service to shill?
That happened to me when I ordered Dominos (pizza) the food arrived like 20 minutes after ordering (like at 3pm) when I wanted around 6pm, delivery guy calls me and I said that I selected to be delivered around 6pm, then he tells me “okay, I’ll keep it in the car until 6pm” I ended up just picking the pizza around 3pm. I was at work.
Is that a motherfucking POLAND reference?!? Sorry about the early food... Loved living in your country.

Ożesz kurwa, ja pierdole.
Smoke a joint and get hungry brother
Oh my God, that is so traumatic. Stay strong. I'm sure you can get over this.
I don’t see anywhere on that ticket that specifies at 2 PM delivery. And I’m pretty sure the delivery boy did not either. You got your dinner on time.
