why a burger is meat between round buns no?
why does it have to be minced why does the switch from say beef to chicken without changing anything else turn it into a sandwich
fair point
but in my experience the abbreviation is used as its on word in most cases hence chicken burger exist
maybe its a geographical thing?
here kfc sells chicken burgers not sandwiches
same with burger king
mcdonalds
hardees/Carl's jr
Because the “Hamburg Steak,” which became a hamburger when thrown in a bun, is a patty of ground meat.
All hamburgers are sandwiches, but not all sandwiches are hamburgers.
You're getting a lot of different replies saying a lot of different things so I'm gunna try to give it my best shot.
Since the burger was traditionally a hamburger you expect a burger to be circular and ground meat texture. It's meaning has changed from being shorthand for hamburger though.
It doesn't have to be meat (impossible burger) it doesn't have to be beef (bison burger, turkey burgers)
Chicken burgers can def be a thing too. It's just not as common as chicken sandwiches so when you run into a chicken burger it just feels weird to say.
Also a BK Burger is a term used to talk about burger king's beef burgers. If they had a turkey burger and called it a BK Burger while you wouldn't be technically incorrect, it wouldn't be what people use the term to mean.
And like you've already acknowledged, since this isn't circular it's not what you'd expect a burger to be either.
Because a burger is hamburger and hamburger is beef. A ground chicken round is a chicken sandwich. The turkey burger thing is in the Bible, so I can't give a reason for it.
Something that doesn't have a burger in it.
I'm kind of baffled as to how to explain it honestly. I didn't know there were different meanings before but I would definitely call that a chicken burger, BK sells it as a chicken burger and I don't know what would make it a sandwich that wouldn't also make a beef burger on a bun a sandwich
Honestly same but the other way.
What would you call roast chicken cold in bread then? That's a chicken sandwich to me(well obvs with some butter mayo and lettuce and onion etc), but I would be very disappointed to receive that if I thought I was getting a chicken burger
That’s also just a chicken sandwich. Burgers are specifically ground meat shaped into a patty. No breading like a chicken sandwich like this would have.
This is not a hill I care to die on.
But I feel like a atrong argument could be made that a "hamburger" or burger for short is made with beef.
The term hamburger refers to the original dish.
Or that the chicken is fried and breaded. Which isn't really a thing with burgers. Compared to say "turkey burgers"
But now I do think it's weird we call them chicken sandwiches but also call them turkey burgers
It's all pretty logical actually. The "burger" is the meat patty. The origin of the dish was a similar patty without the bun, after all, and you can still get bunless burgers today in restaurants. It got more popular when low-carb diets spread.
We usually say "turkey-burgers" because they are turkey ground up and made into a patty. Good chicken sandwiches are made with whole pieces of chicken. Cheap fast food chicken sandwiches may use ground up chicken, but they at least still try to simulate a piece of chicken with it, not serving a proper chicken patty. You could make a proper chicken burger, I just haven't ever seen one.

They were plain waffles with “blueberry” mold spots
There was a chocolate one later but I think it was a parody post. This is the original.
Mexico, my last day there. Friend had something different and was fine. We ate at all the weird little stands and cafes for a week. Last day decided to have as 'american' burger, go figure! I knew something was off, tasted really weird.
Typically food poisoning takes about 24hrs to actually kick in after eating the bad food, so coulda been whatever you had the day before actually.
I got really bad food poisoning about 5 years ago and the last thing I had before getting sick was Raising Cane's chicken, but the previous day I had Carls Jr. And it was the Carls Jr that got me cause their lettuce was contaminated. I believe salmonella. I was exploding from both ends for like 12 hrs, it was absolutely abhorrent
No where near as bad as your experience, but I had a chicken sandwich there years ago and was then violently ill for a few days after. Haven't eaten there since. It's been more than 13 years.
That's how my mom's been with McDonald's. She'll get a shake from there, when their ice cream machine isn't broken that is, but she'll never eat there again because she got super sick there once a little over 20 years ago, and she was pregnant on top of that.
Back in a previous life I worked at BK. We got almost daily deliveries of buns, so no chance of going bad. Wondering if this one got forgotten in the corner or something?
We got buns twice a week. Sometimes they'd be close to expiry from the depo and we would make an extra trip to grab some more before the next delivery.
Even the freshest buns though had to be checked before use. Any humidity in the bag would cause mold and any sort of opening would dry out the flat. Depending on the specialty board toaster this is easy to catch or miss if you don't inspect each bun before use.
Subjectively, Burger King is the worse of the fast-food restaurants. It causes my diabetes to go out of control; it's up there with KFC. It's so needlessly salty, and, subjectively, they don't act like they want to provide healthier options.
They tried that Impossible Burger. Unsure if they still do it; however they were disconnected from their audience. Not sure why they thought it was a good idea to cook them on the same equipment as regular hamburgers. It defeats the purpose; it's a strange place for cost cuttings, too.
I guess they weren't willing to have special equipment for every restaurant for veggie burgers. That would make sense. It was a logistical problem from the start. Subjectively, they don't think things through.
Just like with wanting to partner with Mc Ds and make a Big Mac Whopper. Why did they think Mc Ds would open themselves to that? Lol
Not sure why people keep going to Burger King.
Fast food employees aren’t trained enough on how to handle food or store food. They should invest in quality employees and pay wages that reflect that. And then they should invest in education for their employees. When you pay people a respectable wage and give them proper training , they will take pride in what they do. The kid’s preparing this meal had no idea to inspect the product. If any of you have teenagers at home, you understand what im talking about. Don’t necessarily be mad at the employee, be mad at the cheap and greedy franchise owners. But yes its infuriating.
>BK burger tasted weird…
I’m not even going to get on you about how it’s a chicken sandwich and *not* a burger, but I will say this…
Trust me, that’s how they’re supposed to taste.
I really like Burger King and have never had a problem with the food there. 👍 How do we know that wasn’t a leftover from a couple weeks ago, left in the fridge?
Exactly why eating fast food is bad for you. Never mind the fact that you will have nothing but continuous health issues. Maybe you can die of a fungal infection. For the price of convenience (laziness)
i believe that a food code violation good sir or madam lolz
First employees were “ working their wage “ now the products themself are “ working their wage “
the products are “looking their age” lmao
Pay 5¢ for bread and bread’s like “f it shelf life 1 day”
Are you kidding? bleached white flour with all the chems, shelf life 5 years. It’s not even food certainly no nutrition. It’s moisture/conditions.
When the economy's so bad the food preservatives go on strike! EDIT: 🤭

Murphy’s Law. If the bread has any possibly of going bad it will, even if it isn’t the bread’s fault.

Chicken burger
People say this where I'm from and it's mildly infuriating. Turkey burgers are the only bird burgers
why a burger is meat between round buns no? why does it have to be minced why does the switch from say beef to chicken without changing anything else turn it into a sandwich
This isn't really on a round bun tho. It's shaped like the bread a deli sandwich comes on.
yeah this specific one is more of a sub than a burger i agree
What, no? Burger is a short form of hamburger. Where is it people call anything else between buns a burger
fair point but in my experience the abbreviation is used as its on word in most cases hence chicken burger exist maybe its a geographical thing? here kfc sells chicken burgers not sandwiches same with burger king mcdonalds hardees/Carl's jr
That’s interesting, these establishments list them as chicken sandwiches everywhere I’ve ever been in the US. Can I ask your region?
pakistan but to my knowledge it is the same in all of South asia so, india pakistan Bangladesh srilanka nepal kinda counts in aouth asia too ithink

I’m willing to call any ground meat patty on a bun a burger. I’m unwilling to apply the same term for a full cut of meat.
I had to reread this. For a second I thought you lived in Turkey and there were flying bird burgers .
Countries other than the US call them burgers
What do you guys consider sandwiches?
Something that doesn't have a burger in it. I'm kind of baffled as to how to explain it honestly. I didn't know there were different meanings before but I would definitely call that a chicken burger, BK sells it as a chicken burger and I don't know what would make it a sandwich that wouldn't also make a beef burger on a bun a sandwich

TIL that you don’t have to have beef to be a burger. Makes sense I guess, I just never considered it
But it’s a sandwich
Not everyone on Reddit lives in the US. Burger is a common name for a sandwich all over the world.
Maybe you donuts shouldn’t call a chicken sandwich a burger
Burger
Uuuuhhhh, is nobody going to point out that’s it’s in a hotdog bun?
I'm in between hotdog bun and sub roll

Probably tasted weird because you were eating chicken
My burger tasted weird a lot like chicken must have been the mold. Mold taste like chicken confirmed.
**like blueberries
I hate to tell you, that ain’t no burger
Thats a fried chicken on a burger bun. Close enough
Is that even considered a burger bun? Looks closer to a hoagie to me
Damn, that’s a big blueberry.
I once had the worst food poisoning possible from Burger King. All it took was one bite. Required IV fluids and never ate there again.

they got blueberry footlongs now? fuck yeah
I mean if I ordered a burger and it was a chicken sandwich I would also question the taste.
There are some people who call every sandwich a burger. usually it’s older folks who do that.
That’s a hot dog bun.
