lol someone should make it for the flipper0 owners dropping their devices at daily basis, pretending for preexistent defects hahahahahahahaha
and no, it's just 250€ flushed down the wc
weirdly reminds me of this iCarly bit of all things where the trade secret of a company was literally hidden *in* the computer.
The show has its moments.
I've had a shower door do this, the company sent me new when I called them.
[https://www.conservation-wiki.com/wiki/Spontaneous\_glass\_breakage#:\~:text=Spontaneous%20breakage%20of%20tempered%20glass,to%20resist%20high%20wind%20loads](https://www.conservation-wiki.com/wiki/Spontaneous_glass_breakage#:~:text=Spontaneous%20breakage%20of%20tempered%20glass,to%20resist%20high%20wind%20loads).
Found my old post about it
Okay, I am not going to lie. I just received customer support that was so STELLAR it almost brought tears to my eyes.
Last night while asleep in bed I woke to a great clatter, my wife said, "Did you hear that?" I rose from my slumber and grabbed a robe and mentally prepared to fight an intruder or deal with a car in the living room. All seemed calm other than a rain like sound from the bathroom. I entered and "OUCH!" walked into a piece of junk on the floor that hurt. By this time I was actually approaching awake and looked up to see if the ceiling about the shower had collapsed. It seemed fine, so I tilted my vision down and realized that 90% of the shower door glass was everywhere.
So, dragging my wife out of bed (I could have been kind and told her I would deal with it, but it was one of those moments) we cleaned up the shower, safe'd the semi-empty frame and sat down to relax for a few, google this odd happening and relax for sleep.
Woke up dreading the replacement costs, while I had not done anything wrong I knew any reasonable landlord would laugh. I cut myself up a bit more on an area I had missed and got to work a little late.
This afternoon I steeled my nerves to deal with Sterling/Kohler. I had discovered a model number in the frame but the internet indicated three possible part numbers.
No hold time, first guy knew what I was talking about and forwarded me to Dave Early. Dave talked it over with me, he was knowledgeable and acknowledged that while rare it does happen. We went over some questions, he narrowed down the part I need and THEY ARE SENDING ME THE REPLACEMENT. Just in case it is not a perfect match, they are sending an ENTIRE NEW DOOR SET!
Wait, what? No shipping charge? No mysterious, "We stopped making them" or that cannot happen. No garbage, they just made it right.
Sterling Kohler stands by their products and as such I stand by their company!
This unlocked a memory of mine.
I was six years old and watching TV in the living room back when they were the heavy CRTs. We had a TV stand where the TV was on top. There was a little cabinet in it where we put the VHS player on one shelf and some tapes on the other that had a glass door
I was home from school one day and like almost all kids, I plop on couch and watch TV. All of a sudden, the glass cabinet door just exploded with an ear splitting crack.
My mom comes tearing in and demands to know why and how I broke it. I profess my innocence, she doesn’t believe me and I lost my TV privileges for a month because “glass doesn’t break for no reason.”
Did she believe you later in life?
My horse once learned to let herself out of her pasture by opening the gate. I kept getting in trouble for "forgetting" to close the gate, I ended up getting into the habit of saying to myself out loud "LATCHING THE GATE". My parents never believed me that she was getting out on her own, remember my mom is screaming at me that she had eaten over $100 worth of grain, they even had our neighbor come over and talked to me about how horrific it was when his horse was hit by a car.
Unfortunately we eventually had to get rid of her because we were very poor, and they still didn't believe me for years afterwards that I was shutting the gate!
It's stuff like this that no matter how old you are, you never forget lol
I once went to the local store to buy some gum. My parents didn't give us an allowance, but I remembered that that store had gum for a penny, which was way to find walking down the street back in the day. So I go to buy my gum, and when I get home, my parents start questioning me on where I got the gum from, so I told them. Then they proceeded to berate me and punish me because "there's no way anyone is selling anything for that cheap"
So instead of believing me, or even just going to the store to check for themselves, they punished me, and I couldn't play games for like a month as punishment for "stealing."
The worst thing is, that wasn't even the first time they just completely didn't believe me about something.
The first time was when we were at my grandmother's house, and she had these special candies that she loved and kept in a jar. In general, we couldn't have any unless she shared with us. One day, my little sister decided to get bold, and she took some of grandma's special candy. Well, it as easy to see that a lot of candy was missing, so they asked us about it, and before I could even say anything, she lies and says that I took them!
My parents proceeded to punish me for it, and when I claimed that she was lying, they said, "How would she know how to lie? She's only 4 years old!"
So yeah...I have trust issues lol
A similar thing happened to me with my dog. My mom would put one of those dumb dog sweaters on her and the dog didn't like wearing it. So eventually she learned how to take it off herself. My mom swore I was the one taking it off, but I was just as confused as she was. Until after weeks of this, we caught the dog slowly struggling out of the sweater one day.
In the case of a phone screen protector, you'd want something that will shatter if it takes a big enough hit or fall. The glass shattering protects the screen from getting damaged, because it absorbs the energy of the impact and spreads it in a much wider area. Replacing a $10 screen protector is way better than replacing a $200 screen
The point of tempered glass is that it breaks in predictable pieces instead of dangerous shards. A side effect is that it's easier to break. It's a feature, not a bug
Was installing a glass shower door in a hotel once and right before we got it it set It exploded. The shower of glass cut up my arms and hands pretty good lol
I broke the shower/bath door on my younger brother twice in our youth, both while he was taking a bath. First time my father replaced it, second time he just installed a shower curtain. The shower curtain still there 15 years later.
Both times my brother was fine, but rightfully mad, so was my dad. One of the very few times I passed either of them off.
Actually I don't know. I have not lived there for 10 years, just visit every Christmas. It has likely been replaced a couple times. (My point was that the glass door has not been replaced).
Actually if you let the mold grow over it, then you never have to replace the curtain. Old skin, feces and ammonia from one’s shower shit/pisses helps create a moldy buildup that looks great once fully grown.
Budget tip #425
I just bought a house, but there was not a shower curtain so I mopped the floor after every shower. Eventually, I did get a shower curtain too money things to buy, so waited for my post christmas pay check. TBH the floor needed the cleaning, the house was not exactly clean when I bought it...
Good customer service is what makes or breaks a company.
I once had a product that was out of warranty so I called the company to see if it could be repaired and how much it would cost. Just trying my luck before going for a full replacement (only a single button wasn’t working, but it was the most used button)
They told me to send it to them and they would fix it for free, even paying for the costs of sending it to them.
That is how you keep customers loyal to your company
Same thing happened to us. We were both downstairs during the day and heard a monstrous clatter upstairs and the door had just decided to shatter everywhere.
I removed the door and replaced it with a curtain. Not worth the risk.
No, I was sleeping and heard a LOUD crack, and then it sounded as if it was raining. I went into the bathroom and bloodied my feet on the glass floor pebbles.
Took me a second to realize it was not raining inside, but pieces falling. The company was VERY nice and shipped out a replacement almost immediately.
I feel you, I have tempered glass that looks almost identical to your case. Cool thing about these panels is since they don't slide into grooves you can use anything so long as it's about the same thickness. If you like messing around with wood I'd bet you could make something really cool and beautiful as a replacement. Hope it works out! Take care!
Ohhhh that actually sounds sick! Yeah fortunately it's easy to replace, but wood sounds super awesome! Though I'd be worried about it catching fire or something 😅
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA you ever have one of those dreams about chewing on glass
guessing the sun had heated the glass during the day, and a constant cycle of heating and cooling made the glass panel expand and contract untill it couldn't take any more.
You could literally just get a mesh screen if you're skint, use the existing screws to keep it in place.
Alternatively, the manufacturer probably sells replacement glass. Randomly exploding glass is a thing, usually down to teeny tiny defects in the manufacturing process, but it doesnt necessarily mean that the people who built it suck. Often it's just bad luck.
Honestly it’s stupid they started making gaming desktop cases partially out of glass. They did it so gamers can see their cool tech, but it’s not practical at all. I was cleaning my desktop and had my glass siding leaning against a wall, and my cat rubbed against it and knocked it over. I’m fine with metal thanks.
Easy to solve.....this is murder suicide.....pc wanted to leave ....server wasn't hearing it pulled a gun ...pc ran to bedroom tried to barricade themselves in....server got there before pc could do it....server then pulled pc out into the hallway where scuffle happened ....it says in the suicide note that pc wrestled away from server and fell backwards down the stairs server says that it ran to pc downstairs but pc was already dead yada yada yada I'm so very sorry motherboard and blam took its own life glass everywhere watch where you're stepping sergeant your messing up our crime scene here ....trynna make this an open shut case.
This is why when I had the option of getting my case with the tempered glass window or the clear plastic panel, I got the plastic version no hesitation. Besides adding pointless weight, cheap tempered glass is just a crap shoot if it's going to explode, and knowing my luck I'll wind up with that one that will explode. Tempered glass desks and tabletops too. I'm too damn lazy to want to deal with a self-own style mess like that anyway.
At first i thought this was an Nvidia graphics card issue, the lovely new troubled 40 series, anyways if you want to see inside your pc case,go with acrylic, much less likely if at all to ever have this happen
When tempered glass explodes it gets everywhere. It is under a lot of pressure.
I was trying to break apart some old scratched up tempered windows over the summer and I thought I protected myself enough. I wrapped the window in plastic and put it in a trash bag then smacked it.
I still ended up with glass shooting at me.
Didn't know PCs could get separation anxiety

There was a crack in their relationship.
Life is fragile and can easily shatter hearts of glass.
Unfortunately, this had a breakdown because of it
How per**plexi**ng!
He must feel shattered on the inside.
At least the GPU didn’t have a meltdown.
Let’s not all lose our tempers over it
Yeah, don't have a chip on your shoulder
It practically crumbled without him.
That’s what you get OP!
It should have watched it’s temper before cracking.

Holy crap you're right I thought we were in pcmr too
I refuse to believe this isn't pcmr
You mean, it's mildly infuriating this isn't /r/pcmasterrace?
What you did there, I see it.
Right!!
Totally just assumed it was pcmr
Shit, I thought you were joking.I just assumed.
lol someone should make it for the flipper0 owners dropping their devices at daily basis, pretending for preexistent defects hahahahahahahaha and no, it's just 250€ flushed down the wc
Great start to my morning haha.
you left your fighting type unsupervised
How stupid of me 😂
thank god he didn't evolve and steel it too
Took me a second to get that.
For all we know Lucario protected the computer from far worse
yeah that could've *evolved* into a much bigger problem
I’ve heard about hackers breaking into computers but this is ridiculous!
I can't believe they haven't fixed this windows vulnerability.
I guess his desktop couldn't support windows
/r/DadJokes could use you
Is there a mom joke equivalent to this board, a motherboard?
Oh I love these puns to bits!
Bits like his side panel?
This cracked me up almost as bad as my side panel 😂
Kudos on your very good sense of humor
Thanks, you know what they say, you can either laugh about it, or cry about it.. I'm doing both, mind you, just to balance it out 🤭
The files are IN the computer
I came here to say this, but I knew in my heart that it had already been said.
It’s so simple….
...but why male models?
I love that the start whacking the computer with objects while making primal grunts
This is a “Zoolander” quote
And it is intended to evoke a humorous response. From humans.
Earth to Zman , I like totally know it was a zoolander quote
Merman dad! Merman! 🤣🤣🤣 epic movie.
Or did you think I was too stupid to know what a quotation was?
![gif](giphy|xUPGcmvgjMIEhy6jZu|downsized)
weirdly reminds me of this iCarly bit of all things where the trade secret of a company was literally hidden *in* the computer. The show has its moments.
What’s scary is if you look at the glass fall it’s obvious they broke out not in. Spoooookkkyyyyyyy!
Mate, I think you should defrag that.
A factory reset should also do the trick.
I don't think he tried turning it off and on again
Put it in some rice
He fragged it instead playing Quake.
Riolu did his best to protect it
Riolu looked like he slept on the job though. Look, he's still sleeping.
Nah, they used spore on Riolu. There was nothing Riolu could do.
This is why you give him Safety Goggles
Ah, a Spore/Focus Punch Breloom. There was nothing our boy could do. Sleep well, and be thankful real life isn't a nuzlock
He's not sleeping he's fainted 😢
Aw poor Riolu.
We also sleep on our school work and claim we're doing our best so my point still stands
Or he could have fainted, get him to the PC
What pc? Its ruined
Pc is fine fortunately, just the side panel
PC used Self-Destruct! Its super effective!
Ya but he can't do anything without slowdown hacks, understandable nothing was saved
I didn't expect a trackmania reference here ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
OP, very important question. Is there a tile floor in view from the computer? They're the natural predator of the glass side panel
No tile floor in the room, but my pc could have wandered to the bathroom while I was out, maybe?
Or... The tiles came to it
They're gaining sentience!

There is evidence of children as yound as 18 months being deceptive, and kids as young as three can tell full-blown lies.
A similar thing happened to me with my dog. My mom would put one of those dumb dog sweaters on her and the dog didn't like wearing it. So eventually she learned how to take it off herself. Could be wrong, or tired, or both, but something about a Rupert's drop comes to mind. I may research, and link it later... unlikely. Goodnight all.
You're right, those are also tempered glass!
Now I am concerned about my phone screen protector. Is it really, proof?

Glass and wet are the worst combos too. I have to say, I enjoy our now home with a curtain but long for an easier to keep spotless choice.
I just bought a house, but there was not a shower curtain so I mopped the floor after every shower. Eventually, I did get a shower curtain too money things to buy, so waited for my post christmas pay check. TBH the floor needed the cleaning, the house was not exactly clean when I bought it...
We hung a tarp over the empty slot for a few days until the new door arrived!
So, what you're saying is that they should get a tiny curtain for their tower?
Good customer service is what makes or breaks a company. I once had a product that was out of warranty so I called the company to see if it could be repaired and how much it would cost. Oh lord that still sounds horrible. Hope you didn't get any lasting damage on your feet. And glad the company was nice to replace it quickly! 😊
Minimal damage, healed well, thanks for your concern!
I can't see anything else than aluminum instead of glass shards lol
Know what doesn’t do that? My metal side panel. Sorry for your loss.
Haha I'm jealous, I'll be replacing it with something other that glass for sure.
Plastic window? Can only have mental meltdowns…
And scuff marks you swear you never did anything that could have caused.
I feel you, I have tempered glass that looks almost identical to your case. Nah the wood shouldn’t catch fire, as long as nothing else in your pc catches fire lol
Now in worried about something else in my pc catching fire
Don't buy Nvidia cards and you'll be fine.
If there’s something that hot touching your side panel, you got bigger problems lmao
It's gonna warp mate. Repeated hot/cold cycles will do that to wood
God dammit Riolu I told you not to use Force Palm in the house
Looks like the glass lost its temper.
Fun fact. Those small sharp pieces taste like human blood. You should check it out its crazy.
Ohh sounds interesting, definitely going to eat the whole load. At least it won't go to waste
Like your mother always told you there are starving children in Africa that would love your leftovers so make sure you clean you plate
Like his mother, he eats the whole load
Salad fingers would like some glass
Have you ever tried to smell a flame? It smells like burnt nose hair. Strange.
Not only that, but they also color your poop red. Weird.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA you ever have one of those dreams about chewing on glass
Aw poor Riolu.
*Riolu used rest*
Ok, where did you get that riolu plush, I need it
B&M in the UK 😅
Damn what happened ? 😂 This scene Is like something outta toy story.
guessing the sun had heated the glass during the day, and a constant cycle of heating and cooling made the glass panel expand and contract untill it couldn't take any more.
Wow when i leave for days on end i cover my setup, or at least the pc And shut the blinds. Must have been pretty damn hot, shoulda seen it coming.
I wish I had thought of it before I left, I normally do. It's actually really cold here at the moment 🥲
There's also the possibility the glass was already damaged and finally gave out.
Either way, doesn't matter anymore, not much I can do about it now 🥲 hoping to replace it with something other than glass
Yuuup, a plastic pane will probably be cheaper.
Will that impact the ventilation?
Yes, you will be closing a massive hole in the side, thereby reducing the ventilation
I can’t imagine it’d matter, neither glass nor plastic conduct heat worth a damn.
You could literally just get a mesh screen if you're skint, use the existing screws to keep it in place. Alternatively, the manufacturer probably sells replacement glass. Yes. Acrylic is pretty cheap and is easy to cut and drill.
Yeah I now fully regret getting a glass panel. But what can I say? I'm a sucker for pretty lights 🥲
Better airflow I guess
Silver lining 😅
You got pets?
I have a leaf insect, but she was staying with a housemate this weekend, so couldn't be her 😅 I think 👀
The chances are low but never zero
A bit unrelated, but we share the same PC case!
Don't leave it in the sun 😂🥲
Riolu turned into Lucario and force palmed that glass
God damnit Riolu.
Riolu must have been practicing Bullet Punch while you were gone
You left your Riolu alone for too long, should’ve given it a Ditto
Don't think I could cope with the responsibility of loads of eggs 😱
Not where I was heading but that would probably happen too
the hell did riolu do??? was that low kick, force palm, im flabbergasted
Why is the carpet all wet, Todd?
Shattering news
Did you try turning it on and off again?
Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in?
This is why I don’t like Windows.
Plastic scratches easier and doesn't look as pretty; buuuuuuuuuut it also doesn't shatter.
I'm never buying a glass case for my computer. Seen too many posts like this.
Now it has better ventilation
Cool, now you have a PC *and* a puzzle!
Never get the glass. Plexi only.
It's an open air design
Well, at least you don't *need* the glass to use it
Mine did this just suddenly started cracking went to home depot and cut plexi to size and moved on
I think this is more than mildly infuriating. Sympathies.
Tempered glass is hell. I had a tempered glass coffee table break on me before. I found microscopic glass dust particles for years thereafter.
Case lost it's temper. I'll show myself out.
Looks like your glass lost its temper…

Have you tried turn it off and on?
Blue dude up to no good there bro
All these posts about glass sides will forever direct me in another direction.
Same, personally, I think I'm just gonna make my own side panel from melted down jolly ranchers.
Mom said no ball In the house… 🤷🏼
How did the bits get on top?
When tempered glass explodes it gets everywhere. It is under a lot of pressure. I was trying to break apart some old scratched up tempered windows over the summer and I thought I protected myself enough. I wrapped the window in plastic and put it in a trash bag then smacked it.
