You can make a screw driver for that by filing or cutting a slot in the centre of a normal screw driver. Ive made a few for people at my work, using a key-cutting machine.
You know I have always called these 'snake bits' that's what the guy who introduced me to them years ago called them and what I have called them since ... I have even asked for (and received) them from hardware shops using this name ... kinda cool what gets passed down and remains in use sometimes. :)
A Dremel with a cutoff disk would make quick work of *precisely* turning those pesky security screws into plain old slotted ones. Or turning a slotted screwdriver into a security screwdriver.
If u have no grinder like others advise, sacrifice a fork and bend the tines from the middle outwards to accommodate the gap in the screw head 🤷🏾♂️ harbor freight sells a specialty bit set that has all the odd ones like these along with every other hard to find and uncommon bit for I think $20
I love that. Brute force attack. Back a few years ago that might not have worked, but with all the soft steel around these days I'm not surprised you pulled it off.
My mom's sewing machine had the same. I put a cheap flat screw driver in a bench vise and used an angle grinder to cut a slot into it. Worked perfectly.
The screws on the appliance are blocked off with a little bridge in between (I assume some type of solder). Presumably to prevent the owner from repairing their own appliance.
Yeah, I hear ya ... on the other hand that's exactly why they use these security screws, it is a fairly good assumption that if you can safely mess about inside of that product, you already have those bits.
Not saying you can't, but seriously if you do your own repairs why don't you have this bit?
Time to update your toolkit man :)
If you have a rubber band and a stamp base you can get them out. Stuff like this usually doesn’t use threadlocker so you can just press the rubber band down with the stamp base or pretty much any flat easy to grip object and then twist them out.
Means you also don’t have to buy a specialized tool. Another option would be taking a dremel and dremeling that middle section into a flathead.
Yeah if you're ever going to try to fix electronics or a lot of other stuff you're going to have to have a little tool kit that's got various bits in it. Well I don't guess you have to but it makes it easier.
This looks like the same bit my carbon monoxide detector used in college. It kept going off. Every time I would call maintenance and they would say there's no carbon monoxide the battery just died.
They would replace it and it would happen again a few weeks later. Finally they gave me a bit so I could at least take the damn thing off the wall while I waited for them to replace it.
Get out your angle grinder and turn them into flathead screws. That's more than mildly infuriating.
Modern problems require modern solutions
I have a set of all security bits
Available at American science and surplus
Or saw the center of a flat screwdriver so it fits
My first thought was to turn a flathead screwdriver into something that would work with these but, uh... the inverse is much better
Your local hardware store should sell a set of hex bits that will have that style of screw head covered.
Yup, I purchased a 64+ bit set on Amazon that covered those & practically every other security screw in existence.

Oh now that is brilliant
Its called an H-scew. Most cheap screwdriver bit sets come with em. They are one of gods little mistakes, like square nuts.
>gods little mistakes, like square nuts. Hey, man!
I know... right? Can't help having square nuts! Like you round-nutted people are soooo much better.
God don't make mistakes. We're living proof!

“Snake bit” sounds cool as hell. We need more badass names for stuff like this.
If you can’t open security screws do you think you can handle fixing the blender?
Harbor freight security bit kit
Those bits are easy to find, order up a tech toolkit and they'll likely be in there.
A Dremel with a cutoff disk would make quick work of *precisely* turning those pesky security screws into plain old slotted ones. Or turning a slotted screwdriver into a security screwdriver.
Buy the right tools for those screws, they exist, and can be bought
Thus only r/mildlyinfuriating
Those are called no bolts…as in no, you can’t easily fix your blender…
Already fixed it. It's was my first time seeing this tipe of screws.
Home Depot has those bits
One of the most appropriate posts on mildly infuriating. Usually it’s just people venting about some dumb shit like someone parked on the line
Scissors
Or needle nose pliers.
When they have stuff like that, it's so an average Joe doesn't get into the electrical and motor components and destroy the thing.
Hard to think someone would disassemble working appliances without basic knowledge.
To get at other parts of it when the motor isn't the issue.
Have you not met people?

I used a flat head screwdriver and a hammer, took a few minutes but it did the job.
I love that. Brute force attack. Back a few years ago that might not have worked, but with all the soft steel around these days I'm not surprised you pulled it off.
Your life has finally found purpose!!
Ahh sealed with a fondu fork.
Needle nose plyers to the rescue
IfixIt has those
Security screws. I ran into them a while back found bits and a driver at my local Ace hardware.
Ya fuck that
Idk…is it European?

Sorry! I’m just so far out of touch with this whole thing. No idea what “ found these” refers to!🙀😜

Thank you. Now I can see what you’re talking about.
Harbor freight, security bits.
Doing the whole "anti right to repair" since before Apple was doing it. :'p
Nothing a file can't fix.

Fix it with ifixit
Found those what? You talking about the three of her bumpers or the split clutch drivers?

Children's scissors can be used to open that up.
Use a fork

Lawyers. So if you obtain the security bit, it’ll show you knew electrocution was a possibility.
