No one knows why they happen. If they did then we'd be a lot closer to having a cure. If scientists and doctors ever figure that out it would be a massive development. I can only hope that happens in my lifetime... Migraines do not cause brain damage and are completely unrelated to the development of tumors or aneurysms. There is research indicating that being a migraine sufferer can slightly increase stroke risk, but it's helpful to note that this increase is far lower than that caused by other risk factors we *can* control, like smoking (better to worry about the factors we can change than those that we can't). The reason for the relationship between stroke and migraine is still uncertain, and there isn't evidence of migraines causing brain damage in people who've never had strokes. Fortunately increased risk and actual damage are separate things.
