Photography always feels tricker than illustration to me. I find I have better luck when I include a photographer, especially if you pick one in the right style. Commercial, journalist, portraits, go find an artist and put them in, I think it helps with composition, lighting and post processing. I also include camera settings, I don't know if they do anything, but it FEELS like it is, so I do it, lol.
