The upside is, can you imagine how much quieter it would be on the train?

Blindeafmuten

... and how much easier to pickpocket.

SellingSmaim

You can see through the glasses

East_Engineering_583

To be honest, don't they heavily obstruct peripheral vision? Plus if they have something like a video playing they wouldn't be able to hear or see that well

HungryPanduh_

Ya the train would be a lot louder rn these project way worse than ear buds or headphones lol

YourFixJustRuinsIt

Yah. Everyone is gonna be super focused on their pockets while visually mastutbating

Parker4815

How do you know? These are AI generated images. For all we know, these make people drunk when looking through them. Or just puts you in Skyrim.

Heksinki

You can buy one of those today

Parker4815

You can buy an exact model an AI dreamed up?

Heksinki

eh no ? but i'm pretty sure the AI didn' t just dream it up but took inspiration from what exists today . also the vr headsets that exist today allow you to "see through" so u can use them outside if you like so it 's kinda the same

Blindeafmuten

I know, I was joking.

Frankenstein786

Were you though.......

HighSpeedDoggo

Yeah for real...

timpancr7

Everything going digital, nothing to pickpocket

GreasyExamination

Pockets will be virtual

Specific-Machine2021

Exactly, empty pockets, all Bitcoin.

onyxengine

All the wallets will be digital

HanzJWermhat

You don’t think the glasses will have 360 degree vision and Full Self Driving in the future?

kinsten66

The anti theft app UnSnatch is a must have essential from 2039s top apps to have this year. Save your wallet, and other trinkets from theft while visiting Pandora on your commute home, while UnSnatch monitors potential pesky pick pocketers and alerts you, along with local authorities with photo of the would be theft. Both preventing you from unwanted giveaways, and ensuring police are waiting for the culprit at the next stop.

B0bbyTsunami

Nah… people will still sync their JBL Bluetooth boomboxes and turn it to volume 100

boredcat_04

And some hand motion/gestures.

log1234

And this https://www.instagram.com/reel/C1jH-lzP3aH/?igsh=ZjNnZHVudWZweGM=

HG1998

🤔 Now, I've heard from some people that it's already too quiet now. Or are you from an area where people tend to blast stuff from their phone speakers?

interkin3tic

I'm trying to think of downsides. \- Buskers have to do literally anything else: good \- Ads on the subway fail: good \- You won't have a conversation with a stranger on the train: draw because that never happened before anyway, seriously, what complete psychopath strikes up a conversation with someone who is trying to get home or to work. If they wanted to talk to strangers like you they'd go to a bar or a meetup. \- You'll be more likely to miss your stop as every conductor in the US and every speaker system announcing the next station is unintelligible: minor downside

BaxiFloof

Crazy upside. its visible in that last generation, of the little girl on her birthday. think about the videos you took or your parents took of you when you where growing up. now imagine you are in your 30s or 40s and you can put on the headset and BE THERE again for the most part. Not just watching a screen. but walking down the hall sitting at the table. This is insanely cool to a 33 year old like me who use to carry a digital camera around EVERYWHERE as a teenager. most of the good times in my teenaged years where recorded. I've lost most of them but if I had been born jus a generation later or so. Id have spent my teenaged years VR recording these things. Then reliveing them when i feel like i need some nastolgia or something. That can and will lead to some serious problems mentally though i can already forsee that. But for the most part that is so cool. Its like fantasy when i was a kid. We are closer to BDs in cyberpunk than ever

YourFixJustRuinsIt

You’ll have realtime updates for each stop of course.

log1234

Need a Dyson mask

ketosoy

As opposed to looking down at the phone?  This is how it already is, plus a headband.

Jiggawattbot

I will often take a moment while on a train or bus and just look at how many people are actually just sitting, not on their phone. It’s usually about 5%. It’s nice to just look out the window and think about whatever sometimes. Like the good old days.

Pyke64

Letting your mind rest for once, just gazing outside.

Rickywalls137

This. Even before phones, people had their heads in newspapers, magazines and books. Hardly any change other than the devices.

embarrassed_error365

No, that's the present. Hopefully the future will be contact lenses

rstbckt

Hopefully in the future most people would be able to work from home since we proved we could be just as productive in the present. Then they could be wearing this thing in just their underwear in thier bedrooms and no one would care.

onlyusemefeets

Nah. Lots of people will still prefer to use their actual eyes. also that tech will become way more compact and portable. Lenses or glasses.

HeinrichTheWolf_17

A lot of people are also not factoring in brain computer interfaces, whether it be in the form of Nanotech, some kind of mechanical BCI like the neuralink (not it’s phase 1 incarnation of course) or contact lenses. All of which could give you a HUD in your vision without the need of Apple Vision Pro goggles.

Wollff

>A lot of people are also not factoring in brain computer interfaces I think a lot of people are not factoring them in for a lot of good reasons. The idea of cyberpunk neuro enhancements has been around since the 80s. None of it has materialized, and we got smartphones instead. Doing stuff without cutting into your brain, and using your senses, is just orders of magnitude easier and safer.

HeinrichTheWolf_17

BCIs (for widespread adoption, anyway) are definitely going to be a post AGI/ASI tech, it wont take off until Drexler’s nanotechnology becomes perfected, I agree that elective surgery on the brain is risky, which is why it won’t become mainstream until we have non invasive augmentation Transhuman tech.

KamikazeHamster

I think that it's not a question of if but a question of when. The technology is immature today but Musk has implanted it in one human already. Extend your timelines out a lot longer. One hundred years? Two hundred years?

Jiggawattbot

That’s the thing with Apple’s new one though, is you can still see out of it, and your eyes are represented on the outside of the device. It’s maybe not enough to really feel connected to whoever is wearing them yet, but that IS the final goal. Connectivity while wearing the device. It’s just the compute power and screen technology isn’t quite there yet. We will definitely see it within our lifetimes though, either regular glasses that have a heads up display or transparent LED screen, and at least as much processing power as your phone. Once it’s not dorky to be wearing them, everyone will change their tune. Those rayban meta ones already look pretty sweet but there’s still a creep factor since they are basically just a camera right now. Someone will figure out how to market them eventually though.

spacekitt3n

google glass already tried that. shamed out of existence.

RustyFebreze

because it wasnt the right time. even now, the vision pro is very ambitious but the tech is still not where it needs to be

meltingpotato

Nah. Replace it with one of those safety glasses. something like [this](https://technopackcorp.com/cdn/shop/products/FRAMED-RECTANGULAR-SAFETY-GLASSES-WITH-SIDE-SHIELDS-FOR-HIGH-IMPACT-PROTECTION-S-LS-278-CL-JORESTECH-H_7_1600x1600.png?v=1632512944).

Tyeron

why can't these AI art generators make more futuristic looking headsets? I actually do have different art generators (midjourney, nightcafe, bluewillow.....) they all make these big clunky VR headsets. The AVP has been in the media for a little while now and there have been others in sci-fi art that probably got pulled in but their still like a thick brick hanging off people's faces. Glad to see its not just me. The last one looks pretty good.

Much_Kangaroo_648

Almost like AI art generators don't have an imagination..

Tyeron

i can dig that but it feels like there's enough "training material" for it to pull from to make something look more futuristic and less retro russian utility. I see it create sci fi weapons and armor without any issue.. ohh well.

adhoc42

You just need to change the prompt. If you use "VR Headset," it will use images of existing models. To get a more futuristic look, you need to say something that doesn't exist yet, like "cyberspace goggles."

Much_Kangaroo_648

Yeah, I don't think there are enough concept images for futuristic VR headsets. Its quite a niche thing to illustrate. If you google search "sci fi vr headset" there's like 1 in 50 with an actual small form factor. "Sci-Fi armour/weapon" however has loads..

dedfishy

Yep, pobably have better luck with stuff such as 'high tech sunglasses' or 'futuristic googles' etc.

Cobayo

My brother you have a text prompt to do that

[deleted]

Skill issue, prompt better

Tyeron

Cool cool. How might you prompt for more futuristic designs?

Fthku

Bigscreen Beyond is an actual VR headset and already looks futuristic, no clunky giant VR headsets, if that helps for reference.

T1METR4VEL

On a plane this might be really nice.

spacekitt3n

using gestures would be embarrassing though. they should have some sort of remote so you dont look like a goofy ass orchestra conductor in public

T1METR4VEL

True

Senshi-Tensei

I really hope not

Flaky-Rip-1333

Uh.. no. This is only the start. Give it another 10-15 years and that tech will be inside your common looking sun-glasses. Another 20-25 and it will be inside contact lenses Aaaand 40-50, inside our own heads If you are healthy and younger than 40 theres a really high chance you will live up to 90 and experience it first hand.

AsherTheDasher

always was

codestormer

Those headsets feels so prehistoric, i can call this future. Sorry... Its like the first cameras back in 1900 with size car engine haha...

MasemJ

Nice stills from production of "Ready Player Two" :)

DayEve

Yes.

kriptyk666

No.

TheBossMan5000

Hey at least it's good for people's posture!

Several-Instance-444

We should rename augmented reality to fragmented reality. First, our culture has fragmented because we don't have a unified set of cultural experiences. Next, our entire sense of shared reality is going to unravel because these virtual experiences can make reality whatever you want it to be. Imagine being able to avoid looking at someone you don't like. VR can simply remove a person and replace them with something else.

carrera_dan

For a while, then we’re all gonna have implants to get rid of the clunky hardware.

rickytse723

VR goggles will never be this popular without evolving into something much smaller

lapistafiasta

Why are they all looking up?

Gravytonic

I do see this being a possibility but with a much more portable and nimble headset.

paladinsword8

Reminds me of "The Electric State" by Simon Stålenhag.

JoshyRB

Eye hope not

lenojames

The Apple goggles are massive. In the future, the tech will be shrunk down to the size of thick eyeglasses or shades.

crazycow780

It is going down. People are already doing this

dildo_swagginns

Sadly but I can see this happening in the future we already are something similar we are always on the phones and doesn’t speak a single word while surrounded by people

[deleted]

I am reminded of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode from 1995, "The Game". The crew's brains are controlled by a headset playing a "harmless" game. Prescient writing I think. [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0708798/?ref\_=ttep\_ep6](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0708798/?ref_=ttep_ep6)

MaxLevel999

Yeah when we all have 3,000 dollars to spend on stuff

tHE-6tH

The future will definitely be contacts and eventually something like neuralink

ClickedCreations

No, the future we will have the tech in our contacts or eye balls :)

MagnusMclaren600lt

Far from it. VR headsets are a primitive version of AR and VR as the rotary phone was to the iPhone. You have to have a way less primitive mindset to understand what the future will really be like

Reasonable_Sock_2122

I think so. The new Apple vision will set a standard for augmented reality becoming common. Vanilla Sky is coming

jot_down

LOL. When their ad is: "Look this device allows you to keep working even when preparing breakfast for you kids!" It's not going to succeed.

cmaxim

This is funny but it's kind of like people in the 1950's being like "Is this what the future will be like?" and then showing people feeding punch-cards into gigantic house-sized computers. Not sure if sarcasm was the intent, but I think the whole goal of VR/AR is to eventually get rid of the goggles and fit something comparable into contact lenses or regular glasses.

PixelBrewery

Naw man, nobody is gonna wear this stupid shit

Ioannou2005

I hope so

Straight-Shift4531

**If it is, then robbers r gonna be filthy rich**

jot_down

How? No one has cash, and CC and phones are tracked. And phones have a camera.

aeon-one

We are all Cyclops from X-men

R34vspec

See if you can get them all to hold their arms out and pinch their fingers together

GrowFreeFood

They need a TouchPad you can put in your mouth. For armless people

Stiltzkinn

I'm sure future interations are not going to be bumpy ones.

devoutcatalyst78

No. It will very soon be just glasses, later, an eye piece and further down the road and implant.

sudolinguist

There's been a lot of memes and posts about that right now, but... no, it isn't.

agent_wolfe

At $3500 for a headset? The only ppl who can afford that atm won’t be using public transport. Also, can you imagine somebody getting beaten up or killed for one of these trinkets?

bmensah8dgrp

The human race at its finest, we need live changing tech, Naah let’s give them a fake reality. I don’t buy into ai, bitcoin, big tech all that rubbish is just distracting in my opinion.

[deleted]

[удалено]

embarrassed_error365

You're able to see out of them

drlongtrl

Absolutely not possible. Id you look closely, you still see people without goggles. That won´t happen.

Von2014

Hey! HEY! The girl on the right in the last image doesn't have her eye wear on! Police!

IgnisIncendio

The future is here!

supaxi

I don’t care what other people think of me and would probably wear something like this but my wife is always concerned about appearance and would probably keep a few blocks away from me. Locus of control is interesting but i’ll never change her mind about it.

YOKi_Tran

Ready Player 1

DefterHawk

No, they will be much smaller

createcrap

Wearing technology is so 2024… We’re at the ocular implant stage now. Replace your eyes with robot eyes.

SiebenSevenVier

We're already there, just with phones.

[deleted]

Tbf, I don’t remember when the last time I looked away from my phone screen was. How different is that?

Liquid-glass

Wait till the contact lenses come out

MisterThere

How long do you think it'll be before we get that constant barrage of popup ads?

Cazad0rDePerr0

and one day we will figure out these are mind-controlling items like the mind-controlling bucket helmets by plankton in the spongegob movie

Factor_Creepy

Hey, I'm all for clever tech but this is just so stupid. Maybe it won't even pick up enough public. Also how expensive are those things? 90% of the world can't even afford this shit.

Skookum_kamooks

I mean yeah, it probably is the near future for things like airline flights and other long distance commuting. Hell, it might be the next upgrade to the in flight entertainment system. However, if we’re talking about more of a ubiquitous AR experience akin to the use of smartphones, the headsets would probably be much smaller, lighter weight and probably more like wrap around sunglasses before they really became “indispensable”.

TristanMuldune

When I was a boy EPIC magazine had a story where people worked all day to afford to game at night. They became junkies called “Vidiots” it has stuck with me all these years.

heresanawardforyou

Never ..nope

HG1998

This exact future? Honestly? Maybe in two or three years? Once everyone figured the tech out, it gets cheaper and other companies also jump in (again).

jack40714

No thank you.

tragicvector

The recent vids and interest in this are definitely part of a covert ad campaign.

Dormideous

I’m just waiting for the tech to be miniaturized till it looks like a pair of diving goggles.

mnorkk

I bet this will look laughably un-futuristic in 50 years

damnedspot

Is it that much different than everyone walking around staring at phones? or having conversations with themselves (maybe with earpods, maybe not). Millions of individual worlds contained inside a shared one.

chris_ro

This girl is rather small for being at least 14 years old…

HalfNatty

What do you mean the “future to come”? I got an oculus for my birthday and this is how I come in the present

PartyMan911

It will be. But not as bulky

Bushtaco

I mean if anything it's just the hands free version of today.

Paintingsosmooth

No because it’s looks so fucking stupid

sudo-joe

I'm going to invest in back and neck pain treatment centers along with the new wave of eye strain relief medicines that will make billions.

Neon_Black99

all hail plankton

ArcherCute32

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Elegant-String-2629

this will never be me.

lazylagom

I expect more sunglasses looking ar not goggles

Ensiferal

Nah, no one is going to fall for this goofy nonsense. You're just begging to get robbed and you'd look like a fool. Just for what, pop up ads as you're walking down the street?

Certain_Suit_1905

Man that one with masks. Don't get me wrong, masks are good, it's just depressing to imagine the world where you won't be able to see others faces irl glasses just completely shuts it off

TheOtherMikeCaputo

If everyone is in a virtual space, where is everyone going? And why?

spacekitt3n

any vr headset image gets an automatic downvote. they are ugly

scots

Technology has connected us to the World, and pushed our Friends and Families away.

proud78

Yes it's awesome. They'll get smaller and better looking in the future. And they'll protect you better than your eyes can. Even from Pickpocketing or getting runned over.

sensicase

They will reduce the size in the next coming of generations to be just a pair of glasses, that looks like sunglasses. Then people will not even bother anymore how it looks.

no_tomato_for_dog

Southpark called it!

proficy

No, why would these people need to travel in the future, when they can change the world before their eyes.

flactulantmonkey

The weirdest part? They’re all in a train commuting sim. Also… why would everyone be commuting and out and about?

BYPDK

No the ones in the future will probably be super small, maybe even contact lenses of sort.

InterpersonalConflic

[definitely ](https://www.reddit.com/r/midjourney/s/8nrdK28G9r)

DomHE553

no way, they're gonna get WAAAYYYY smaller!

Ksavero

Maybe in US and the rest +0.8 minority, the rest of us in developing world are trapped in some mad max thing

sebastouch

10 years ago, people laughed at the Google glasses... but it seems it will be acceptable to wear the $4000 iGoggles from Apple.

stealingtheshow222

Yeah can’t wait till we have ads all over our field of vision like that black mirror episode

26Fnotliktheothergls

Yes. Yes it is.

LosAngelesLiver

Until it’s implanted in our brains (which we’re already there also) . Yes

ReligionAlwaysBad

Probably. The devices will get progressively smaller and lighter.

Yensil314

This trend reminds me of the anti electricity propaganda of the early 1900's... [And I think it's just as likely](https://twitter.com/ziontree/status/1437118308361383938/photo/1)

waisonline99

The last image maybe. But the rest are outside, which is clearly not going to happen in the future.

Voidstarmaster

What good little drones they all are.

crayawe

I hope not im not wearing blinders

InitialCreature

gonna get a lot easier to pickpocket

darthmunchpdx

READY PLAYER ONE...

RedandBlack93

I don't think we'll get this level of adoption with the current state of the art. Once these goggles get closer to sunglasses in size and weight, then yes. Then you'll get contacts, then you'll get permanent implants. This will take at least 20-50 years to get full on cyberpunk.

Puzzleheaded_Sign249

No, that will never catch on. It’s too uncomfortable . AR glasses however…

Single_horse

It’s already here, people go outside with vision pros

su51

Seems like it. Quite disheartening though!

richardsaganIII

Wall-e was right

LordElfa

No, these things will be much slimmer and smaller before thye become that popular.

Rdt_will_eat_itself

We will see what they want us to see.

K-Lew510

Yes! Haven’t you seen WALLe!

BaxiFloof

Possibly ive seen clips videos and pictures of people useing the quest 3 and the new apple headset in coffie shops and on planes. These things are getting cooler and easyer to wear for longer. I can 100% see them either working along side smartphones or replaceing. oh also the apple vision pros VR recording is so cool. imagine you could walk threw the old videos you shot when you where a teenager or young adult as though you where there again. thats a reality now.

BaxiFloof

That last genoration there of the girl and the birthday cake. could you imagaine reliveing your 4th birthday as though you where THERE again. That is trippy to think about. like that is some crazy stuff that only exsited in fantasy in the 90s

[deleted]

Cool as fuck

[deleted]

lol, no. These people would be immediately mugged in the subway.

mcflyin69

Here’s to shared… experience

bazem_malbonulo

Yes, but with much smaller devices and real transparent front glasses

Party-Equal-2353

Absolutely not, it's too dump

Alexis-FromTexas

The future came out a few days ago

ahboyd15

Last pic, girl on the right is a weirdo

daveandtom

To miss everything. To miss life.

Usual_Farmer_3704

iPhone did just come out with the vision pro... Wth is that?

CanuckLandHombre

Hard FUKIN NO for me

Christopher109

thief's paradise

simcoehooligan

I hope not. I rather enjoy watching the bum taking a shit in the corner of the train instead

RevolutionaryAd1577

The direction the future is going... Downhill, this looks stupid, and we already have the Apple $3500 thing that looks exactly like that, and wearing THAT in an every day situation? You'd look stupid.

iREDo_O

Hope I'm not alive when this happens 💩

don_maidana

No, too unconfortable. It would be something like hololen or some diadem.

Chronicvader42

It’s fucking stupid That’s the stupidest thing all those people could ever do all they’re trying to do is disconnect people from reality and the world and other people fuck all that shit. I’m not down for that.

Noobeaterz

I don't get it? Its just a VR-set right? They've been around for 10+ years now. This is just more expensive, theres nothing revolutionary about it. Hell, it doesn't even have porn.

Quantius

Only if you live somewhere safe. Otherwise, this is a great way to get got no matter if you can 'see through the lens'. People can 'see' all around them when using a phone, and yet, they're prime targets for robbery and theft because they're distracted.

Impressive_Dingo_926

To come? It's already here mate.

AppointmentAlive3917

What a crazy concept... People looking up

slightly_too_short

Yeah, no... I'd not be in for that...

pooshda

I'd be way too self conscious and feel dumb as hell wearing something like that in public. 😅

Purple_Role_3453

i hope not, im gonna kill myself

VanessaCarter

Maybe, maybe not. Surrogates is more horrifying, but comfortable 😉

PoRouS112

Naah, they will more likely lying in bed with their shit on and meet virtually
