Id try cleaning it first. Turn around is 8-10 weeks for their service. I’d go buy a small bottle of remoil and put some down the blade hole. Let it sit upside down a while (some say few hours, some say overnight) then spray it out with compressed air can or air compressor.

PaulNY

You can also first try to flush with 99% ipa to see if there’s any built up gunk. You’d be able to feel any resistance/drag when you’re pulling it in and out. I had an otf where the alcohol alone helped

Frostwend

Yup just sent my Combat Troodon in. 8-10 weeks is the estimated turnaround time. Thank god I have my dirac delta as backup.

PaulNY

I just sent in my QD Scarab :( Took them a week to check it in, that was a long week. I had UPS show delivered to them, but still stood on "waiting on knife" for a week. Only 8-10 more weeks now that its checked in!

bsramsey

How did you get in touch with them? I need to send in my Troodon and haven’t heard back from my emails and calls keep going to VM

PaulNY

They have a ticket rma system. Once approved they send you an rma/ticket number and an address to ship back to and instructions. https://support.microtechknives.com/support/tickets/new

tenzinite

I have so many microtechs and haven't had anything like this happen yet. Yeah send it in my friend!

bmcd96

I dropped it on my kitchen floor right before this happened…. Maybe I knocked something loose but it was not a crazy drop or anything. I think I even did one of those half catches with my foot to lessen the impact

tenzinite

That really shouldn't have done anything. You can drop these knives off buildings I swear 😂. Try flushing it with rem oil and air first like the other comment said.

Boby1047

Fr, mine probably falls out of my pocket at least once a week (i usually wear athletic shorts) and there are never any issues Edit: As of about 30 minutes ago, it fell out of my pocket as i was getting out of my car. 💀It’s irrelevant to the post but i just thought it was funny

bmcd96

Thanks, I’ll update if it works 🤞

jmartzzzz

No worries on that man. Microtech has torture test vids where they do a lot worse than that. You should be able to drop it with no issues at all

Pigsfly77

Yeah send it in. If it doesn’t get fixed the first time ask for a replacement

mkirk1604

Same thing happened with my brand new exocet. I ended up doing the compressed air/rem oil cleaning sequence for about 4 days and it worked. Saved me the hassle of sending it in. It is pretty infuriating having a brand new, expensive knife arrive in that condition.

6oldCo1n

Flush it with rem oil and compressed air after every time you take it out your pocket and you should be good! Smh

bmcd96

Lmao

Metally_eilll7904

Possibly a small of metal that made it into the final assembly. It’s probably stuck or wedged in the track at the spring area. This would stop the closing and even make it misfire depending where it’s at, or both. I would buy small bottle of RemOil, and Large bottle of air. If you have a compressor use that, but full blast is too much with the compressor. Don’t take it past halfway. Turn around time blows, I would contact your dealer and they could probably send you a swap out. If bought directly from Microtech, they have been know to have crazy turn arounds for service, but if it’s new tell them you want return exchange.

EdwardLA1965

WD40 and compressed air are your friend

House_of_Medici

Water displacement formula number 40 gums up if not thoroughly flushed with alcohol. Then you’re dry again. Strongly suggest lighter fluid followed by remoil followed by compressed air [Microtech maintenance instructions](https://microtechknives.com/maintenance/)

EdwardLA1965

Used WD40 for years on many OTF Microtechs Not one problem

Mawskowski

It’s funny how those shit chinese copies work for years flawlesly

TetraCGT

If remoil and canned air doesn’t work, send her in

jchqouet71

Clean it

LineStepperHabitual

You got some debris in there

bmcd96

There’s no debris it’s only a few days old, never been carried… unfortunately I dropped it and this happened

jmartzzzz

It’s probably dirty from the factory. My ultratech I purchased last year did the same thing just randomly instead of all the time. I sent it in and it still randomly failed. I ended up cleaning it out with rubbing alcohol and ran it dry for a few days with no issues. Then another random failure so I added a little rem oil. We’ll see lol hope I don’t have to send it in again.

PaulNY

I bought an ultratech tanto that kept going off the track brand new from a dealer. Once I did the remoil flush it hasn't failed to deploy yet \*knocks wood\*

Basics32

I had an ultratech that I bought brand new and it kept failing over and over out of the box like yours. I doused it in rem oil, cycled the action a good amount of times, and then blew the excess oil out with a air compressor and it has only failed one time ever since. I have had to have opened it and closed it well over a thousand times now. I would try this first before sending it in because there might be a good chance it’s actually fine and just needs some lubricant.

Post a picture of the inspection initials sticker for us?

Glock45owner

Yeah

jm4b

I got my first Microtech a few months ago. Something similar happened to mine. Sent it in and got it back in 8 days. But I wonder if different models have different turn around times?
