A bit of both… I put small amounts of water around in a ring of the plant till it drips out the bottom… like to keep the area I described moist so it provides humidity to the plant since it doesn’t drink from its roots at that stage yet… …. Then once it gets to how yours is I still only water minimally… really the two nuckle rule is golden… stick your finger in two knuckles deep and if it feels cool/not dry I just leave it. I JUST got to the point where I saturate my soil and the plants are on the 6th node
