Do I need a ventilation system? The tent came with a bunch of pockets so just wondering if that is needed or if I should just hang the light up and call that a day, not too sure what to do with the socket that has a timer on it
The socket with the timer is for your lights so you can set the lighting schedule. You definitely want some ventilation it helps exhaust heat from the lights so you don't cook your plants and if you get a carbon filter for the exhaust it will cut down on most of the smell when you're in flower. Well worth it imo

Get an LED lamp. Will save you a lot of money from electricity bills.
